[Guide] Make Xperia U ICS 4.0.4 Nearly Fast as Gingerbread - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

in This Guide i will show you have i've speeded up my Xperia U After ICS 4.0.4 Update
You'll won't Get the same speed you get with Gingerbread, But it's good to speed it up
1. Do NOT Use Live Wallpapers, it Uses RAM and CPU
2.Go to Settings>Developer Options and Check Force GPU Rendering ( your Phone might get Unstable with this), Then Scroll Down and Set "Background Process Limit" to "2" ( Don't Worry you'll still receive whatsapp, Viber, etc. Messages) (YOU'LL HAVE TO DO THIS EVERY BOOT)
3.Go back to Home and Go to Settings>Apps>"All" And Disable these:
Talk (Updated to Hangout)
Google+
Friend's Music
FBiX Music Likes
FBiX Calendar Sync
Facebook extension
Facebook | There's two apps with same name, disable both!
Email
Chrome
( Not all Apps Might be Slowing Down Things but this is what best suited for me)(The Most Important apps are: Chrome, Facebook,Google+ and Hangouts)(You Might not See Disable Option, Uninstall Updates First)
4.Install Only Necessary Apps ( Whatsapp, Viber, Skype, etc.) and Avoid installing apps that run in background or use alot of RAM & Use Stock apps, for Example if you Prefer VLC Player to Play Music, Delete it and Use the Stock Player
5.Disable all apps found in Performance assistant
6.Don't use alot of Widgets, Close apps when you don't need them, Restart your Phone from Time to Time
IMPORTANT THING: IF YOU UPGRADED TO ICS AND DIDN'T DO FACTORY RESET IT'S EXTREMELY SLOW, DO FACTORY RESET, HUGE DIFFERENCE!!
For me i have 33 Apps installed and Most Time the RAM is 100MB Free and Worst Won't be less than 60-70 MB Free

[Q] any harm in removing stock browser, and other apk's in TIB?

So i use dolphin HD as my main browser, and whenever it updates i have to set as default all over again.
Id rather just remove the stock browser, as i never use it anyway, but will this end up giving me problems?
In addition, there are other apps that i dont need, and would also like to remove, such as:
email - i use gmail, so i dont need it
car home
music – I use google music – so no need for the stock music app
news and weather – don’t use – don’t want it to update in the background
homescreen tips
setup wizard
tts service
google talk
cmstats
sound recorder
fota kill??
Fm radio
There are usually more – but im running CM – so less crap
i like the minimum installed, and if i can lose some of these i will. Im also worried some are affecting battery life.
Freeze them first, then use it normally for a couple of days, if nothing weird happens, then remove them.

sounds good. Will try it.
But from experience, has anyone had any problems uninstalling the apps i listed? especially the ones in bold.
I have had my stock browser removed for a while and have not run into any issues. I also use Dolphin as my main browser
I've removed about 80% of your list in the OP with no issues.
Shouldn't have any problem. The suggestion to freeze it first is a good idea. When you decide to remove an app, just move the apk from system/app to somewhere on your sd. Makes it a lot easier to put it back, should you decide to.

Xperia S battery tweaking

I am getting bad battery performance and I want to disable and even totaly uninstall few stock packages which I am sure I will not need any time.
So far what I have done.
Synchronize set to Manuall
Closing applications that I am not using
Disabled Live wallpaper
Set phone to GSM only (2G)
Uninstalled Mccafee
Disabled LTE via HTC Thunderbolt (not sure it worked or not but message showing it is disabled)
Disabled Google + and Exchange service
Removed all widgets
Disabled NFC, Bluetooth, Wifi, Data network etc.
Disabled keypress tones and keypress vibrations
Set brightness to 30%
Disabled Bravia Engine
What else I can do to improve battery life.
Few peoples also suggest to remove some programs such as bloadwares, foursquare, photo viewer, moving wallpaper, facebook integration, twitter integration, photo and movie integration etc.
I also noticed alot of other programs are also auto starting even when I close them such Google+, Maps, Search, Play store etc. I also don't need alot of other things such as LiveWire, NFC and other stcock packages.
Would be better if there is any Clean or Vanilla ROM for Xperia S available. Also suggest me best Task Manager and Battery tool I am currently using Go Power Master and Task Manager.
Note: Noticed that System is consuming more then 80% of battery (ICS Settings > Battery) is it normal?

if u want a custom rom that saves battery u can use cyanogenmod or aokp.. cyanogenmod is about fully functional but aokp is not,
there is a rom called ka sspeed it does save battery but not like the vanilla based formers..
i also suggest u use battery saving softwares like juice defender or what i prefer greenpower.. they work while the phone is asleep (or u are as greenpower has night mode) and disconnect all connections or connects them intervally..
there is a tweak that i personally havent tried yet called PIMP MY ROM.. the majority say its good but i cant give opinions here..
for me i use ka sspeed from krabappel with greenpower premium and it gives me good battery life.. like 20 hours on daily use but without 3g!

[Q] S3 I9300 is slow..

I am using stock ROM & JB 4.1.1 in my S3 GT I9300. But it sucks & working slow. Its taking 5 to 7 sec to open contacts & messages. When i use any app like i play game than after exit from app menu icons are also taking some seconds to come. Menu opening is also taking time.. all this sucks alot.Give any solution.
1) Factory reset
2) Root it and try custom rom
3) Sell it and get something else.

