I dont want to root my phone, i have searched everywhere on the web, i can't find the version XXEMA5 baseband, what region my phone belongs too
Which country did you get your S3 from? Or which carrier? Some country/carrier might not providing the update yet. Check this list to see whether your S3 suppose to be getting the update or not.

I bought this phone in Pakistan. I have told everything in detail, please help me, why is my s3 still saying you got the latest firmware installed. XEMf6 build number, XXEMA5 is baseband...
You have the latest firmware for YOUR phone you wait for your provider to update .
That is the official update .
Alternative .
If you want to update then you flash a stock rom for your region from sammobile or samsung-updates or xda stock rom thread .
If your region has not been updated then flash any stock rom and test .
Your baseband shows as Gulf Countries origin see faqs and guides .

It means my phone is for Afghnistan region, i am stuck, i think i will never get an update if this phone belongs from there....
If you won't follow the advice given then no, you won't.

Please read JJEgan post above you! You can flash and test other stock roms from different regions with odin (you do not need to be rooted to do this) But if you want to do a full backup (nandroid) of your current rom then you need to be rooted, if you just want to save pictures/music just copy them to pc and flash via odin >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/guide-odin-flash-guide-t1671969 <<

If you can't upgrade through kies, ODIN will be your only choice, and you dont need to root your phone for that.

I got the Galaxy S2 from UK.
The firmware version is
PDA: I9100XWKE2
PHONE: I9100XXKDJ
CSC : I9100OXXKE2
Build Info: Friday May 6 07:48:55 KST 2011
When i connect to Kies, its says that this is the latest firware. Saw in may threads that KE7 is the latest.
Please help me install without using Odin.
KE 7 has not been rolled out by all providers yet .
Product code defines update ..
You can wait or use Odin .

No...data and settings will not be erased....enjoy...
Thanks guys.. it worked.. Only one problem i find now..
KIES is not detecting the phone..
Is it because i installed the UK firmware in India ??
EDIT: It detects the phone.. But shows,
"This version of the device cannot be updated"
Product code no longer matches firmware on Kies server or their is as of yet no update .
jje
Flash one more time to get your csc replaced with ke7 version.
Where do i get the CSC file from ??
Any link please??
Hello all,
I have used the following guide to debrand my S2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1064894 (I followed it to the letter including step 8) I assumed this would debrand the phone and allow me to use Kies to update the phone as normal without having to wait for my carrier to release updates. Note: this is the only reason I performed the debranding, I had no intention of ‘rooting’ the phone.
So you can imagine my horror when I connected the phone to Kies and was presented with the message:
“This version of the device cannot be updated”
Have I done something wrong? And is this fixable/reversible? I am now starting to wish I hadn’t been so impatient and tinkered with my new toy instead of leaving it to Vodafone…
If anyone knows how an idiots guide on how to fix this I would be very grateful for your advice. Below is some information off of the phone itself and Kies.
Kies says:
Current firmware version : PDA:KDD / PHONE:KDH / CSC:KD1 (VOD)
But if I press *#272*IMEI# The phone says: Sales code XEU
Note: Kies says VOD and the phone states XEU (is this where the problem lies?)
Also in settings>about phone, the following is displayed:
Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9100XXKDH
Kernel Version: [email protected]#2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKDD
Vod = Vodafone
XEU = UK
KDD very old firmware
CSC KD1 is VOD Vodafone CSC
Phone details all KDD
Kies never use it as i have never had an update after changing firmware and i have no intention of waiting six months for firmware .
Kies just does not like some changes made but works with others .
You can always put a Voda firmware on from provider roms thread .
or flash stock rom from stock rom thread .
jje
Thanks for your reply JJE, i thought i had flashed a stock rom? what have i flashed?
I would prefer to get the updates working over Kies if possible as if i had bought an unbranded phone. I thought that completing step 8 of the guide would change the CSC to a generic one, what is the reason for Kies seeing 'VOD'?
Thanks for sparing some of your time!

Never mind, i have solved the problem. Incase anyone else has the same issues the solution can be found below.
Update the phone by going to settings>about phone>software update then register for a samsung account. The phone then downloaded the update over the air and installed.
After this when i connect to Kies i get the message "This is the latest Firmware"
What version is the phone now after doing the update?

Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9100XXKE7
Kernel Version: [email protected]#2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKF3
*#1234# Gives:
PDA : I9100XWKF3
PHONE : I9100XXKE7
CSC : I9100XEUKD1
Kies says:
Current firmware version : PDA:KF3 / PHONE:KE7 CSC:KD1 (XEU)
KF3 firmware about as up todate via official channels as it gets .

I cant update via kies too. When i try ota update, cant connect to the server!

Another way to go is to use SpoofFw if you are rooted. It will spoof another branding and will let you update to that branding using kies. Root and busybox is needed.

When i come home, i will try it.

Kind of related to this thread... I had gotten the same message with stock firmware unrooted with KG2 firmware. Once I rooted it and flashed back the stock firmware, the message changed to "No updates currently available" instead of "This device cannot be updated". Strange.
Samsung understands when you root your phone the ROM or kernel you have put will not be recognized by them and hence the message...However, if you put in the stock firmware back then the updates by Samsung for your firmware version(if any) will be available for you.

It's actually backwards. When my device was completely stock, it said "This device cannot be updated". But now that it's rooted, it says "No updates currently available".
I tried everything and still indicate that the phone can be updated!!! this is sooo bored ... have someone idea what to do next? if next exist!

.
Kies only gives an update to the phone that have been updated by the phone provider .
Once you change the product codes then you may not get further kies updates .
A stock Samsung rom via Odin will not void warranty .

Hi There!
I was wondering if the latest firmware updates compatible with any of the SGS3 GT-I9300 devices?
The one I currently have right now has:
Android version : 4.0.4
Baseband version : I9300XXLFB
Build number : IIMM76D.I9300XXBLFB
And I am really planning to update this device to the latest Android version 4.1.2 but I cannot even update it at JellyBean through the Software update of the phone itself.
I really need your help guys.
Compatible yes .
Best no but that just means you flash a different modem .

Oh really? Didn't even know that. I thought that "Software update" updates the phone to the latest Android version. Anyways, I usually go to SamMobile for updating the firmware of my other device. Could I choose from any Country/Carrier listed to obtain the 4.1.2 update for this phone?
Up. I just would like to follow up this thread.
My questions are still left unanswered.
Any help would still be appreciated.
Still, follow up. I just need an answer.
When I use SamMobile to update the firmware, Could I choose from any Country/Carrier listed to obtain the 4.1.2 update or does it require to be from the carrier's release only?
Because there are instances that it takes a very long time to get the latest updates in my country and I really wanted to upgrade my Android version as soon as possible already.
Yes. I too had that same build number and baseband. From what I found, the region for that firmware is either United Arab Emirates or Kenya. I downloaded from sammobile.com the firmware for my country philippines. No problem at all, update 4.0.4 to 4.1.1. HTH
