Anything for Archos Gamepad 2 ? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anything for the Archos Gamepad 2 like custom recovery or rom ?

Any update on that?

good tablet?
I would also like to know if it's possible to root the device, I have a friend who wants to buy the tablet
Is the tablet good for use other than games?

Hey I know the thread is quite old but I got a root method. If you are interested just let me know

what's the sense of asking if we are interested? just post it without asking, if I well remember this was one of the requests of the op..

Are you mad? This thread is as old as your account is, about 2 years. After such a long time it is unlikely that this request is still up to date. No one uses the Archos Tablets anymore, including me. So better watch out what you write before pressing the submit reply button.
Dont tell me after nearly 10 years of being here how I have to post something

I don't get the point of your rude answer, you asked 6 days ago if someone is still interested in knowing a root method for this specific device, but if the op hadn't had an answer for his request in a long time, maybe he (or someone who reads like me) could be interested in knowing it anyway!
And just so you know, I bought this device right today, who cares if you are not using it anymore? If you still know a root method of it, "Please" post it, I didn't imagine how rude can be the people everyday.. keep calm

Well ok maybe I was too rude. Had a bad day at the office. Took your answer too offensive. Sorry man.
I 'just' didnt post a 'how to root' as I needed to look into my archives first on how I did it back years ago, took me some time.
I created and uploaded a package for you (and anyone else interested) to dropbox with all files needed.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/tc8vcutkk4i95ho/Root.zip?dl=0
There are special adb drivers for the tablet, I think they were needed. As I said it has been some time I did it myself but they were necessary I think.
Well and afterwards just run the .exe file. Should root it then. (Kingo Root?)
Anleitung.txt was my translation from the original french tutorial.
Good luck

Thank you for your time, as soon as I get my hands on it (I bought it online, it will take some time once I receive it) I will try it and update the thread with the results.
Maybe, since some years are passed, KingoRoot could make root easier to do; I will try it first and in negative case I will try to follow your suggestions.
I'll keep you posted =)

So, here I am again..
I used latest kingo root apk to root my gamepad 2 and if I try to replace kingoroot with supersu (using the sh /sdcard/mrw/root.sh command in terminal emulator) it deleted the kingoroot app and set the superSu app as system app but then when I try to open up SuperSu, it tells me that the su binary are not installed and that it's a problem..
I even tried to root with kingoroot app and installing the superSu app, while opening, it asks me to update Su binary but if I try to do so then the "operation failed" is shown as consequence...
I really need to get rid of Kingoroot and install the SuperSu and su binaries because if not, the foldermount app will keep telling me there is some write error by using it..
I tried searching on the web to find if there is some CWM or TWRP recovery available and I found only the RK30GENERIC_CWM.zip file (here).
Anyone has tested it yet? If I successfully flash the CWM I would be able to flash the superuser through recovery and so to update the su binaries..
The question is: is there any other methods to try before trying to flash a recovery that God only knows if it work or if it bricks my tablet?
I was wondering if I can manually insert those binaries into something /system folder...
Please, any help would be very appreciated!

fixed by using kingo root PC version; this version is different from the one for android because it installs the SuperSU instead of the kingoroot app.. =)
Any news related Custom roms and Kitkat 4.4.4?

Congrats on rooting. I have no info or news about a 4.4.4 ROM or anything newer. This device is 'dead' for devs And I guess Ill sell mine soon. Still, have fun with it

I have a question why did this device never got any support from devs? it is a pretty cool device, great for emulators, you can even install the ouya store on it.
Anyway I am hiring a dev for a specific mod for this device, I can pay using paypal please pm if you are interested.

