no local phone companys are offering the XDA /qtek..... phones
with a phone subscription which always lower the price of the phone
but i can buy the qtek 1010 64MB without a phone subscription but with sales tax (25%) it's 589.662 £ / 827.496 euRO

I managed to pick up a 32MB XDA for £150 from carphone warehouse - no plan either. Ex demo model which was as good as new. The SKU is XDAXDEMOSILVER if you want to check with your local CPW to see if they have any in stock.
Hi
I am sure you guys will know- eBay UK is a good cheap source for xdas and I got mine (64mb version) brand new for £290; no vat. You got to play safe and check out the seller; for me I got his number, send a cheque to a proper address with the cheque crossed so that it HAS to go into a bank account and made him send me a proper receipt. You can also use one of those escrow service which only pay the guy after you have received the set in good order. Right now this minute, there are 32 mb brand new phones advertised for £250. Most of these guys selling the new phones are folks who have contracts with O2 and doesn't need the upgrade xda and tried to make some money out of it. If you bid for one, I figure the 64mb version would be worth around £300 ish and the 32 mb version is about £200 ish. This is from observations over the last 3 months or so and of course there is an element of luck as to how many people were interested in your same bid.
Good luck

XDA for sale in Italy
XDA is coming for sale in Italy in July/August as Qtek 1010 from 3 operators.
Vodafone: will sell it only through their business channel at first, later in stores as Vodafone PDA. You can check www.190.it
WIND & TIM: both operators should go commercial very soon, I guess September.
Good thing is in Italy non of the operators lock the phones. Therefore you can go into ANY store and buy the device without a contract or so on

[Q] Galaxy S 2 in Hong Kong?

Anyone know if or when the Samsung Galaxy S 2 will be sold in stores in Hong Kong?
I'm going to be heading there next week and would love to pick up this beast!
The S2 will not be available until sometime in June. You could buy a UK version for about HKD$6300. But stocks are very limited.
I got mine last week and it's the Korea version S2.
order in expansys just HKD$5880
so it'll hit stores in June? I'm gonna be there till from beginning of June till end of July so hopefully I can pick one up there!
Purchased mine in Hong Kong last week from Expansys at $5880 also, no problems so far, when I spoke to them, these are actually UK Handsets they are getting shipped in from their UK warehouse but they do support full chinese symbology which is also great. They come debranded with the XEU firmware.
Is there an actual Expansys store in Hong Kong that I can purchase from? or do you have to order from them online? Thanks!

I've buy it for HKD $6180, at causeway bay (Germany version)
Was that the best price you could get it for, or like was it one of the only stores around that sold it? And when did you buy it also, cuz I'm wondering if any would have them in stock.
Just wondering do you live in hong kong? If so, you think sin tat plaza would have it for cheaper? And do you think it is reliable to buy from one of those vendors? E.g. I want to look out for buying a counterfeit/fake or a used one.
Also do vendors at sin tat plaza would buy a used phone from me?
now can buy
Might i ask where you can buy it? And say the range you'd get it for?
Would be nice if someone can recommend a shop which won't sell me a counterfeit or used one and has a good deal.

Soooooo, no one? Love it if I could get some more info.

I would not buy at Sin Tat. All those little shops look like crooks to me and that **** hole smells like smoke as sellers continue to smoke there even prohibited. It is basically to rip off the china mainlanders and women and foreigners that don't know they are paying for. Buy from a legit shop. There are plenty nowadays. As for the Galaxy S 2, they have the imported (grey market) ones now for about 6000hkd. I am personally waiting for it to arrive to CSL or 1010 carrier so I can renew my contract. If anyone else has more information on what stores they got theirs from, I would like to know too. Only place I saw is Citylink in MK.
Ah thanks, was afraid sin tat would be something like that since my cousin warned me of hk, just can't think of anywhere else to go.
Guess I'll try to check out citylink, I knew they'd all be grey marketed anyways but thanks for the info.
What's your estimate on how long it'll take from tin shui wai to mong kok from train, etc?
Kind of a stupid question, but any idea on how I may be able to tell if it's a legit shop? E.g In mong kok, are most shops legit? Or say like the shops in tourist shopping areas like causeway bay, kowloon city, etc, is it safe to say most shops there are legit?
Thanks man for the info, you've been most helpful.
Bumpity Bumpity bump. No spam intended... wait...

