So, I upgraded from my Skyrocket to a Note today. So far, the phone is great, except for a couple of strange problems with Google Market/Play. First problem is I am unable to bill any purchases to my AT&T account. The option is no longer there. Secondly, all of "my apps", the apps I previously paid for are requiring me to repurchase all my apps. I've never seen this before. Hopefully, somebody can help me.
Thanks

Yes, I only have one account.

Can't help you about the apps, but my Note allows me to bill to AT&T bill.
I would check and double check your synching accounts. I constantly switch back and forth between the Note and Skyrocket and all of my purchases are available across the devices.
I can also bill to account on both. Check your Google account online too, see if you can find your Note registered there too.
Good luck!
Problem soved. I was able to fix the "my apps" issue by clearing cache and data on Market. Apps are now able to download withoit having to pay again. Now if I could just get my purchases to bill to my at&t account.
Thanks to everyone who offered advice!

Not exactly the same issue, but when I went to buy an app recently, I was unable to add my a Mastercard to my Google Wallet. I had all the info correct (checked several times) yet it said it was an 'Invalid Payment Instrument'.

I'm having the same issue with being "re-charged" for apps I've paid for. I'll try clearing cache/data as well.
google play does not allow you to charge to your bill.... i read it in other threads here.

Thought I'd share this with you. I figured out how to fix the "re-charge" issue. I went into settings/applications/google play, then I cleared cache and data. I fired up play and everything was back to normal.

I'm glad its working for you. This BS started when I got a Skyrocket. When I upgraded to a white Note, I was hoping the issue would resolve; but it did not. Doesn't help when you have "radio shack" level AT&T reps misinforming you (more common than one might think). I've also called AT&T Tech, and that exoerience can aptly be categorized as painful, to say the least. A month and a half and still no resolution. WTG, AT&T!

Come on now, sales people SELL products, they dont troubleshoot products. They cant be expected to know EVERY issue with EVERY product they have in the store. Years ago, this was a much different story when products were much less complex than they are today.
Its like a car salesman, you drive your car into the lot and a sales person approaches and asks you what the problem is, you tell him there is something wrong with the car and 99 out of a 100, the sales guy is going to send you to the on-site mechanic. The sales guy isnt going to fix the problem.
I know its super frustrating, I sometimes have the same feeling about sales reps but then I have to take a step back from the situation.

Carrier Billing
Overview
For supported mobile networks, you have the option to purchase Android apps on Google Play using direct carrier billing. Purchases made using direct carrier billing will be posted directly to your mobile billing account after the 15-minute return period expires.
Please note, at this time direct carrier billing is only available as an accepted payment method for applications sold in your country's local currency. In addition, direct carrier billing is not available for purchases made on the Google Play website.
Direct carrier billing is not available on all Android devices or service plans. For more details, please contact your mobile service provider.
Making purchases with direct carrier billing
To make a purchase using direct carrier billing, follow the steps below:
Locate the application you would like to purchase and click Buy.
Select the option to bill your mobile account.
Click OK.
Review your address information and make any necessary corrections.
Click OK.
Click Buy Now.
Direct carrier billing cancellations
Direct carrier billing purchases that do not receive a successful authorization from your mobile provider will be immediately cancelled. Directly after the order is cancelled, you will receive an order cancellation email from Google Wallet. For more information about the reason for the failed authorization, please contact your mobile service provider.
After you receive the cancellation email from Google Wallet, you can reattempt your purchase using direct carrier billing by following the steps below:
Navigate to the application on your Android device.
Click Retry.
If your order does not receive a successful authorization, click Cancel.
Click Buy to retry your purchase using a different accepted payment method.

Pay special attention to the top section, these might indicate a restriction you are having.
If nothing else, call ATT customer support, while these guys arent a huge help either, they are more equipped to help with your problem than the sales guys are.
One other note (no pun intended), go to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications and tap the 'All' tab at the top. Scroll to Google Play Store and tap it. At the very top, just under the name of the app is a version number. This should be showing 3.5.16. If it isnt, tap force stop (if available) and then tap clear data and then clear cache (if available). Then hit your home button and relaunch the market. This should force the market to update and address the issue regarding previously purchased apps from not appearing correctly (the market was recently updated to correct this very issue).

