Google Wallet Petition - G2 General

Please reshare this and let's get the carriers to open up their networks to allow Google Wallet Tap to Pay
Petition - Sign here PLEASE http://tinyurl.com/kxpxq6f
Isis mobile payment system is a joint venture involving the companies listed above which also includes Discover network and Barclaycard US. Nearly one year after Isis was founded AT&T, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile announced that they will invest more than $100 million dollars in Isis.
Around the time when Isis was founded the only other app that had such tap to pay features was Google Wallet which went by Google Checkout. Google Wallet has been blocked by the majority of carriers since it was released. The carriers would claim that Google Wallet was not secure because of certain technological features which was not true. At the time Verizon announced Isis as a partner they trumped up the same technological features they once dismissed about Google Wallet. At that time many Android phones had the secure element built in and would work properly with Google Wallet tap to pay features but carriers continued their misrepresentation of these functions. They also blocked users from downloading the Google Wallet app from the Google Play Store. Google fought back and released an updated version that allowed users to download the app but tap to pay was not working yet.
In Android 4.4.2 Google is doing the host card emulation where secure element is not part of the equation any longer. This means Google Wallet tap to pay will work on any NFC capable device that was running 4.4.2.
But..
The carriers stepped again and are blocking the service because of their investment in Isis.
Visa, MasterCard and American Express have been in court with each other in the past because of Amex not being allowed to process transactions on the Visa/MasterCard network. In the end Amex received billions in compensation and were allowed on the Visa MasterCard network. Yet, they turn around and pull the same big business crap.
LG, HTC and Samsung are releasing new Android 4.4.2 updates to their top tier devices and will be standard on their recently announced flagship devices. The number of devices that Isis and their partners are blocking must be over 100 million plus devices which equates to end users who are being blocked from the choice of what tap to pay app they choose to use. Instead of choice are only option if we want to use tap to pay is Isis.
This is a blatant violation of anticompetitive behavior. A group of compqnies are blocking their one and only competitor and are creating an environment for a monopoly to take place.
This is no longer about blocking a single feature of an app. We must not have are freedom of choice be taking away on a device we own.
A wide spread of Android 4.4.2 updates is about to be distributed and all the Isis partners are ready to count the profits they will be making from their anticompetitive behavior.
So I , along with everyone who signs this petition ask Isis and all their partners to give us our choice of what app we would like to use.

Me too! What I did was sign up for Isis and got free $25 to use. So used it and then started to customize my ROM and delete app.
Right now I am on International KK ROM on my D800. Tap to pay for wallet is listed in settings and it looks a like it should work. I am dying to get to CVS to see if it does. I tried a few days ago and did not work. Yesterday I went to CVS while I had CM on phone which I usually do and noticed the terminal I tested with the other day was broken. So I am going back in a couple of hours with international KK ROM to see if wallet actually does work.

If you are on AT&T or have D800 and want to use Google Wallet then head over to the AT&T Dev section and look for my PowerUser ROM.

I would love to see more options for Google Wallet. I think its silly that some carriers restrict it.

I've never used this feature but I signed it for you @AndroidUser00110001 its the least I can do for all the hard work you put in. Maybe one day I will take advantage of this feature

Problems...

So, I upgraded from my Skyrocket to a Note today. So far, the phone is great, except for a couple of strange problems with Google Market/Play. First problem is I am unable to bill any purchases to my AT&T account. The option is no longer there. Secondly, all of "my apps", the apps I previously paid for are requiring me to repurchase all my apps. I've never seen this before. Hopefully, somebody can help me.
Thanks

Did you use the same Gmail account to set up the note?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA App
Yes, I only have one account.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA Premium App
Can't help you about the apps, but my Note allows me to bill to AT&T bill.
I would check and double check your synching accounts. I constantly switch back and forth between the Note and Skyrocket and all of my purchases are available across the devices.
I can also bill to account on both. Check your Google account online too, see if you can find your Note registered there too.
Good luck!
Problem soved. I was able to fix the "my apps" issue by clearing cache and data on Market. Apps are now able to download withoit having to pay again. Now if I could just get my purchases to bill to my at&t account.
Thanks to everyone who offered advice!

Not exactly the same issue, but when I went to buy an app recently, I was unable to add my a Mastercard to my Google Wallet. I had all the info correct (checked several times) yet it said it was an 'Invalid Payment Instrument'.

