Tried to Flash Helly Bean - Status 7 - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to swich ROMs. I am currently on Jellybro and really want to try Helly Bean. Has anyone tried/had issues going from Jellybro to Helly Bean? I followed the flash instructions and I am getting a status 7 error. Any ideas how to fix? I've searched the Helly Bean thread in the development forum, but I'm too much of a n00b to figure out what they are saying most of the time. Do I need to start from scratch (Odin back to stock)?
If I have to Odin, I'll do some more searching to figure out how to get from stock to Helly Bean.
Thanks in Advance!

Check this out. Seemed to work with previous build.

I just tried the Glitch kernel fix and I am still getting the same status 7 error: symlinks failed. I got the same error last week, but I had assumed it was the updater.sh script as described by hurtz777.
It always fails on the vibrant install, the initial and the base work just fine. Do I need to reflash the glitch kernel after the base installation?
Any other ideas?

Did you follow the steps directly.
1.flash base
2.reboot recovery.
3.flash helly bean initial
4.flash hellybean xxx(device name)
5. Flash add on.
6. Go into advanced. Fix permissions.
7. Reboot

Yes, but it gives me the status 7 in step 4. I did a factory reset, wiped cache/dalvik, flashed glitch kernel, flashed initial, reboot recovery, flashed base, flashed vibrant rom, then i get the status 7 error about half-way through the install.

What about formatting system partition?

I thought about starting over completely. Reformat everything and reflash stock with Odin and start with a blank phone. I don't want to loose any info but at this point I don't think I care anymore.
I have Titanium back up, but if I reformat, it will not reinstall my apps correct? If you can't tell, I'm new to the game here.

Still getting the error. I flashed the glitch kernel, flashed initial, reboot, flashed base, flashed glitch, flashed base again, then flashed vibrant rom and boom... status 7 error some symlinks failed.
WTF this is frustrating...

Reflash the kernel then flash the rom

Same error. ugh...

Youre supposed to wipe data, wipe dalvik cache and cache, format system, and then install the initial package. After that, reboot recovery, then flash the base. After that, flash the file made for your device (hellybean vibrant 0807) and then flash the addon. After all that, reboot. I dont think you're supposed to get a status 7 error, because thats how the developer says to do it.

They have been getting a status seven on that thread. They said it was a sy link error. I can't remember how to fix it though
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app

Actually that was on some of the earlier builds such as 0804 and 0805 and perhaps 0806 as well. 0807, I can say that it is working. I just checked the thread, and another user reported that he was on 0807 and it runs fine. Just putting this out there for you all to know.

That's what I did, but I can't get past the vibrant flash file. I get the status 7 error in the middle of the install (symlinks failed).
I didn't format the system partition. I can try doing that too. I won't lose my backups or apps (titanium backup) will I? I suppose i could back them up to the external SD and remove it.
I'll try that this evening. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for everyone's input.

i googled the problem and i got here .. i had the same issue with captivate, rebooting after installing the base solved the issue for me .. don't forget to fix permissions after flashing the addons

I haven't gotten around to formatting the system partition yet. That will only affect the OS right, it won't delete any other data?

i fixed it with flashing stock kernel from odin..

I finally got it! Formatting the system partition is what did it! Thanks for everyone's suggestions!

Hellow fellas, just need some help regarding ICS--> JB [Solved]

I've been flashing roms for a while but I wouldn't call myself an expert on it. I'm trying to flash the latest version of slim bean 2.3 onto my phone from chimera v1.1
These are the steps I did: All of which were through team passion's recovery (Is this the problem does it need to be Clockworkmod recovery?)
wipe data/factory reset
clear cache and delvik cache
in mounts and storage I would format data, cache, system and datadata.
I'd then redo wipe data/factory and clear cache and delvik cache again.
Install zip:
flash 2.3 zip
flash slim gapps.zip
I would then restart and it would go through a boot loop.
anyone know why this is happening? Team passion has their own recovery which I think is to blame. Do I need to be using clockwork mod? Whenever I try to install it though it tells met vibrant (MTD) is not supported. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if I didn't search since I need my phone soon and just wanted an answer as soon as possible!
I think when I was on slimbean you needed to flash the device zip reboot flash the device again and the common.