I'd suggest doing a factory reset also.
for contacts and texting, replace the stock apps (that indeed are a bit slow) by something else. I might suggest GO SMS pro for texting and exDialer for dialling and contacts. They are way faster (and on some points do sport more functionalities than the stock ones).
Now, for the redrawing of the desktop. The reason icons need to re-appear after you leave a game is that the phone did make more room for this game in memory by closing all the other apps, including the launcher. Therefore it needs to restart it totally when you quit the game. It take time.
Again, you may decide to go with an alternative launcher (I use Apex, but many others are available) in which you can control the staying in memory of the desktop or you might be able to force the TW launcher to stay in memory even if other apps are running. In anycase, doing that will be at the detriment of the game (or other memory hungry apps) performances (they will have less memory). Your decision!
Check free RAM
Go to Settings->Application Manager. Swipe left/right to get to the Running tab. Check if the amount of free RAM (at the bottom) is too low. If so find which apps are using most RAM and try killing them.

[Q] Freezing bloatware on stock ROM?

I have not explored this and am wondering if I did this, would I notice any performance increase? My tablet isn't sluggish by any means despite Sense being what it is.
Is this something worth looking into? And more importantly, if it is, what exactly is worth freezing on the Jetstream? OR how do I go about just deleting these apps without crashing my device? I usually rely on ROMs from Devs to do these things, but being rooted, we have the ability to delete and freeze the Apps, yea?
Apps I have in mind for freezing/deleting are:
Gameloft, ATT branded bloatware, HTC Likes, HTC Hub, Featured Apps, Kid Mode, Lets Golf, Need for Speed, HTC Watch (is a hog, for some reason), Snapbooth, Teeter, YPMobile, and zinio.
Thanks guys. Hopefully this helps others as well.
i just recently installed go launcher, trying to get the device running smoother. the launcher itself isn't quicker, but he does have some pros.
one of them is the task manager widget that shows you which apps are running in the background.
i found out that google+, htc people, and some other apps are starting spontaneously, without me ever using them.
so try installing a task manager widget, and follow your background processes
interesting. I don't use g+. I will just uninstall it.
How about freezing or removing sys apps?
i froze them using titanium. no issues caused so far..
about system apps - i'm running diablo v1.2 so alot was removed already..and according to the widget non of them pop up..

I noticed something similar. I use an app called Rom Toolbox. It displays all the processes that start up with system boot. Many such as facebook, google + and a host of other things, I do not use regularly. So i just disabled the auto-start of those services using ROM Toolbox and it doesn't autorun now. Don't know how effective it is, but when I do check the running apps section under manage applications in settings, I do not see the unnecessary apps running and the memory freed up is more as compared to prior disabling. However I haven't noticed much of a difference in my daily usage of the rom hence don't know how effective it is.
I also use Quick System Information Pro. It has a task clearer widget which I find extremely useful and effective. Whenever I feel that my tab is working a bit slow, I just press on the widget icon and it clears up in the range of 200-300 MB of ram thereby preventing slow down of the tab. It does work with non-Sense launchers as well such as Go Launcher HD.
Using Titanium I uninstalled a lot of the bloatware and froze Sense. Cleared the cache and dalvik using CMW, and things have been working fine up to now. Performance-wise, no lagging and everything seems to run fine. Only kept Google's stock apps like maps and stuff, even though I don't use them.
Also note that I backed up everything I uninstalled just in case, so everything's dandy. Oh, and I reverted back to the stock kernel a while back (still rooted, though).
Quick question, if I clear the cache manually or dalvik through Titanium, does it do the same thing CMW does? It should work the same way and only need a restart, right?

I Froze all the AT&T/HTC Bloatware, however I continue to have FREEZING problems with the YouTube (even after uninstalling the Upgrade).
My work around is to use the YouTube on the stock Browser.
Hope a Permanent FIX for the YouTube app comes sooner than later

[Q] ram managment

hi everyone
i've been using the d620r version for half a year now and there is a problem i see with the ram managment. the phone just can't keep a few tasks running at once. when i listen to music, or chat with chatheads (fb messenger) and open another app, for example maps, browser, or any game, the system simply closes the music and messenger apps running in the background. and i don't even want to mention the homescreen which reloads everytime i open the simplest app...
i am rooted, and this is what i've tried to do to solve my problems:
deleted lg the bloatware (like lg sync etc)
deleted google bloatware (google search, play games, play music, etc)
played around with auto memory manager (setting really low values so apps would not get killed)
tried to force ongoing notifications using the xposed module app settings
tweaked around with gl tools, to decrease graphics so apps would be lighter
decreased screen resolution using resolution changer pro (this helped but it made the phone and message apps to forceclose)
i even flashed another rom, the crystal PA 8 available here on xda.. this actually helped, there was much less closing, BUT the rom is too unstable and buggy for everyday use...
is there anything else i could do?
thanks a lot
I don't know about any other users but root takes something from performance, at least here (D618). What I suggest is: flash back stock, full wipe (KDZ), root but don't heavily use apps that require root, don't use a lot of xposed modules and etc. Hope it helps.

make swap in cache partition because its so dumb to have that much free memory
and thats why apps are being killed
thanks for your opinion. actually, this problem occured even before i rooted the phone. right now, i'm back to stock. i hoped that maybe i could expand my ram using rohesoft swap expander but our kernel is not supported and i couldn't find any custom ones...

kernel doesn't support swap
oooh i was sooo wrong... the cache swap file works perfectly, the phone is much much smoother now
if anyone is experiencing the same issue, just download ram expander, choose the swap file location to cache and enjoy
