I know. I didn't even think about it. I would have rather had my broken phone than a new one that can't be rooted... total crap. I hope someone figures this out soon. Really steals the cool right out of Android with all at&t restrictions and htc giving us the shaft with a patched hboot. Devs please figure this out if its even possible...

There are rumours of a device that when attached to your phone (the innards?) can bypass the bad hboot and let one root. plus it can allow the yet unacheived s-off or nand lock off which completely opens the phone (you can alter the currently protected system read/ write while the phone is running)

Is it possible to go back to 2.1 after update to 2.2
Has anyone tried to go back to 2.1 with Odin after official AT&T upgrade to 2.2.
One way or another I WILL get this AT$ T garbage off this phone.
OR has anyone tried to go to another custom ROM straight from AT$T 2.2,
Thanks In Advance.

Although you can run the original 2.1 RUU and get the old ROM version installed, this process does not change and overwrite the HBOOT loader. The HBOOT loader 1.02 was installed with the AT&T 2.2 update and this is what is preventing the previous root exploit to work on the Aria that has the AT&T 2.2 update installed.
The only chance is that the XTC Clip hardware device will be able to turn the Aria security flag (S-OFF) off and then the phone can be rooted and custom ROMs flashed.

Turn the phone off and then hold the volume down button while pressing the power button. The phone will boot into the boot loader. Your hboot version will be displayed with other information on this screen.
HBOOT loader 1.02, oh well i guess i put this phone on ebay and move on to something else. I only paid $39 for this phone so i should make out good. It was almost new. Or i might just wait a bit to see what solutions come around. I wonder if some local cell shop cant s-off it for me.

Gold cards turns security off (S-OFF) for htc phones. Which allows access to NAND memory without having to use clockwork recovery to flash to NAND.

Is it possible to run another android rom from the sd card and dualbooting so you could basically try out roms?
The hd2 is capable of this through bootloaders like magldr or clk. What are our chances of doing this?

When a computer does this some special software is needed so it can recognize the different bootloaders of each, so our phone would need the same thing .... i remember sombionix tried this like more than a year ago but abandoned the project because of the impossible issues, i can also imagine it being memory intensive

I just came to vibrant from HD2 and according to what i know, hd2 is able to dual boot because the bootloader was written from scratch by developer Cotulla. HD2 has a large developers base due to which hd2 was finally able to run andriod perfectly. It might be possible for samsung vibrant to dual boot, but since samsung hasnt provided source code for the bootloader (and probably wont), the only option will be to start from scratch which will require a lot of work. So if developers dont find any other ways to dual boot other than making a new bootloader, it might be really difficult to do that.
So your saying we need Cotulla to buy a vibrant?
Someone want to ship one to his doorstep as a gift and request a bootloader?

To get S-Off, has anyone tried rolling back to the old RUU (Prerelease) and using HTC Dev? It probably won't work, but it might be worth a shot...
htc dev wont work, they arent going to give an unlock key,it doesnt matter what firmware we are running.
from what i can gather, zergRush works,we need to be able to disable emmc write protect so that a new hboot can be written. im assuming the usual exploits for this are not working,or it would be out by now.
it may be possible that an older ruu may be more "exploitable" i dont reeally know.
i hope some breakthrus come... i hate to think htc devices are going to become "unlockable" like moto i like the rezound but have got to hold out till it has at least a software s-off.
id also be happy with clip support, since i have one of them
edit: htc dev unlock is a joke anyway. i do appreciate the efforts on their part to satisfy the root community, but it is not an s-off. what you get,is an unlocked s-on hboot that lets you change recovery, boot, and system. no radio or hboot changes, and no backwards RUUs without rewriting the misc image.
its unfortunately far from the freedom from a true unsecured bootloader. it may well be good enuff for most folks, but im not happy with that.
It's a good thought tho. Yeah the htc method for the EVO users sucked. I Mena u could still flash roms and such bit they had to have a stock kernel as a default In order to flashed em thru recovery. But I wouldn't be to happy with that either. So I can't blame ya. But if that all we were offered then I would have to live with it.

htc has been locking their bootloaders, this is nothing new. in the past, its just been easy to find work arounds to either turn of the radio secure flag off,or to sneek an eng hboot(that pretends the radio is s-off ) onto the device, and its always happend quickly,in most cases before the device even came out.
to my knowledge there is not encription, like there is with moto bootloaders, ist just that we currently have no way to write a new hboot in place of the current one.
if there is not a real engineering hboot for the rezound, its not too difficult to patch a stock hboot to not do radio checks, and to provide fastboot commands, and even protect itself from being overwritten(all these are characteristics of the revolutionary hboot), its just a matter of an exploit to get it in place.
i know i sort of started that ball rolling with my comment, but i wouldnt give up just yet. hopefully someone whose smarter than us will figure it out. or the clip will support it. or both
im not saying i wont get it,but im still happy with my thunderbolt,i dont need a new phone yet,so i will wait untill we have s-off,or possibly until 4 core processors come out next year

if the 3D bootloader was incrypted,it would still be in place. i dont believe it could be overwritten, even with a radio secure flag off. it is all but impossible to find the encryption key, without the encrypter giving it to you.

So, I'm new to rooting, and, as such, after looking around the forums, I haven't found a similar thread (for the EVO 3D) about what ROM I should get. I've been looking through the CDMA forum at different ROMS, but I'm not sure which one to use. I won't be downgrading to 1.4 HBOOT, since I don't have a linux PC or the balls to do it, so I will be using the HTC Unlocker. All I want is to have the ability to use the Hotspot/tethering for free, because I'm not about to pay Sprint an extra 30 dollars/mo on top of my 65 dollar/mo plan right now.
So, if anyone has any help, I'd really appreciate it, because I have no idea what I'm doing.

Yeah, but the thing is, I've been comparing HTC Unlock with downgrade and root, the only difference, besides true s-off, is you aren't able to have you own splash screen with HTC Unlock (Big whoop.) So, instead of taking the time (albeit a few minutes) To downgrade my phone and to root it that way. I think I'll wait for ICS to come out, then for the HTC Unlock to update for it, since I rather like the way ICS will look, also as I've said before, all I really want is the ability to use the Sprint Hotspot without paying an extra 30 bucks. That and with the HTC unlock, I can still put on a custom ROM, if I so desire, once they've been updated for ICS.
Ohhhh... Where should I start.... Well for one s-off means a lot, not just splash screens... Which I love my custom splash screen btw.... Makes my phone extremely unique...
If I was in your shoes.. I would downgrade the hboot... Root it.. and install the tethering app... And be done with it... Regardless of when the ota comes out for ics.. that means very very little...
Once the ota does come out, ROM devs will be all over it, and custom ics roms will be popping up all over the place...
"All I really want is tether...." No its not.... Trust me once you dive into the rooted EVO 3d and you realize how the phone is suppose to run, not how it runs stock you will be glad you went through the trouble with the downgrade...
Do what you do, as long as your happy and enjoying your 3vo that's what's matters...

Well, my biggest problem with trying to downgrade is I'm having trouble finding a way to downgrade with just windows, since I don't have Linux. Unless I just didn't read it right, I think someone said that the link I posted about downgrading with windows is outdated?
EDIT: Why would I install a tethering app when, supposedly, I can use the Sprint Hotspot, which is supposed to be better than the tethering app? Also, I have quite a few apps on my phone and I'm not sure I'll be able to use them all still if I root my phone.