[Q] Assistance with basic Rooting

Hi All,
First time Using this site so please bare with me
I'm sure people have asked this question before and i'm REALLY hoping i'm not going to piss people of by asking but wanted to do this as it would get me a faster easier to understand result (I hope)
I would like to know if there is a basic universal root out there which you don't have to flash or install custom roms etc like 'super one click' I'm not sure if this type of root has a specific name or not? I have spent the last month searching the net and i can't seem to find anything.
The reason I am not wanting to do the flash/custom rom type root is, for lack of a better word I am not smart enough
So I would hugely apreciate if someone could let me know if there is a one click type root or if not, is there any other type of way that is dummy proof and SUPER simple for someone who has relatively basic skills?
phone spec's (please let me know if I have missed something)
SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 GT-I900T
JELLYBEAN 4.1.2
Any assistance would be awesome! As I am really close to just having to give up :crying:
THANKS!!

If you follow the instructions here you should be fine rooting with CF-Autoroot. As it happens, it is quite simple, just make sure you read the instructions and you really need root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276 try this method called framaroot. from the link provided. it does not require custom rom or recovery.

There is no huge chance of bricking whereas you never can be sure for 100% as manufacturers didn't lock their devices without reason .
Just make sure you know what you are doing, there are also good how toes on YouTube which explain & show you step by step how to root.
In addition, after rooting, make sure you are covered regarding the SDS bug which is explained in @rootSU thread here

Hi, rooted my galaxy ace a few years back and would for 2 start just like to do the basics - uninstall factory apps im not interested in, do and sd card partition.
Was then hoping to look into other things i have not tried before and see what i can do! Didnt have a huge amount of time to play with my previous root due to upgrading to a newer phone. (which was a chinese clone and prooved to be a nightmare!)
yes it is my preferred method of rooting as I prefer to use stock rom, kernel, and stock recovery as well.

I prefer SuperSU myself. Chainfire is a great dev. Its just which app acts as the root gatekeeper. They're both pretty much the same though.
I don't know which exploit.
framaroot is by far the easiest method I have used .BEFORE YOU BEGIN go to settings /security/unknown sources make sure you check off allow installation of appsfrom sources other than play store. then my advice is first click the link in my previous post, use the newest version 1.4.3 . you can use a qr scanner, this eliminates any issues that may arise from a loose usb connection . or you can simply download from your phone directly . once the app is downloaded you can install it . open the app to find several exploits. sam, frodo, aragorn and I think a new one.i forget the name.sam and Frodo no longer work for my device but Aragorn worked for me the last time I used it. I am on the leaked test rom . so the older methods are patched and no longer work. but you should find at least one exploit that does work ..when you do you will be prompted to reboot your phone. I would suggest you install busybox next as some root applications do not work properly without busybox.. after all this you may see your about phone status has changed to modified.. this can be fixed usually by a factory data reset. although you may also need to use triangle away to reset the flash counter. your mileage may vary. good luck!

PLEASE READ!!!!! Root Alcatel OT 4010a

Hello there. A long time I have been gone. First, I HOPE this is the right place to ask, if not, please move my question. Okay, long story short. I just got an Alcatel OT 4010a here in Mexico, and it is loaded of bloatware by my carrier. I am looking for a way to root my phone and have seen so far one way and that is by using a chinese app known as Ishuaji Root and by feedback, some have failed to root their device and/or brick it. Here goes the question, is there any other way of rooting this device aside from using the app mentioned before? Is anybody in the process of finding another way to root it? PLEASE ANSWER!!! I have posted like 3 threads here and only one thread got answered.

this is not for only gingerbread 2.3.4 i have tried it on many versions. even some honeycomb tabs worked.
Ok, I am about to try it, but one thing before doing it, what are the possibilities of the app bricking my phone?
P.S: Sorry for the noobish question but, Google Chrome marks it as a posible "dangerous" program. Or is it safe?

