Thinking of getting S3, but obviously will be a price premium. Wondering if it will be worth it over the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?
Same size screen, removable battery, fair do only 16Gb on Nexus, few software features on S3. Anyone actually seen a S3 yet, is the screen as bad/good as people saying?
Is the screen completely different to Nexus, which is best?
Cheers

There are quit a bit of software differences as Samsung added a lot of features to the SGS3.
The screen is added with Gorilla Glass 2, being thinner and allowing better visibility. http://mobile-review.com/review/samsung-galaxy-s3-fl-en.shtml
It's really up to you. The phone is nearly twice as powerful with a GPU close to 2.5 times more powerful as well. The battery life rating on GSMArena is rated pretty high also. It's a good solid phone and will be for 1 or 2 years with a good community and support.
The only reason to move to a SGS4 in the future might be for RAM, that is the only thing I didn't see a big jump for the SGS3.
The camera is much better as well.
I'd probably wait for the next nexus devices to come around with jelly bean.

Nexus 4.65 inch -> S3 4.8 inch, also reported the S3's screen is brighter
Nexus dual core OMAP processor at 1.2GHz -> S3 Quad Core Exynos at 1.4GHz, very powerfull GPU
Nexus 5MP camera -> S3 very nice 8MP camera
Nexus 16GB memory -> S3 16/32/64 + 50GB dropbox + SDcard
Also what I like: the S3 has a wolfson soundchip like the S1, musicwise the S3 will be better then the Nexus as far as I understand.
Besides that, the S3 has software tricks the Nexus doesn't. I might have missed something but this is most of it. I don't know how big the difference is between the Nexus and S3, having a quad core might be good "future-proof" wise.
edit: forgot, removable battery (and bigger battery, 2100mAh)
One thing to consider is that Nexus is pentaband (i.e. works with the cheaper t-mobile prepaid) whereas s3 is not (to the best of my knowledge, anyway).
Another thing to consider is custom development; it's in the high now with the Nexus, and unlikely to be as active even when the S3 goes out in full blow.
Aside from these, I think the S3 has all the advantages, both hardware-wise and in terms of additional software (that you can remove later, if you don't like). The price premium is $200ish, but it's worth it for a long term device.
If you wait for the S3 to come out there's an okay chance the Nexus price would drop even further (though, to be honest, I'm not sure if it can beat the current google subsidy in the play store).
Being a Gnex owner I have to say I love it. Have the S3 on preorder as I have to have it, same will happen in November when the new Gnex comes to town. I don't keep my phones for long. To answer ur question I will have to say get the S3, if u want the ability to fully rock your phone with whatever and however YOU want then get a Google phone, they are first to get everything ie. updates, roms, themes, etc.
I have the Verizon version of the GNex. It's a great phone, but there's many things about the phone that make is sub-par, in my opinion.
I think the one good thing about it is it runs vanilla android 4.0.
With the S3, it's a huge upgrade from the GNex with a nicer screen, larger screen, better processor, thinner, better battery life (well compared to my LTE version), and I think I just looks much better. I'm sure it'll run smoother too, but that is yet to be decided as none of us have our pre-order units in our hot little hands yet.
On the flip side, GNex runs Vanilla Android while S3 run Sammy's TW UI over Android. Now, I was not/am not a huge fan of the previous version of TW on the S2, I think I might have different opinions about TW in S3.
I hope I'll like it, but I won't know until I get my phone
From my perspective, S3 all the way. Don't even consider GNex. If you want a GNex, I'd say get the next Google Android Nexus device with Jelly Bean, as other xda guys have mentioned.
My 2 cents.

