[Q] HTC One X+ rooting problem - HTC One X+

Hi,
I tried rooting my phone for the first time today and it didn't go as planned.
I used this tutorial: /watch?v=gIeq8Jx28cs
In part 1 everything went great, but in this part: /watch?v=80lMHUgxwww there is a problem.
I can't go into the recovery mode. My phone did a factory reset after the "root" and now I don't have anything on the phone.
BTW it says that the phone is unlocked, but it isn't rooted. I need help ASAP. Thanks in advance.

Unlocked means your bootloader is unlocked, and you probably flashed your recovery wrong or forgot to flash it altogether. Try reflashing it.
(It probably did a factory reset because when you press recovery while running stock recovery, it automatically does a factory reset).

Can you be more specific about what I need to do? I'm pretty noobish at these things if you haven't noticed
And is there a way to get my apps back? I had like $40 worth of paid apps on there.

P.S. All of your apps are in Google Play, just redownload them

Auto-booting Into Bootloader/Fastboot

I rooted my LTEvo using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671577 and now, when my phone is off and I plug a charger in, it automatically boots into fastboot. This happens with both USB and AC. I don't press any buttons, just plug the charger in.
Suggestions? Thanks!
I had the same thing happen to me yesterday, weird.
The issue was resolved by doing a full root and installing viperROM. Most likely an issue with the method listed above or trying to install TWRP while the bootloader was still locked.

Full root vs partial root. Please explain?
I suppose I meant rooting vs. unlocking the bootloader. I used the batch file method in the original post to root and install SU. I then used Goomanager to try flashing TWRP, but the phone just rebooted. The issue started occurring at that point, but stopped when I unlocked the bootloader using HTCdev.com and installed viperROM.

Subtle yet very different
I had this same problem. I fix it by re-flashing the stock recovery via Android Terminal Emulator

Sounds like that would have done it for me as well. I'm guessing the stock recovery got corrupted somehow when I tried flashing TWRP with a locked bootloader.

I'm having the same problem and also still have a locked bootloader too. I did like AmonReviled stated and had tried to install TWRP recovery after only rooting with Zedomax method and have been seeing this issue since then.
Since I don't have a lot of time on my hands right now, I really don't want to get into unlocking the bootloader and heading down the custom recovery and custom ROM road just yet so I'd like to be able to just restore the default HTC stock recovery without losing any of the rest of my data or having to reinstall everything. Especially since I sometimes like to charge my phone while completely powered off, and this issue has made that impossible.
Shook187, can you tell me how you were able to reflash the stock recovery through Android Terminal Emulator? I already have the app on my LTEvo but I'm assuming I also need access to a stock recovery image? Theoretically I'd like to be able to restore just the recovery partition to stock without losing/erasing any of the rest of the data on my phone.
Any help would be much appreciated.
EDITED TO ADD: Nevermind, I got it, and it didn't delete any of my data. I used the recovery image and instructions from the OP in the Clockwork Recovery thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675430 in case anyone else is wondering.

[Q] Rooted I717, constant reboots, no recovery, flashing stock ROM not working

I changed from an iPhone 4 in May to the Samsung Note. On my iPhone I would immediately jailbreak and install MyWi. In my research to do the same on the note I ran across a rooting tutorial for my device and followed the instructions http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-note-att-i717-root-without-increasing-flash-counter-61325/ (I am not positive, but I feel confident this is the one I followed). I installed Superuser and Titanium Backup, did a backup of ATT connection manager, then removed it. Tethering worked like a charm. This has worked and I had no issues until Friday June 14th.
On Friday, everytime I opened an app on my phone I would get a Force Close. I restarted the phone and watched as it repeatedly happened after every cycle. Believing that installing Droid VNC Server was the issue, the last app I had installed, I removed it successfully and included others I didn’t use. Upon reboot, I noticed the notification of App Updates and a missed call. Checked the application list and noticed that all of the apps I had just removed were still there. I have a ton of pics and videos and thought that I should back them up immediately before I deleted them, prepared for the worst. I was able to do that. I deleted them all, nothing in the gallery. When the phone crapped out again and rebooted, all apps and all pictures back.
I formatted the USB Storage, seemed to delete nothing and also showed the same amount of used space as before.
Time for a restore. I know now that the recovery partition is gone and so a Wipe/reset is fruitless. No problem. I know how to flash the rom. I used this method with Odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330
Everything seemed to work successfully, but upon reboot I get the same app updates notification and the same missed call notification. The same frozen state my phone was in when the issue started on Friday. WTH!
I have everything backed up. How do I get back to stock? I could care less about the counter. I just want my phone to be usable again.

did you try wiping Catche and Dav?
Wipe Catch > Wife Davlik > Fix Permision, then reboot ..
see what happens ..
Not a noob, but here is where i am lost
I booted in to recovery, chose to Wipe/Erase . I see no option to Wipe Davlik except for in SuperUser and there it is a paid option, not sure where to find Fix Permission and then reboot?
I am assuming these are all options for CWM. I attempted to put CWM on an SD card last night and install from ZIP, but Recovery does not seem to see the SD card.
Are these options that are available for CWM, if so I will push through until I get it to work, but I have had no luck to this point.