When I called AT&T, it was wasn't a saleperson, but a tech support agent. I really appreciate your effort here. Best of luck to ya, if you have trouble getting purchases added you your att bill, you could always try a pre-paid credit card. Given the amount of data that Google sells as marketing data, I wouldnt be surprised if my credit card number was also being sold. I understand the precautions.

Hi,
I will be getting trading my Droid X for an HTC Thunderbolt on Saturday morning and I will be meeting the other person at a Verizon store. When I am at the Verizon store does it matter which one of my parents I bring? My mom manages our Verizon account, while my dad pays the rest of the bills. Since my mom is Account Manager, does that mean the only way I could do the trade would to have her be in the store with me? Or could I bring my dad in and still do the trade and swap my number to the Thunderbolt with no problems? My plan will be staying the same and nothing will be changing, but I just don't want to drive to a Verizon store that's an hour away to meet someone to do a trade only to find out that I am not able to because I didn't bring the right parent with me.
Other info that might be helpful: My dad knows all our Verizon information... passwords, billing password, all that stuff... most of the Verizon information is actually linked to my dad's business, but my mom still manages it and pays the bill.
So, to shorten things up, basically what I'm asking is, can I bring my dad into the Verizon store with me, and swap phones with someone from Craigslist, even though he isn't the account manager?
Thanks in advance!
You need to bring whoever has their name on the account, because they would need to be the ones to sign the contract (even though your plan won't change, you still have to renew the contract to get the subsidized price for the phone). I assume it would be your mom if she is the one who handles the account.

Hmm, well, I had an upgrade available in November 2010 and upgraded to a Droid X and I had brought my dad along with me and it seemed to work out fine and I was able to upgrade to the X with no problems, hell, I even did it at Walmart to get a discounted price (free). I think I'm going to call Verizon tomorrow for further clarification, but to anyone who has information on this, please post as it would help me immensely.

Since he is trading somebody for the phone I don't think there would be a contract change needed...
Whoever's name is on the account would need to be there. However if your mom is listed as an account manager in Verizon's system then it should be fine for her to go. Ultimately you could call 611 and they might be able to tell you for sure.

As long as your father knows the security code set up on the account he should be able to do ANYTHING on the account, short of closing it. At least, that's the way it has been explained to me in the past.

Yeah but I'm assuming he's doing it at the Verizon store so the person he's getting the phone from can't report the phone as stolen later on and have it deactivated.
Anybody else have this problem? Recently, my phone stopped showing the City and State of incoming and outgoing calls. It was a very minor feature, but it was nice to know who was calling me from where since everybody in college has a different area code than mine.
i belive that was your trial of "city ID" program, preloaded onto your phone by AT&T.

cityID was a 2-week trial. You should've gotten popups notifying you of that fact.

You can get the APK from truecaller.com from your phones browser
I quickly switched to a free app to do that job. I'm using Mr. Number at the moment. I have no complaints with it. When a new number calls me, the app checks everyone else's contact list to come up with the caller's name. when my dentist called, the name that someone else used on their contact list showed up in the notification.

I'd be really worried if that's the case. Check your AT&T bill carefully. You may accidentally accepted the subscription and start paying for the service with a monthly fee.

It seems as its not free, just a 7-day trial then you pay $6.99 one time fee to continue using it for certain countries (US is one of them)
Here is a snippet fromtheir terms of use page
Users in the following countries will need to purchase the application for continued use after the 7-days trial period is over:
Canada Denmark Italy Norway Sweden United States Austria
Users in other countries will until further notice be able to use the application 100% FREE OF CHARGE (except for any data traffic costs from your operator). A user license to TrueCaller costs $6,99 (ONE TIME FEE) and entitles the holder a non-transferable, non-exclusive and unlimited term right to use the application on the device downloaded to without any further subscription fee, or any other purchases needed.

I jinxed it! I got the phone on the 6th but TODAY the CityID popup appeared. So maybe it's a 22 day trial. ;-) Anyway, certainly wasn't 2 weeks, at least not here. I made sure to click NO.
I actually went ahead and signed up for it. $2/month and now I know who the hell is calling. I know overall the TrueCall thing would be cheaper, but its integration on the calling screen just isn't as slick.
Also, I used a jig after I rooted, so I got like a full month for free!