This is probably beating a dead horse, but we don't know if it has nicer screen, until everyone has it and make comparison. It is still Pentile, which is okay, but it would need better quality control and not suffer from grey banding and/or dark spots and/or tinting which half of phones I had in my signature suffered from.
The Samsung is best phone ever
I've read a few reviews comparing the sgs3 to other phones, but not much on the user experience compared to the sgs2.
I currently have an sgs2 and wonder if it's really worth getting locked into a contract for an sgs3.
How have you found the upgrade and was it worth it? I'm kinda getting the impression it's not really any different. Is the sound recorded in videos really that bad? I always thought my sgs2 was great for this. It would be a shame to go backwards.
So.... Worth the upgrade?
Ive been waiting for blue one, and it should be delivered this week. Ill come back and leave my review on that if noone else comments by then.
I'm switching from tmo sgs2 to tmo sgs3 . I think it will be worth the upgrade

i had galaxy s2 then went to galaxy nexus as my s2 broke now onto the s3 and i can say i love this phone seems so much faster, huge screen with great video and screen quality awsome picture allround just seems faster and smoother to me, game play is fast and smooth would of loved better speaker quality but its still an improvement on the s2. overall in my opinion is its worth the move..
Are you satisfied with the jump from your SGS2, or do you feel you should have waited? Thanks
I had the epic 4g touch on Sprint and I LOVE the S3, but it doesn't feel like a HUGE upgrade for me. It is a upgrade but not a HUGE one. Not upset that I got it and don't wish I would have waited. At least until the next nexus comes out and I can't get it because I am locked in. Overall, I am happy!
I'm coming from S2 (used for 3 months), after upgrading to S3 i loved it and feel happy
i love this phone coming from the s2.
things i love: screen size/resolution, battery life, speaker volume, call quality, gps and radios ARE INSANE!!! gps locks in less than 10 seconds. This phone also gets great 3G speeds compared to my iPhone and s2 so not having wimax is not that big of a deal til LTE rolls along. The new software features are cool but nothing to write home about
things i miss: viewing angles of the s2. that screen was insane. I feel the camera on the s2 is better. that thing took amazing pics without needing to tweak the camera or the photos. Im pretty disappointed with the cameras on this phone.
I also miss gaming performance. sure its not a fair fight with the s2 only pushing half the pixels, but the s3 stutters in a lot of games the s2 was butter smooth in. even with that, I wouldn't trade this phone for any other phone out up to this point.
First, let me give a little bit of a background.
I came from an iPhone 3G and went to the S2 to try out the Android OS and to get superior hardware than the 4S. I fell in love with the S2 and after a few months got into rooting and loading custom roms, etc.
At the beginning of June my S2 decided that it had a good run and went for a swim. I had my old iPhone 3G and used that and kept banging my head on my desk because it was so slow and painful to use.
I jumped at the HTC One X (AT&T US) and had that for a week. While it was a great step up from the iPhone 3G it was still not what I really wanted.
A week later I picked up my SGS3 (AT&T US 16GB) and have been very happy and have had no buyer's remorse like I did with the One X. As far as the jump from the S2 to the S3, the bigger screen is nice, I feel that the battery lasts longer, and I love the fact that it only has 3 buttons versus the 4 on the S2. I don't know if I would have purchased the S3 had the S2 not died on me (my fault, BTW). But regardless of that, I am not regretting my purchase like I did with the HTC One X.
As previously said, I liked the camera better in the S2 and the viewing angle was insane on the S2. Overall, I am happy with the S3 and would recommend the phone to anyone.
Hope that helps someway.
Cheers!
no remorse
I had the s2 for about 7 months, did a lot of toying and tinkering with it. I believe I had the perfect set up (for me) and I absolutely loved it. I found the perfect ROM / kernal combination that gave me optimal performance / battery life combination.
Initially, I had buyer's remorse, because my s2 was just as 'smooth' as my s3. Honestly the only thing that I considered an upgrade was the resolution jump...and the battery life! The screen really does look a lot more vibrant. However what I realized was that this phone is still young, and as devs catch on, its going to get a lot better. Just like the s2 did. I remember when the s2 initially came out there were a LOT of issues with it (modem loss of signal issues was the worst).
Soon enough we'll have a wide variety of ROMS and kernels for this phone as well that will make the performance and battery life even better, that's what's keeping me from having remorse at this .
... well that and the fact that my s2 was on SPRINT, which had god awful internet speeds. The LTE upgrade alone is enough to make me forget about the s2 now that I think about it.
As subject says, also does the sgs3 have cm10 support?

