Hello, I have a Galaxy S4 developers edition stock with version 4.2.2. I have never rooted it or changed the ROM in any way. Yet for some reason I have yet to get a single update from Verizon or Samsung ... Everything I am reading says I should have 4.4 by now .. At least 4.3... Is there a reason why I am not getting update.
Thank you.

Developers Editions don't receive updates. I guess they assume that anyone with a Dev Edition will ROM it.
Hello silver7x,
I noticed your post saying that you have a Dev s4. As you may know there are people trying to unlock the bootloader for the retail version of the s4. Would you be willing to take 5-10 minutes to help them out by sending a copy of your aboot to: Surge1223 ?
We would all greatly appreciate your help. If you need help figuring out how to do so, check out his thread for unlocking the bootloader. Or send him a PM labeled "S4 Dev aboot"
Thank you!

I would be more than happy to help in any way I can. I will look at the process tonight and see how to extract the information and send it.
With regards to my original question, How does one with a developers edition phone get a stock copy of Samsung's 4.4.2
Thanks

There's no Stock KitKat ROM for the Verizon phone at the moment. You'll have to wait until VZ releases 4.4.2.

If no one else answers I'll give it a try but I won't be home until later tonight and might not have much time. And will likely need hand-holding on how to do what you need, LOL!
ETA: Oh and I have a custom ROM & Kernel on mine if that matters.
Thanks for responding being on a custom rom is fine but I need stock kernel so if you could flash it that would be great!

I have a boot.img with the stock kernel in it. The Darkslide ROM has some issues with WiFi and other things when I run the stock kernel. Would the boot.img help?
if it's directly from the dev edition phone then definitely could you please upload it if it is?

Also note it says to bump your question once in 24 hours. There are not that many developer editions out there that someone is sitting here waiting for your request.
I have a stock Dev edition ATM (no root or recovery) but can access ADB if I can help. I am also interested in finding out how to get a stock recovery package for the Development Edition.

Update
Update: I have some good news and some bad news (mostly bad)
Good News: I have unlocked the bootloader
Bad News: the unlock is not permanent(?) but I might be able to fix that, just need some the run the following comands in terminal emulator and give me the files that were made:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 of=/sdcard/boot.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p23 of=/sdcard/recovery.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p32 of=/sdcard/devlog.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p29 of=/sdcard/system.img
If anycone can run these (on stock w/o recovery that would be great!
I'm going to try to help. I have a stock DEV edition, non-rooted. It has been 3 years since I messed with ADB, so I will probably need some hand holding

You don't need a computer it's fairly simple just download terminal emulator from the play store and run the commands the output files will be on the root of the internal storage so if you could just upload those that would be great
Thanks. I get permission denied trying to copy /dev/block/mmcblk0p22

follow the instructions on this thread and help the op author out ASAP PLEASE!!
EDIT* darn it, i forgot yours is a dev phone. so root may be different..... sorry. i was just so excited about this news.
Yep. That's for an ME7. My dev phone is OYUAMDK. As far as I understand, the MDK root methods wipe the recovery or the kernel, depending on the method. I think the OP is asking for both to be intact so he can get copies. I'm not rooting until I hear from the OP.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP THIS MAN, LET'S GET THIS BABY UNLOCKEd!!
So now that we have the 4.3 update on Verizon (The first to get it before any Carrier) Now what are the next steps here. Would there be a root available for this.
I like the new features, that the 4.3 gave, esp the KNOX, but would really like to get the phone rooted once more.
Keep up the amazing work guys.

it's been out for 12 hours.....hold on for 5 minutes and be patient.
Was just asking, i know its been out for just 12 hours, amazingly for the first time verizon did it first, so i guess no one really was expecting that bomb shell.
And I again say this for all the guys who find a way to root it.. amazing work guys.. keep it up
Root was available 10 minutes ago but VZW and Samsung patched it while you were making tea. Sorry bud, you missed it.

If root was a priority then upgrading was not the best Choice. The note 3 has 4.3 and also has root. I'm sure a similar method may be found but it may be not be the same sort of free permissions that root users are a custom to. Locked and stocked is the future.

I do believe this is the most classic post I've ever read. A noob ask for a root method 12 hours after release, then tells someone else on a message board to chill. Bwahahahahaha.
Don't look for a root method after a fresh release for about a month. If it comes sooner, then jump for joy. It very well could be later....or never at all.
For me, the Radio is the first thing I look for. Root I have. The new radio I don't. Thankfully it was posted early this morning.
If you'd like to help us out in getting this update rootable please post in thread below. We need someone to pull the TAR file from either Samsung Kies or the Verizon Installer once it is available.

Some people were a bit hasty.
They took the update before this method, now they must wait for a full root method.
Not me, I'm still on MI1.
Now considering the update..... Hmmmm.

Can't you just Odin back to MI1, wiping the phone and then do the 4.3 update file to get rooted?

ps- why are all u guys updating :/ the chances of ever getting root again on this rom are slim to none unless the bootloader isnt incremented which ishighly unlikely.. look at the s5 13k bounty for just root and its still not out yet..

Yeah I wasn't going to try, I run ARLiberator and I didnt pay $30 for nothing. Seriously considering the highly advocated leak though now that I have actually taken the time to read through the PSA and thread comments.
I'm kind of a noob though, I don't understand a lot of the intricacies of programming. Am I correct in assuming that if they are able to build a custom kernel with this unprotected firmware, it will be possible to install non TW roms Like CM11 one day?

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this the general forums for the Verizon Note 3? Some might just like being informed about the stock update in a thread without it being bombarded with beans rom posts. We do have the posts about this already I believe.

Hey all...been a long time since I've been back in the forums but have been relatively pleased with this Nebula rom on my Note. However, now that I'm 2 Android versions behind I wanted to check in to see if I have any options to upgrade to a newer/better ROM like Cyanogenmod. Since I'm running MJ9 I just don't know if I'm just plain stuck unless I wanted to go to the official Verizon Kitkat update.
Thanks all,

I just saw the same internal reports for the S5 and it hit our demos as well.
You can bet it will be essentially unrootable, so if that matters to you don't take the OTA.
I'm more worried about the bugs and lg making it suck.
Well we just need to make sure that we wait until someone makes a flashable zip then we just flash su

Downloading the OTA and saving it is good, installing it, not so much. Downloaded source, will see what I can do with it this weekend as far as building a rom from it. Once the OTA drops we can separate the partitions for flashable zips and all that.
It would be truly fun to build stock from source. I've never actually tried that, and I don't know if the source provided will actually be enough to do it

You can't root if you have zv6 iirc. So you have to flash zv4then root your phone. After that you can unlock the boot loader with bump. Last if you want install zv6 here or any rom that is out for LS900.