* it only pops up when you receive a call.
* if you ignore or press cancel or back button, it will go on in trial mode for a few more days.
Mine poped up on the first call on the day 14.
I thought of that but I looked and I'd taken numerous calls over the last few days.
Hmmm....does the trial begin when the phone is first put into service or when the first incoming call is accepted? That's it -- looking back I didn't answer my first call until 10/14. All the rest I let go to VM.
Mystery solved, 14 days it is.
u guys might love me for this not sure but look what i found!! city id for free lol
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=704548
Yesterday after I finished a phone call (I was driving) and hung up, I received a screen that was in all white with an ok button at the bottom that said something about a 10-day trial for city.
I didnt have a chance to read this as I hit the ok button thinking that I was going to be hitting the apps icon (I didnt expect this to pop up).
So, what is this? Am I automatically going to be charged after ten days? Do I need to call ATT to cancel this thing?
Thanks in advance...
*sigh* Im getting so pissed off at these ploys to try and get more money out of me. There are alot of free apps that will do this (or one time purchases) and why I would need to pay a service fee for this feature is beyond me.
Its an app that lets you try it for free for 10 days after that it will let you decide if you want to buy it or not
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
If you find it useful (which I sort of do), just clear data every 10 days and you'll have an infinite trial. It doesn't automatically charge you, so there's no risk of keeping it.
The app shows what city an incoming call is coming from. Really only useful for unidentified numbers, but still pretty useless to pay for. If you clear data every ten days, I suppose it would be ok to have, but idk if it's even worth that much hassle.

City ID is not just an app that you pay once. It's a monthly subscription service. If you didn't opt out after trial ended, you will be charged every month.

You'll see the charge on your AT&T bill. Not sure if this would happen to users on T-Mobile or other carriers.
Yes. It happened to me on my prior AT&T Android phone. What a scam!
I called AT&T after I saw the charge last year and they removed it and future charges. But what a hassle...I really can't believe a company like AT&T that tries to be professional allows that type of software.
Seems like the media complains about every other scam...why not this??
oh well.
Just make sure to check your AT&T bill.
This happened to me today..got the pop up but backed out of it. damn. I iked it when i first got the phone. No idea you had to pay!! I did however look in the mkt and i saw one that said no monthly fees......?
Almost all the bloatwae AT&T put on the phone require monthly subscription. A one time purchase doesn't warrant AT&T's trouble to put onto your phone.
All carriers do this.
This is one of the first apps I froze when I rooted my Note..
Lovely, yet another thing I need to look for... *sigh*.
Luckily, most of the bloatware is uninstallable without root so I have uninstalled alot of it. To my knowledge, the only thing left on my phone that costs is ATT Navigation (and this hidden CityID thing) which I was able to use Go Launcher to hide the app.
Hi,
just want to check, if I freeze this app using Titanium Backup within 10 days, I won't get a bill? or I need to call ATT for a cancellation? Thanks.

If you never see a prompt from City ID ask for you to continue using it, you are fine. You don't even need to freeze or uninstall it if you want. Just make sure you said 'NO' to the message box and it will go away.
I won a Galaxy Note and a snazzy prize from Samsung's The Party Continues sweepstake.
Now the paper I signed and sent in to the sweepstakes company says 'No service is provided.' I also had an option to get a $299 check.
So I assume it is the same as walking into an AT&t store and plunking down $299 for a Note.
Question is, do I need to sign my soul over to AT&T for two more years to be able to use the phone?
The AT&T salesperson at the store seemed to think I did not have to sign a contract and could use it as a tablet on wifi.
Thanks for any help .

I would think that the no service provided just means you own just the handset and no service. You need to get a contact with att if you want to use it or maybe tmobile if you want.

The AT&T salesperson at the store seemed to think I did not have to sign a contract and could use it as a tablet on wifi.
Thanks for any help .