The common is the gapps correct? Otherwise I cannot find the common file???
You no longer need common, it is integrated, just device and gapps.
When you say clockwork mod says vibrant mtd not supported are you referring to ROM manager?
You shouldn't flash it through ROM manager. The issue is probably due to change of partitions/kernel. Flash the device zip then go to advanced and reboot recovery and flash it again. That should fix it. The other option is to Odin BTS (2.1) and go from there.

just an update I decided to try one last thing before I had to odin back to stock. I reflashed with the previous version 2.2 (slim bean) then flashed the brand new version (2.3) And it worked!
Seems there's a problem with flashing 2.3 alone with gapps without having any prior slim bean on. So I'm now running jelly bean. Hopefully avoiding the dreaded eu bug of ICS.
Can you write (Solved) in the subject line op.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 10.2 stuck on circle

This is my first time trying to install this I have a Samsung galaxy s2 T989 And I'm pretty sure I've done it right. I factory wiped it, cleared the cache and the cleared the cache in advanced settings. It's been atlesst over 10min and its still on the blue circle just spinning around.
Can someone please help me?
When I installed cm10.2 for the first time mine done that. Best bet and worked for me is do a battery pull and reboot. If that don't push you past the spinning circle which I ran across you should reinstall the ROM again and it should boot up just fine. Hope this helps
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
You've bootlooped it. The T989 is a pain when flashing custom ROM's because the custom recovery's built in wipe doesn't quite work for it.
Keep this ZIP handy as you'll be needing to run it every single time you need to wipe data/cache and dalvik. Don't ever ever use any other means of wiping aside from this one until this issue is fixed. I've been doing this for a while and have flashed upwards of 20 ROM's on my T989 alone.
It's called Darkside Super Wipe.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955
So, just put that ZIP on your SD card, along with your custom ROM and appropriate Gapps. Flash Darkside first (always) then flash ROM then Gapps. Then reboot and problem solved!!
Good luck!! :highfive:
So after putting that in my sd card. Install that and gapps and cm10.2?

Nope, just run the Darkside Super Wipe and it'll erase all /system, /data and /cache partitions. And like the thread says, it won't wipe your SD card or EMMC.
Just make sure you don't leave the recovery without flashing the ROM and Gapps
Also, you should get in the habit of making backups. You can make them from CWM or TWRP's custom recovery.
Titanium backup is an application on the Google Play store that you should look into as well my friend.
T989 Tears
Very finicky phone for customs. On mine I can get no ROM to fully load other than the stock Koodo 4.04, and CM 10.0 I flashed the latest radio for JB, darkside super wipe, flash custom rom, flash gapps, wipe dalvik. The same process for every ROM i try... still no success, 10.2 stays at boot. Dirty Unicorns starts boot, goes through the "optimizing apps" stage gets to the "starting apps" and reboots, lather, rinse, repeat. I've tried a few others, AOKP and some others. Still only Koodo 4.04 and CM 10.0 will fully boot. Not even the stock T-mobile 4.03 will boot (came with phone). Going to give JMT a shot, it looks pretty

Phone bootloops after rebooting freshly installed rom

Just as the title says.
Here is the series of events that led up to this.
Picked up a Moto X yesterday and am giving the phone to my father. I factory wipe, clear data and cache, and also format data via TWRP. Install a copy of CleanROM 1.6 Odex on there since that has been my most stable ROM to date. Boots up fine after installation, so I reboot into recovery to create a backup of the ROM for him in case he does anything that messes it up. Go to reboot the phone after a successful backup and the phone hangs at the Galaxy S4 bootscreen.
This is where I'm at now. I have tried everything that I can to get the phone to boot up, and the only thing that will work is to do a data format again and a fresh install. That's all well and good, until I reboot the phone and then it goes right back to not booting. I never took the ME7 update or applied an ME7 ROM. Is there a way to fix the data partition issue that I believe I'm having? Is my only option to Odin back to stock?

2.5.0.2 I believe. What is the best version to use? It doesn't matter too much at this point since I ended up using ODIN to flash back to stock and re-rooted. I do want to install a custom ROM for him though. What version of TWRP is the best?
Check out this thread - similar issue solved.

Phone has stopped working - need really fast help!

Hi. I tried to flash newest version of GApps (full modulare which I have never use before, allways the stock) and newest version of CyanogenMod 11 Nightly. I'm also using CWM Recovery 6.0.4.6 in my GT-I9300. Someone in CyanogenMod forums told me to wipe all data/factory, cache and dalvic cache to make CM's trebuchet, before flashing a new ROM and GApps.
I tried that and result was that I'm getting the ****ing "PHONE HAS STOPPED WORKING" - problem.. Huger problem is that I need this phone tommorow in work, and it ruins my day totally if I don't get it work by tommorow.
Because of Wipe ALL data / factory reset, I do not have even any backup file in my device. What to do to fix it!?

