Android System usage since kit kat update - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I have noted since the 4.4.2 upgrade on my note 3 that android system has been using up about 30% of the battery. When on 4.3 it wasn't using up more than 15% at the max. I have looked in to it and it seems it's an issue on kit kat. I was wondering if anyone else has had that problem. I have read about battery monitoring apps such as wakelock but do you have to be rooted to use it? I would appreciate the help

I'm sitting at the same as in 4.3. Gotta give it time.
Many here have been running KitKat for weeks, and can assert that way you're experiencing is both temporal and nothing inordinately troublesome.

Thank you cause I had noticed it as a problem with kit kat since I updated it from 4.3 and thought it was my phone

Would be nice if they made some way for us to roll back to MI1... I've noticed less stable wifi, as well as she chews through battery at almost double the rate of 4.2.2. Should have waited to update, newer isn't always better. I think my 4G is more powerful now though.
That's for AT&T version. Not sure how much is different compared to verizon version.

hmm interesting. I actually just got my S4 coming from my S3. Battery life is a decent bit better than my S3. But I haven't had any issues with it so far.
My Verizon S4 4.3 has been running fine. No problems with WiFi or battery life. Maybe Verizon did something right when they agreed to have 4.3 released.
My battery life sucks since the update. Another thing I noticed is my data use has been a lot higher and I haven't done anything different. I got a text last week that I'm at 90% of my usage...I have never even gone over 75% before.

I have noticed an increase in data usage since the upgrade also
I haven't noticed any specific issues, but I am with everyone else on the data usage. I have used a surprising amount of mine. I do wish that exterior development was a little more supported by the companies :/
Via Betterbatstats app I am draining at 3.1% after 4.3 update,
Not really that bad for me.

I'm noticing a lot of wi-fi issues on my work connection which has a weak signal. I've gone from being able to connect (with frequent drop-outs) to not being able to get a stable connection at all. Really wishing I wouldn't have taken the update.
I saw a website last night on the pulling of the 4.3 update. It seems almost every carrier is affected by these bugs. There is a list of issues that the site posted...blank black screen...WiFi issues...music player launching...Verizon car charger not working. The ones I've noticed are battery life...Verizon car charger...phone going between eG and 4G a lot more often. Here is the site I found this all from.
http://www.androidpit.com/android-4-3-update-s4-problems
I've also notice a issue where my Samsung charger while charging my phone said to use the OEM charger for better charging performance..I think the update has a bug that is causing the charging port to report false indications or not work at all (Verizon car charger). Dunno but it looks like were stuck with it until VZW or Samsung pushes a update with fixes.

I'm rooted on MI1 and froze OTA updates, so am happy not to be a test bed. Wife's S4, unrooted, had the 4.3 update pushed onto her phone over the weekend but I haven't heard any complaints from her...so far.
I'm happy to let the dust settle before taking the update plunge!

Huh, here I thought it was due to my tinkering. But since 4.3, I've had the battery drainage and charger issue along with terrible performance. Even before this disaster, I was getting tired of the weak vibration and ringtone, and slow performance. Its loaded with so much crap that it can barley do its core functions. I'm so turned off that I've been actively looking for alternative. Hell, blackberry is starting to look good.
I can go about a day and a half to two days of if I'm not using my phone much... I haven't noticed that that's any difference from pre mj7

Help! Battery draining fast [ 4.3 stock rooted ]

Hello everybody, I need help with my draining battery of SGS3 I9300.
Before updating to 4.3 OTA official, the battery lasted a day of normal to heavy use, ~ 3 hours screen on time, but now I barely get 1-2 hours.
If I unplug my phone at 12PM, by 7AM when I wake up it is already 88%(no gps wifi bt vibration or data+ power saving on) If I use it I can see it draining in front of my eyes while just web browsing for 10 minutes it goes down like 4-5%.
I never keep gps bt wifi or data on, just when I need it and screen timeout is 15sec and brightness is auto 0.
Power saving does not do anything helpful.
Here's the usage for a regular day.
as what others says,, 4.3 eats alot of battery compared to 4,1 .. you may think of having a custom rom with tweaks that saves battery...
You could try installing a program to watch for wakelocks if you have rooted phone. Then you can observe what wakes your phone up Especially if you say its like 12% at night.
Try wakelock detector to see battery draining apps or just flash a custom rom.

Have you flash any stock firmware? In that case, it's possible that the drain comes from new firmware ....
Just buy a 4300 mah battery

I have not.
I have disabled several apps via Greenify, here's a wakelock screenshot afterwards.
Anything unusual ?
Try factory reset and see if it helps.
How old is your battery?
1. Disable unused applications (Mostly Samsung Bloaatware).
2. Greenify your applications.
3. Use Boeffla Kernel, with JustArchi's Ultra_PowerSave preset.
4. Try to use dark wallpapers.
Try Archidroid 1.7.16 rom.. It's excellent

Doubt it.
Those OTA can perform quite a number on your phone. Best way is to check for apps that are draining the battery and maybe perform a clean installation, disabling those crappy OTA updates.

