android 4.3 & SD card - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Im really confused about new android, my device is galaxy note II n7100.
I've been using original stock rom JB 4.1.2, but yesterday I tried to flash cyanogenmod 10.2 nightly (android 4.3) for my device.
But it seems to me there is no option to change default download folder for ANY browser...
In stock rom of samsung 4.1.2, there was option for it in default browser settings -> advanced -> SDcard / internal storage
I have 32GB Sdcard and it would be really annoying for me to move every downloaded file to SDcard manually.
I have root, so how it can be done?
Is this caused by that i have custom ROM and not stock? Or is touchwiz only one which allow you to do this?
In Dolphin browser I can set download path, but it wont allow me to choose SDcard, only internal storage.
Thanks for any reply,

Have you tried asking in the Note II forum? You'll probably get better help there.

Thanks for reply, but Im afraid this is problem of android 4.3 (maybe 4.2.2 too)
Thats why im asking here, ive seen stock xperia T with stock rom and in browser settings there wasnt any option to change downloads folder.
I would like to know if they removed this option or not...ive tried modify some system files (i have root) and tried many apps, but i still can't figure out how to do this.

The configuration is likely different for each device as not all devices even have secondary/removable memory. I honestly think you're better off asking in the specific forum for your device.

[Q] Problems after Jelly Bean!!

Hi everyone this is my first post here so be kind.
I updates to Jelly Bean a while ago and am experiencing some niggles, not sure if they are all JB related or not so I thought I'd ask the experts.
1. No Flash - I understand Flash isn't supported after 4.0.4. If this is the case I may just reflash back to it or is there another way? I have already installed flash from third party but it still doesn't work.
2. Before JB I could put any video file type and it would work without converting etc But not anymore on some work, is this because of JB?
3. I tried to install the Dark Knight game the other day from the official game site (they had an offer, game was 99p). I couldnt even install the .apk It said there wasn't enough room to download the file (just the .apk), even though I had 8gig free on SD and 30gig on external SD. Whats the problem there?
4, Yesterday Handcent messneger wouldn't update, it said there wasn't enough room but there is over 8gig free o the SD, I dont understand, why??
5. is there a way to install the game data files to external SD, the 1gig - 2gig files?
My phone is rooted and I have the official JB installed too, Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
PS. I used to love my SGS3 but its pissing me off now. Ive just manually added up all the MB's my apps are taking up. I totted it up to 389MB, even though task manager says 869MB/11.35GB. And now I cant install anything from google play, I just get the message 'insufficient space'. How can this be?? (I have checked there is nothing in any of the other files on the internal SD)
Full wipe id say

[Q] Nwq SIII user and question about memory and link2sd

Hi friends!!
I switch from iPhone to a new Galaxy SIII last week and i'm happy because i'm back to do trip&trick on my smartphone to personalize it !!!!
Now after 1 week in research and test i sucessfully:
- root my SIII
- partition, install and use an external SD as system storage for application using link2SD
but i understand now that link2SD not move private data that still use internal SD.
Now i would like balance SD usage and move al main app and games to external SD in order to upgrade and use SIII with any problem.
Now i ask you some suggestion and help me what i can do:
1. manualy, via terminal, move only private data to extSD and link it, but this will work? which tool you suggest me?
2. help me to discovery an application that do this for me
3. suggest me something that i don't know that can help me to use extSD as application storage
4. suggest me an alternative FW to use, now i use samsung origianl FW 4.1.1 but i'm not know what mean use a new FW, benefit, etc
I'm from italy, so please sorry for my english and use a easy english so i can understand

Flashing Firmware and Changing Camera

Hello!
I'm interested in getting the Nexus 4 camera software for my S3. My phone is rooted and running a custom ROM but I have not a clue on how to flash firmware because I haven't done that for two years. What do I have to do and where can I find the software for camera and features on other phones like the Note 2, Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus?

