KitKat Update Mac - G2 General

Just ordered my G2 on T-Mobile. I would like to update to KitKat once it comes. I know you need to download the LG Mobile Support tool. My question is, is that available for Macs? If not how do I go about getting the update?

why don't you root, install a custom recovery, and then flash a kitkat rom.
that way you would keep root privileges

Get yourself a virtual machine?
I've got a mac myself but never thought about it, a virtual machine is good to have for stuff like this

Yes. But unless it's working today, It has can't communicate with server errors. The easiest way, besides waiting for the OTA, is to use the LG Flash Tool on Windows.

I never got LG PC Suite to work in OsX it always throws a communication error on me. So better use a virtual Windows machine or Bootcamp

Second the Virtual Machine
I also have a Mac. A real good, fast MacBook Pro. I keep a PC desktop installed just to deal with some of these issues. Synching is not an issue, lots of solutions for that. But when it comes to rooting or restoring - to my knowledge - only solution seems to be installing a small Windows virtual desktop.

use virtual Pc or VMWare..its' very easy to setup a virtual machine. it's like to intall a new computer, but you don't need a new hardware ;-)
i'm just wondering how they edit the roms so you'Re able to flash it using vista

It has nothing to do with the ROM itself, but with the version of the RUU. HTC simply didn't made a VistaRUU for the (older) Prophet-model. The (newer) Trinity does have a VistaRUU, that's why there are two versions. Unfortunally the RUU's are model-specific, so we can't exchange them (tried it already ofcourse )
So, some genius has to modify a VistaRUU for use with the Prophet (or the other way around). BTW I do have one RUU that does work with Vista, but it isn't able to read any other nk.nbf then the one it came with.
ahhh, now i get it .. thanks for the explanation
now i'm looking for a genius he gets it to work
had the same problem, using vmware now & no problem now!

Virtual Pc don't emulate the USB connection.
I myself did create a second bootpartition on my PC with XP. So, now when I startup, I can choose between my main OS (Vista) or the second one (XP).
It is called dualboot. It is a bit of a hassle to set up if Vista is already installed, but the advantage is that XP runs native, without any emulation.
Here it is described very punctual: http://www.anichillus.net/index.php?PHPSESSID=rho4r4287rcptee39sv57rm0f3&topic=26.msg43#msg43

I have ruined my new VISTA notebook, cos I tried to make dualboot OS. Now it goes to Service Center.. Eventhough I just buy for 3 days..
And it won't cover buy warranty..****..
Better to run everything under XP actually.
Make "search" button your best friend!!
I'm using Vista ultimate edition and never had a problem upgrading my JAMin using old or new method! I even made HardSPL with vista just replace and edit .bat file! (why should i install another windows using virtual machine!!!)
This is the one...
Vista upgrade guide should be followed (once) to be able to use the vista_RUU
Guide vailable here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?p=1600161
or here (same as above):
http://mahmood1.com/upgrade_pocket_pc_ruu_in_vista.aspx
IF you only wants The vista-RUU:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=60781&d=1197014861
All what you have to do is to replace the .nbf file and upgrade!
Note: I have been using this since long time and never had problem upgrading my prophet (G3) in windows vista in any matter!
sorry to hear that man... hopefully next time it's ok
i use VMware Workstation, this program has full usb support and i have had no problems with it. just make sure you install the vmtools and dont plug in your phone until you have loaded XP fully and have it full screen.
this i found is the best way for things to happen (updates etc). also usful for bios updates since VISTA doesn't work fully yet

You are right, this is a way to get things going with Vista. The downgrade of the USB drivers makes it possible to flash "traditional", I'm doing that succesfully from April last year. But to use a RUU, is a different cup of tea.
The VistaRUU you use is for G3 only.... you've guessed, my device is G4....

[Q] Upgrade to 2.1 from linux

I wonder how I can upgrade my x10 mini pro to android 2.1 from my linux pc. I don't have any windows box at all. I'm looking for somthing like htc-flasher, but for x10.

Can you elaborate on how you did this? Because it wasn't possbile for me in VirtualBox, due to the fact that it didn't keep the USB connection.
I’m guessing he is using the non-free version of virualbox with usb support. I don't have a windows cd, so that’s no option.
Maybe the java tool posted in this thread forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826455 can be used on linux after some modifications?
Yes, that was a must.
To keep the USB connection you have to add it as a filter in the settings tab:
Without starting the virtual machine, connect the phone and go to settings > usb, select to add a filter and select the phone. I think that should work for PC Companion. If you plan to update with seus the usb device is a different one, so you should put the phone in flash mode and add the filter for the corresponding device. After the update, the name of the devices will change again, so you need to add new filters again.
Btw, I wasn't able to root through Virtualbox using Superoneclickroot but I think it was because I didn't stop PC Companion properly...