If you still not rooted.
Try MTK Droid Root and Tools by rua1, I succesfully rooted my phone (OT 5021E). You can find that here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2160490
ishauji root
I used ishauji root to root mine although it did make my phone slow and it is still risky but follow these instructions:
1.download root tool "ishauji root tool" (just google it)
2.install it to computer
3.download the driver for your alcatel or else the root tool wont recognise your phone
4.make sure phone battery is full and you have it in usb debug mode:- to do this go to settings/applications/development
5.connect phone to computer via usb cable
6.When you open root tool a button should turn green thats the button you should click to root
observation: phone restarts a couple of times then its rooted.
hope this helped:angel:

Zte warp elite n9518 root NOT COMPLETE

I've been all over the forum and cannot find any ACTUAL information on rooting the ZTE Warp Elite N9518 for boost. The one thread that says "COMPLETE" directs only to the root any phone area. None of those methods say they are compatible with this phone... please help. Been reading for days... last thing I want to do is brick my phone.... I was directed here by XDA assist
I concur, I can not afford to brick this beautiful phone. I saw a twitter post claiming that some guys root app can do it for our phones if they're 5.0.2 Android like oohokay they come with 5.1 mister click bait scammer... Tho getting into recovery and activating developers settings is easy enough on the warp elite.

Run kingoroot, then uninstall the kingoroot superuser apk then you will have temp root until you reboot. I have made a little progress over at the Android forums. I have got boot and recovery images using Flashify.apk and got the /system though I think it is not a flashable image. I can't get nandroid online backups to work though. I'm still a boob at this.
I would be willing to put $10 towards paying the developer who can come up with a root for the warp elite 9518.
I know its pocket change but I'm hoping I can start a list of people who are willing to pledge some money, 5$-10$, I would keep a forum post with the user names of the people willing to donate, and the total amount available for payment upon a successful root. Offline I will keep that same list but include their first name and amount they would be able to pitch in. All money will stay in the donators possesion, until an agreement is made regarding dev payment
Hopefully a capable dev sees this as something they could do if they were compensated for their time. I just need to run this by the admin here to see if this is something I can do that wouldn't violate any rules.

I have successfully rooted the N9518. i used the kingo root for windows. I did a hard reset of the phone and after the reset went into settings where it said pc connections i the enabled the debugging and had the connection setting on the one that said install drivers. It says that setting is used when first connected to a computer or when the drivers were unavailable. I ran the kingo root, connected the device, waited for it to show the model then clicked the root. Somewhere between five to ten minutes later it said root succeeded. I verified the root using two different root checkers and i have pictures of the verified root. I will do another post with the pictures as soon as i figure out how to post them on here.

Hello I need to correct the post I made. The root access that I had for the N9518 was just a temporary root access. still figuring out how to make it permanent.
I just ordered the phone it will be here Saturday, if I can get temp root I think I have a pretty good idea how to make it permanent, I was the first and only one to find permanent root on the LG Stylo 2 and my method is pretty universal.

Im not a dev either just a dude who loves messing with android. As soon as I get it Saturday I'll start messing with it and if my technique works I'll post a guide. Also all I can say is never update until you get root most of the time security patches are patches for root vulnerabilities and we want those root vulnerabilities, so if you havent updated good, if you have well try not to update any more if it pops up.
the method does not work

So the method that you recommended did not work for me the only way I had gotten the temp root was the kingo root over usb connection it gave me a temporary root then I tried to follow the guide that you sent me the link to when I did that and rebooted the system the root was removed. So I went and removed the kingo root and went and installed the king root tried to root it that way it failed twice and then on the third attempt to root it soft bricked my phone and I had to factory reset my phone. So no root yet, maybe you will have better luck. I shall continue to look for a way to make the root permanent, and will post anything I find. There has to be a way, there just has to. Good luck

i just got the phone, been messing around with it didnt realize it was so locked down I only have been able to get temp root once then lost it from a mandatory reboot, gonna keep at it hopefully soon anyone will find root.
Tried KingRoot, made it to 27% on 2nd try but had to factory reset twice.

Acer Predator 8 GT-810 Root needed please!

