boot into recovery mode with stock recovery, hold power and volume up until you get a menu with options such as reboot, load from sdcard, load from phone storage, load from cache, etc. Choose load from phone storage and navigate to where you saved the zip.
Can anyone that has taken the update please pull a system dump and post a link. Would really appreciate it.

Will the OTA wipe the phone or will data all be intact?
Edit: just tried it. Data is intact!

The filename has OTA in it. It's pretty obvious.
I'm doing something wrong... I can't seem to flash this.
I'm on Stock S-On Locked.
Loaded to sdcard as update.zip
I went into Bootloader > Recovery > Vol Up+Power
selected update from sdcard
keeps getting check cid and then it reboots.

The update worked fine for me
if your getting check CID error you have changed your CID or your download is corrupt did you md5 check the file ?
it should be: 5f4a4c44524a38297ea18d0b0a9d099f
I put the file in the root of the sdcard and choose "Apply from phone storage" in recovery. I got a /cache error so I choose to clear the cache then choose the file again and it flashed fine

My checksum is 5f4a4c44524a38297ea18d0b0a9d099f as well.
I did have my CID changed to SuperCID however I changed it back to normal when I reverted it back to stock and then flashed RUU.
Also tried clearing cache and then doing apply from phone storage... same thing.
Check CID failed or something like that and automatic reboot.
I think I'm going to be stuck waiting for an RUU.
For some reason I keep getting the triangle with the exclamation mark when trying to boot into recovery. Weird.
download a stock RUU 4.3 image and flash using fastboot.
then use OTA.

I already did that.
RUU_M7_UL_JB43_SENSE50_MR_TMOUS_3.24.531.3_Radio_4A.21.3263.03_10.38m.1157.04_release_336982_signed_2
that I had downloaded from HTC.
Sad part is until HTC releases RUU for this, I won't be able to install it looks like. When I do a check for updates, it returns that I have the latest version.
I am off TMobile right now overseas... so I am going to have to wait, since that is why I can't probably do an update check... oh well.. As soon as I get back to the states I am sending this phone in for warranty anyways, has the horrible purple tint issue.

I did the same thing and got the same "no update.."
I am not sure how to use this OTA file. Would someone kindly chime in. I did a lot of searching this morning still not much luck.
I have unlocked bootloader, S-OFF, TWRP, on 4.3 using RUU, rooted.
Question:
1) I can I use this OTA image with TWRP or must I use stock recovery. If I must have stock recovery, how do I get back Stock recovery, without going through RUU again?
2) can I use this with SuperCID?
Sorry if some of these questions maybe obvious to you but I am new coming from Galaxy Note 2 last week.

My rezound has the stock ROM that came with the phone. It was locked and rooted. While it was rooted, I defrosted all the apps in Titanium so it was stock. I then relocked the phone. I am also S-On. I started the 299mb update and it appeared to load but nothing happens, I tried a factory reset but it won't reset. Amon Ra is no longer on the phone but apparently Titanium is still working so I must still be rooted. Is that what is keeping me from loading the new ICS? If so, how do I unrooted the phone. I don't see a way to uninstall Superuser. I have tried the factory reset in both the settings/storage and the one in hboot and neither will reset the phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
use the stock ice ota ruu zip file from android police.

Thanks, I have tried the stock GB RUU 2.01.605.11 to get back to stock but it gives me an error message about the bootloader in the end and does downgrade the current 2.01.605.12 I have.
I am still rooted so is that a problem--do I need to unroot first?
I'll download your suggested ICS OTA. Why is this OTA twice as large as the OTA coming over the phone? It also states that the phone needs to be locked and fully stock. Again, I am locked but can't get back to fully stock.
being rooted should not be a problem.
I was rooted and bootloader locked and it went well.
You will lose root.
The ruu is larger because it contains everything. The OTA is smaller because it only contains files which have changed.
good luck,
Howard
p.s. I have read advise that it is best to install the ruu twice, then let it boot up normally the first time before installing customized things like hboot, recovery, kernel, or ROM.

Sadly, I downloaded the 4.03.605.2 file, renamed it PH98IMG.zip put it on the external SD card root folder, powered down, did a power + vol down, and the phone went to bootloader but did not see the file. Had done the same thing with a GB stock recovery file and it didn't recognize it either. Phone is relocked. Very frustrating.

