I just got a replacement phone today that came with the att 2.2 installed. is there no possible way to root the phone with this already installed? im doomed if thats the case.

I know. I didn't even think about it. I would have rather had my broken phone than a new one that can't be rooted... total crap. I hope someone figures this out soon. Really steals the cool right out of Android with all at&t restrictions and htc giving us the shaft with a patched hboot. Devs please figure this out if its even possible...

Sent from my HTC Aria using XDA Premium App
There are rumours of a device that when attached to your phone (the innards?) can bypass the bad hboot and let one root. plus it can allow the yet unacheived s-off or nand lock off which completely opens the phone (you can alter the currently protected system read/ write while the phone is running)

Is it possible to go back to 2.1 after update to 2.2
Has anyone tried to go back to 2.1 with Odin after official AT&T upgrade to 2.2.
One way or another I WILL get this AT$ T garbage off this phone.
OR has anyone tried to go to another custom ROM straight from AT$T 2.2,
Thanks In Advance.

Although you can run the original 2.1 RUU and get the old ROM version installed, this process does not change and overwrite the HBOOT loader. The HBOOT loader 1.02 was installed with the AT&T 2.2 update and this is what is preventing the previous root exploit to work on the Aria that has the AT&T 2.2 update installed.
The only chance is that the XTC Clip hardware device will be able to turn the Aria security flag (S-OFF) off and then the phone can be rooted and custom ROMs flashed.

Turn the phone off and then hold the volume down button while pressing the power button. The phone will boot into the boot loader. Your hboot version will be displayed with other information on this screen.
HBOOT loader 1.02, oh well i guess i put this phone on ebay and move on to something else. I only paid $39 for this phone so i should make out good. It was almost new. Or i might just wait a bit to see what solutions come around. I wonder if some local cell shop cant s-off it for me.

I see that the site sells them (preconverted sd's) as well as the gold card device so i figured i might as well ask

Gold cards turns security off (S-OFF) for htc phones. Which allows access to NAND memory without having to use clockwork recovery to flash to NAND.

Its called "Visionary plus"
I wanna know if it works and if I still have todo adb commands via pc or just terminal app
Any feed back is welcome

It works as you need VISIONary+ to obtain TempROOT. So after that by running WPX script the WP is disabled for emmc. So you can push eng_hboot and turn S=OFF to gain PermROOT.
Make sure your on Stock2.2.1Sense as GB2.3.4Sense has issues as you can't use rage exploit any more, so look in to Gingerleak.

The steps are very easy to follow.
If you have a question, just keep reading the posts.
Someone's already asked and someone's already answered.
BUT if you can't find an answer. Msg me I'd more than happy to help.
Its easy. Just read the instructions and take you time. Lots of pros with a rooted phone....titanium backup, faster, newer roms, etc.....better battery life is one thing. I use faux's AOSP 1.2.8 and its silky smooth.
Rooted/OC'd/1.2.8

That depends on person to person. I myself can't use a device without radio security disabled. As S=off does have its advantages but even in awake of all the BS that I discovered regarding our Glacier after spending close to 1K on it I would still root it. As I did few times and ill do it again as no risk no game.

Well you could always search...there is an app that is for tethering and I used it at one point to get around the fact that stock froyo didn't have wifi tether. There are many ways to do it. You can use blue tooth or wifi and even a USB. So in reality you just need an app PDA net can do it via USB or BT AND I know there are ones that do Wi-Fi and if you Google it they should show up ( search appbrain.com and read reviews )

You do know this is a WP7 device, why do you keep mentioning android related stuff, CM9 CM7, Root, all android Froyo on the titan even more
I have an At&t Titan too and I live in İstanbul, Turkey. My carrier is Vodafone also and can use internet sharing. For this all you need a 2gb micro SD card and a card reader and a Y cable ( too easy yo prepare or you can get it from a store on the net ). There are many turtorials in the XDA , just prepare a GOLD card and put the 2.01 or 2,05 europe firmware in the gold card and rename it as ETERIMG.nbh , follow the steps for Y cable flashing and you will have a debranded HTC Titan witj all functions available.

Found the solution
Hi,
I think I have found the solution to this issue (a lill time consuming though).. It wasn't working for me and after doing the following I am able to do the internet sharing on my unlocked AT&T HTC Titan...
First you need to reset your phone to factory settings by doing the following (beware that all your personal data, applications and settings will be gone so better sync your phone with your PC first.. ):
Go into settings->about->reset your phone (you might need to scroll to the bottom). It confirms twice.. do that to reset your phone
After the phone is back on, try setting it up as your would do to a new device.
*** HTC Connection Wizard or Setup(whatever is that app called) seems to be the culprit so DO NOT install that app ever if you want the tethering to work.. It seems it resets some registereis as soon as it is switched on which blocks the tethering there after**
You might want to use 'reinstaller' app from the market place which will help you get all your previously installed apps by connecting to the Windows Live account and going through the list of apps you ever installed using that Windows live account. This process is the most tedious one but still better then nothing..
Once all this is done, connect your phone back to your PC and sync back in all the content that you lost from your cell while resetting.
Hope this helps.
I will give it a try today. Will let you know if it works.