Thought I'd share this with you. I figured out how to fix the "re-charge" issue. I went into settings/applications/google play, then I cleared cache and data. I fired up play and everything was back to normal.

I'm glad its working for you. This BS started when I got a Skyrocket. When I upgraded to a white Note, I was hoping the issue would resolve; but it did not. Doesn't help when you have "radio shack" level AT&T reps misinforming you (more common than one might think). I've also called AT&T Tech, and that exoerience can aptly be categorized as painful, to say the least. A month and a half and still no resolution. WTG, AT&T!

Come on now, sales people SELL products, they dont troubleshoot products. They cant be expected to know EVERY issue with EVERY product they have in the store. Years ago, this was a much different story when products were much less complex than they are today.
Its like a car salesman, you drive your car into the lot and a sales person approaches and asks you what the problem is, you tell him there is something wrong with the car and 99 out of a 100, the sales guy is going to send you to the on-site mechanic. The sales guy isnt going to fix the problem.
I know its super frustrating, I sometimes have the same feeling about sales reps but then I have to take a step back from the situation.

Carrier Billing
Overview
For supported mobile networks, you have the option to purchase Android apps on Google Play using direct carrier billing. Purchases made using direct carrier billing will be posted directly to your mobile billing account after the 15-minute return period expires.
Please note, at this time direct carrier billing is only available as an accepted payment method for applications sold in your country's local currency. In addition, direct carrier billing is not available for purchases made on the Google Play website.
Direct carrier billing is not available on all Android devices or service plans. For more details, please contact your mobile service provider.
Making purchases with direct carrier billing
To make a purchase using direct carrier billing, follow the steps below:
Locate the application you would like to purchase and click Buy.
Select the option to bill your mobile account.
Click OK.
Review your address information and make any necessary corrections.
Click OK.
Click Buy Now.
Direct carrier billing cancellations
Direct carrier billing purchases that do not receive a successful authorization from your mobile provider will be immediately cancelled. Directly after the order is cancelled, you will receive an order cancellation email from Google Wallet. For more information about the reason for the failed authorization, please contact your mobile service provider.
After you receive the cancellation email from Google Wallet, you can reattempt your purchase using direct carrier billing by following the steps below:
Navigate to the application on your Android device.
Click Retry.
If your order does not receive a successful authorization, click Cancel.
Click Buy to retry your purchase using a different accepted payment method.

Pay special attention to the top section, these might indicate a restriction you are having.
If nothing else, call ATT customer support, while these guys arent a huge help either, they are more equipped to help with your problem than the sales guys are.
One other note (no pun intended), go to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications and tap the 'All' tab at the top. Scroll to Google Play Store and tap it. At the very top, just under the name of the app is a version number. This should be showing 3.5.16. If it isnt, tap force stop (if available) and then tap clear data and then clear cache (if available). Then hit your home button and relaunch the market. This should force the market to update and address the issue regarding previously purchased apps from not appearing correctly (the market was recently updated to correct this very issue).

kk, yea, I thought you said you went in to the store.
Best of luck to ya, if you have trouble getting purchases added you your att bill, you could always try a pre-paid credit card. Given the amount of data that Google sells as marketing data, I wouldnt be surprised if my credit card number was also being sold. I understand the precautions.

Since no one had responded yet, I went ahead and called Wallet support, which transferred me to the Money Network mobile purchases team (or whatever), and they confirmed that the Google Prepaid Card cannot be used for Google Play purchases.
I didn't ask specifics, so maybe she was only referring to this preloaded cash that Google provided, but looking at my account (only the preloaded Prepaid Card; no additional cards tied to the account), she determined that I couldn't use it to buy apps. I assume there must be some way you can use the Google Prepaid Card to make purchases from the store; otherwise, anyone without a Citi Mastercard or direct carrier billing would be out of luck, no? In any event, I was told that I couldn't.

NFC payments in UK

Is there any application I can use in the UK to pay via nfc. If not is there any unofficial way I can install an nfc payment app?

Google wanted Wallet in a European city by the first half of 2012. That's not happened. Note that they only stated a European city, so, like I said, it's very possible that we won't see Wallet in the UK during 2012.
Furthermore, an article here shows that Google are moving very slowly with Wallet. They've openly stated that European banks are faster moving than American ones, yet the service is still US-only.
Google is not a company that is known for fast international rollout of services. I'd advise against waiting for Google, as it's almost certain that domestic services will launch before Wallet. It's annoying when you consider that the UK is a much better market for NFC payments than the US, but that's how Google works.
Rumours are still abound

I wouldn't be surprised if Google says they're giving up on Google Wallet here in the UK, even though all they have to do is flick a switch to allow it here with pre-paid cards. All the technology is in place, and I've used it with my old Nexus S at the golden arches near here.
I didn't know Visa was actually going to be releasing their own app this year though, this is certainly interesting to hear. Has anyone seen the .apk for this in the wild yet, I'm really itching to give it a go!