Sometimes people accidentally rename it PH98IMG.ZIP.ZIP because windows, by default, hides the file extension name.
Also make sure the file is located on the top directory on sdcard2. You can download the free ES File explorer to look at the file on the phone.
If you can't manage to rename the file properly and place it in the right location, then it simply will not install.

Howard, your brilliant. The file did have the double "zip". So, I loaded it on to the external sd card, checked it in Root Explorer to see that it was on the top directory and labeled correctly. Went into Boodloader and it recognized it and went through the process. After the first flash, I flashed it again as suggested and then did a factory reset before booting the first time. Then I rebooted and nothing had happened--no ICS and no factory reset!!!!
The RUU did not work, the factory reset does not work (either from the bootloader or the settings menu) so I'm still relocked, rooted, and using 2.01.605.12. Before I tried the ICS updated, I tried to downgrade to 2.01.605.11 but again, it flashed in bootloader but did nothing.
I'm about ready to give up on updating to ICS sadly.
That is very strange.
An RUU should reinstall everything.
Maybe you have no recovery?
You mentioned in your first post that you have no recovery?
Maybe the RUU uses recovery for some functions like factory reset and other things?
Maybe later well connect on yahoo messenger and try to get the stock recovery installed on your phone. I am not sure it will solve thus, but it is something to try.
Right now I am not home to help you.
On second thought, I really do not understand why an RUU will not replace all software and firmware on your phone. It should replace your hboot, recovery, kernel, system, radios, etc..
I have a little anxiety trying to replace portions of your system with that in the RUU.
You currently have a working phone, and I'd rather not risk turning it into a non working phone.
Perhaps others here have some ideas as to why the ICS RUU failed to work for you, yet gave you no error messages.
Regards,
Howard

I'm currently installing the ICS OTA just to see what happens but I doubt if it will take. If that fails, I'll reinstall AmonRa 3.15 and see if that does anything. Again, thanks for all your input.

Howard, I think I solved it. It was the mainver--it was older. I unlocked again and then installed a generic mainver that works with any install. Now I have everything back to stock GB, wiped, and relocked. I think I'm going to start with with the official ICS OTA and see where that goes.
Thanks for all your help.

I can't seem to get back to stock for some reason, I've googled, searched the forums used the search function in the forums followed all those steps with bootloader unlocked and relocked and still Can't get to stock. My phone details are
HTC Amaze 4g (TELUS)
Android version: 4.0.3
Recovery: 4EXT
I'm not sure what other information is needed, I tried this thread here tried both files, the first one i tried restoring from recovery, says the MD5 sums don't match so I didn't want to take the chance. The second file the .exe attempted that failed right away and after removing battery phone went back to the same way it was. tried renaming the first file to PH85IMG and relocked bootloader, the flash succeeded it seemed, but once phone loaded nothing was changed..which I found very weird. It formatted I wiped caches, fixed permissions and get back to home screen after it was all done, and my apps were all still installed and settings were exactly the same and everything. (I had the feeling I'm already on stock and that's why its not working), the whole reason I was trying to get to stock is because in order to s-off juopunutbear's tutorial, where it didn't work the troubleshooting said problem is im not stock, or! i have certain programs installed. But I just reformatted and just installed the basics, so I have nothing that would interfere as far as I know.

You just need a Telus ICS stock RUU, not gb RUU. Rename the zip rom to ph85img, not the exe file, put to your sd, relock and boot the bootloader. It will scan and ask you to update, just say yes.
you're done.

I haven't checked for the Telus one. I've the Videotron ICS RUU, but it's won't help unless you're cid free. For the .exe, you have to get the rom, not rename the .exe to .zip. Just search in your temp (%temp%), when you activate the RUU you'll see some new folders. Look for it, rename and you're done.
Maybe someone else could post a direct link.
Maybe you can directly try with the OTA to get back. boot into stock recovery, if you have the red triangle error, hold volume up and press the power button, should give you a menu, then install update from external, select the OTA RUU and install.
Try that, maybe it will solve your prob.

