Hello all ,
Recently I purchased an unbranded Chinese Tablet with Tegra2 chip which is running Android 2.2 At the moment.
I have found out there is no Software lock nor restrictions on changing the ROM on this tablet. So I would like to put a custom ROM on it if possible.
I have two questions :
1- Is there any system requirements I should be aware before putting any custom ROM on my device? for example any specific PBC board/chipset or other component?
2- What is the best custom Adnroid 3 series ROM ( with the most stability and functionality ) which is designed for Tegra2 chipset?
Please go easy on me as I am new and would like to expand my knowledge with productive help of people here
Thanks
If you run an Android 2.2- 2.3 then there's certainly no. At least none with more then a tegra2. I think you could simply run like all ROMs.
Because I am looking for ROMs also, I think I saw something interesting.
But is your tablet copied? Just, tge chinese made it cheaper?
Then you should search on that tablet on XDA
Regards
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
Yea the tablet is copied from other ones , obviously does not have the same specification hence the cheap price. And it has only 512MB RAM which is not a problem for me as I am not a gamer.
But I am sure some ROMs work with certain hardware and setup better than others.
I have to get more hardware detail when I have the tablet in hand.
However I prefer to have more information first. So any help and suggestion is appreciated.
I'm specifically looking for android 3.0 and newer version which is compatible with the device
** Any assistance? ***
Sorry for late reply...
I am really sorry, but I have no experience with tablets and Chinese tablets. I am sorry.
But if you flash recovery with ROM manager nothing can go wrong because you can always go back!

Hi,
I'm keen to find this too. Hopefully someone will crack it soon.
Also ... any idea how to do screen capture on the A110 ? the volume+on/off press doesn't work.

has anyone rooted the acer iconia tab a110 4.1.2 update yet? if so how? i already had the 4.1.1 rooted with the universal root tool v17
I get the feeling, we're not going to get a thread of our own. Sad to see such a powerful device avoided. I've owned a Nexus 7, Galaxy Tab 2 7", and many others. None of them compare to this tab. The Nexus 7 has major screen issues and no sd card is a no no. The tab 2 7" is extremely laggy, and Samsung is taking years to release JB. This tablet combines everything I need, Just wish it had more dev support.
New year is coming lets just cross our fingers and hope for the best for the sake of our Iconia tab A110. lol =)

Would really love to see a section dedicated to this device. I just bought it today, I wasn't able to buy a nexus 7 (being out of stock everywhere). First impression, it is such a great device! I am very impressed

This tab is an amazing device. I've had mine for about three weeks and have not found anything that I don't like about it less the fact that it has not been rooted. Everything just works! The build quality is solid and sleek, the OS is super smooth, this Tab handles everything I throw at it with NO hiccups whatsoever, from running multiple apps concurrently, playing graphic demanding games, watching hd movies and videos, reading books, acceptable battery life, HDMI port and expandable memory. The speaker is above average for a tablet, music sounds quite good at high levels with no distortion. Phone calls and Push to Talk are great over WiFi and having this tab tethered to my Epic Touch 4g means it goes everywhere I go. After using it for thee weeks I think the price has already been justified and I believe it is worth every penny I paid for it. Bottom line; the stock A110 has exceeded my expectations for being a so called " budget tablet " and this device deserves some ATTENTION in the device forum and some serious dev support so we can unleash the A110's inner-BEAST!

I agree with you 100% I just bought this device a couple days ago and I am in love. We need a a forum for this device !
I would agee that this device is amazing. Picked one up yesterday on sale for 148.00 at my local walmart. I was set on picking up a nexus 7 but since this was on sale for over 100 dollars less then the cheapest nexus I could find around here which was the 32gb version at 269 I couldn't pass it up and must say I'm very impressed. But would love to be able to root it.
As an update I am now successfully rooted on 4.1.1 using this tool. androidforums .com/iconia-tab-a110-all-things-root/662108-acer-a110-rooting-tool.html won't be updating any time soon.