Owning both, and returning the gs3. I would have to say if you can get the gs3 for a good price, go for it. Do not pay almost $300 for it. The gs3 is not a huge improvement over the gs2. If you own the gs2 already just flash jovy's darthstalker, it damn near represents a gs3 in every way. The gs3 also is very easily broken. Do not drop that thing! The gs2 just feels stronger.

As far as anything jelly bean, expect the gs3 to be stable because there is already jb releases for it. The gs2 in my opinion will get jelly officially, give it time. For now any from based on jelly will be unstable on the gs2.
Thanks for the quick reply, the reason I asked is I have an upgrade available on my account, my roommate is using an old G 1 still , I was thinking if the galaxy s 3 was worth it I would get that then give him my old galaxy s2. I am extremely happy with it so I was only thinking if it was a good enough upgrade. Its to bad the g2 doesn't have cm10.

Ugh. This topic again. Half the people in this forum are biased and naive. The gs3 is a much better handset. Go to a T-Mobile store and compared them side by side for yourself instead of listening to these guys. I play with my friends almost daily and it makes me hate my t989.
-Side by side app loading is faster
-games and the ICS UI run faster and smoother (dead trigger runs at a smoother FPS despite the huge increase in pixels over the 480p screen on this phone
-high def 720p screen
-2gb of ram (the phone doesn't stutter and spurt like this one while updating apps for example)
-better front and rear camera sensors
-4.8 inch screen
-a bigger battery
-a hybrid cortex A15 CPU
-better GPS chip. My friends gets a GPS lock almost instantly while mine still takes 10-20 seconds even with the AGPS patch.
Everythig just works. The phone is so good my friend hasnt even bothered to flash a different ROM and we both owned the t989 simultaneously. He just rooted and called it a day. He loves it. BTW he works for tmobile. My only gripes against it is that I think its ugly and is a bit too expensive on T-Mobile. 280$. Though you shouldn't have too much trouble selling this phone for a good 200-300$. Like I said. Go to T-Mobile store and compare them yourself. Its a bad question to ask here.
Btw Davwman didn't you "own" the gs3 already last month? You claimed you owned it and now you own it again?? Lol.
Someone PLEASE CLOSE THIS TOPIC.

Apparently you didn't read. I had it three months ago and went back to a gs2 ever since. Never said I got another one. Yes its a better phone but not worth the large amount of money they want. Like I said flash jovys darthstalker and see what I mean.
---------- Post added at 08:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:53 AM ----------
How am I biased and naive? Most of your points are user related. As far as dead trigger goes, not everyone plays it, so that point is moot. I play it on my gs2 and have zero issues. Apps loading faster? What by a micro second? My GPS locks instantly on darthstalker rom. Personally the difference in screen quality isn't that great. Its a phone not a 50" HD TV. If you have the $300 to burn on a slight upgrade go for it. There will be better stuff out in the near future that I'm sure won't be as fragile as the gs3.
The difference is I was stating facts. You stated your opinion. In the end the GS3 is a better handset no matter which way you look at it. And flashing a rom ( that's nowhere near perfect and has issues.. from a dev that just popped up out of nowhere... :-/ ) that mimics the s3 doesn't magically turn the gs2 into an gs3. Not arguing with you anymore as I've made my point. Btw when you say "Owning both and returning the s3" ...that's present tense. Obviously you can't read your own posts. Try proof reading for once.

