[Q] Galaxy S4 I9505XXUEMK9 woes - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

*[Q] Galaxy S4 woes!
Hi. Will keep this as brief as I can but a long saga. Have Unlocked phone running 4.3. Rooted it and then tried to put Omega 4.4.2 on. Used Odin 3.09 to load the accompanying 4.4.2 Bootloader and Modem files. Ran the upgrade file from the Ext SD Card. Rebooted it and got the Omega spinning flash screen and got no further. Got into Recovery mode and then reflashed with my 4.3 backup file. Again success but stopped at the Samsung boot screen. Both times tried full wipe/clear cache etc and no good. Found an update available (could be 4.4.2) using Kies and started the download but it must have got interupted because I then got the dreaded "Firmware was interupted and use Kies to do emergency update) message. Kies won't do anything because on connecting the USB lead, I get the message "Samsung S4 is not able to initialise yet". Downloaded stock 4.3 file and tried to flash in Odin but get fail messages. Could be because have 4.4.2 bootloader and modem files on there. Would this stop the 4.3 backup loading?
Sent it away to a mobile phone repairers who reloaded the software (cost £69 and a week of my life) but on return booted to the home screen but got error after error i.e. phone didn't work (black screen with process errors) and no sound! As a by, this company want me to send it back at my expense for futher investigations but are renowned for charging you extra for problems they've caused i.e. no sound! Not a chance!*
Now with another repairer and hopefully should get it back tomorrow but may not be fixed. Any ideas on what my next step could be if not fixed? Isn't bricked because could still get into download mode but not recovery mode because as soon as it starts booting, you get this graphic of a phone, an exclamation mark and a computer with the firmware message.
At my wits end! Any ideas please?

Solved Stuck after boot logo I9300

I installed KIES>update KIES>put phone in download mode>plugged in the phone>let KIES findit>in KIES choose emergency Firmware (?) Kies downloaded and installed, Phone boots in new Android 4.1.2.
No root off course but so far everything works.

Wel, I have the same problem.
Samsung SIII International version. After installing a new rom (believe it was "jellybam-v6.1.0_i9300-STABLE.zip") but I am not sure, the phone boots only to the original logo and then the screen goes black. Nothing more.
I can get into recovery mode and download mode so I tried several recovery versions (CWM, TEAMWIN, latest ClockworModRecovery v 6.0.2.8.) and several ROM.
No mater what I install, I get the same results. Boot phone and it hangs after the standard Samsung logo.
I was able to find out "/sdcard" could not be mounted. All the recovery programs I used with the option "mount unmount" reporting the same "/sdcard could not be mount" error.
Formatting /sdcard all so won't work.
I am thinking installing a new kernel but I have some difficulties in finding witch one will work with my phone?
Any suggestions or help is really appreciated b/c I have no idea what to do next.
Samsung I9300
Win 7
Latest USB drivers from Samsung installed
No Kies installed.
Odin3_v3.07 installed.
Using Odin I flashed:
CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.tar
recovery-cwmtouch-6.0.2.8-GTI9300.tar
recovery-stock-dlj4-GTI9300.tar
recovery-stock-blg9-GTI9300.tar
And a few more.
Due to being unable to acces the phone installing a zip file is not possible. Using "installing a rom from zip, or sdcard" from recovery is not possible.
I tried installing a file using sideload but was not succesfull. I can get the phone in receiving a file from sideload but was unable to send a file from the PC.
Thanx in advance
Thanks to all reading and thinking about a solution :good:
I had a hard time finding relative posts/reply's etc mentioning a SIII stuck after the standard Samsung etc. message and the screen goes black.
Is this "glitch" I had happened before?
Using KIES to fix the problem? Never crossed my mind. Why? I rooted the phone, flashed ROM etc. Flash counter at least at 12 so why should an official program from Samsung is any help?
Software Updates won't work on the phone: You have a modified phone. no updates available is the message I get trying updating through standard channels.
I guess KIES and Samsung support really developed in an actual usable program. Coming from a SGSI, KIES was not a program I could use. Most of the time it didn't even see my SI.:good:
Well, everything seems to be working. I won't be rooting my phone for the moment, but TB has all my backups so not rooting at all is no option.

[Q] Unrooted, stock and soft-bricked(??) after official OTA update - is there a way?