It's all about the brand tie-ins at the moment.
I'm beginning to think that the first to do it will be Barclays - seems like a reasonable extension of their current Pingit app and contactless cards, and they are usually the first of the banks off the blocks with new tech. They've got some really solid well designed apps on the Play Store for their customers.

Has anyone tried changing the country to american in wallet account? Luckily i have a flat in America but i think it's fraud if you don't, so it might not be a good idea. Plus with the new credit and debit card options, you don't need a Google Prepay card for it to work, however, some people are saying that their virtual cards are denied. Any ideas?
Just seen a TV advert for a Visa app launching Dec 2013 for "compatible handsets".
Time will tell whether it's another false promise / not.

Is Verizon Serious

Okay so I'm just curious, what in gods name was Verizon thinking with this Latino based store. Which to me seems like a Verizon store with a play place. I think I understand where that thirty dollar phone activation fee is going to. They were making a big deal about this press event only to unveil a J-LO themed store? Not a new phone, or new pay plans, or anything important or interesting. Am I the only one who is just kinda wowed by this?

If you read this whole thing, you'll see that Verizon doesn't own the stores. They are just doing business with them. The stores are Viva Movil.
LAS VEGAS — Jennifer Lopez unexpectedly took the stage at a Verizon Wireless press conference Wednesday to talk about Latinos and wireless service.
“As modern Latinos we do things differently, including how we shop for mobile devices,” said Lopez.
With that in mind, she's launching Viva Movil, a new wireless store and online presence designed specifically for the Latino community. Lopez will serve as the Chief Creative Officer for the company and is also the majority shareholder.
Verizon will be the exclusive wireless provider for Viva Movil, but it does not own a portion of the company.
SEE ALSO: Jennifer Lopez to Premiere Music Video on Twitter
“Latinos love social networks and we’re super active online,” Lopez said, noting that Latinos spend an average of 1.5 hours more online than non-Latinos, and they enjoy sharing their online purchases with friends.
Viva Movil customers will be able to make purchases on Facebook. On both Lopez’s and Viva Movil’s Facebook page, customers will be able to select a device to buy and Verizon wireless plan and make a purchase. The company will have an online store presence as well.
Plans will be the same Verizon wireless plans and pricing currently available in existing Verizon Wireless stores.
Viva Movil will also have special retail stores designed specifically for Latino customers. Stores will feature an entirely bilingual staff and will offer play areas for children who accompany parents to the store.
The first store will open on June 15 in “a busy New York intersection." The specific location wasn’t named, but Lopez drew a square in the air — so Times Square is probably a good bet.
Stores are also expected to roll out in other big cities, such as Miami and Los Angeles, later this year.
You know what I learned from this? J-Lo don't know how to spell. It's MOBILE lady!

Google wallet works with any terminal that allows pay pass or whatever it's called plus allows you to add ALOT more cards to use , opposed to the what..2-3 cards allowed with Isis.
Plus I don't believe you need a special secure element built into a sim to use it . I know on ATT and Verizon purposely gimped a lot of phones to force people to use Isis while blocking people from using wallet by either having the secure element removed or completely shut off..a very shady way to do things IMO
https://www.paywithisis.com
Seems the money Isis pays is for friend referrals..10.00 per each friend you sign up..but if you don't have a Wells Fargo, chase, or American Express card..it's useless..MasterCard and visa plus numerous other banks aren't accepted with it I believe
Isis is carrier only,AT&T,Verizon,Tmobile I believe, Google wallet is worldwide...
Other getting a one time $50 credit for opening a card with them Isis is pointless and refuse to use the app, specially cause its ugly.

Even when I told him that I didn't need my credit record dinged by opening up an Amex card, he finally "caved in" by saying that it can be done later on, and begged me to do it as soon as possible. That "soon" will be never, because a short time later, I stuck on a GPE ROM that didn't have ISIS present on the device.
From what I've seen, not having ISIS isn't missing much. I don't like the fact that one has to open up a new line of credit. Nor that I have to use a root-hostile app. Google Wallet or Paypal do the same thing and I can use my existing cards/accounts, and I don't need a special SIM card.
To each their own obviously there is a need for it to work with developer build for folks that do already have and use it and had purchased the phone. Personally I don't use it or Google Wallet, but I did this for those who do...

