Hi. I tried to flash newest version of GApps (full modulare which I have never use before, allways the stock) and newest version of CyanogenMod 11 Nightly. I'm also using CWM Recovery 6.0.4.6 in my GT-I9300. Someone in CyanogenMod forums told me to wipe all data/factory, cache and dalvic cache to make CM's trebuchet, before flashing a new ROM and GApps.
I tried that and result was that I'm getting the ****ing "PHONE HAS STOPPED WORKING" - problem.. Huger problem is that I need this phone tommorow in work, and it ruins my day totally if I don't get it work by tommorow.
Because of Wipe ALL data / factory reset, I do not have even any backup file in my device. What to do to fix it!?

Can you boot into recovery? Have you got a external sd card?
If yes put another Rom on ext SD (if you have a SD card adapter for computer) boot into recovery and flash again!
If not can you get into download mode? If yes flash a stock Rom with Odin..

Thank you for helping. I flashed stock 4.3 Jelly Bean with Odin by using XDA's tutorial. Now I need to root my phone again to get CyanogenMod 11 and KitKat, but It's okay. Still don't know how to get CM11's Trebuchet work correctly. Problem is that if I flash PAGapps stock package, I get the phone work correctly, but Trebuchet disappears. If I flash full package of PAGapps, Trebuchet should work, but then this error happends and I need to flash stock rom with Odin.
What to try next?

If you are flashing custom roms you do not need to root, custom roms come already rooted...I'm not sure which gapps are compatible with cm11 but have you tried Banks gapps I use them on Fusion kitkat rom (if they are compatible)..
Obviously there is some app in the full gapps that is causing your problem. As for CM11 launcher can't you use another launcher?

I am trying to swich ROMs. I am currently on Jellybro and really want to try Helly Bean. Has anyone tried/had issues going from Jellybro to Helly Bean? I followed the flash instructions and I am getting a status 7 error. Any ideas how to fix? I've searched the Helly Bean thread in the development forum, but I'm too much of a n00b to figure out what they are saying most of the time. Do I need to start from scratch (Odin back to stock)?
If I have to Odin, I'll do some more searching to figure out how to get from stock to Helly Bean.
Thanks in Advance!
Check this out. Seemed to work with previous build.
I just tried the Glitch kernel fix and I am still getting the same status 7 error: symlinks failed. I got the same error last week, but I had assumed it was the updater.sh script as described by hurtz777.
It always fails on the vibrant install, the initial and the base work just fine. Do I need to reflash the glitch kernel after the base installation?
Any other ideas?

Did you follow the steps directly.
1.flash base
2.reboot recovery.
3.flash helly bean initial
4.flash hellybean xxx(device name)
5. Flash add on.
6. Go into advanced. Fix permissions.

Yes, but it gives me the status 7 in step 4. I did a factory reset, wiped cache/dalvik, flashed glitch kernel, flashed initial, reboot recovery, flashed base, flashed vibrant rom, then i get the status 7 error about half-way through the install.

I thought about starting over completely. Reformat everything and reflash stock with Odin and start with a blank phone. I don't want to loose any info but at this point I don't think I care anymore.
I have Titanium back up, but if I reformat, it will not reinstall my apps correct? If you can't tell, I'm new to the game here.

Youre supposed to wipe data, wipe dalvik cache and cache, format system, and then install the initial package. After that, reboot recovery, then flash the base. After that, flash the file made for your device (hellybean vibrant 0807) and then flash the addon. After all that, reboot. I dont think you're supposed to get a status 7 error, because thats how the developer says to do it.

Actually that was on some of the earlier builds such as 0804 and 0805 and perhaps 0806 as well. 0807, I can say that it is working. I just checked the thread, and another user reported that he was on 0807 and it runs fine. Just putting this out there for you all to know.

That's what I did, but I can't get past the vibrant flash file. I get the status 7 error in the middle of the install (symlinks failed).
I didn't format the system partition. I can try doing that too. I won't lose my backups or apps (titanium backup) will I? I suppose i could back them up to the external SD and remove it.
I'll try that this evening. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for everyone's input.

Hi, all!
I have that annoying problem with all the 4.3 ROM I've tried with no exception. Everything is fine until the first reboot. Then it's stuck on the first Galaxy SIII boot logo. I'm using TWRP - the latest version if it matters.
I always wipe everything first.
Please give more details on how you flash it.

I always wipe data, cash, dalvik cash, system. Then install the ROM and gapps...
After the restart I set up the google account and etc. And after the first restart the phone freezes. That's all.
I'll try with different recovery.
PS. I've just tried CWM recovery 6.0.3.3. and Omega AOSP v9. Still the same.
Try cwm 6.0.3.6 and after you install the rom and after its set up go to recovery and factory reset

That's strange, I run Philz recovery and every 4.3 flash till now went through without issue.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I tried all the recoveries I could find. Including Philz. Still the same.
And something else strange. I installed CWM, CWM, touch and Philz and with them I made backups. After restoration of the backup the phone freezes. I also tried to install Omega 49 and the installation goes OK, but freezes before the first start-up.
The only solution was to install manually TWRP (Odin) to restore some of my old backups. I'm beginning to think that there is something wrong with my phone. It's black if it is important.
Suggest total wipe of phone install your stock rom and test
Hi,
I just want to say I'm also having the same problem.
Started using TWRP with full wipe, same issue on 4.3 and no issues on 4.2.
On latest CWM same problem and 4.2 wont even pass the first boot on Samsung logo.
Also had to use Odin to get back on TWRP and flash a 4.2 rom again.
Anyway there is one more thing I would like to try but haven't had the chance to do so, is installing the latest modem and ril. But I'm kind skeptic about that currently because there is also some risks and my S3 is my daily driver.
Don't change the ril on any custom as you stand a big chance of breaking the calls and Tex's. Modem yes but not ril. Do change to cwm and retry.