I have attempted to Flash ROMs I don't desire just to move forward. They all flash and pass in Odin but on reboot I still have my default screen. Unfortunately, I want to go back to stock. I have done plenty of research and need something more to push on to the next thing. I am looking at phone and there is not an Advanced option in recovery. I have read there are options in CWM but I am looking at what I believe is the stock recovery options.

after you are rooted ,
you should have nothing to do with Odin.
and also, if you were stuck on your phone trying to boot up, chances are you keep downloading a bad ROM..
happen to me before..a ROM that was suposed to be 192MB,
would finish on 158MB
someone else may be able to help you get back to stock ROM..i havent had the chance to ever wanna go back to stock so i wouldnt know for sure.
sorry and good luck .

Would you say this is a good tutorial to follow?

So, maybe I am a newb. I have followed the instructions to install CWM on my device and it even says it was successful. I am doing it from ODIN. See the file I downloaded here. Says it was successful but holding the volume up and then power button. NO CWM.
I am truly frustrated but I want my phone back. Can someone link me to the stupid people posts so I can get my phone working again?

CWM Problems
Hi,
Have you looked at these posts? Sounds like you may be using the
wrong key combo to start CWM?

You now have a custom recovery(according to Odin). The problem is, you're doing the wrong key combo as stated above. You can also go to the market and grab FJ's power tool. You can boot into recovery directly from the app. Good luck.
Certainly I am not this dumb..... am I

Still having issues. Here is the deal.
I have the phone in Download mode
https://www.dropbox.com/s/dnk6ekjqp9vddev/2012-06-19 19.40.01.jpg
I load the CWM Recovery in the PDA box. Start the flash, get a pass. All looks good to me.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5q4hayf35mm26wr/odin-success.PNG
I immediately attempt to access CWM Recovery by holding the power, vol+ and vol- and still get the default recovery
https://www.dropbox.com/s/d176blydonlvrlu/2012-06-19 20.13.42.jpg
I am so confused as to what I am doing wrong.
Unfortunately those pics aren't loading for me. Try again with the pic of recovery and the file you're flashing. Thanks. If you still have stock recovery then maybe that's what you're flashing in error.
Try volume up + down and power button. When phone vibrates, release power button but keep holding volume buttons until you are in cwm.
I would use Odin to flash cwm touch recovery from pda, then load a rom via cwm. Using that method you don't even need to root because it's all done at bootloader level and root is built in to the custom rom you flash

[Q] Full wipe?

Hello,
If i want to sell my device and be 100% sure to delete all files.
What is the best thing to do?
Cause when i just delete storage it still says xx GB is used.
How to clean the entire phones of all files?
Thanks!
Boot into Bootloader, and apply factory reset. when you reboot the phone, it is like a new one which has just come out of the box.

[Q] Soft Brick?

Hi,
Today I had a message that I can upgrade something in my d605. So I started upgrade and my phone restarted to CWM. And now it's stuck in restarting to CWM.
So i tried to recover, install new soft and even kdz upgrade. Nothing worked and i'm still rebooting to CWM.
Can anybody help me? I'll be more than grateful.
P.S. My 'old' soft (and original) was 4.4.2 v20B
EDIT: To sum up, it looks like whole OS is missing, no matter what I do, I end up in CWM. Even factory reset does nothing. I don't know what to do...
If CWM works why don't you flash your ROM through it using a flashable zip?

I tried doing this with two different ROMs, but nothing happened. I said that new soft wasn't working, by that I meant flashing with CWM.
Ok, so I managed to unbrick my phone using guide on another forum (wich I can't post link to because of policy).
Now I just need to flash new rom, but that's easy. Thanks for (no) help everybody!
I'm sorry for you but Varcain said to not upgrade via OTA if you have cwm
cescom said:
Something like that happened to me few months ago, it was because I entered CWM with vol- + power, during data factory reset cwm said it was because data partition was corrupted;
if you did so, you simply had to go to mount and storage, format data and data/media;
(i know i'm late but if someone will face the same problem i hope this will help him)

I did that, but it didn't work for me. Whole boot part was missing, I don't know how this happened.

Cannot unlock screen.

So yesterday my brother-in-law gave me his old Galaxy S 4.
He forgot to tell me that the screen is still locked with a pin.
I thought installing the latest software through Odin would remove the screen lock, but no luck.
I searched through the forum and have not found a single thread on solving this.
Can anyone help me solve this conundrum?

The problem is the only way I know how to perform a factory reset with the screen locked is through recovery. No matter how much I try the device will not boot into recovery. Any other ways to perform a wipe?

After a full odin flash it should replace the recovery and allow you in. If not then I don't think you can get in unless it has adb enabled with root
