In almost all browsers (except chrome) I can't use file browsers. For example, if I wanted to attach a picture to this post I can't. I can click manage attachments, but when I choose "choose fie", nothing opens.
It used to work, so I think it's something to do with 4.4?
I have a galaxy note 3
4.4 kitkat
Omega rom (which has always worked, but hasn't since 4.4, even on stock rom)
Is there any work around for this? Is it because it's changed to emulated0?
Is it a kk issue or is it my issue?

Stock Galaxy 10.1 3G tab currently used only in WiFi.
Everytime I try to download a file (*.JPG in this case) it starts then immediatly comes back with *download unsuccessful*
After fiddling around I tried another browser (Dolphin HD) same problem.
Installed the app "download all files" same problem.
Don't know where else to look Anyone here have an idea?

i have nearly the same problem. from some sites i can't download. the download starts, but just after a few seconds it stops. it says "download successfull", but unfortunately it just downloaded a few bytes, not the whole file.
also happend with different browsers, too.

Have also stock Galaxy 10.1 3G tab, and have experienced no problems whatsoever with downloads. Am using stock browser only.
odd, I guess I'll try installing a bunch of browsers see if that fixes it.
Firefox works, ofc its slower than the others but hey if I want to download all I have to do is copy the url and...
this sounds like a lot of work for a workaround
it seems that Flash, for me, is malfunctioning. If I enter just any website which has flash content, it always tells me I need Flash Player to view that content. I know Adobe said they'd drop the android support, but it was my understanding that Samsung still would include Flash in their Jellybean update? I even tried installing a Flash apk I know works, but neither the stock web browser nor Chrome picks it up.
Chrome does not pick it up since it's unable of using extensions.
Are you sure you included a complete APK (best results are from ones exported from ICS-phone)
Try an APK from this forum, you should find several uploaders.
Flash works flawlessly on stock Browser in Jelly Bean
IIRC, the .apk I've been using came from the Nexus 7 forums and was said to work witg Jellybean. I'll scout the themes and apps section and see if there's one which works.
EDIT: By the way, does it matter if the .apk is installed as a user app or system app?
I was surprised when I launched the new Samsung stock browser and it lacked flash support!! Well, shouldn't say surprised since this phone released with JB 4.2.2 which does not support flash... so not much support given in the thread of flash playing, just for getting it installed.
So, with root... I solved this issue and now so can you!
I used the files from from Nexus 7. As soon as we get something that is more for our device, I will change the source.
Requirements:
1) ROOT - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252248
2) Grab the Browser - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1753139&d=1361590018 ( thanks to sikagoon7 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38356096&postcount=354)
3) Grab ChromeBookmarkSyncAdapter if you want it - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1980058&d=1369154901
4) Grab the flash apk (current: 11.1.115.58) - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html
Steps to do:
1) Push the files to sdcard
2) Rename Browserproxyprovider files by adding .bak to end of the file name (or remove the file) in /system/app
3) Push Browser.apk to /system/app and change the file permission rw-r--r--
4) Push ChromeBookmarkSyncAdapter.apk to /system/app and change the file permission rw-r--r--
5) Install flash
6) Reboot (IMPORTANT: purpose of Browserproxyprovider is to block other browsers so AOSP will crash if you do not reboot after install)
7) Launch browser
If having issues, grab terminal emulator and clear dalvik cache and reboot
Code:
su
cd /data/dalvik-cache
rm *
reboot
Works great! Thanks. Glad I can still use the stock browser too!

The only problem that I've noticed is that media bar is not showing up for me, so I can't go full screen or skip ahead. Let me know if you see this too.
I plan on trying out other sources for AOSP browsers this weekend. Just wanted to put a guide up for now.

Same here. But not a biggie for me. Forward is an option in the menu. I like it.

This is huge for me, thanks!!! I absolutely HATED the browsing experience from the stock browser and Chrome.
Big thanks!
Just got my s4 yesterday and this was a huge annoyance to me. Great post
Can I rename Browserproxyprovider back after I reboot?

You can certainly try and see what happens, as far as I know the purpose of the file is to block browsers (that's the behavior on my nexus 7). So it might crash the AOSP browser if it loads.

Okay tested. If you rename Browser.Provider.Proxy.apk back to normal AFTER you've confirmed Browser runs properly, it won't cause a crash.
Is this safe to delete altogether? Does anyone know what it does?