You are doing a full wipe?. System and data is the main thing to wipe not just factory reset. So go into mounts and storage and format data, system and cache there then flash the rom /gapps.

1. Flash stock with odin
2. Hard reset
3. Boot up and finish first run menus
4. Flash twrp with odin
5. Format data with twrp
6. Flash 4.3 rom
Is there a known issue that some of the GT-9100 S2 phones are unable to boot and 4.2.2 and above ROMs? I never seem to get them to work.
Rooting and flashing base ROMs like those using 4.1.2 such as Neat ROM are possible, but whereas 4.2.2 or 4.3 such as CM never get to work on my device. They just boot forever.
Can you tell me what steps you follow when you try to install custom roms? Booting forever probably means you flashed something wrong or forgot to wipe.

I do the same for both Base ROMs and the other Newer ROMs.
Copy files on to SD Card
Reboot into Recovery
Factory reset
Install ROM and Gapps if needed
Factory reset again
Reboot
Boots forever for any 4.2.2 ROM and above / Success for Base ROMs
Do this
Format in mounts and storage these things.
Data
System
Cache
Then in advanced wipe dalvik cache
Then flash rom and the right gapps and reboot when flash is done.
Don't wipe SD or emmc and also make sure you have the right gapps for 4.2.2 roms.

Make sure you have I9100 and not any other variant,
Put your custom rom in internal sd card,
Go to recovery and use hawkerpauls wipe script before flashing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100558 ,
Make sure you are using the correct gapps, u can skip installing gapps and after installing custom rom and see if that is the problem, if its the problem use another gapps package.
Hey,
So, I was using 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) for a very long time but now I want to update to 4.4.2 (Kitkat).
But I am not sure, how to do it correctly.
I've tried it by my own but all I got now, is that the phone gets stuck at the "Samsung Galaxy S3"-Bootscreen.
What I did :
-Update CWM
-Reset (factory/system, cache and dalvik)
-Flash 4.4.2 CM11 rom (tried crSimple, Archidroid and the original CM11)
Is there something else I have to do, to get 4.4.2? Like unroot and install stock rom?
By the way; My phone is already rooted and I had the null_ (v26) Rom on it.
Sorry if a post like this already exists. I used the searchfunction but I found nothing and even google didn't help me
I appreciate every kind of help, ty

Format /system is done in recovery mode under "mount and storage" then after that you can restore your nandroid if it is done with the same recovery you use now. If you're on PhilZ 6, it usually can restore also CWM 6 backups.

Mate, sorry for waiting, I was out of home. We will get your ROM back as soon as the phone boots again.
Don't worry, it doesn't sound serious so far. We have recovery and download mode (so topic name "nothing works" isn't really correct)
Formatting /system wipes all data from the system partition (so your system will be gone then) and it is important to do before installing new ROMs (essencially important for KitKat). It can't do any harm. As you have tried to install other kernels and didn't work we should check first what did you try to flash so far and it didn't boot? Is that what you wrote all what you have tried?
Now let me know please which recovery do you have now and is it the same version like when you have created your nandroid backup? If the recovery is the same, I would indeed try to restore nandroid backup right after wiping /system. Before you wipe the system just let me know: can you use ADB? If yes, check do you have ADB connection in the recovery mode?

Hi! Internal memory usually shouldn't get wiped by formatting /system, as it is "storage", not part of the system. I would give a try, wipe all: data/factory reset, cache, dalvik cache (advanced) and format /system (mounts and storage). Then back to the main menu --> backup & restore --> restore from (internal or external memory where your nandroid is saved) and choose your backup. It should reboot normally then.

Yes, mate, CWM 6.0.4.5 is capable of flashing KitKat.
It is usually always the same:
download your ROM zip and compatible Gapps
check in the phone (or PC) if the zips are corrupted through download (if they open after clicking them, they are fine)
move the zips to the folder you will flash it from (if you use PC to flash zips with ADB sideload, put them in the sdk/platform-tools folder)
make nandroid backup of your presently used ROM
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache (advanced)
format /system (under mount and storage)
flash ROM.zip
flash Gapps
reboot
It is in general always good to read in the development thread of the ROM you attend to flash in the opening post which Gapps are recommended, or if there is some unusual order of flashing (sometimes, developers recommend reboot system after flashing ROM, and after that going to recovery and flash Gapps zip.
Some KitKat ROMs struggle with root access by using Superuser, so SuperSU should be flashed. If SuperSU app from Play Store gives errors by updating binary, you should uninstall SuperSU app then, find in the Chainfire's thread the compatible UPDATE-SuperSu.zip (version for your phone), flash its zip in the recovery, install SuperSU app, update binary (either "normal" or "through CWM/TWRP")
