I have a rooted MJ4 Note 3 and was wondering what would happen if I accepted the Sprint OTA. I am guessing that I would lose root, but wondering how difficult it would be to get it back. I prefer to not trip my KNOX counter if I don't have to.
If you have the donate version of super su you may be able to have it keep root. The app has a option to try and actively keep root, No guarantees it will work tho.

I haven't found a solution for this either. I accepted the OTA and I am looking to root without tripping Knox. I was wondering if I could go back to MJ4 root then a stock rooted ROM KITKAT to stay official. I want to use a few apps, but they require my phone to be rooted.

I am taking it that you applied the OTA and lost root. Did anything else break?

Once on KK 4.4.2 you have successfully burned your boat to JB 4.3. The only way now is to trip Knox and flash engineered bootloader as the steps say on the forum.
Well poo....Thanks Slow_one... I was hoping for a slight chance. ... ?

I am stock rooted and have the update notification sitting around waiting. Is it safe to allow this OTA at my current state? I assume after I will need to root again? If root again, whats the best method?
Thank you!

If you want root, don't take it. I suggest you read few more forums.

The OTA removes root and to my knowledge, there is no working root method for the OTA at the moment.
You'll need to use VooDoo Root Keeper to retain root for the OTA. It's not guaranteed although it has worked for myself and others. You'll lose any custom recovery and any power to install a custom recovery. You will end up with root on the latest OTA but that's it. That's your only choice right now. Or, of course, staying where you're at.

Some were here in the forum there was posted away to root without tripping Knox. But you can not uninstall Knox.. I would suggest just rooting it, let it trip knox and be done with it.. If you need to make a trip to the Sprint store, just flash back to stock... Sprint for the most part does not have a policy against rooting as I have been told..

I think you can uninstall Knox if you search Google on how to uninstall Knox there is a YouTube video and even a Samsung site describing, but I do not know if by doing this it allows me to perform a route without trripping Knox

Yes there is a possibility to root without tripping KNOX, CF-auto works most of the time if your careful. BUT, that's it once you install a custom recovery you will trip KNOX warranty (e-fuse) . You can NOT remove KNOX completely, however you can disable it there are several sites with lists of the KNOX files, and KNOX related container files. Just google it to get the sites. You will an app like Root Explorer and be rooted to delete the files. In the end there will be four KNOX files you will never able to erase. They just keep coming back on reboot, thankfully they remain empty. Why go through this because KNOX was written for Samsung by the NSA. "THERE TRACKING YOU" This is from Samsung's own site http://www.samsung.com/uk/news/local/samsung-unveils-samsung-knox-for-secure-byod !!!

I agree, I have seen a couple posts where people have gotten lucky. Personally I say root and trip KNOX and forget about it. Sprint has never turned me down for warranty service, rooted or not.

What about SquareTrade warrantees
There is an exploit to root sprint nc5 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 without tripping Knox. It is an apk called towel root. It does other phones as well as sprint note 3. I have not done it myself but some already have done it successfully. Search Xda for it.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157 I don't know if this will work for our phones. I don't know if it's safe, but I thought I'd post it anyways. Read about it originally at androidandme.
Edit: People are reporting it works with the sprint note 3 and doesn't trip Knox.
So far so good
I gave the towel apk a try and I must say an excellent and easy root . I went from slim rom back to nc5 stock uprooted . Down loaded root checker pro then from the stock browser I downloaded the apk file . No problems with my reinstall of twrp. No problems flashing a new rom . Will say that busy box needs to be reinstalled but having no problems at all :good:

Did it reset your Knox counter when you rooted with towelroot? If so, did the counter stay at 0x0 after you reinstalled TWRP? I'm already rooted and using TWRP so the only advantage to me would be to clear that Knox counter.
Well I have never been concerned with knox so I didn't notice an actual 0x0 but I will say all Samsung apps updated. Also I had no warnings on boot . Until flashing a kernel . Unless I've been told wrong that has little to do with my equipment replacement warranty so my thing with knox is solved with a??

