No access to internal memory. Problem during format - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I basically have no internal memory anymore. I was formatting it through my pc, and then it froze when I opened an app. When I forced reboot it, I had no access to the internal memory, and if I try to format it through the phone it goes into it for a while and then reboots on its own. My computer doesn't detect it and TWRP says the wipe failed. Suggestions? I am really worried. Luckely I still have access to external SD.
Thank you.

it detects external sd so flash a new kernel and use the new recovery to access the internal memory

I managed to solve it, with @_Sale_'s help and the the procedure of @electricsheepdreamer at the link below. Thank you both, truly.

Help Please. SDCard not mounting

The thread says it all. I have a rooted EVO LTE running the CM 10. Everything was working fine until I accessed the SD Card from within TWRP to copy a file. Now I get errors when I look at the command line within TWRP "failed to mount /sdcard {Invalid argument)". Can anybody help me? Thanks so much to all of this community.

The only way I was able to fix this was to mount the SDCard over USB in Recovery Mode and reformat it. I lost what was on there, but it's working now.
I formated my card through windows 7 and I still have the same problem. I never had this issue on any of my previous rooted phones I am really gettin pissed with the lte...
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Are you guys also having trouble accessing the Camera? Mine doesn't seem to pick up my SD card and only allows me to use the Camera using external storage...
Well when I pull my camera up my phone days " no external storage available" then at the bottom if my screen another pop up says "insert an SD card before using the camera" I have my SD in....idk what to do. I searched the threads already but nothing besides some guy saying format my SD...I did that but now I have the same problem along with my pictures and music being erased.

Well you could have put the files on your comp first and then reformatted, but I am having the same problem. I guess we just gotta hang in there. It will be fixed soon I hope.
I'm having the same issue with the Aug. 31 CM10 nightly. I cannot access my SD card. If I look in system memory, it shows the card and the size, but I cannot access it, same as you guys. Trying with TWRP to wipe, it shows a bunch of e: failed to mount /sdcard (invalid argument). Still no solutions?

I was able to mount the SDCard over USB in Recovery Mode and reformat it from my computer. Obviously I lost my data that was on the SDCard, but none of the apps I had running were affected. Once I did this and rebooted into CM10, everything was fine and I just made a fresh Titanium Backup of all of my apps. My previous TWRP Nandroids were on the SDCard, so they were lost, but I can always reinstall another ROM and restore my Titanium Backups and go from there. Hope that helps.
I had this same exact problem, but the external storage it is referring to is actually your internal sd card, and not the external.
What you need to do is go into TWRP and mount YOUR INTERNAL sd card (don't switch to external), and in windows 7 format it.

AWESOME! Thanks!
So I'm having a similar issue, except I didn't try to access the external sd card from TWRP. And yes I've verified its the actual physically removable card.
I can see it in the system storage menu. However when I try to access it in Estrongs, it's no longer mounted as ext_sd in the sdcard folder. I did some digging and found it's now mounted as external_sd in the root folder of the phone. Looking in the storage folder, it still shows up as sdcard1, and my internal storage is still sdcard0. This seems to have happened after I flashed one of the nightlies, like 9/1 or 9/2. Any ideas on how to resolve this?
I'd rather not revert to my last backup, which was a Sense rom. I think this is screwing with the media scanner, because none of my sounds for alarms calls or texts work anymore

this is a work around for the HTC method of listing the sd cards, in my opinion HTC really screwed the pooch with the way they labeled the file system. The way sense accesses the external sd is through a shortcut to the physical address of the external sd. It really screwed with apps like power amp which had no problem reading both cards but if for example you went to power amp and marked what folders had your music by selecting the folders through the ext_sd folder shortcut it would read and list your music twice. another user who flashed cm10 noticed this (not the ext_sd file problem but the way CM10 was confused by the structure) and quickly wrote (then generously shared) a script that would rewrite the address correctly. I guess that a similar script (or that very same one) was introduced to the installer for the nightly builds
Wow thanks for the clear explanation. I too thought the ext_sd method was screwy, with all of my custom notification sounds showing up twice. Any idea on how to fix my alarm and call sounds not working? Can't afford to miss a day of class lol
This isn't definite as I haven't had to but going to fix permissions might help if some programs aren't recognizing the file tree
Welp, it was worth a shot, but no go. Ima keep tinkering. Thanks anyway tho
Well here's what I did after I flashed the original rewrite script, I had to factory reset (changes survived)and then wipe system, then reflash the nightly build (fastboot kernel for boot 1.15+)
Edit: I still have the shortcut folder on my internal however its not linked anymore so nothing shows up, everything else works fine
Ok, tried a full reset, wiped data, system, caches. Ringtones are working again, as are text tones. Alarms, still silent as ever... I'm so confused right meow
Sorry to hear that man