Hmm I found the rom.zip but I can't do anything with it, just says its invalid.
where do you get the invalid message? I've extracted the rom.zip after starting the exe file, and renamed it and it worked no problem before. If I get a hold of my backup phone I'll see if I can load up a stock rom and do a backup, zip it and put it on dropbox for you. That won't be til tomorrow though, and at least that way you'll have the stock rom, one way or another

Are you going to settings> software update> check new?
From 605.12 you should get a small OTA first then the big one after that one is done. I just did same procedure in the last week on my wife's phone.
Btw might want to be on WiFi if you aren't already for the download.
Having the same issue here as OP and been searching forums for days looking for help...
First, I'm on 605.13 already, stock ROM, rooted with Amon ra. I realize the steps I need to take but can't find any specifics.
Could someone please spell out the specifics of how to flash the stock recovery, and if I can use the 605.12 RUU to do this being on .13 already. I keep seeing others posting about just renaming a file to recovery.img and pushing using fastboot, but I'm not sure how to obtain the correct file.
Do you relock bootloader first or flash stock recovery first and the relock? BTW I'm s-on stil. Thanks in advance

For some apparent reason the 605.13 update downloaded this afternoon and the 605.14 updated. Its all set after a frustrating 2 weeks of digital torture. thanks to all that helped. I had to scour all these resources and forums to get this done but this is what worked for me. I relocked the bootloader then I used the 605.12 RRU.exe program. After about a day I checked for the updates and they downloaded and installed successfully.
Xander, since you just got this working, can you please confirm the process - I'm about to do this myself and want to verify the steps...
1) Reboot into hboot > fastboot and relock bootloader via fastboot oem lock
2) download 3.14.605.12 RUU.exe (I'm currently on 3.14.605.13)
3) Reboot phone into hboot > fastboot usb
4) run RUU.exe from PC
Is that it? Anything I'm missing here or am I on the right path?

U have step 1 and step 2 correct. Step 3 would be to connect the phone to the computer and run the 605.12 ruu.exe tool. After that u are now back to a stock phone. After the initial setup of adding your gmail account and contacts you can now go into system settings and check for update. As I stated before my phone would not download the update for some odd reason. I tried it a couple more times without success. Today on a whim I went to check for the update again and it started to download. After the small 6mb file was complete the next update for 605.14 downloaded without anny issues. Make sure you delete any zip files off your external SD card labeled ph98img.zip if u tried that method.
Step1 relock boot loader
Step2 run 3.14.605.12 ruu.exe
Step3 check for updates
Step4 unlock phone if you want to
I hope this helps anyone. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks.. Got it! And I got both the 13 and 14 updates almost immediately afterwards. I appreciate the confirmation about the process...

Can anyone point me to where to find the 3.14.605.12 ruu.exe? I didn't want to spend all day flashing my phone, but ok, I guess I can to get rid of this annoying update.

Check the march 10 2013 thread titled rezound in trouble please help. The download link is there. Its under the vigor section.
Here is the RUU I used without issues:
shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vigor
(http removed from link due to forum limitations)
3rd from the bottom...
A long time ago I rooted my phone, and I think I installed a new ROM on it.
Some time after that I decided I just wanted everything back to stock, so I took off root and re-locked the phone. (In hboot my phone says s-on and **relocked**)
As of late I have the need to get some kind of tethering app working so I was trying to unlock and root my phone again. The way I saw to do it was to use this link http://unlimited.io/jb_vigor.htm
I went ahead and set up my laptop to dual boot into Ubuntu, and have all the other prereqs done, but I'm not sure if I ever went back to the stock ROM on my rezound.
I followed the instructions on this page http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/08/15/exclusive-download-full-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/
But received this an error saying "hboot main version is older, update failed"
I'd like to think I'm pretty capable with this stuff but I'll be honest, I'm not exactly sure where this leaves me.

Ok, no need to rename it or anything? Just put it on the sdcard, boot into hboot, and select recovery?
When I do this I get a picture of a phone with a "!" inside of a red triangle next to it.

You have the stock recovery on your phone.
You need to unlock and install a custom recovery first.
This may help

About to do that. Just to be sure, are you suggesting that I use his HTC One AIO kit, or the one he made for the rezound?

I unlocked the phone, which was a pain in the butt since I was using a windows 8 computer.
I loaded TWRP on it, but I'm not 100% sure what you mean when you say flash, there is no "recovery" option.

boot into TWRP recovery, press install, find the file, Swipe to confirm flash.
Then You can install a rom the same way. Just remember since you are S-on, extract the Boot.img from the rom and Place in your fastboot folder,
and fastboot flash it or it will not boot.
"fastboot flash boot boot.img"
If you want a rom just to tether with, any Sense rom should work.