hi,
For a day now I've been trying to figure out the way around my problem and I couldn't. But I'm just a beginner, I hope you guys can help.
short version: After official OTA update my stock, unrooted GT-I9300 boots only until one of the logo screens. I want badly to keep apps data, especially sms'es and voice recorder files. Downloading the update via KIES in download mode repeats update procedure but then again the boot ends on samsung logo screen (the one with just 'samsung' letters if that matters).
longer version: I've been using stock ROM forever and lived happily with stock ROM on Android 4.3 (except for laaags) Yesterday I went to check if an update is available - it was, so I downloaded it. It was all fine, I got to 'optimizing app 222/222' screen then the phone rebooted. It went through GT-I9300 screen, carrier screen, and in the end it stuck on pulsing LED and letters on the screen: 'SAMSUNG'. And now it happens each time I turn the phone on. I can still go to download mode easily and to recovery mode too.
I've reinstalled the update used KIES (2.6.3.14044_14) with the phone in download mode but that gets me to the same place (optimizes all 222 aps, reboots and hangs up at the same sceen).
Is there a way to have this fixed while keeping apps data?
this thread gives me hope there is, since there are 'NO WIPE' files, but sadly this one is only for US Verizon, not international..
(as a newb I can't post links but it's there) - s3forums site, thread galaxy-s3-hacking-mods/3292-guide-unbrick-restore-your-galaxy-s3-back-100-stock
my device:
Samsung Galaxy S III GT-I9300 (International), carrier - Orange Poland
Android 4.3, no root, Stock ROM
There is a good chance you only need to factory reset the phone but in that you will lose your data. You can try odin and flashing the latest stock rom for your phone (orange poland). Do not flash any other carrier, do not do anything with a pit file. Do not attempt to go back to the old firmware unless it was an earlier 4.3.
Get your carrier update from samsung updates and a copy of odin.
Put your phone in download mode via vol down +home +power and then connect it to the pc on a usb cable
Open odin, click "ap" or "pda" (same button, different versions) and select your poland orange 4.3 rom and then click "start".
Wait until the phone fully reboots and odin says "pass". Disconnect the phone.
This shouldn't wipe data but if this doesn't work then you have to bite the bullet and factory reset.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
thanks. I tried various firmwares - branded and non-branded, current and a previous one (but also 4.3) - but I still got locked on the same screen. After factory reset it stayed on the very same screen for a minute, but then it came back to life.

[Q] Bricked my first phone :( Samsung SGH-T989D

I am fairly certain that my phone can't be recovered, but I want to be sure so I'm asking for a bit of help here.
Phone is a Samsung S2X SGH-T989D, on Koodo (a child of Telus). It was running Android 4.1.2. Unfortunately I can't get into the phone for more details.
I tried to flash a custom recovery using Odin v1.85. It was a CWM recovery md5 file, but I don't have the version number (it wasn't listed in the guide I was using - http://www.theandroidsoul.com/easil...gh-t989-installs-busybox-superuser-app-52203/)
The process seemed to complete normally, but when I restarted the phone I ended up with a "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Loading Kies (Odin not running) it detect when the phone is connected and tries to read the details from the phone, but after several minutes it complains of a connection error and tells me to reboot the device. This is all I can get Kies to do.
Odin detects the phone normally. I try to restore the stock Telus/Koodo firmware (T989DTLUMC4_T989OYBMC4_T989DTLUMC4_HOME.tar.md5) using Odin v3 or Odin v1.85 and Odin goes through all the steps successfully. After all is done I restart the phone and get the same error message.
"adb.exe devices" at a Windows 7 command prompt does not list any devices.
So this is where I am... I have a physically mint condition Samsung S2X SGH-T989D phone that I cannot get to boot past this error screen.
Is there anything else I can try?
FIXED!
Yay!
I solved my problem... Using Odin3 v1.85 I tried to flash the phone one more time. The only difference is that I left the Auto Reboot checkbox selected. The process went through like every other time except at the end the phone restarted. IT CAME UP LIKE NOTHING WAS WRONG!
So, I didn't lose any data and my phone is working fine now.
Makes me VERY happy. There are TOO MANY PHONES to choose from these days. My head was spinning trying to decide on a replacement phone.
Hope this helps someone in the future!

Help me save my S4 i545

So I have a S4 i9545 for Verizon. It was on 4.2.2 rooted and I upgraded using Fireflash with I545_OC1_Stock_DeOdexed_ROMwNK4_BL.zip. Everything seemed fine so I was using Titanium back up to remove the bloatware and then my battery died. When I charged it and booted up it got to the Verizon screen and hung there. I reset and tried several more times. I tried to use odin and flash a stock ROM SCH-I545_VZW_1_20140330160240_yni63xq6zh and I also tried one more. Odin gave a an error and failed. I then tried going into the boot loder and flash the I545_OC1_Stock_DeOdexed_ROMwNK4_BL.zip. Not sure if this was foolish or not. When I booted up I got to a black screen and there was a voice talking, maybe some sort of training, but I couldn't do anything.
If anyone can point me in the right direction on how to unbrick my S4 I would appreciate it. I know I screwed up.
Right now when I turn on the phone it says firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again. I tried connected to my computer and opening kies but it doesn't find it.
Try disconnecting your phone, completely closing Kies, then re-launching it with your phone still disconnected. Then click Tools > Firmware Upgrade and Initialization then follow the prompts

Update Failed - Smart Switch can't connect

From the beginning:
SCH-I545
Used Samsung Smart Switch to update. Seemed to go good, rebooted to the Verizon screen and froze. Battery pulls didn't do anything different. (Notes: Lollipop android with animated antane, charging animations were working. beyond that I don't know what build I was on)-I have to assume I'm on OF1.
Next I try to flash an unbrick {http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/how-to-update-to-i545of1-5-0-1-keeproot-t3182544}
That failed in Odin (wasn't smart enough to copy the Log)
Now: I am stuck with Odin mode "Software Update Failed" telling me to connect to Verizon software to fix. Smart Switch can't connect. But Odin can. Cannot boot into recovery, takes me the the Odin Mode.
So fingers crossed someone can link me to a stock flash?
I'm not looking to root this phone, but if that's easier than going to stock lollipop then I'll take it.
reading up on this thread since it fixed his problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/help/unbrick-taking-oc1-t3122230
Update:
Odin flashed a few of1 unbricks. Most failed, one passed. But black screens after Samsung logo.
Need an Odin flash for of1 and oc1
When I'm home I'll update with the links to the unbrick that worked but didn't work.