So, I'm new to rooting, and, as such, after looking around the forums, I haven't found a similar thread (for the EVO 3D) about what ROM I should get. I've been looking through the CDMA forum at different ROMS, but I'm not sure which one to use. I won't be downgrading to 1.4 HBOOT, since I don't have a linux PC or the balls to do it, so I will be using the HTC Unlocker. All I want is to have the ability to use the Hotspot/tethering for free, because I'm not about to pay Sprint an extra 30 dollars/mo on top of my 65 dollar/mo plan right now.
So, if anyone has any help, I'd really appreciate it, because I have no idea what I'm doing.

My friend is saying there's more ways to root your phone other than the HTC Unlocker or the downgrade to 1.4 hboot. First off cause I don't have a linux PC, and my friend's friend said he used a program to root it on windows.

Again, the HTCDev method will give you root, but not s-off. If you want s-off, you have to downgrade your hboot. And it doesn't take a while, unless you consider a few minutes to be a while.

Yeah, but the thing is, I've been comparing HTC Unlock with downgrade and root, the only difference, besides true s-off, is you aren't able to have you own splash screen with HTC Unlock (Big whoop.) So, instead of taking the time (albeit a few minutes) To downgrade my phone and to root it that way. I think I'll wait for ICS to come out, then for the HTC Unlock to update for it, since I rather like the way ICS will look, also as I've said before, all I really want is the ability to use the Sprint Hotspot without paying an extra 30 bucks. That and with the HTC unlock, I can still put on a custom ROM, if I so desire, once they've been updated for ICS.
Ohhhh... Where should I start.... Well for one s-off means a lot, not just splash screens... Which I love my custom splash screen btw.... Makes my phone extremely unique...
If I was in your shoes.. I would downgrade the hboot... Root it.. and install the tethering app... And be done with it... Regardless of when the ota comes out for ics.. that means very very little...
Once the ota does come out, ROM devs will be all over it, and custom ics roms will be popping up all over the place...
"All I really want is tether...." No its not.... Trust me once you dive into the rooted EVO 3d and you realize how the phone is suppose to run, not how it runs stock you will be glad you went through the trouble with the downgrade...
Do what you do, as long as your happy and enjoying your 3vo that's what's matters...

Well, my biggest problem with trying to downgrade is I'm having trouble finding a way to downgrade with just windows, since I don't have Linux. Unless I just didn't read it right, I think someone said that the link I posted about downgrading with windows is outdated?
EDIT: Why would I install a tethering app when, supposedly, I can use the Sprint Hotspot, which is supposed to be better than the tethering app? Also, I have quite a few apps on my phone and I'm not sure I'll be able to use them all still if I root my phone.

Well, for me, there's several issues with that. 1) I'm using a laptop that isn't mine for the time being, and i don't want to go and make a new partition. 2) If I were to wait till the parts for my new desktop to come in, I'd have to wait till the end of March anyways for a new processor to come out. 3) I've never even messed with Linux.
Hello!
I'm new to all this and I try to read and understand but the this stuff is way out of my league.
So I bought the phone last week, I'm talking about the HTC one 32gb and it came with android 4.1.2. Then the new update came out and I was excited and all to see what it has to offer. I updated and then problems or bugs per se started with the phone.
Before the volume out of the speakers was loud and clear whereas now is much lower and I get this popping sound after a notification or song, and it bothers me.
Before I was getting awesome battery life with my typical use and now it seems to drain without touching it.
When I charge the phone I wait until it's a 100% then unplug, check the battery setting and it's on 98% or lower
Those are so far the problems I've found, but enough to make me want to return the phone.
With this said, I was wondering if Icould go back to 4.1.2 and start there until a good update comes up. I'm new to all this and in the case that this can be done, could anybody help me out to go back? Like a "for dummies" guide or something would be awesome.
Thank you so much

I really don't understand why you would though, try a factory reset and start fresh on the 4.3 update before looking at running the ruu because it's gonna wipe your data anyways.

I'm looking to go from 4.3 (official firmware) to a GPe on my AT&T One.
The 4.1.2 RUU .exe is no longer on HTC's website (only 4.3).
Does anyone have the official HTC firmware RUU.exe for 4.1.2? If so, can I simply flash this, then get S-OFF via Revone/Moonshine/Toolkit to set up my phone for a GPe flash (that gets OTAs)?
Or if I'm on 4.3 am I stuck forever?

I've done factory resets and it's not helping. My phone is no longer reading sim cards and the "boom sound" is fairly low in volume so I thought I'd try to go back to an old version and see if it works
