USB connection between Eris and PC - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just rooted my Android 2.1 HTC Eris phone, and flashed an Android 2.3.7 ROM found on this site. The phone seems to work well. But HTC-sync connected by USB cable is not recognizing the phone's SD card.
I'm wondering if this is a limitation of the rooting, or a known problem with the new ROM, or if I've done something silly. In any case, is there a solution that a newbie will understand?
Thanks.

If it's not sense ROM, HTC sync will not work.

[Q] PDANet tethering problem

I did a quick search here but could not find any answer.
I am running rooted Android 2.2 on my Fascinate. PDANet works just fine every time I start it. But after a few minutes the "USB connected" message would pop up and prompts if I want to connect the phone as mass storage. I already checked the USB Debugging option and tried all three USB connection setting options (mass storage, media player, ask when connected) but the problem still remains. To prove it's not a PDANet related problem, I also tried EasyTethering and got the same issue.
Has anybody here experienced the same problem with tethering? I used wireless tether before but the connection keeps dropping. So I really want to be able to tether through USB. Thanks in advance.
Forgot to mention that my computer is a MacBook Pro.
It is a Mac issue. I have a MacBook pro and I have the same issue. It doesn't do this when I am connected and tethered to a PC. Anybody have a Mac solution for this?

I had suspected Mac might have been the culprit. Thank you for your response, otherwise I would have flashed back to 2.1 by now.
Do you think running parallel desktop on Mac and tethering through the virtual Windows is going to help? I know the hardware is still Mac. Unfortunately that Macbook is the only machine that I need to tether.

Yes, I think running windows would probably solve the issue although I'm not sure. It's in theory. I think the Mac OS is the issue. If you try it let me know the results please. I haven't done it because I would have to format my Mac partition and that means that I would have to backup my Mac and that means getting an external HD. Know what I mean?

Parallel desktop runs Windows on top of the Mac OS. So it shouldn't cause this much disturbing, although it would be less likely to help with this tethering issue compared to bootcamp --- I will update this thread after I try. Thanks again.

Actually, what I was talking about was bootcamp. Sorry, I misunderstood. I think you're right, I don't think the parallel would work. Either way let me know. Thanks.

How to enable Internet sharing on AT&T HTC Titan

Hi bros,
I have my Titan unlocked from AT&T. I travelled to Mozambique, and it worked with this Movitel network. But when I try to use Internet sharing, it's required me connect to At&t website, but dont have any further support.
Is there any way to enable this feature on my phone? I need it :-(
Thanks in advance.

Well you could always search...there is an app that is for tethering and I used it at one point to get around the fact that stock froyo didn't have wifi tether. There are many ways to do it. You can use blue tooth or wifi and even a USB. So in reality you just need an app PDA net can do it via USB or BT AND I know there are ones that do Wi-Fi and if you Google it they should show up ( search appbrain.com and read reviews )

You do know this is a WP7 device, why do you keep mentioning android related stuff, CM9 CM7, Root, all android Froyo on the titan even more
I have an At&t Titan too and I live in İstanbul, Turkey. My carrier is Vodafone also and can use internet sharing. For this all you need a 2gb micro SD card and a card reader and a Y cable ( too easy yo prepare or you can get it from a store on the net ). There are many turtorials in the XDA , just prepare a GOLD card and put the 2.01 or 2,05 europe firmware in the gold card and rename it as ETERIMG.nbh , follow the steps for Y cable flashing and you will have a debranded HTC Titan witj all functions available.
Ps: sorry for my English , I am a just 6 months student

Found the solution
Hi,
I think I have found the solution to this issue (a lill time consuming though).. It wasn't working for me and after doing the following I am able to do the internet sharing on my unlocked AT&T HTC Titan...
First you need to reset your phone to factory settings by doing the following (beware that all your personal data, applications and settings will be gone so better sync your phone with your PC first.. ):
Go into settings->about->reset your phone (you might need to scroll to the bottom). It confirms twice.. do that to reset your phone
After the phone is back on, try setting it up as your would do to a new device.
*** HTC Connection Wizard or Setup(whatever is that app called) seems to be the culprit so DO NOT install that app ever if you want the tethering to work.. It seems it resets some registereis as soon as it is switched on which blocks the tethering there after**
You might want to use 'reinstaller' app from the market place which will help you get all your previously installed apps by connecting to the Windows Live account and going through the list of apps you ever installed using that Windows live account. This process is the most tedious one but still better then nothing..
Once all this is done, connect your phone back to your PC and sync back in all the content that you lost from your cell while resetting.
Hope this helps.
I will give it a try today. Will let you know if it works.

better not use internetsharing because wp7.5 mango has trouble with this option...if u only 1 time activate it your wlan - mobile data connection will not work anymore correct....
with tango update this issue will be fixed!...
why nokia dont have this option till now? they wait till tango and than this option will be anvailable....or u become a phone with tango on board and u have this feature...

So, does it work ???
So we're saying the solution to getting internet sharing working on AT&T is just to wipe the phone? Seems like someone would have stumbled into that at some point by now. Would be great if its true. Has anyone else tried this yet?
Well did not work for me at all. I am using titan 2. that may be case :-(

near brick experience

BB Wifi only tablet. used htc unlock (didn't know better at the time). downgraded to GB. Upgraded to HC. Unfortunately chose FlyHoney (no USB support). tried to upgrade to ICS. Bricked, killed battery. Manually charging battery, was able to restore to FlyHoney. S is now "on". Would like step-by-step directions to get off of FlyHoney once battery is charged. ANYTHING ELSE will do. Am a noob and don't know how to do anything w/out use of ADB. Please help, I just want my tablet back...very attached. Lesson learned.

Pc doesn't detect my fascinate

Hello I just got a Samsung fascinate from a friend of mine... I went to go root it but my pc doesn't even recognize it. Doesn't even know it's plugged in. It charges but doesn't let me see it in adb, connect as mass storage and yes I have Samsung usb drivers installed and I have kies. Nothing has worked. Can anyone help me with this ish problem or tell me how to root it without my pc? Thanks

Try different ports and cables, you might need to find an oem usb cable if you can't find one that works

I have at least 3 oem cables and when I used a black berry one I ay least got my pc to say unrecognized usb device but after I unplugged it I never saw that message again

That's odd. Do you have any other PCs you could try? Maybe ones with different operating systems? Try uninstalling and re-installing the Samsung drivers and use an older version of Odin. I'm not sure what else to say other than maybe the usb connector is damaged somehow on the phone itself

I didn't install kies until after I found the drivers not working but I'll look for older drivers and uninstall kies. Also sometime this week I'm going to run ubuntu on my old hp tower and see if it prevails

Maybe you should try cleaning the usb port on the phone with canned air. This fixed my dad's Fascinate when nothing else would.

I'm gonna ask the obvious question here: Are you plugging your phone directly into a USB port i.e. not through a hub? Preferably one in the back of the motherboard. Highly suggest that it be one that was originally meant for your keyboard/mouse. On my motherboard, I find that cell phones work best for adb/fastboot when plugged into a "pink" USB port as opposed to a blue USB3.0 or normal USB2.0
EDIT: Oh, you're on a laptop. I got nothin' then, sorry mate. I'm going to leave my post up just in case some one else wanders in here.

Not fastboot as in the command line interface.
Fast Boot under Power Management inside Android OS--it basically puts the phone into superdeep hibernate mode instead of turning it off when you push the Power Off button.
Oh okay he did say fastboot as in the command interface.

Most likely the usb3 drivers. I think there are some Intel drivers posted somewhere that will work.
