Anyone know what the deal is with Sony UK. They seem to with the Xperia S ignore so many updates. It was the same with gingerbread and now uk users are still on .453 despite there being two minor updates since then. Looks like they've almost given up on the S despite it being their best selling phone.
This never happened with the x10 and I don't think it did with 2011 line up.
What's the deal with them one wonders

The SI numbers list is quite a mish-mash of versions: http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/223759
I would have thought a vendor would want to get fixes out to customers as soon as practicable so customers feel good about their products and support aren't having to keep on dealing with the same reported issues. I can understand there might be a backlog in testing by carriers but when it's the generic version in a major market like the UK I can't see what is special / different that would cause them to do this.

Perhaps the carriers have tested the latest firmware and found that the deleted emails bug, proximity sensor bug, quick launch bug, text message bug, "insert name here" bug are all still present, and so wonder what the point is.

Even nothing for generic kits. I wonder if all these bugs are present in the Xperia t build. I tested one out yesterday and it seemed snappier than my s. That could be because that's a stock phone with no user apps or data on there. I don't believe it's the processing power because in reality there's little difference between 1.5 ghz s3 and s4.
Such a shame Sony have failed to deliver a good ics build. Software development is really their Achilles heel. They must improve drastically here or 2013 will just be another year of missed opportunities.
I should add that I eat wasn't that impressed with the T. The S is in my opinion a better looking phone. You shouldn't underestimate the touch of class that is the transparent strip even if it wasn't very functional by default.
I also felt the S's display was better. The colors seem to stand out more on the S. The T has the marginally better processor and camera but the S is better in other respects. The S with an s4, ics out of box and a bigger battery would have definitely beat the one x and given the GS3 a run for its money.

I had arc s for a while. They updated to ICS 4.0.3, but after a while everyone had 4.0.4 but UK was never updated to it. I asked many support reps but everyone seemed to ignore the question. I even opened a thread on Sony talk forum.

I wondered this in the past. BUT there is some good news - you're likely not missing anything. :victory:Those tiny updates are usually region dependant, they have tiny modifications that are relative to a specific country or few countries, so it's not relevant to us if it's not released to us, in this case. Plus, as a tiny point, such a small update can only have the smallest of changes. :good:
I had data cut out problem with the initial ICS rom. I was so sick putting with it (Sony support was useless), I had to manually update to .45 rom to fix this problem. I'm not happy and my next phone won't be from Sony for sure.
I do wonder what's going with the generic UK versions...
Both myself and my gf have Xperia S's and I'm on Three UK whilst she's unbranded (generic UK), so I can compare directly the differences in update speeds.
I get all of the updates quicker than she does (despite carrier testing), and I'm on .45 now whereas she's on .453 and I got my first ICS build a good few weeks before she did.
Perhaps Sony have a deal with the carriers that says that carriers can release the updates first?

It might have something to do with the poor sales performance off contract. Maybe Sony UK is saving its bandwidth for the branded kits lol. Strange policy to follow as if you bought the phone in the first few weeks of its release, it probably was generic because by then the networks hadn't put their stuff on it.
All in all I'm unlikely to buy Sony next year as I'm really beginning to get really fed up of this poor poor crap. I'm actually hoping they skip JB because I fear that's the only way they''ll be current with their 2013 line up next march

Sense 5 will be available on older models. HTC has confirmed the information via his Facebook page. For the moment no "roadmap" official has been issued, only a small non-exhaustive list is available.
"HTC will be offering upgrades to some of its existing devices in the coming months, including variants of HTC One X One X +, One S & HTC Butterfly. However, note that certain features of the new HTC One will not be available in software updates for hardware compatibility reasons ".
The Droid DNA isn't on this list of 4 smartphones, but if the Butterfly will get the update, so it wouldn't be for technical reasons if the Droid DNA wouldn't get it...Normally it will also...

The word variants kind of confirms the DNA. I don't understand why such doubt? Don't say because of the thunderbolt or this phone or that phone didn't get anything. All we can do is wait. We bought the phone for what it had, not for what it might get. I'm happy either way.

I thank that's a Galaxy S IV exclusive.
This is the reason I left HTC to begin with... The promising of updates that never happen... Verizon shares some of the blame for the delays, but ultimately it's up to HTC to deliver quality builds to the carriers.. While on the Incredible 2 and waiting for ICS, HTC delivered a build to Verizon that was so buggy that even Verizon said "no".... But now I'm back and hope this doesn't happen again..