I may just have to check this out... $5 a month! Not bad
I called them this morning...
I am already with T-mobile and called them this morning with a load of questions.
Their call centers were briefed on the Gear S just yesterday. As far as they know, the Gear S can not be pre-ordered, as it is considered an accessory. I did register to purchase, though, but did not receive a confirmation of any kind. The call centers are very new to the product and training is still ongoing, so if you reach out, take what they say with a grain of salt.
Even if they don't know all the details just yet, I would rather it is announced with a date as opposed to waiting around another week for their staff to be trained properly
I really want this watch and that rate plan is a good deal. Now the only thing left is the gear vr.

Agreed same thing the other carriers have said about the accessory part but last I checked we are not paying a data plan to listen to our music via bluetooth headphones which are true accessories. This gear S is a mini phone with a mini plan.
T-mobile plan to have it available Nov 9th not sure what the offical launch days are with t-mobile but it doesn't sound like they are Sunday so indeed they don't really care about this launch

Yeah, I went down to the T-Mobile store and asked to get a call as soon as it came in! They look awesome!
I am very interested in buying this thing (two of them actually) wondering if anyone has asked or knows: Will it get it's own number or can they link it to your current number? I just don't think it'll be real useful to txt and call with a diff number than your phone. Also, anybody have any idea if this will work with note 2 (wife still using N2). Thanks!

Yes it works on Samsung galaxy S3 and up. If you have T-mobile/AT&T you can use your number from the phone. You forward your calls when you want to leave the phone at home
Which one are YOU getting...? Black or white?

T-Mo Gear S
Got mine today!
FYI. Not many T-Mobile employees are knowledgeable on the accessory rollouts. (Prepare to know more than them)
I went into a T-mo store today to inquire about the Nov. 9th release, and see if it was possible to get it early. The rep didn't know anything about it, nor did his manager. After some insistence from me, they checked the T-Mo community & confirmed my info, but still didn't know when they would get it. All they said was "we don't get deliveries on Sundays, we'll call you Monday if we get some in". Frustrated, but not defeated, I went home did a little more research, called another T-mo location. Not only did they know what I was talking about, they had it in stock & would sell it to me today. 15 minutes later...Got it!!!
If at first you don't succeed... :good:

Bought it & tied it to the $5 plan. They REALLY tried to get me to go with the $15\mo. plan, almost making it seem mandatory. ($15 plan includes insurance)
"I don't need no stinkin' insurance!!!"

Can you clarify the question asked? Do we need a previous T-Mobile plan? Online it only lets us chose $5 plan if we have already a Simply Choice line with T-Mobile. And only option is $15 a month plan if no T-Mobile. Are you saying if we go to store we can get the $5 plan even without another Simply Choice line?
Just got one from my local tmobile store.

Every T-mobile store here in Milwaukee said they didn't have it. There was one that said they might get a shipment sometime during this week.

I believe I answered the original question quite clearly. I'll give yours a try though...
Disclaimer:
I can only speak of my experience & the questions that I brought up\answers received.
I am already a T-Mobile account holder (Simple Choice Plan). I'd read about the $5/mo. plan online, and when the rep in the store said $15/mo., I was slightly confused. (then came the questions)
The rep seemed confused and was really pushing the $15 plan as if that was the only option, after a lot of back & forth, he admitted that I didn't have to get that plan if buying the watch outright. (I didn't have to get any plan)
They said it's like setting up another line. The watch will even has its own phone number. (more than likely works by "re-routing" calls to your "phone's" number when applicable & vice-versa)
To the best of my knowledge;
If you ARE currently a "T-Mobiler", and you buy it outright, and don't want the "standalone" mobile network features, you don't need to select a plan at all.
If you ARE currently a "T-Mobiler", and you buy it outright, and want the "standalone" mobile network features, you select the $5 plan.(what I did)
If you ARE currently a "T-Mobiler", and you choose the "payment plan" option, you must select the $15 option. (payment plan devices MUST be insured, like the JUMP program)
If you are NOT a "T-Mobiler", and you buy it outright, but want the "standalone" mobile networkfeatures of the watch (not just the "watch -> phone Bluetooth connection" option), you have to get the $15 plan.
**After purchasing the watch, you have up to 14 days to add the "protection plan" to it. ($10/mo I guess)
I can't tell you much about "non" account holder info, as I am a "T-Mobiler".
Hope that helps.