Thank you for helping. I flashed stock 4.3 Jelly Bean with Odin by using XDA's tutorial. Now I need to root my phone again to get CyanogenMod 11 and KitKat, but It's okay. Still don't know how to get CM11's Trebuchet work correctly. Problem is that if I flash PAGapps stock package, I get the phone work correctly, but Trebuchet disappears. If I flash full package of PAGapps, Trebuchet should work, but then this error happends and I need to flash stock rom with Odin.
What to try next?

If you are flashing custom roms you do not need to root, custom roms come already rooted...I'm not sure which gapps are compatible with cm11 but have you tried Banks gapps I use them on Fusion kitkat rom (if they are compatible)..
Obviously there is some app in the full gapps that is causing your problem. As for CM11 launcher can't you use another launcher?

Not booting after flashing various roms

So I desperately need help here! Using a GT-i9300 here.
Been at this for like 7 hours or so.
Was running a 4.1.2 rom for quite a while, thought I'd bump it up to 4.4.2 today.
Was thinking about flashing Resurrection Remix rom, so did the usual downloaded the files but noticed somewhere you need a 4.2.2 or above rom already in use to be flashing a 4.4.2. So went to S4 revolution rom (4.2.2). Then decided to flash the 4.4.2 rom.
Did the usual, data wipe, cache wipe, dalvik cache wipe. Flashed the rom. Then Gapps.
Now here's the messed up part, after flashing the phone would boot to the Rom logo. And it hasn't moved since. Thought something was up, flashed it again, did the take battery out thing also.
Thought it would be a ROM problem, so flashed 2 other roms. Neat rom and Gummy rom. Same result.
The 4.2.2 rom is working btw. So any ideas?!
Please! Reallly want the 4.4.2
Thank you!

Please read the RR thread again. You need a full wipe for it to work. Try a 4.3-based Rom like Omega and then search XDA on how to do a FULL wipe. Then proceed with RR.

Sorry, I've forgotten the link to the method. Maybe someone else can also shed light on this matter.
But if I remember:
- Wipe Cache,
- Wipe dalvik,
- format /system,
- format /data,
- format /cache.
- Then install the Rom.zip.
PS: Don't do "format /data and /data/media" section or it will delete everything on the internal SD. If you do this, make sure you have an external SD with a ROM placed in it (don't wipe this too) otherwise you will end up in a very difficult situation like i did

You're right. "format /data" does not erase the root directoy. But I found "format /data and /data/media and /sdcard" option deleted everything on my S3 and even adb sideload failed for me after selecting it. After that I had to reflash stock via Odin.
+1 to ext SD

Usually I would just flash the mega wipe zip to get the device clean (only leaves ext. sd) and then start reflashing from scratch. I find it easier than doing it manually in recovery.

Hey! Sorry got a bit busy but just got around to what you all recommened today and it's still no use.
Did everything this time.
First, I tried flashing the RR rom with the full wipe as you said. Oh and I'm using CWM 6.0.4.7
- Moved the zip file to ext SD
- wipe data
- wipe cache
-wipe dalvik cache
- format /system,
- format /data,
- format /cache.
During this got a status 6 error with the RR rom and I had put a Gummy Rom (4.4.2) just in case so tried the same process with this also but got a status 7 error with this one.
Left both, downloaded CM 11. Did the same process while on the 4.2.2 rom with it. This got stuck on the boot screen. Like the CM logo was going around for 30 minutes.
Finally when I couldnt tolerate it, removed battery, moved to 4.2.2 again and downloaded a 4.3 rom. Again, CM.
You wouldnt believe this but this also didnt work! This got stuck on the same thing. CM logo is still flashing around. Been watching this for 20 minutes now.
So, you guys got any ideas? Really pissing off.
Btw, thanks for the previous replies )
Oh and btw, would it matter if I didnt flash gapps after flashing the rom?
Those are just for the Google services and not related to whether the rom is booting up to home screen right?

Try a stock-based 4.3 like omega rom after flashing stock 4.1.2
Use Philz Recovery like tallman43 said. I prefer that over others.
If it doesn't work then maybe there's some compatibility issues.