Precisely why I look at the possible dev community rather than what I think the carrier will offer down the road when I purchase a phone. I bought the DNA in full confidence that there would be many great devs supporting it, and I was right. Really enjoying my phone so far.
As for my friend, he bought an LG Spectrum even though he knew I was pretty knowledgeable and could have given him better suggestions. Now he's begging me to root it for him... but for what, there's no development for it at all lol.
I personally bought the DNA over butterfly because of the bigger dev community. Ill never understand why be at xda and wait on carriers.

you might want to go check over on android forums. There is plenty of development. In fact, AOKP and CM 10.1 both are nearing official support thanks to the devs over there. The Spec was a great phone while I had it.

I looked quite a few times and even by the time I bought my DNA, they still didn't have anything concrete. Just took a look too and this all looks like recent dev for it. Agreed though, the specs did look good, but LG messed it up pretty bad.
Either way, good to see that it's finally getting some attention and I can offer him some relief when we see each other in a few months - hopefully they have a stable CM10.1 by then

LG devices are notorious for their poor development. They're usually budget phones (with the Optimus line being an obvious exception).
HTC confirmed via their Facebook page to my question about ICS on the Thunderbolt that it was "coming soon" back in June of 2012. When did it arrive? December? Better late than never I suppose but I wouldn't hold your breath...
So by now the rumored DNA+ is gonna be a reality, the specs are mainly the rumors at this point. My question is, do you think the Verizon version of the One or probably DNA+, is gonna be released sometime in June? At this point I believe enough people know about the One that if Verizon borked their version no one would buy it, so I think their version is gonna be the One or maybe have a slight spec bump. Do you believe itll be released sometime this summer or at the end? I can hold off on getting a DNA if the + comes out in the next couple monthes, not if its more than 2 monthes out.
All of these are rumors so no one entirely knows what big red will do. If your patient I would wait. Expecially if you want to unlock root and s off because right now the only way to do that on the dna is jtag. So if you can't go without root and custom roms then I would wait unless you feel like jtag.

I would be really surprised if verizon did not get the one.
So are there any pics yet of this so-called DNA+? I would think if it were to be released anytime soon there would be some sort of leaked pics, specs, or something by now. From what I've gathered just from brief looks at the ONE the phone isn't even cdma capable so I would assume if a version did come to vzw it would be completely different than any version of the ONE available now.

And, of course, add a minimum of two months for that Butterfly 2 to meander its way onto VZW.
Personally, I don't see much point in waiting 4-6 months for a phone whose only substantial differentiating features will be a 15% faster SoC and Sense 5, unless you still enjoy your current device.

I read that Verizon will be the only carrier not to sell the Nexus 5. Reasoning? Likely it is highly integrated with Google apps such as the forbidden Wallet. Google plans to end fragmentation with this backward compatible version but we all know how Verizon likes to be in complete control. Chances the Note II will see this carrier upgrade, slim to none?
Verizon likes to have full control over the devices which Google doesn't want in its Nexus program. Verizon also doesn't see the potential (Profit) in the Nexus which may not be too far off as it is mainly just us Android addicts that go crazy over it, most mainstream consumers are looking at the G2, Moto X, HTC One, and GS4 (All of which Verizon has on their network).
As for when we will get the update really relies on Samsung and if they want to make it available for the Note 2. The 4.3 update was in the air for a while and being that the GS5 will be announced early next year we may never see 4.4 officially. If we do we may be in luck for once as Verizon and Samsung seemed to have synced up nicely with the 4.3 release and Verizon is actually one of the first carriers to push it out to their Galaxy devices (Note 2, GS3, GS4) but who knows.
I think the low memory requirements for Android and 4.4 were more for porting it to new devices such as watches and to support current low end models, not getting older forgotten about devices finally upgraded.

Samsung is slow? Are you insane? It's the carrier that is slow. Check your facts pal. Samsung usually gives at least a couple major updates but they are severely limited by Verizon. Especially when we are such an open phone. They take more time to fix the bootloader being unlocked as instructed by Verizon. Samsung is a fantastic company. The fact that the s3 is getting 4.3 is a good indicator of how the note 2 will be treated a little later down the line.

It still take Samsung months to release an update on the international versions. They are only semi quick on the very latest phones. There's no reason a billion dollar company should take that long when a group of developers from this site can port asop Roms by themselves in a matter of hours, albeit with some bugs but these people do this for fun and are way more efficient.