Running stock 4.2 Android Camera (ie: From Nexus 4) on other phones
EDIT: If anyone is seeing this and they are on CM10.2 I really do not know if this works or not. I have not bothered with it as I no longer have time to mess around with my phone or contribute to the CM/Temasek projects. I am using the stock camera app.
Are you saying you want the 4.2 android camera running on your device? It is entirely possible to do this, and from what I am aware of, you do not even need android 4.2.x to make it work! (But I will not endorse that statement!)
I am doing this and I have a fully functioning photosphere running on my S3 with CM10.1 (4.2.1 android).
Some bits of info you need to know. So your phone is rooted, do you have a custom recovery installed on it?
You can find this out by pressing (VOLUME UP + HOME + POWER) while the device is shutdown. The phone will start up in recovery mode and on top left it should show the recovery version installed on it. If it is CMW then you are good to go, there are some other recovery modes too, but CMW seems to be the most popular.
When you know you have a recovery installed then just reboot your device as normal and plug it into your USB to access the files on your phone.
After this you just need to head on over to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33516626&postcount=1
Scroll down to "Android 4.2 Camera:
Here is my latest flashable zip" in his first post and download the link. It's about 9mb
Download the zip file and copy it onto your mobile external storage. Leave it as a zip file on the external storage.
Reboot your phone into recovery mode again and go into install from zip/external storage. Pick the 4.2camera_t04.zip and install it. Once the install is done restart your phone.
Go into your settings > apps and you willl find that there are two gallery apps now (this happened to me, might not happen to you). Disable the smaller app. Restart phone again. Go into your apps and try out the stock Camera app. It should now be the 4.2 android camera. On the bottom left you can access the settings to change to Photo Sphere.
I am hoping this woulda helped you out a bit lol, and that this is what you were asking for.

I don't see why you can't run the 4.2 camera on your 4.1.2, though there might be framework differences which would stop it from working properly... So I really don't know
As long as you are able to run the zip file from the recovery software on your phone you should be set to go. What's the harm in trying? How about you try it out and tell us if it worked yourself? If it doesn't work just disable the larger "Gallery" app and use the stock gallery..
I am not a developer (though I have some basic knowledge in Java/C etc) and I do not use the stock odex 4.1.2. I am running on Temasek CM10.1 with the Siyah 1.8.6 kernel. CM10.1 is android 4.2.1. My phone is obviously rooted and has CWM 5.8.4.3 recovery mode.
I also don't know much about multiwindows and don't really see the use of it on a small S3 screen... So I can't help you with that either sorry.
So, basically. I have nothing to offer you besides my own experience with what I have lol.

:S Really? What custom ROM are you running. I am not trying to poach you but I am running Temasek v25 atm (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797109) with the 4.2Camera_t04.zip gallery. And the lag is not bad at all for me. It is very slightly laggy (and I notice this so much cos I am a gamer) but it's very very usable still.

[Q] GApps on Omni Kitkat 4.4

Forgive me I am new to this, I just installed the OMNI Kitkat 4.4 rom (thanks to kasper) with no problems, I booted the rom, went back into recovery and installed the superuser program he suggests without a problem. Then I went to install the Gapps rom (Paranoid Android Stock GApps 4.4.2-20140201), It says 'Insufficient storage space available in system partition. You may want to use a smaller GApps (ie. Mini Modular Gapps)' so is this what I should do instead of the Full Modular GApps install?
file name: pa_gapps-stock-4.4.2-20140201-signed.zip
Thanks for any help, and big thanks to all dev's out there making it possible :good:
Yes. Use either the mini or micro package.

k thanks will do.
Another noob question, after installing kitkat 4.4 my tablet no longer shows up under devices on my computer. So how do I go about transferring the files for the micro GApps to my tablet for an install? debugging option is on, Odin doesn't show tablet either, am I missing something?
I seen another poster say "being a newb makes my brain hurt" lol I know where they are coming from.
Under the 'tips' section of kasper's thread, settings -> storage -> 3 dot menu -> tick MTP.

