Hello all

i have tried do root with odin and kernel of a specific rom but it fails in the end, says cannot write ,and is failed !!!
i need some help why the hell i cant root it ?
before this i sent to phone a zip of rom.booted into recovery and wiped cache, partitition but i couldnt see the walvik cache or advanced option ???
i understand that this may cause the malfunction of rooting ???
need help friends

You're not going to find "wipe dalvik" until you've installed CWM (an enhanced recovery) which usually comes bundled with a rooted kernel. You're also not going to be able to flash a custom ROM from the standard recovery.
The easiest method to root and install CWM is to flash a rooted kernel via the standard recovery.
Search XDA for PhilZ, follow the instructions and look for the kernel that matches your build.....good luck

hi keithros and thanks for the reply,i have tried many times with odin but it fails, check the attachment ....

ok buddy ,im not an expert on rooting devices but the last time i rooted my phone ,i installed kernel dorimanx and then flashed pac man rom 4.3.1 ,i had to return to the 4.1.2 cos the battery performance was very bad of pac man rom...
anyway if you can help me more, cos u have S2 too
could need some more help....

SOLVED
i finally rooted my device with odin v 1.85 and installed succesfully the kernel Siyah s2-v.6.0 b5 tar file.
then i flashed from internal sd,after sent the custumized rom to internal sd phone and now i have the rom i wanted.
thnx for the help keithross..
You may close this thread now
Regards.

STUCKED on Starting apps
i flashed the Optimus rom,but now it stucks on Android is upgrading,Starting apps !!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/rom-optimus-rom-v4-0-t2360552
i did a full wipe and format of the system but stucked on this !!!
maybe is because of the kernel ?? or i should flash the Kernel: Philz XWLSW-5.08.5 ???
cos i flashed another kernel ?? is this possible ....

Solved issue :d
i reinstalled the kernel Philz XWLSW-5.08.5 ,wiped again data and then i reinstalled the optimus rom,
i restarted phone and now i dont have the "Android is upgrading" ..
i fully use the phone now.
Thanks again fellas
Have a nice day

I suggest you update to a newer rom and kernel instead of Litening and still using old roms
Which kernel do you suggest then?

[Q] Recovered from a Soft brick. Resetting back to stock.. DOUBTS! :)

Hey Guys!
I just bought the mighty S2 and am loving it.
Baseband version: I9100DDLPA
Build Number: IML74K.XWLP7
I tried rooting my phone with ODIN and CF_ROOT method. This is the file version i used.
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip
Now after rooting, my phone booted automatically. When i tried restarting, it was getting stuck on the yellow triangle.
I then downloaded the other kernel and tried flashing that too with ODIN.
CF-Root-SGS2_DX_XTC_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip
But alas..
Then i downloaded the official ROM for my country and flashed it with ODIN. Fixed my phone. Below is the firmware i used.
GT-I9100_INU_I9100XWLP7_I9100ODDLP9_I9100DDLPA
This runs on ICS 4.0.3. I see that there's one more ROM of my country thats 4.0.4 on samsung-updates.
So my questions are as below
1) Which CF_ROOT version do i use to get my stock firmware rooted?
2) Is 4.0.4 any better than 4.0.3? Where do i find the changelog?
3) Can I flash a firmware of ANY country? Does it matter if I flash the firmware of my neighboring country?
4) Where do i find the stock kernel for my Firmware?
5) Does flashing the official firmware flash the stock kernel along with it? Meaning will it remove the Siyah-s2-v4.1.5 i am currently running :cyclops: ?
6) If 5 is yes, and if i need to by chance send my phone to the service center for warranty, and also if I am running a custom rom, will flashing the original firmware of my country + removing the yellow triangle + resetting the counter bring it back to warranty? ;P
7) Is there a way to try a ROM from the SD card without actually flashing it?
I seriously gotta parcel a crate of beer for the one who answers my questions.. One all set, I am in for trying out a custom ROM!

1 I don't know I use siyah kernel to root although there are full instructions in chainfires thread.
2 4.0.4 is better than 4.0.3 as it's an upgrade , use Google for change log.
3 yes you can flash any countries rom for your device.
4 in Stock rom. Just reflash the ROM to stock kernel, but this will loose root access.
5 yes. Correct.
6. It will remove triangle but you need triangle away app to reset counter. Credits to chainfire
7 no not that I know of.
Sir can I suggest you read the sticky threads in this forum. There are many excellent guides, advice, tips and information. You would do well to read them to save bricking your new device.