I could be wrong, but this is only a root method that does not trip knox. It is not meant to reset knox. It is being marketed as a root method.

Confirmed this method worked on NC5, when I get paid Friday I will be donating to this genius!!

Am I wrong in thinking that rooting isn't what trips KNOX, it's the installing of a custom recovery? I am very excited that this easy root is available and it wont trip KNOX but wont I need a custom recovery in order to flash a custom ROM or anything for that matter. I just want to figure this out before rooting my device.

So if anyone has a link to tell me otherwise i would love to know why Knox is such a concern . i got my note a few weeks after the release and tripped my knox asap .1. if your in contract you most likely have a warranty so bust the sucker into bits and learn a lesson . No updates from sprint or samsung the problem so what !!! i have yet to see an ota compare to the custom roms i run and eventually we will get the update/feature . The absolute only down side i see at this point is most likely the replacement note3 wont have the snapdragon or will it ? sprint usually sends you a refurb . I really ask this honestly I have been flashing for 4 years and barely could chicken peck the keys on my pc when i started . my day to day job is as a master plumber so i never touch computers , but 4 years later and going through an evo, epic 4g touch / briefly a s3 AND A NOTE 3 ON SPRINT NO LESS . I HAVE YET TO SCREW UP MY SAMSUNGS SO BAD THEY TRUELY HARD BRICKED. Im a risk taker I used towel 10 min after i first heard of it . My advice to a total noob is if you think you bricked but it comes on at all its not a brick give it 2 or three days and do your home work most likely a fix will be or is available . If its as sammy from sprint rwilco12 repository is a life saver . Please let me know what IS the trip in tripping knox if any one can and happy flashing. :good:  took me all them years to finally post in the forums lmao
Hi I own my phone and don't have insurance. I would like to root and don't care about the stupid knox counter. Do I have options? And please don't say king root, I have tried all variations of it. Most other 1 click root methods. Thank you
No. Unfortunately we are all in the same boat. I'm assuming you have Android 5.0 and 4.4. Then that will be different.

So no way to flash a rooted rom via odin huh? I hate verizon
Verizon phones difficult to root.
But sprint variants are easy in root and custom recovery.
I just got my note 3 from a 3rd party. Oddly, it had a t-mobile card in it which assuming is a an ability it has, stock.
My phone reports to me that it is infact n900p. It is 0x0 knox and is NOT rooted.
My concerns: a valuable and intelligent, with personal experience with this same phone but differnt carrier, friend, told me that tripping knox not only voids your warrenty, but prohibits you from flashing modem roms ever again.
From my research: rooting my already ok2 base rom,is possible, but no matter what, will trip knox..or is that only on custom roms? Can i enjoy xsposed?
Apparently, this update dropped recently aswell, so am i boned? Will i have no choice but to trip knox?
Is my friend correct about loosing more then my (non existent ) warrenty?
Honestly, if the samsung warrenty is all i am losing, i am in..cuz sprint doesnt care about knox, i already know that from getting replacement, i have tep.
I hate sounding so noobish, been in the scene since my first htc hero, i am not new to this...

You know what I was thinking about the same thing since I just got my SM-N900P the other day from eBay and I rooted it then I put the TWRP recovery. I did a backup of my original stock rom after the rooting process and also I downloaded the stock rom from xda so worse comes to worse anything happens I'm downloading the stockrom and I'll start out fresh.

Well, I will tell you that my knox was tripped within a week of having my phone. I can also tell you that I have used Odin on at least three occasions to reflash stock so I could get the OTA updates, and have had no issues. Only thing to remember for when you flash back in Odin, you have to enter download from completely powered off. Two or three flashes might be necessary, but it can be done.
Just make sure you get the right ROM for the crrier you want to use (you probably already knew that). Hopefully you have your MSL.
So, the only thing to lose is your Samsung warranty...which is probably void anyways with you not being the original purchaser. Just have a copy of the stock ROM for that phone to Odin if you "send it south" by accident.
Your baseband version under device info is your modem version. I was able to successfully update it to ok2 after I flashed back to stock and got the OTA updates.