Hong Kong version always is better because most are factory´s unlocked
As someone else stated before, you can get it from Expansys, but technically you can get that from most other countries as well. Expansys Hong Kong ships the UK without NFC version, which works on quadband 2G/3G. Very fast.
At the moment, it isn't out in Hong Kong yet, and yes - the local smaller vendors charge an arm and a leg for a total of $6300 HKD ish from the places I went. I only found it at Sin Tat.
Not sure if the ones they sell there are UK or Korean versions, but I heard the Korean versions run under Korean networks which means it's NOT quadband 2G/3G.
TIP: Check Settings -> About Phone - make sure it's not the Korean version.
I talked to Broadway and Fortress, but no one has any lead time for the Hong Kong versions of the phone. I just ended up buying the non-NFC UK version. I'm impatient (plus the non-NFC version is thinner).
I'm not sure, but the word online is the Hong Kong SGS II is going to be running on the Tegra 2. Of course, this is unconfirmed. No real retail store will give you any details (unless you got hook ups -- in that case, give me the juicy details too).
Xian da guang chang (Sin Tat Plaza) is a total rip-off stay away, also most of the little electrical shops on the golden mile in TST.
Buy from a large retailer such as PCCW, Fortune and eXpansys, dont get halled in by the small shops offering you one for 4kHKD to find out when you leave the box is empty, there are so many scams.
Thanks so much for the replies. I was thinking of ordering from expansys hk when i get there but im wondering how the mailing system works there, and how much taxes i have to pay, especially since im a visitor.
Also is it safe/profitable to sell an old phone at hk? Or like will the vendors buy?

[Q] Xperia Z Ultra Hong Kong receipt needed.

Is there anyone who has purchased Xperia Z Ultra Hong Kong version in Hong Kong directly?
I have a screen problem as others have, but a little bit different. I want to post the dropbox link, but XDA do not allow me.
I am contacting the Sony Care Hong Kong for service, and they ask me to provide receipt of purchase in HONG KONG.
I bought mine in Hong Kong but I dumped the receipt when I came back to Canada to empty my pocket. And I don't
remember the store name exactly for re-issuing the receipt. You know how Hong Kong looks like. So many buildings and
stores...wow..
Anyway, even I provided my IMEI number, but they still insist the receipt. I don't understand why for this model is just 2 month
old in the world!
So...I am asking the members here.
Is there anyone who lives in Hong Kong? and can you send the receipt to my email? Please?
By the way, I will never buy any sony product in my life any more! I never had any problem with Samsung and Apple!!

No, The rep says, I have to provide receip or invoice to verify my phone is Goods of Hong Kong.
What a service Sony has... I even said I'd pay the delivery, but no help from them.
This is perfectly normal, they need to verify where the unit was bought as it is bound by that countries warranty codes. This is normal for any electrical item. The only choice you have is to contact the store and get it reissued.

Then, what is the warranty for? If they define their warranty as Retailer's warranty, I can understand what you're saying. But I am talking about
Manufacturing warranty of SONY. Sony is world-wide company, not like a small local electronic company. Many electronic company provide their manufacturing service according to manufacturing date in case customer can not provide purchase date. This is a common sense. And Sony doesn't have proper inventory system or proper distribution channel? Yes, they have! Then they can verify the item if it was meant to be for Hong Kong or not with IMEI number or serial number. And what is definition of authorized dealer? If someone buy Sony product as a second hand from a person, it immediately lose its manufacturing date even though it has been released only 4 month ago, for example (assuming no receipt)? No receipt No warranty is totally nonsense. Sony is not "SONY" any more. Stupid company...

Manufacturers warranty is still country specific, so a phone bought in far East is only bound by warranty in that country, that's the whole point. This is the case for Apple, or Sony down to the smallest product developer. It's nothing to do with Sony particularly, they just abide with that countries laws, blame the courts.