That makes sense. Maybe the fact that it was so strongly pushed when buying the device gave a bad first impression.

You can download the app right from the play store. Just have to have the right sim. I tried on my GF's note 2 but the sim wasn't compatible. Just download it from the Play Store. Don't see why you wouldn't take advantage of a free $50 bucks of Gas, food, merchandise. You don't have to ever use it again. :good:
its blocked on playstore for a non branded device and will not install on the m8

Google wallet you could use your own credit card through nfc where Isis you have to use their credit card, that's the only difference between the apps.

Actually, the difference is HUGE. Google Wallet takes the transaction and tries to authorize a purchase to your designated credit card. Google Wallet does not look or behave like your designated card. Transactions first go to google's servers, then google servers try to authorize the amount against your preferred card and if approved then approves the transaction. Google retains the information for the transaction. This is useless for me since on my statement all my Google Wallet transactions show up as Google transactions.
ISIS, on the other hand, actually emulates your selected card. All transaction data is passed thru just as if you used your card. Since it's emulating your card, merchant details will show up on your statement, not "Google". Google Wallet is useless for many many business travelers that submit expense reports via statements... myself included.
went to pick up my new M8 with the ATT store, and got the same nag about ISIS. The SIM is compatible, and ISIS was installed, and they offer $50 credit on it. Since I knew I will root the phone and it will die anyhow, I said yes, and immediately bought screen protector and other stuff for a total of $45 , actually not paying a dime..
Cane home, unlocked boot , S-OFF and rooted the phone. ISIS does not work now even with the Xposed root bypass (I suspect the HW on the new SIM is lower level binary than xposed is), but I don;t care as I have Wallet installed and working fine. Anyhow it works exactly at the same places in the US, plus in Europe..
Over all- Say yes for the ATT rep, and get $50 free stuff in the store right away.. I don't see how this is affecting credit score as this is not a credit line, but a prepaid e-wallet..

Hmmm...I just unlocked, rooted and S-OFF'd my brand-new M8 over the weekend and loaded the latest ViperOne M8 ROM on it tonight; coming from the purposely gimped AT&T Galaxy S4, my modded M8 looks, runs, and sounds great, just like I want.
After using the latest Xposed ISIS root check bypass, I was able to get ISIS running just fine, signed up for it and Serve, and got my $50 credit (I didn't want to sign up in the store, because I wanted to get some more info on it first). Even if ISIS decides to stop working, the physical card should be here in a few days; the plus side to that is I'll be able to use that $50 anywhere that takes AMEX, even places without NFC terminals or at online stores, such as Amazon and Newegg.
"Free" money is always nice; it almost makes up for the taxes that I paid on the phone when I got it Friday.

Furthermore, at least it is my understanding, that since all of your purchases are funneling through Google, you won't get reward points on your credit cards for specific category purchases, and might not get them at all for the "everything else" category. For me, reward points and building credit are the whole purpose of me even using credit cards, so that's a huge red mark for Google Wallet.
This is how Google manages to support so many cards BTW. It's because they just make a "Google" purchase transaction on your card and then finance your purchase with Google Bucks. That may work for some, but it defeats the purpose for many, and at the very least, makes it difficult to track all your transactions.
To be fair, a lot of this is because AT&T is blocking Google from getting the appropriate contracts with CC companies, it's not like Google doesn't want to have the same type of service ISIS offers.
EDIT: I looked in to it further, and the other concern is that you would not get your credit card benefits either -- So kiss additional insurance, return protection, travel assurance, etc all goodbye. I wish that Google Wallet were what we all want it to be, but their current system is flawed.
Im just gonna toss tis out there, the Amex card you start with Isis is a prepayed card. It is NOT a hit on your credit at all. I like it as I then have a actual plastic card for it as well and if my son is going on a school trip, or scout function or heck even mothers day, I simply handed the card to him and he can use what money I put on it.
As for google wallet, I like it for gas purchases. I have my ATM card on it and use that at the pump. sometimes. but mainly NFC isnt nearly as prevalent around me to make either of these apps worth much to me.
Oh and with rootcloak in exposed installer Isis is working on my rooted S-Off'd M8 runing SkyFall from iBastid....