Looking in the stock RUU I downloaded there is no Boot.img, and there is no kernel folder (I found the directions here http://androidforums.com/rezound-all-things-root/499172-how-manually-flash-roms.html#post3933400 ) The only thing I want to do is tether. Do I need s-off for that? The only reason I'm loading up this RUU (or ROM, not sure which it is) is so I can have the stock ROM so I can use the JuopunutBear S-OFF so I can tether. I should actually google s-off vs s-on, I really don't know the difference. Does s-off just mean rooted?
Also, I really appreciate all your help. There's no way I would have been able to figure this out on my own. Thanks.

Ok, I may just flash a rooted rom then.
Since I already have the key to unlock my phone I tried re-locking it and flashing a RUU Zip, but I got the message "remote: 44 hboot version check fail
Not sure what this means, does this not work on hboot 2.28?
I may just end up doing the rooted rom, I just figured I'd go ahead and try this for ****s n giggles.
Try this
download this file, place on your sd card just like the other file and install in recovery
This will root the rom you are on

Not since you are S-on because the Ruu you have has an older Hboot. you can only go backwards with S-off

Fantastic, Got it all working! Thanks again for your help.
EDIT: Even though I have superSU on the phone, When I try to update the su binary the installation fails. And Barnacle Wifi Tether says "Permission Denied!" and "Stopped Unexpectedly!"
I'm sure I'm close. But I'll have to finish it up in the morning.
I installed the original superuser from the market and that seemed to work. Now I'm getting other tethering errors. I'll edit if I can't figure them out.

I realized after I posted the root file you are on latest firmware and that wont work on Hboot 2.28.
I was misled by your thread title, thought you were on older firmware
Download/Flash this in recovery
http://download.chainfire.eu/333/Sup...erSU-v1.34.zip
Then install Busybox from playstore using this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....busybox&hl=en
Inside the app choose /system/bin at the top checkmark replace all symlinks choose install then choose smart install.
you can get root checker from the playstore to verify root
For tether app use this one
View attachment wireless_tether_3_2.apk
go into settings
change device-profile = samsung galaxy nexus(cmda/lte)
scroll down check routing fix box

Hi everyone,
I have an M8 that has been rooted and has s-off. One of my friends helped me do this. It is at version 4.4.2. When I download the OTA package, it boots to teamwin and when I try to flash the ota package it fails. Is there something that I am missing? Do I need to un-root it and turn s-on? Thanks in advance.

You need to revert back to stock recovery. Stock recovery is required to install OTA.
Unrooting is not needed to OTA. Going back S-on is not needed either, and absolutely not recommended.
How would I go about going back to stock recovery? I think I tried this in the past but was never able to get it to work correctly.

See is someone has posted it, then flash in fastboot.
You are still on the stock ROM? What software number in Settings>About>Software information?
Alternately, if you don't care about your personal data being wiped and setting up the phone again (there are various ways to backup and restore your data, especially since you are rooted) you can just RUU up to the current OS version.

You can get the stock recovery for that software number here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/development/att-stock-backups-recoveries-otas-t2855966
If the ROM isn't stock, the OTA will fail and tell you so. You can get the stock ROM backup from the same thread,

That is what stock recovery is. You can OTA by booting normally and checking for software update in settings.

So I got my recovery back to stock. I download the update fine but when it goes to reboot into recovery, it starts to update and a little into it, I get a red triangle and I have to reboot my phone. When it comes back up, I get the message saying "There was a problem with this software update that prevented installation." Any suggestions?

Delete the OTA file (believe it should be in Downloads folder) and try to download the update again.
Or just RUU as I mentioned previously.

Hi Redpoint, I deleted the OTA file and tried again with the same results. How would I go about RUU? And you mentioned before that this will wipe my device, correct? Will it change me being rooted and having s-off? Thank you so much for the assistance, I really appreciate it

RUUs are linked on my Index thread under "RUUs": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432
Yes, the RUU will wipe the device. So backup anything you want to keep accordingly.
You can RUU all the way up to Lollipop. Just download the RUU to a PC, connect the phone, and run the RUU executable. The rest is self-explanatory by the RUU program, and very easy.
Since you are s-off, no need to relock the bootloader to RUU. Relocking the bootloader is required to run the RUU with s-on. I know that you are s-off (and this doesn't apply to you), but just wanted to add that in case anyone else reads this and tries it (to avoid confusion).
S-off will remain after RUU.
You will lose root. So after RUU, just install custom recovery again, and root by your desire method again. The same would happen if you updated by OTA.