[Q] SD Card Won't Mount

Hey so I've been trying to find a solution to this problem for a while now and I can't seem to find anything to fix it.
So I went to format my SD card through my phone (I am running Liquid's ICS rom atm). I went into settings > storage > erase sd card, and followed through on everything. After I accepted that my stuff would be lost I got a notification saying the SD Card is safe to remove, and in storage it gives me the option to Mount the SD Card.
However, when I press mount it acts like it is mounting for like half a second then quickly just says it is safe to remove and the mount button is clickable again. No matter how many times I click it, it will just do the same thing.
I tried booting into recovery and mounting it through there and formatting it and other nonsense and it just says error mounting sd card.
I have also taken out my battery and sd card and left it for like 10 minutes and tried again. Still nothing.
The only thing I haven't tried doing yet is putting it into a computer to manually format it that way, but I don't have a device to be able to do that at the moment so I am looking for a way to solve this without having to drive 23 miles to the nearest electronics store to fix this.
I don't think my SD card is corrupt, I mean it was working perfectly (it is a 32gb card from Verizon when I got the TB) and it just started doing this after I tried to format it through the ROM.
Any ideas?
EDIT:
HEY! So holy **** I had a little bit of a moment there. Anyway, I solved the problem on my own. So what I did was boot into recovery, and partition the SD Card under the Advance option. I just did the first setting for each so my operation was like this: Recovery > Advance > Partition SD Card > (Power button for whatever the first option was until it started partitioning).
After that I tried mounting the SD card and it didn't give me an error. So I went into the recovery settings to format the sd card (still in CWM recovery) and after it formatted I booted up and sure enough to worked!
So this thread can be deleted or locked or whatever. Other people may run into this problem and this worked for me so yea.
Thanks for the thread space lol
Have you tried 4ext Recovery?

[Q]

Hello! I just rooted and installed last stable cm-7 ROM on my Legend using this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26735943&postcount=3
I thought all my problems were over but unfortunetley I was wrong.
After I downloaded & installed some apps, I noticed that my internal phone storage space is keeping gettig
low, even when I move every app to SDcard after installing it. Setting the sdcard as install location by
"adb shell" was not helpful either.
I guess some data is still saved on the internal storage, no matter if I moved it to sdcard.
I tried to create a partition on my SD so it can be used as internal storage, using this tutorial:
http://forum.hackmyandroid.com/showthread.php?t=220&page=1
But after I created the partition, my Legend couldn't identify my SD at all.
Lucky, somehow I managed to do something so my Legend could recognize my SD again, but I remained with
some less space on my SDcard. In other words, I couldn't delete the partition properly. Weird...
Is there any solution for this issue? I don't mind getting a new Micro-SD but how I cause my internal storage
stop getting full?
Any ideas?
OK, so I tried to create a partition with ROM Manger, but I after it's done and device is rebooted, Link2SD still says "2nd partition not found"....
So, I created the 2nd partition.. all setted up... even get a notification from Link2SD after an app is installed says "appname linked to SD"
BUT, still internal phone storage is getting low... I'm helpless.. any ideas please...

Problems with USB file transfering.

Hey everyone.
I have been experiencing a huge problem for me, with my p760. I`m on latest PAC version, and about a week ago i had problems with UMS, while copying files from computer to my LG, suddenly the task froze, i couldn't turn off Mass Storage from phone either, so i just unplugged the device after aprox. 6 min of waiting. The result was in phone shutdown. I turnt back on, and tried once more, sadly the same happened, but this time i received a nice present of soft brick. I couldn't even turn my phone on in recovery (thanks to TWRP), i managed to flash CWM through fastboot, then made a factory reset, and phone booted up, but ever since the time, i am unable to copy files to SD card through UMS, and MTP doesn't work at all. So i'm stuck now. I want to reinstall phone, upgrade to new ROM, i know possibilities are just to download a new ROM through phone, but i like the PAC, so do you have any solution or tips to fixing this? Oh, also everytime i connect phone, it shows me that my SD card needs to be scanned for errors, i always skipped, 'til i tried, and no luck. 20min of waiting to tell me, it is all right with SD.
First use an external SD reader to scan for errors and eventually try substituting the SD to see if it's a phone or a SD problem. Second you can always flash a rom from internal SD!

Phone doesn't read EXT-SD Card

I was running Jasmine 5.0 with the 5.0.1 update, had no issues, was running perfectly with no FC's, no bugs, and I knew there was about to be a 5.0.2 update.. So I decided to prep for the update and create a backup in TWRP and have it saved to the ext-sd. My phone was connected to the computer, charging, and I rebooted into recovery, created a backup and when it was almost finished it went to backup the boot image, it said it failed. So I wiped caches, and rebooted just fine. I then downloaded the 5.0.2 update, and when I went to move it from the computer to the ext-sd card, I noticed that it didn't recognize my external sd card anymore. Both the computer and multiple file explorer apps on my phone can't read my ext-sd card anymore. But the weird thing is, when I am in recovery, TWRP recognizes my external sd card and even let me restore a backup perfectly.. (so it's not corrupt) So I then tried to factory reset, format data and restore a backup from my external sd card, which worked and rebooted just fine. But both my phone and computer still don't recognize my external sd card.. I have tried flashing the sd card fix permissions file and still no luck.. If anyone has any pointers or help, please let me know. I have a 64gb sd card that has all my important and needed ROOT information for the slight chance that I bootloop or softbrick my phone.. All information needed is on it!
Thanks for the help, if you took the time to read this I greatly appreciate it.