Thanks again you've been very helpful, I was in there looking and didn't notice the 3 dot menu. All set.
edit: or at least I thought I was, I transferred over the mini GApps file and when I go into CWM I go to install it does not show the file but it shows the previous files I had to install Omni kitkat 4.4, Superuser, and first GApps file (full). It's weird because when I go into the storage from my computer it does not show these files anymore just the mini GApps file. So I am again lost... lol along with my root access lol. I am getting error when rebooting from CWM 'Root access possibly lost. Fix?'
More reading and searching for me I guess.....I'll get it sooner or later, probably later lol
If anyone wants to give me a little push or maybe giant shove in the right direction I won't be offended
Also was wondering about the Kasper 'tips' section. I was reading through the ROM thread he has but didn't come across tip section yet. Any links to this?
I don't get it. What do you mean by it shows the previous files? When you go into cwm and then select which zip you want to flash, isn't that the case? Anyway, make a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik) and start fresh again.

Sorry for not being clear enough, What I mean is that when I go into CWM and go to install my .zip files It shows the files that I used to get this far (Omni kk 4.4 file, the SU file, and full GApps file), but it does not show the Mini Gapps file that I transferred to the storage of my tablet via desktop. When I go on my desktop and go into my tablet storage it shows the mini Gapps file but none of the original file that I used to get this far.
I think I may do a wipe and go to a Jelly bean rom instead for now, I like this kitkat version but has cpl little bugs and not as fluid as I would like yet and Im not experienced enough to help with that yet. I'm trying to out do my kobo arc 7HD tab with JB 4.1.1 stock so I can justify selling the kobo and keep the SGT 10.1, I like the clear screen on the kobo and jelly bean is great, but not near as much development for the kobo as the SGT. I've been told to try JB 4.2.2 and overclock to 1.5ghz so I should go that way first, kitkat 4.4 was just too tempting lol, actually it is more fluid or smooth now that I turned off the live background I had on.
Then I'd recommend you to go to 4.3. Its way better than 4.2.2. Also, you shouldn't overclock that high because its not very stable. The highest you should go is 1.4 GHz.

I transferred the first set while I was still in stock rooted condition using my desktop with the drag and drop (copy/paste) method/. The second gapps mini I tried when I had rom kitkat 4.4 installed which for some reason didn't work right from my desktop. I believe when I restored back to stock everything transferred fine and all files showed up. The "fluidity" or smoothness of the rom I found was effected when I chose a live wallpaper, I went back to a static wallpaper and everything seemed very smooth again so I believe that was the issue with this.
Right now, I chose to try out the android 4.3 Jelly bean rom and so far I am loving it so responsive quick and just superior to stock ics. I am new to this only learned about this cpl days ago so I may be missing something or another, but I'd suggest trying this out. All the same kudos to kasper for jumping the next step into kitkat im sure this will be my next step. I haven't learned about dark Omni yet or much superuser options but I hear its impressive so I expect I will venture into this as I learn more.

Alright. There is a directory structure change between 4.0.4 (if you had the updated stock) and recent versions of android supporting multi user. /data is now /data/0 and so on. Maybe your first set will be under /data and second one under /data/0 or /data/0/0..
No matter, good that you have stuck to 4.3 for now. Enjoying the custom ROM is the most fun than just flashing it cheerz buddy.

cheerz, I believe you may be right, I noticed a 0 directory show up in my storage so this is probably correct. I think I checked in there but not sure. I noticed there is a new update, for the 4.4 rom now too (FEB 1), I had the previous download. So I may download this and try again soon. I don't know enough yet though to make the experience for 4.3 to 4.4 much different. I started playing simpsons too, addicting, not sure if this was fixed yet for kitkat or not

[Q] External sd apps orphaned after firmware upgrade - any fixes?

Hi all,
[ I did a search but didn't find much, so please don't shoot me down. ]
I had moved some apps to external SD (mainly games and very big apps). After a long while, I upgraded my NeatROM firmware based on Android 4.1.2 to a newer version of NeatROM also based on Android 4.1.2 - without wipe (which is supported, I've always done that between NeatROM roms).
All went smooth and works fine, except that the apps on the external sd now appear orphaned. They show greyed out and can't be launched. I know I can reinstall them but I'd like to avoid that.
Is there any fix to make the OS recognize them? I presume some config files now point to the wrong location for those apps. I'd be grateful for some pointers.
Thanks in advance.
--
also,if you have made backups[via titanium or so] of those apps, just restore them.
