if u have official version - updated via KIES u dont need to root the device at all. root is here to open new options...but u cant go wrong with the stock setup mate.
Root is a method of opening up the operating system at a deeper level .
As rooting voids warranty dont bother unless you need it .
1.What is root/rooting?
root is the user account in Linux with all privileges. The root user can edit anything on the system. For safety reasons, users do not have all those privileges. When you root your phone, you will gain write access to areas of the phone you couldn't previously access and are allowed to run more commands in the terminal. Because applications do not get a lot of priviledges, some of them require you to root the device in order for them to function properly (or fully).

Hello!
I purchased a used Bell Atrix online, which apparently has been rooted.
I installed a root checker to see if it is rooted and it indicates that it is not "rooted". However, anti-virus programs such as AVG indicates that it IS "rooted".
i would like to "un-root" the phone, but am unable to figure out how.
i have tried a factory reset, however this does not appear to resolve the issue.
is there a way to figure out the method of my rooting so i can go from there?
or do i do a total root and then unroot?
system version
45.21.78.mb860.bellmobility.en.ca
android version
2.3.6 (done over the air)
webtop version
n_01.07.05p
kernel version
2.6.32.9

build number

i have no idea what is normal (stock) and what can be attributed to being rooted
thanks for any help
Root Checker
Hello, sorry to use the same thread but i was wondering about the same thing, i have 2.3.6 ota and tried to root my phone but at the end it didnt installed anything not even tu su app or the terminal app.
I downloaded the root checker but it tells me "this device does not have proper root access" - does this mean I have no root access at all, or there is some, but it's not 'proper'. ?
also should i worry after this if i plan to upgrade over the air to ics ota when it comes out?
Sorry about it, im quite noob at this, if you can help me with my questions i would appreciate it a lot, because i couldnt find anything on the internet about it
i checked with that one as well as the other free one in the play store. I also installed "superuser" (little android dude with an eye patch), and it say i wasnt rooted either.
so im not sure where to go next.
do a full and proper root (will that mess anything up, considering im apparently already "rooted/not rooted" depending on what to believe), and then do a proper un-root.
or keep searching and asking what to do?
thanks for your help...
Greetings all!
I have been a long time user, first time poster, but have rooted my phone many times with success, however after a mini update today, the rootkit I used last time kind of worked, however most of the root functionality no longer works. I assume im just using an out of date rootkit.
Model: GT-i9300
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband: i9300BVELK1
Build: JZO54K.i9300XXELLA
The device does say modified but the apps still function as if it isn't rooted.
I am on Orange France Telecom living in France, using the handset from Orange. Which software download do I need to get the root working correctly please? I have checked alot of the guides but all point to what I assume is an out of date rootkit.
Thank you for your response in advance.
You can try updating the binaries from within the app.
And please don't ask questions in General

How do I do that please? I am concerned I will break my phone if I mess too much. Very much a beginner with rooting outside of the guides.
Go to the superuser app and do it there

I may have been unclear, I don't know what the phrase "updating a binary" means. Thank you for taking an interest in helping though.
Also the version of the root software was Odin 1.64 I think (working from memory as not at home right now).

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this please? I am sitting at home now and I think I was using 1.85 Odin not 1.64. Why does my device say modified but still won't give me root access to apps etc.

You should root using this its ptobably the best and easiest way
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957273
Download the zip from post 3 extract the MD5 file and flash via odin 1.85 is ok
Ok...
The problem being is that the root hasn't worked. I get through the root, but each time in the past, it does some file verifying where it says "verifying 1 of 145 files" or something similar, and then adds SUser and CWM - It doesn't do this after this root, and the phone, while saying rooted, won't work as a rooted phone. All my unlicensed apps now fail to load.
I really think that the micro update installed via KIES today needs a new rootkit. I tried the above update, and all that did was delete the Super User app too >_<
Thank you for your patience so far. This stuff is very complicated outside of the normal rooting.

If you use CF Auto Root and lose SU just download SU from the market, this one
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImV1LmNoYWluZmlyZS5zdXBlcnN1Il0.
CF Auto root doesn't contain CWM you need to install that seperately or install TWRP recovery

Ok so made a bit of progress, got the SuperSU on there again, but apps still function as unlicensed. This was all working fine until the update this morning, but at least we are progressing.
Still haven't solved it. Some apps work, some don't. I even tried Lucky Patcher, no joy.
I have a problem with my GS3. It's brand new, and I've never rooted or flashed a custom rom or anything.
The status of my device switches from normal to modified frequently (Whenever it says Modified a reboot changes it back to normal, I can't define when it changes to modified). If I go into Odin Mode, the following is what I see:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-19300
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
If I reboot and go back into Odin Mode, System Status changes to Official.
I installed a few root apps to check if I could use them. None of them give me root access.
The root checker apps tell me I don't have proper root access. However...
BusyBox Installer tells me 'your device is rooted', but I can't install it.
Root Browser gives me full access to everything.
So...
Is my device rooted?
I've wondered whether the phone I was given was secondhand and that the previous owner maybe rooted it and sent it back or something?
I'm confused...
You can see the pictures and more info on this G+ post: goo . gl / V7f68w
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey guys i wanted to root my samsung sm-J111F but neither kingo root nor kingroot worked but finally i found the method by those files taken from this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/root-samsung-galaxy-j1-ace-sm-j111m-f-t3395520 but it worked fine till i installed lucky patcher to my phone and it wanted grant to root so i did and then phone asked reboot then it always kept telling me custom binary blocked by frp lock i didn't know how to fix it so i've downloaded firmware from sammobile and i had to flash it on my phone by odin ...
So i want to ask some questions:
Is that issue because i have enabled oem lock ?
What is OEM lock ?
Is it because i didn't update the binary ? If it's the case why we do it and how we do it?
How to avoid this issue to happen again ?
please help me
Thankyou