Great to hear that work is being done one this great device. I would be willing to beta test if it helps the cause!
Great to see someone working on this impressing device. I would like it can be root soon.
Ditto you can count me in on that as well. My tablet has just informed me that he or she? is willing to donate it's bootloader, firmware and recovery in the name of science in hopes of finding a cure to this rare epidemic and hopefully one day all A110's can be booted with an insecure image so they can receive proper custom rom treatment and begin to live a normal healthy life........
PS
My A110 is experiencing frequent notifications in its task bar and has been offered an update several times. At this time we would rather not want to go that route......
My A110's vital signs are as follows:

Definitely keeping an eye on this. Seems the bootloader is easily unlocked, on this device; has anyone tried re-locking the BL, or is it a one way operation?
I'm really surprised this device hasn't had much attention, it runs extremely well with that T3! I made the unfortunate mistake of updating out of the box, from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2... Meh!
Best of luck, I'll be keeping my eye on this thread with my fingers crossed

I am looking for a device mainly as a VOIP device. I can get a Galaxy samsung S for around 70-100 around here average from craigslist but was also considering a player 4.0 or 5.0 - problem is the 4.0s go for a little bit more (right now I have a guy willing sell me his mint one for $85). However, I've seen the 5.0 for around 120-150 refurbished or like new used and really like 5" screen. What would you guys do?

Do you also want to use it in long trips or for GPS? If then the extra battery capacity from the galaxy player 5 suits the needs. Because honestly all of the following works perfectly well for a VOIP. Also if you are looking for development support from XDA you might consider the galaxy s. I would personally get the galaxy s because of the better custom roms and the capability of using a backup battery, which a player 5 cannot do

The Galaxy Player 4.0 is based on the Galaxy S1 so I'd go with the S1 because there are way more devs for it. Spec vs Spec the only thing in favor of the GP 4.0 is that it has duel stereo speakers and that's about it lol. The S1 has a much better screen and better camera. Now the 5.0 is a little different. It has of course the Screen Size, LED Flash, and a much bigger battery. Also it has a bit more devs, however it's screen is actually worse than the 4.0's and it uses a Yamaha DAC so it's sound quality isn't as nice as the GP4.0/S1 (whom use the same DAC). So like I said go for the S1 and be careful shopping on craiglist.
5.0 is worth it with reservations - old rom and no updates

hi
I've already bought a 5.0 from new and overall I'm reasonably impressed. It's a good vivid player with all the flexibility of Android to boot and a microSD card slot!.
I decided to purchase a separate music device rather than run my phone that way to avoid running my battery down...
However I would warn you that for the UK version that I bought, it seems to be stuck running Android 2.2.2 with no sign of an update any time this century. It's starting to be restrictive with regards to apps. Furthermore although some will tell you "just root it and update the rom"...I've yet to see a simple (for a noob) rooting process and set of roots that would at least match the stability of the stock version for the 5.0/4.0.
I've searched the fora and there's a lot of info to digest....

Just some food for thought. I noticed that the Galaxy Player line is no longer available to buy, brand new, from Amazon (only third party sellers) and that Best Buy shows any of the players as "not available for shipping". I was curious what was going on and begin to find that it is possible the Galaxy Player line is being entirely discontinued. I hated to hear this, but think it is important to keep in mind as Dev support could become continuously smaller - it isn't large by any means at the moment.
If you are okay with the possibility of no support outside of forums, I would say to go for it. They are great devices as media players and even a type of 'wifi only' phone. Good luck with your decision!

Good choice you should be careful buying a used galaxy though. They are notorious for the power button breaking. There's a workaround however by installing an app where you can turn it on with a volume button.

I looked up kies mini and it seems they are device specific, I've installed kies regular and it says I'm on the latest firmware already.
I know I could try updating to 2.3 with Odin, and from what I understand that would be to the stock 2.3.5 that the US 5.0 Wi-Fi comes with. This is how: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EYjIyVXRGM
I just don't know if it might break something, is there a big improvement to updating to gingerbread? Like how is the performance?

uninstall Kies regular and try Kies mini. mini upgrades basically all the galaxy s products so it's safe to assume that it would work on the gp. plus it was mentioned by Samsung themselves in order to upgrade the galaxy players.
gingerbread is not exactly a huge improvement in terms of performance, but it gets way better app compatibility. for example you don't need to root your gp if you want to use the power button alternative if the button ever breaks. and it's a more appealing to the buyer's eyes.
um... that's all the differences I know of

If you want stable look for custom roms that are based off of stock, like Chip v1.5. These ones provide mostly, if not, all the features that are available for the default rom and provide extra features. Check this out for more details. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720457
Hi, I have a Galaxy Tablet 10.1 and just purchased another tablet which is a Kobo arc 64GB. I am unsure of which tablet to keep and I am hoping for some advice. The Kobo is 1.5 ghz so it is technically faster and has a newer android OS and I purchased for $139.99, but it is a 7" compared to my 10.1 which I like bigger a little better but not so much as to make my decision. I read that galaxy tab can be rooted and updated but I haven't got into that yet. The galaxy also has better camera and more functions gps, Bluetooth, etc. both are wifi only. I am really unsure which one to keep. I paid 399.99 for my galaxy like 1 1/2 yr ago. Can anyone help make my decision a little easier? I am very torn on which one to keep and so much info on internet about different tablets it makes it hard to find any answers.