Hello, i am willing to donate if someone can figure out a way to Root the new Acer Predator 8 GT-810 Tablet. Been looking everywhere and tried many common root apps with no luck. Thanks in advance.
Mee Too! I will also donate when someone helps me to root the Acer predator 8.
Amazing tablet, but what's the point when you can't root and hook up your Ps3 controller to play some emulators?
First i need root for the device to get it Ad-free and to install appOops, to delete tons of bloatware, a working recovery would be great and some custom Roms also.
I would love to have root for this tablet too
Anybody knows, how to root Acer Predator 8 GT-810 ?
I can unlock the bootloader, unfortunately I need to compile TWRP to install the SU binaries. If anyone can point me in the right direction on how to compile TWRP for a device that no devs are working on, I would love to try to do this myself. Thanks!

Hi man,
You can visit the "Taiwan101 ROM Factory" of Facebook to ask he how to compile TWRP to install the SU binaries.
URL as below : .facebook.com/tw101.rom.factory/?fref=ts
Please add www at the .facebook.com/
so I cannot use "post outside links".
(To prevent spam on the XDA forums, ALL new users prevented from posting outside links in their messages. After approximately 10 posts, you will be able to post outside links. Thank you for understanding!)
And if you success root Acer GT-810, please help provide the Root Tool to me, thank you very much.:fingers-crossed:
I might have a way of easily flash TWRP, and install SuperSU, use the Temporary recovery project to boot temporarily into twrp and flashing supersu, theres an easy way of getting twrp permanently but ill try it when i get the tablet 31th of this month.
Also this temporary recovery does not require an unlocked bootloader since it uses a flaw in bootloader to load twrp, but it might be patched, just try it.
Perhaps this new found exploit can be used in rooting this tablet. http://arstechnica.com/security/201...tflips-to-root-android-phones-is-now-a-thing/
Hi, i am thinking of getting one for my son to replace his aging xoom. I want a tablet that can be rooted so I can get rid of bloat wire, not overly fussed about a rom.
I have googled rooting and came across a page How to root Acer Predator 8 GT-810 on androidrootmania.net
Has anyone tried any of these methods of root. Thankyou in advance for replies

it's okay, if you root Acer GT-810 successfully, please help me how to root it with root tool, Thank you very much.
I want use xposed on Acer GT-810.
I think its time to share at least some results, i was able to port TWRP 3.0.2 to this device AND ROOTING this device. ill leave twrp 3.0.2 here for who wants it. Please read all of the post.
=============================================================================================
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT ROOTING:
After flashing TWRP 3.0.2, use the SuperSU 2.46 flashable zip, do NOT use latest version or will result in a bootloop. Good Luck and have fun with rooting. Links on bottom of the post.
=============================================================================================
REQUIREMENTS
1- Unlocked Bootloader (search on google if you dont know how to unlock)
2- Drivers and Adb/Fastboot commands knowledge
=============================================================================================
New TWRP bugfix update! Now you can flash stock rom on TWRP without bricking! Download Page updated!
=============================================================================================
Bugs:
1- adb shell command needs to be sent before system partition is mounted or it will give an error, after doing adb shell you can mount system and do all the modifications you need.
2- You cant flash any img on twrp it gives an error, im trying to fix.
3- Backups do work, but everytime twrp restarts, the device name seems to change (which means that on /TWRP/BACKUPS/devicename/backupsinside/ changes every reboot so you have to go get the backup inside the old devicename folder and put on the new devicename folder).
=============================================================================================
Im leaving an unsecured boot image because system seems not want to boot android if anything seems changed. So please if system does not boot after flashing twrp/rooting, flash the unsecured boot img on fastboot.
=============================================================================================
Also im asking just a little bit of your time to request our device to have our own forum threads as it will make it a lot easier to manage the development and make it easier for people with same device to find it, request it here, the more people the better the higher chances we get to see a forum thread for our device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660354

Dont forget to press thanks if i helped you. Im also sorry if its a bit messed up the explanation, its hard when theres no specific threads for the device.