This morning I had acces to a computer with windows, and I tried to root using Superoneclickroot and I ended up having the same problem as with Virtualbox (the program was running but it was stuck at a loop), but this time I tried Ctrl+Alt+Del > Manage tasks > Finish PcComapnion, and it automatically rooted. I think If I had done the same before It would have worked...
rooting the phone with linux works like a charm... you need the sdk from h t t p : / / developer.android.com/sdk/index.html (sorry i can't post correct links)... i haven't tried flashing it yet because i'm waiting for the official update in switzerland

exactly... as soon as i have 2.1 i'll post what method i used
This is driving me crazy. I am also trying to install the 2.1 update with virtual box (non-free 3.2.10) on Mini Pro.
I am unable to get a proper USB connection to the device although it shows in the filters settings when I boot the VM it remains greyed out.
Can anybody else report success?
Sony Ericsson deserve a big slap for this.
Update: Sorry to solve my own problem, but isn't this so often the way after you ask for help:
I had to add my user to the vboxusers group, after which the usb connection worked fine.

adb works great in Linux, both for 1.6 and 2.1, but the problem is there are no flashing tools available to update.
As for rooting the phone, the program I used in 2.1 (superoneclick) seems to be a gui for some batch process in adb, hence maybe reproducing all this steps in adbshell (pushing the necesasary files, running rageagaintshecage, getting the mountpath...) one could root the phone the same way...
It looks like the superoneclick author will add linux support in the next release.

to bad the USBFlash.dll is from sony ericsson. we'll never know what the library does.
but i just played through the game of updating using a virtualbox windows machine... works like a charm. wrote down the simple steps to get it done here: h t t p : / / munz.li/?p=110

Good, I hadn't seen that before. And well, looks like it's already supported. I just installed it,
you have to run the .exe file through mono. I tried and looks like working correctly, it detects the phone... but mine is already rooted so I'm not sure...

[Q] Is there any PC Companion for MAC OSX?

I just wondering is there any PC Companion or Suite for MAC OSX works with X10?
I don't think there is one, although you can always Bootcamp it - or look at other solutions like Parallels or just run good old windows in a VM maybe.

Ubuntu liveCD fastboot

Hello xda ! I am a windows 8.1 user and as many of you know it is impossible for now to use fastboot in windows 8.1 (despite any solutions i have tried in various sites, usb drivers etc)
So i thought of installing Ubuntu in a partitin to use fastboot there but i really do not want to have a dual boot system. So i thought could it be possible to mount a usb with ubuntu liveCD without installing and use fastboot from there? (the tool for creating a usb for ubuntu had the choice to reserve some extra space for saving stuff)
Has anyone tried this or have any other solution? (a friend suggested using virtual machine)
tyvm
I am using Gentoo Linux on my laptop as my only OS.
You don't have to install Ubuntu.
Run it live from usb and with unetbootin create bootable usb and preserve some space on usb e.g. 2 GB for applications, or they will eat your RAM and freeze system when full.
Gesendet von meinem Xperia Neo V mit Tapatalk 2
That should work great, just try it, but you need some space for applications
Another great method would be Wubi! It installs Ubuntu with a .exe from windows with some GB free space and you can remove it and all data with one click. Maybe that's a good try too

Wow amazing thanks a lot guys for the responses. Sad thing is two days ago i accidentally broke my LWW screen (r.i.p) and sadly after some market search i failed to find an economic android phone which had cyanogenmod support and xda developing threads :/
I bought a lumia 520 now for 140euros and i must say i am very impressed so far with the smoothness and style despite it being the lowest end of WP8.
Cheers guys !

[Q] Ubuntu Touch MOBiLE + Ubuntu PC = sending SMS from PC ?

Hi to all Ubuntu Touch MOBiLE and Ubuntu PC users, testers...
I am hesitating to change to this OS on both upper listed devices , so phone and pc also...
I had also some experinences with Linux / Ubuntu OS in PC, but the touch version is new und untested for me. My mobile device is listed in compatibility list, so its all ,,open,, to test it and pair with Ubuntu PC.
Im moment im using Windows PC with Android Phone (work), so i need to reinstall both systems.
Has somebody experince to pair Mobile device and PC , both with Ubuntu OS and managed the mobile phone from PC ? I ,,saw,, this option on promo video of Ubuntu Phone. I think its shouold be something like ,,HandOff,, on Apple products... But i need to be 100% sure, and i need to know all information about this function.
The reason , why im asking my question is, that im using android Phone for work daily ! I NEED to READ / WRiTE SMS from PC, and sometimes editing the contacts in my phone. So this is the MAJOR function, that im using yet with combination of Windows PC and Android Phone , with MyPhoneExplorer software/client. This combination works without problems !
The only reason to try to change is my aversion of Android phone, the old not upgradable Android version and of course the costs by Windows PC. If its the a free option to make a change to better, modern, than why not.. I think all users here knows the advantages of free open source OS, so i doesnt need to extend this think...
First , sorry for my English , and then..
Thank you in advance for your repyes , comments !
Ron
Hi,
Sadly, that's not possible yet. There's nearly no advantage in connecting an Ubuntu phone to an Ubuntu PC at the moment.