As someone who has never owned a GSII but has played around with it for a good time after getting my GSIII, there is no comparison.
(This was before I rooted my GSIII, both of the phones were stock for the most part.)
The GSII felt sturdier to me, I could get a good grip of the device and it felt right to me. The GSIII feels weak without a case to me.
From a specs perspective, there is no competition. The GSIII has better hardware no doubt. UI felt smoother and more intuitive as well, the new TW felt pretty bloated in my opinion, but it still worked well. As far as battery life goes, the GSIII battery was crap for me the first few days. After about 4 days of usage i'm getting a solid day of heavy heavy usage and finishing the day with around 20-30% left.
I got my GSIII during the Magenta Days Sale and it was something like $100--which was a steal to me.
Switched over from Verizon to T-mobile and it was definitely worth it to get a nice phone for a relatively low price.
Like the post above, you can make your GSII damn close to the GSIII but it will never be a GSIII.
If it's too far out of your price range the One S is at a pretty slick price right now.

Yeah i was looking at the HTC One S, Looks good and is a bit more affordable. I have CM10 on my GS2 and it works pretty well.Up until the GS2 i had always had HTC phones. My big deal breaker is whether it will have Cyanogenmod support or not. So far that has been my favorite rom. i do like HTC Sense but never had a phone that cam stock with it. When i had my MT3G i tried a few Hero Roms and liked em and there was never really any good ones for the G2 so i never really did mess with Sense all that much.
I really hated touchwiz... My only Concern with Samsung at this point is the Repercussions of the Apple Lawsuits.
The Infuse's lag has been brutal from day one. I even swapped the phone out after three months because I thought I had bad hardware.
It's just simply too slow.
I'm going to pick up a used I777 or I727 and I'd like to know which you prefer. I know this is the I777 forum, but if you have experience with both, and were upgrading from the Infuse, what might you pick?
I'm in Chicago which has LTE. Curious if the hardware differences between the two are enough to notice in general performance. Would like to run custom JB roms without it lagging. Infuse lags like you wouldn't believe.
So, if you were me, what would you buy and why?
Oh, I'm not doing the III because my contract isn't up for another year and might as well wait for the IV to come out by then.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate your opinions!!!
The consensus is that the i777 is smoother than the i727, but the i727 have the edge on data connectivity, of course. Some say that the difference is noticeable, some say it isn't. In my case, i was able to use a friend's i727, and i thought that both phones where smooth enough, but the i727 drains more battery, because of the larger screen + 4g data. That was totally noticeable.
If LTE is a must for you, and I mean a MUST, then go for the skyrocket. The specs are marginally better for the i777, as you might already know. The i777 doesn't have LTE, leaving you with H+. So I would say this, go i777 if you want performance/superior hardware and development. If you want LTE, that is the only advantage that the skyrocket (i727) has over the i777.
Edit: As a side note, the i777 has an Exynos processor. I'm not sure if you have read up on this stuff but Samsung has documentation and source issues, meaning that lots of things won't work 100% or will take time to patch. I believe Skyrocket has a Snapdragon S3? I'm not sure about what is working with them or not but for i777 we have issues with the hw composer and audio. You can read more about this in various threads in out forum.

OP I had an Infuse and got the i777 and couldn't be happier. Also +1 to all posts above me. Unless u want LTE then i777 is for u

the only thing the i727 has going for it is LTE and a slightly larger screen
I've used both the i777 and i727 and the speed differences are generally the same. Never noticed lagginess on the i727, the chip on i777 is better but daily use the Skyrocket is a solid phone not to mention a bigger screen. I'd say go for the i727, not to mention JB should be further along for it than for the Exynos based phones
After more research, i found that most people tend to say that the i777 has a more powerfull chipset, and that you will notice it when playing intensive 3D games or using 3D animations, maybe flash content, but for daily task, like texting, calls, browsing (Maybe you will notice a little difference here too), reading and stuff like that, both phones are pretty much the same.
I think chipset matters very little with higher-end phones these days. Software optimization is what is key. Before I had my i777, I had an LG Thrill 4g. The chipset on that phone is much weaker than the i777 according to all benchmarks. But I noticed that phone ran games at a higher frame rate than the i777 does. I'd say choose between greater dev support, which can mean having all sorts of cool features (i777) or bigger screen and LTE (i727).