I finally rooted the device! Download SuperSU 2.46 (DO NOT USE LATEST VERSION as it will cause a bootloop), and flash it with the TWRP i made that i shared on this thread.

Hi Ruben mind posting a step-by-step guide? How do you flash the TWRP? And which .img file in your shared zip file should we use?

on this thread simply scroll up and you should see it, its saying what bugs and names of the images are pretty straightforward.. flash the unsecured boot (its names osmething like that), and flash the TWRP.img, the root you will have to search on google for version 2.46, if u use the latest you will have bootloop

i am aware of allow oem unlock, this does not however help me in the process of unlocking and installing custom recovery.
TWRP doesn't appear to be available for the 4060A Ideal yet, if anyone notices they made one in the future please post in this thread.
Did you try the very latest version of KingRoot from Nov 23, 2016: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=21707
Please post if you did and if it worked.
EDIT: Yes. KingRoot5 does work but DO NOT USE King-O-Root. King-O-Root will permanently BRICK this phone. But KingRoot5 works.
EDIT2: See this post
I rooted this phone yesterday with the latest KingRoot. I I installed my backup from an LG K7 which I had fully rooted by using an older version of Super su me. Unfortunately I lost that phone. I found this phone on closeout at Kmart and Im trying to get something going on it. It's strange that busybox will install with the new version of KingRoot still installed. Everytime I run super su me (I have tried several different versions) it either crashes or just doesn't do anything. I'm working on it now. Any of you funny guys been able to remove KingRoot and keep root.
Screenshot from this phone. I once rooted an elevate and it came back as a pixi.
The reason why your post is important is people don't want to run KingRoot and find out the hard way it doesn't work, so thanks for posting that.
Yes, removing KingRoot and keeping root would be the golden grail, I'll post here as soon as I come across anyone who's done that. I can't find anyone yet with TWRP or FlashFire-equivalent, let alone root with KingRoot removed...
I read on another thread for this device that they successfully did it with the PC version of KingRoot. I'm leary about putting it on my laptop. I'm hard on phone's and have been messing with them for about a year now so far I haven't bricked a device. I've unlocked a couple of bootloader's. Seems I have the best luck with metro/lg. But I like a challenge and couldn't pass up this phone for the price. First time I got an at&t phone to achieve any kind of root.
I rooted this phone using kingroot then used this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/a310/general/how-to-remove-replace-kingroot-kinguser-t3308989 to switch out kingroot for SuperSU. But you should read the comments in the thread as well for helpful hints, I used link2sd to fully remove kingroot after the script finished.
Bottom line is root and supersu can be achieved fairly easily.
I will give it a try. Ty

Did it work for you? I don't see Alcatel mentioned in that thread. I'm curious.
He says it worked for him using link2sd. The original method without link2sd used in the linked thread does not work on Alcatel Ideal 4060a, I tried it.
But his method of using link2sd may work - he says it does.
But how do you exactly do that method? What lines of code do you use, what exactly is the process with link2sd?
That's what we are after, how do you use link2sd with Alcatel Ideal 4060a. I hope he comes back and posts. Otherwise one of us will hopefully figure it out eventually on here...

In the post I linked theres a person who (on the first page) added a code to the script for link2sd.
However, im a bit to lazy to do the research into editing the script, so I think I just ran the script then used link2sd to remove kingroot, then reboot.
Though I had to do this while enduring a constant popup requiring me to press ok over and over.
To be honest though Im a bit fuzzy on the full process because I to had trouble getting the script to work. I might have run the script then rebooted then tried removing kingroot.
I will do this then post full instructions.
I actually know exactly what you are talking about.
But what exactly did you do inside link2sd, can you just post that?

Low-end phones don't have their own sections in xda. I doubt there is one for this phone.

Right, I have attempted to use Kingo root and I was able to remove att crap but I can't grant any other su permissions as I don't get that pop-up box with allow root permissions. I'm not sure how Kingo works but I'm pretty sure there should be some way to grant permissions.