Yes to get stock kernel re-flash the whole stock rom. There is a method of extracting the kernel from the zip file but I've never tried it. Easy and safe to re flash whole rom package.

Thanks for the great help! +1 for ya
I noticed that flashing the firmware didnt make a single change to my phone. The apps and settings were totally intact. Will installing 4.0.4 too be the same? Also i heard about this brick bug on our phone. Does that happen while only wiping data/cahche using CWM? Is there an anther way of wiping data/cache/dalvik etc? other than factory reset for the bug

When moving between like firmwares (same number) you often do this without wiping data however when upgrading or down grading a full wipe is necessary. To avoid brick bug only wipe with a custom kernel eg siyah etc

[Q] brick bug

Hi .. i originally rooted my phone using " zirggles " ? it was something on you tube i found ! well it worked untill my s2 updated to 4.0.4 then i lost part of my root. i still have titanium back up ... but if i run root checker it says i don't have proper root. and some apps i cant download. i have checked and i do have an insane chip ! i want to root my phone properly again, but i know with this chip its risky. would it be ok to flash 4.0.3 firmware .. would this get rid of the brick bug ? if so is there somewhere i can download the firmware ? im curently on XXLQ6 or is there another way of rooting my phone properly again ? i have super user on the phone but it says outdated binary. please be understanding as i only joined yesterday and i am a total noob to this all

4.0.3 firmware is safe, the issue exists only in stock 4.0.4 ICS and if you are on 4.0.4 ICS don't perform any type of wipe, reset etc... Flash 4.0.3 firmware or lower version's like gingerbread or any custom rom with custom kernels, also custom kernels for 4.0.4 version's are safe theoretically but i still wont recommend it because I have seen people brick their phone from CWM, so the problem is with the kernel which has eMMc cap erase command, most custom kernels don't have it, but be warned an old Siyah kernel has it so use the newest one.
For the sake of safety i recommend that you flash 4.0.3 via Odin.

thanks a million

dwnld the tar file of siyah v4.1.5 (for galaxy S2) and flash the same using 'Odin', since its the best way ma8
Latest Siyah 5.0.1 should not be a problem as well. Using it for a week now.

Use the latest Siyah its pretty amazing, i consider Odin as the safest method, even though if you can obtain Siyah as a zip file you can do it via CWM which is also a pretty safe and easy method for noobs, if you downloaded a tar flash via Odin or Mobile Odin.

[Q] KyleOpen 3.4.1

I have Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 S7562
I was running rooted stock rom S7562XXBMJ1 (INDIA)
Few days ago, suddenly "Process System Not Responding" Msg popped up & since then device restarts automatically.
(I guess its because of the sql debugger app I installed)
I wiped dalvik-cache followed by fix permissions& did hard-reset from recovery mode.. but still I get the msg
After doing hard reset:
BaseBand: S7562DDBMJ1
Kernel: 3.08-1260195
Android 4.0.4
So I thought may be flashing custom ROM will fix the problem.
I rooted & installed CWM recovery
My Question is Can I flash KyleOpen 3.4.1 on my mobile directly .. (please take country(INDIA) & baseband into consideration)
Below thread says { Before installing KyleOpen ROM, make sure you are running S7562XXBMD6 as base ROM. }
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087177
Do I need to flash to this ROM(XXBMD6) Before installing KyleOpen (for India) ?
Will I get network problems??
Thanks In Advance!
You should be fine. The main reason they said that in the OP was to make sure you are on the right firmware and baseband, but if you search that thread with the word: India, it has some posts saying that as long as you have the newer (4.0.4+) radio/baseband/modems then it'll work for you. Worst case scenario - just find the firmware for your original carrier and flash via Odin.

Hi XDA, i want to try Google max kernel 4.1.2.But the thing is that i am not sure whether this wil work for me. The googy kernel dev doesn't mentioned about flashing instructions. kindly pls help me with ur instructions. So i wish to give my specifications. Also its a dual boot kernel. But i have only stock rom. I don't wish to have cm rom. So does this kernel suits for single kernel also? Here it goes.

No you won't lose any phone data...
Just download correct version of kernel which is for 4.1.2 because there is another version in development for 4.3 android
Just download zip. Place it your phone
Go to recovery and flash it from where you have saved it..
That's it
Now reboot...
Nothing else required...