I think you forget something. I know manufacturer's warranty can be country specific. But this doesn't mean No receipt No warranty has to be followed always in specific country unless it is elucidated in law. Sony can accept it if they want for its brand image and customer care. And this case is for sure manufacturing defect. Just the number of people who face this problem is less compared to who does not. If it was more, Sony would have made recall for this product. Have you brought your iphone (if you had) to Apple store in China? I have, when I was their for work for a while. They didn't ask any receipt when they saw my iphone is recently released one at that time. I dropped it so the screen got broken. I got the screen replaced. Of course I paid for replacing screen for it isn't warranty covered unless it is manufacturing defect, but I wasn't asked about receipt strictly at least. I am not trying to praise Apple. I am trying to say what is the common sense. Even the judge in the court make a conclusion in extenuation of criminal's circumstance. Then am I worse than these criminals?

[Q] Unable to purchase Samsung Gear S apps!

Hi Guys,
Firstly as a lowly user, thanks for developing apps for us lesser mortals.
I must admit that I am a bit frustrated that I can't purchase certain apps in the UK via Samsung Gear Apps because PayPal, my debit card & Vodafone all have a minimum limit & the apps are priced below it.
The problem seems to be with the apps that are either €uro or US$ based. The minimum amount for PayPal UK is 79 pence which is more than €1 or US$1 which is where I think some developers in Europe & the USA have priced their apps. (Heart Monitor from the Netherlands is an example - cost 77p in the UK - below minimum acceptable)
Sadly I realise this will mean putting up the price a bit for people outside the UK but thinking positively it means the developers will earn more and hopefully developed more as a result.
The other option is for Samsung to buy the apps outright and offer them free to their Gear S customers? Tizen is, after all, a minnow in a large pond of ferocious fish and to gain 'full' acceptance and Samsung need to make it an attractive alternative!

Buying in China?

I'm going to the Beijing area later this month. I'm thinking about picking up an Amazfit in a store. It should be easy enough to change it into English firmware or PACEify it.
Has anyone bought it in a store in China? I wonder which stores are selling it - any electronics store or just Xiaomi branded stores and what price to expect?
Don't know what price are at in China but I got mine online for $104 us dollars.
I'm Europe based, and in order to avoid VAT and admin. fees by importing from US or China-based online webshops I have to buy through Europe-based resellers - and then the price is something like >$200 according to my research. So it would just be easier (cheaper), when I am in China to buy one there if possible.

I'm based in europe and the price I paid was £82 from gearbest and also geekbuying (I bought 2 amazfits).
You don't pay any VAT or admin tools from either of those retailers if you just choose the standard delivery method,.

UK.
I'm in Denmark. So gearbest ship from within the EU? Maybe I'll look it up.
Though still traveling to China so if anyone have information about getting one of these out there let me know.
Check with some aliexpress seller (sort by number of orders) and ask them from what town they are. Maybe you will be near them, so you can make personal deal. Or just order from aliexpress and put the adress for delivery where you will be in that time. Easy as that
You can do same with Gearbest/geekbuyibg, etc.

Yes gearbest ship to the EU. Though recently I've had a better experience with geekbuying (their shipping was much faster)
I think buying online would actually end up being less hassle than buying in China, and I'm not convinced there would be a huge saving anyway. At least with buying online you have some protection and after sales support.

No they are not shipping from the EU, but they have found a way to avoid for you to pay taxes.
Probably won't last after brexit, as it is rumored that they ship via UK and then avoid taxes at all.
Just a short update. I ended up buying Amazfit Pace from the Xiaomi store in the shopping mall 'Modern Plaza' (https://goo.gl/maps/ETduKM7SLcw) in Beijing. Easily accessed by the subway.
The unit price was 799 Yuan. No problems by installing English firmware and updating to 1.3.4f.
I did look for it other places but couldn't find it anywhere. I found most resellers only had a few Xiaomi phones and sometimes more simpler fitness trackers.