[Q] HELP NEEDED. Battery problems

My galaxy s3 i9300 is draining the battery fast.
It hardly last for 5-6 hours on standby.
At first I thought it was jelly bean 4.3 that caused the problem, so I removed 4.3 and installed 4.0.4 but the problem remains.
Then I figured the battery must be problematic so I bought a new one, follow the instructions on how to handle new batteries but still it drains it fast.
It drains it with 4.0.4 and with 4.3.
No apps are running in the backround, it drains it on a fresh installation of the OS.
I really don't know what else to try.
Can any one give some help or pointers?
Regards
Hundreds of identical threads, search and read for more information.
If you are running stock firmware then you have many apps running during standby, disable or remove all Samsung apps and greenify the rest.

Horrible battery after lollipop OTA

So the wife took the lollipop OTA... Since then she says her battery life is incredibly horrible. After only one hour of normal use it went from 100% to 35%
The biggest problem I'm having is figuring out what I can do. Typically I'd have rooted the phone, flashed a ROM & never worried about OTA. With that being said, she doesn't want her phone modified whatsoever. She wants it left completely 100% stock...
Anything I can do?

Verizon says ...
The Verizon info about the update, mentions that it may take several days for the new release to properly calibrate battery usage: http://www.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/instructions-lg-g3-4-14-15.pdf
Battery life expectations post a major OS upgrade:
The application memory areas may have to be optimized. This can take time and cause the device to temporarily use more battery while the optimization is in progress.
It can take time for the new software to optimize its performance and for the device’s battery life to normalize, which generally takes 2- 3 days.
Downloaded applications may not be optimized for the new OS version as application developers do not immediately update their applications to support new versions of the OS. This may result is higher than normal battery drain and in some cases device sluggishness until the application is updated or removed.
download greenify, works with not rooted phone too.
I was hoping to not use an app for it lol.
But I talked her into letting me root it so I'll just be doing that tomorrow.

Lenovo tab2 lollipop is awful

I picked up a tab 2 recently and I like it a lot. But I recently upgraded to their official lollipop and the results have been sub par. The WiFi keeps disconnecting. The performance seems slower. Is there any way I can flash the older official KitKat rom instead? If not is there another tablet someone would recommend because I'm thinking of returning this one based on the recent update alone.

I had this same problem, along with other issues. Although I watched the update download and install successfully, I decided to try a reload. I charged the tablet first, then connected it to a USB port to ensure trickle power kept it going, and performed a FULL factory restore. It restored the newest version (Update A10-70F to S000118_150710_ROW), and after 2 days of continuous use, I am happy to say that disconnects and other issues are solved. Except the battery recharge seems to take forever . . .
Although I did not save the update, I do have the 3 previous versions available.

Slow Rechaarge
Follow-up to earlier comment about slow recharge times.
I just checked all my cables with a meter. No problems there. Now to check the outputs of the factory and 3rd-party chargers:
1. MusicPower (Apple Store) "Quartet" charger:
Input 100/240vac 50/60Hz 0.3aMax (yes, that's zero point three), OUTPUT 500mA on each of the 4 individual ports.
2. Lenovo IdeaPad (factory) "HuntKey: charger (shipped with Lenovo S6000-F tablet, which looks almost identical to the Tab 2 A10-70 series):
Input 100/240vac 50/60Hz 0.2aMax (yes, that's zero point two), OUTPUT 5.0v, 0.2a
3. Lenovo C-P35 charger (shipped with TAB 2 A10-70F):
Input 100/240vac 50/60Hz 0.5aMax (yes, that's zero point five), OUTPUT 5.2v, 2.0a
An empirical test shows that using the correct charger has cut recharge time by about 60%.
Since many reports are about slow recharge with different devices, Your Mileage May Vary.
Hope this helps.
I also am using a Tab 2 A10-70 F and have a few issues with Lollipop that did not happen using KitKat. Most are minor but battery life is not as good and WiFi is slow to connect and the signal strength is not as strong.
I have not done a full factory restore but may try it soon to see if the issues will resolve.

For me no. But when I use samsung tab4 and tab2 its tragical diference on touch sesitivity. Samsung fork correctly, but tab2 so so bad.
Do you guys leave Wifi connected all the time ? My battery life was awfull (with android 4.4), like it wouldn't last one day, with using it less than one hour, and I found out that the main culprit was "WLAN". Since I installed the Doze application and everything went back to normal. I'm wondering if someone had this problem ? Maybe a factory reset could help ?
-- OOPS sorry, didn't notice this thread was about lollipop --
Lenovo Tab 2 A8-50F
I have a Lenovo Tab 2 A8-50F with Android 5.1, Build A8-50F_S000037_151023_ROW.
The most annoying thing is WiFi. Even with activated setting to keep it on with screen off, it takes up to 2 minutes after turning screen on to reconnect WiFi. It seems that every app with "network changing" event fires up, and after 1-2 minutes I am able to do what I wanted to do.
With the App "Wake Lock" I can prevent this behaviour sometimes.
I am sad about this, because this tablet is absolutely okay for me to read and work and play (okay, 2 GB instead of 1 GB RAM would be nicer).
Battery life is absolutely okay for me, even if "Wake Lock" keeps the tab "online". Actually there is no update for fixing this.
