I have posted before with no luck, but hoping someone has found a fix for it in the past few months..
Whenever I use my browser (Boat Browser or all the others I've tried) to watch videos, I no longer have the option to "Open" or "Download" the file, it just automatically plays in the built in media player.. I want to use MX Player..I used to have the option of what to do with the video, but same thing happening with built in player..I have made sure all defaults were cleared, and I even tried uninstalling the Gallery that is linked with the camera.. No luck.
I'm running 4.3 on my tablet, and still have the option so obviously it is a 4.4 issue, and not a browser issue. So just hoping I get lucky and someone has found a fix for it.. Appreciate any feedback!

Can anyone help me on this, my GS2 loses it's default video file association on most reboots, and on a couple of occaisions without rebooting, I use the android video player for videos, which I check to use as default everytime I get the popup, also have quickpic and poweramp installed, poweramp is only in the choice box if it's an mp4, for all other video types it's a choice of video player or quickpic.
I've tried changing the video player apk for a newer version, an updated version of quickpic, and a 101 other things in the past week, and now have no hair left to pull out, this really does have me puzzled.
Obviously Android is losing the setting for some reason, does anyone know of a soloution ? seems completely ridiculous to me that the os can't even remember something as simple as which app to use to open a video file.
This is somewhat of a basic question regarding ICS.
I set the default video player to the stock one on ICS accidentally, and I cannot change the default video player to BSPlayer now (which is also installed on my system).
I went to Settings>Apps and tried to look for the stock ICS Video Player but I cannot find it to change the "Launch By Default" selection.
Can anyone help with this? Thanks in advance.
Never mind. I figured it out. "Gallery" is what the stock ICS video app is called.
I used Default App Manager to figure this out.
Gallery

a year later... i have a similar problem.
I receive *.mov files on my mail - and i also accidentally chose the default Video player for my HTC - ICS.
so now its unable to play the file directly and says "Cannot play video - Sorry this video cannot be played" when i click on the attachment
I have already reset MX player reset to default - and also reset the "Gallery" to default but still the same thing - i still cannot play the video directly after downloading the mov attachment.
appreciate your inputs.
Greetings from Portugal.
Before I start, yes, I have tried searching for it. Found a couple of old threads that didn't help much...
My question is: Is there a way to watch any video format without it stopping every few minutes?
If I use the stock player everything is fine, but it cannot support several video formats like avi, rmvb... etc. I use the MX player, but on some types of video, it stopps every few minutes. It's sooooo annoying!
From what i've seen in some threads, it happens with other video apps too. AND, when i am watching something directly from the internet, like fastpasstv, the video stops loading also every few minutes. I have to restart the loading from the middle... not hard, but also annoying. (using stock browser, and this doesn't happen on youtube for example)
Is the issue related? Since it seems to be happening to both online and offline video viewing...
I am stock, non-rooted, and non-unlocked... Wifi is fine.
I have the same problem. But it is a MX Player specific one for me. BS Player works fine (but has other issues).
Edit: I tried with the 'Performance Mode' and it works so far. Maybe a workaround?
I never have this problem when streaming one of many video formats from my PC to my Prime using ES File Manager to find the video files on my PC and MX to play them as streams.
Is this something that you tend to experience with streams/videos being played directly on the Prime?
For me it is locally played .ts videos.
Meanwhile I found this thread http://groups.google.com/group/mx-videoplayer/browse_thread/thread/533d7296c0305183
It might be a Prime/ICS problem. There seems to be no solution up to now.
I get this same issue trying to stream video from sites other than youtube. It is when I'm streaming that I get most of the lock ups with the prime, reboots, etc. Maybe it is something to do with the allotted cache size of the browser being used up and cleared to make room for more buffered video?
It is rather annoying. You basically have to let it load and watch the whole thing as it goes. If I hit pause or so anything else then it risks stopping the stream where ever its at in the buffering. It's nice to have it start loading up, hitting pause, and walking away for a few minutes to let it buffer up. But then when I come back it would have just stopped about a 1/3 into it or 1/2 way. It would require hitting the reload button at the top or having to close the browser, kill it in the task manager, and then reopen it.
I don't have this issue with Netflix though. They did something right in their app.
I used to have this issue with mx player. It really sucked having to restart a movie every 5-10 minutes.
You want to use Dice Player. It's played everything I've thrown at it. All in Hardware rendering so the screen goes blank when plugged into HDMI.
Haven't had any issues since. I'm using the paid version, I assume they are both alright though.
Okay...I thought I was fairly experienced but this has me stumped
When I try playing from the Samsung Media Hub, all I get is blank video but I get all the audio and subtitles.
If I hit the back button, I see the last video frame before the video player closes.
Tried JoeVLC as well as MX Player and I get the same behavior.
Avengers used to play fine just a few weeks ago.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the video players.
I tried uninstalling any apps I installed over the past few weeks as well.
I Google'd for everything I could think of and only found one facebook Page that sounded vaguely like this problem but MX Player solved it for them.
Anyone else see this? Or better yet, fix it?
PS. Forgot to mention I tried rebooting the phone without luck.
Youtube and Flash in Web pages work fine.
This is also a stock ROM.
So I have MX Video player installed and where I could I set it as the default video app player. However when in the standard browser or even in Chrome browser when clicking a video it still plays using the native video player on the GS4. I downloaded a tool to tell me what all of my defaults are and I cannot find anything else so I'm lost at the moment. Is there a way to override the "built-in" video player when in a browser so I can use MX instead? I am unrooted, stock on the Verizon GS4 16GB and have the ME7 update installed via Kies. TIA for any help.
Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Just took the DMI1 update and still I cannot get MX to be the default video player for some websites. Anyone know a way to disable the built-in video player that launches by default? What's the app's name and location and can I disable it? Thanks.
Settings, More, Apps, All, find Video Player. In the Video Player App Info page scroll down and tap Clear Defaults.
Now you'll be prompted next time you open a video asking which player to use.

Yeah, I checked that a long time ago. Both Video and Video Player, the purple circle with white triangle are not showing as default - they are both greyed out. That's what is so strange about this. Can't put my finger on it.
I went to apps, show all apps incl. system and searched for 'player' then I'd found some unknown player (can't recall its name); I'd uninstalled it and videos played well back again from Telegram. Weird.