Thanks, this is pretty much what I was wondering. I will try it and see how I like. Now just figuring out how to do it lol, well this site seems like a great place to start..kudos
Edit: I managed to root my tablet I think, it's a lot harder process now then it should be trying to find everything to work. I found lots of dead links to places where I could DL the recovery files and Odin and such. I managed after a few tries to get CWM working I am using version 6.0.3.6 right now. First I tried ver 4.0.0.4 and when from a package install from the tutorial on this site but I was getting the scrolling effect in CWM that a lot of people experienced where it keeps scrolling the screen so fast it's barely readable. So then I tried a ver. 5.5.0.4 (I think) apparently one you need to use certain roms, but I had the same effect with this one. So then with the suggestion of another thread on here I downloaded 'bootloader_4.0.4.tar.md5' and the version of CWM I have installed now. It's seems to work alright no more scrolling effect and I have the superuser app, I did a backup without problems, although when I first told it to reboot it came up with the message 'Root access possibly lost, Fix?' I selected yes and apparently it fixed because this message does not come up anymore. So I made it this far. Now the fun begins lol.
I'm on 4.3 Jelly bean cyanogen now lovin it, only prob it just booted like 3 times before actually booted up properly, thought I was stuck in a boot loop for a minute. Worked though. Kobo is as good as sold.
Is there a ported ROM available for the Nexus 5 from the Goophone i5s or i6? I looked at these and I'd actually like to try them out to see how smooth they'd run on a more powerful phone. Either that or an equal iOS mimic ROM would be nice if there's one already released. Sorry if this has already been asked, but I couldn't find anything.
no.
in general, roms that are ported from one phone to another, do not run smooth and are buggy, thus the nature of a port. anyways, why would someone want to go in reverse, go from the latest available backward to something worse? and there arent any ios mimic roms for the nexus 5, its kinda funny that you even asked, as many people buy nexus devices to get as far away from ios as possible. your closest choice would be a miui rom, but thats not the same either,
You're not going to find a 'iOS mimic' ROM. And it will NOT run smoother if we had it available.
iOS runs the way it does so smoothly on their devices because the software is optimized to best match the hardware. Android has vary different hardware and uses native code way different than ios so you'd get either one of two things. A really really buggy laggy iOS ROM or an ok performing (and this would be with the 805 SOCs or anything newer and better) iOS ROM.
miui is your closest bet or use different launchers with some xposed modules along with these to make your device somewhat look like an idevice.

What he said about MIUI. iOS is a closed source operating system, its pretty much impossible to port iOS over to a Android device and then they'd have to work on getting the App Store etc etc all that working. It most likely won't happen and if it does, I'm sure Apple would send a cease and desist.
What I suggest the OP to do if you really must do that, download a ROM with CM Theme Manager and use this theme alongside Xposed modules http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2631573

Hi, there is no ported ROM currently for such devices as of this month, as the the Stock ROM has only been released recently. But I do have link where to download the Goophone I6 Stock ROM. From there, I think you'll have to work on porting it yourself.

I have actually done research and this is actually possible, provided only that you know how to extract it's recovery IMG and Kernel. Take note that you'll have to be aware of the MTK platform of your device, as there are a lot of iPhone 6 clones out there running on different platforms.
Anyways, if you are interested in creating a custom mod recovery for this device, I have a link that just might help you:

Punch the Thanks Button if i helped!
Yes there is
Please click here to go and download the Stock software for both goophone i6 versions (plastic and metal)
Why would anyone want a port like this, especially with lollipop arriving? Take discussions to goophones to the proper forums, we need no goo here.
This is a nexus forum for nexus people. We'll have no goophone here.
You need to be British to get that reference.
We can close this thread now. I think either my understanding of what a Goophone is or what I wanted was wrong, but either way I think MIUI would be my best bet if I wanted an interface similar to iOS to switch things up for a while. That's all I was really asking for. Thanks guys.