I have it removed on my devices. I haven't seen any repercussion yet in removing, only with it installed (AOSP browser not running). Afaik, the real purpose for the is just to be annoying not allowing for extra browsers in /system partition. :silly:

Okay, I've packaged up the bookmark adapter and browser into a flashable zip. It will also delete BrowserProviderProxy.apk (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16473596/BrowserProviderProxy.apk is the backup of my copy).
Just to let you know this works excellent also!!

In order to get proper reflow of text on doubleclick, I have resorted to using browser from my note 8 and while that crashes now on my phone on doubleclick and bookmarks, the third party app quick ics browser that uses it as a base, works flawlessly now.
JKAY DELUXE [I9300 JB 4.1.2]
Boat Browser, as well as Dolphin browser will do text reflow as well. So will my new favorite browser Sleipnir. The previous three browsers mentioned all use the old browser engine (non Chrome) that is still included with the stock rom.
I take it back, looks like smart reflow (doubleclick to reflow after pinch to zoom, without taking you back to overview) works with aosp as well. Apologies.

Updated OP with Chromesync for 4.2.2 and also a new Flash apk is available in the link provided in OP.

So installing this new AOSP browser will still let me keep S4 stock browser??
It shouldn't remove it since it just adds the APK but no guarantees even if it kills your dog.
I gave the OP a "thanks". This stock browser works great per the instructions. I can once again sync my Bookmarks with Google and I now have Flash.
The stock browser in my I9505 was lagging on some sites with java scripts. Beside, while in full screen mode the navigation bar was not auto hiding.
This solved my problems. Thx.
Hi,
Im really confused about new android, my device is galaxy note II n7100.
I've been using original stock rom JB 4.1.2, but yesterday I tried to flash cyanogenmod 10.2 nightly (android 4.3) for my device.
But it seems to me there is no option to change default download folder for ANY browser...
In stock rom of samsung 4.1.2, there was option for it in default browser settings -> advanced -> SDcard / internal storage
I have 32GB Sdcard and it would be really annoying for me to move every downloaded file to SDcard manually.
I have root, so how it can be done?
Is this caused by that i have custom ROM and not stock? Or is touchwiz only one which allow you to do this?
In Dolphin browser I can set download path, but it wont allow me to choose SDcard, only internal storage.
Thanks for any reply,
Have you tried asking in the Note II forum? You'll probably get better help there.

Thanks for reply, but Im afraid this is problem of android 4.3 (maybe 4.2.2 too)
Thats why im asking here, ive seen stock xperia T with stock rom and in browser settings there wasnt any option to change downloads folder.
I would like to know if they removed this option or not...ive tried modify some system files (i have root) and tried many apps, but i still can't figure out how to do this.
The configuration is likely different for each device as not all devices even have secondary/removable memory. I honestly think you're better off asking in the specific forum for your device.

Hi,
Aside from the stock Samsung rom- every other rom built on 4.3 results in a broken camera.
I've tried several (rXtreme, Aroma etc) and in every one, the same thing happens. When I open up the camera, I can hear a faint sound/clicking from the camera area/speaker. Then it says "Camera Failed"
Dumb thing to say, but it's like the rom makes it think the speaker is the camera, and is sending power to it to launch the camera.
On stock Samsung roms (ie 4.3), and any roms on 4.4+, the camera DOES work. However, I need HDMI support so I cannot use 4.4.
I've tried all the solutions suggested eg SlimISP's files, different mods/roms/fixes etc. It's been happening for 6 months- so I had to switch back to Apple
Please give me any ideas here- I really want to get back on Android
Probably some files left over from previous firmware, do a full wipe before flashing.
Do this:
1. Flash stock, open camera, test that it works.
2. Use your favorite file browser with root access (Samsung MyFiles or whatitsname doesn't work) and go to to /data/cfw
3. Find .bin file there, that's your Camera FirmWare, copy it to a safe location.
4. Flash favorite 4.3 mod with favorite 4.3 custom kernel with SE permessive. (Agni or Boeffla, or use stock, but be aware that certain themes make WiFi not work)
5. Open camera, confirm it doesn't work.
6. Copy .bin file into /data/cfw, re-open camera.
I know you tested SlimISP files, but this method works ALWAYS for me, at least on AMCHA 5.x and TGP
Also, the alternative is to flash custom rom with stock kernel. Open camera to generate SlimISP bin. Flash custom kernel

Thanks so much for the reply.
So, I've written the stock rom onto my device (un-rooted). Problem is, because of Knox, I cannot root the stock software. I've tried removing Knox and a few methods, but I just can't root it. I'm using Odin 3.09. Am I missing something?
