[Q] Tried rooting, stuck on downloading screen - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I tried rooting my S3 I9300 this morning and it seemed to work, but when I tried opening titanium, it said my device wasnt rooted properly, so I tried rooting it again but my phone is now stuck on the 'downloading...Do not turn off target!!' screen. My computer, Windows XP 3, wont recognise the device when I connect the usb cable.
I have no idea what to do from this point on.
Thanks for any advice.

Press and hold the power button until it switches off, boot into recovery and factory reset.
If that doesn't work then flash a stock rom with odin.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply to my message. I was unsure whether turning the phone off during the 'downloading...do not turn off target!!' screen would cause any damage. As it happens, the phone seems to be fine. Thanks again.

[Q] Help? Bricked?

I'm having some issues, guys.
I had the CWM working and running fine, then I reflashed it this morning using Odin and my phone is not responding to it. Odin told me it was successful, I can boot into recovery but selecting any of the options turn the phone off. I can't boot back into download mode because my windows tells me it can't recognize the USB device.
Did I just soft brick my phone?
EDIT: I'm an idiot. I got my previous backup restored. The keybindings were switched up on me so that the power button was selecting option and the home button was turning off the device.

Yeah, keymaps were a little screwy in one of the CWM releases.

Galaxy S2 wont come out of sleep/ standby mode

Hello.
I recently got a galaxy s2 that had been water damaged and wouldn't start.
I disassembled the phone and cleaned it thoroughly with isopropyl.
After putting the phone back together, everything works perfectly, except for the front camera and... whenever the phone goes into standby/ sleep mode for more than 5 seconds, the phone will not come back on and I have to replace the battery in order to turn the phone back on. This happens every time the phone goes to sleep mode for more than 5 seconds. If I turn the screen back on before 5 seconds have passed, the screen comes right back on.
However, if I have the charger attached to the phone, nothing wrong happens and the phone works perfectly (except for the front camera).
I would
A factory reset the phone .
B flash firmware to rule in a hardware problem .

Thanks for the reply.
I have tried resetting the phone but that didn't solve it.
I also tried to update the firmware, but I'm not able to, because when the phone restarts during the flashing proccess, the phone just stays off and won't power back on. I then have to re-insert the battery to power up the phone again, but then the flashing proccess is interrupted.
By the way. I don't have any experience with rooting android phones and don't know of another way to flash the phone, other than throught the "KIES" software or through the update function on the phone itself.
I'm not sure if the phone is rooted or has a custom firmware, but when I press vol up + home button when powering on the phone, I am presented with a menu that says ODIN, so not sure if that means the phone is rooted or not.

Odd that and i would guess it is custom firmware .
Recovery factory reset is
Vol Up + Power + Home Button held down and released at splash screen
Download mode is Vol Down + Power + Home Button
Can you get to either of the above .

You have a lot of information you need.
Odin is the utility used to flash firmwares/kernels/modems/etc to your phone. If that screen that says "Odin" says custom binary: no (or something similar) then it is LIKELY that it is not rooted, but you can root and reset this display with a few different techniques.
I've found Kies unreliable at best when attempting to update firmware, and have only used Odin. (since Kies never fully updated my firmware even once)
Read FAQs and stickies here.
Ok. Thanks for the help to both of you.
Tried to flash a stock firmware with the odin software, but after the phone powers off during the flashing proccess, it wont power back on.
So I have to re-insert the battery again, which interupts the flashing proccess.
So the water has propably done too much damage to the phone then and it's propably not a software fault.
I've ordered a new battery in case that is the cultprit, but if it's not, then I'll propably just sell the phone for spares.
At least the screen is in pretty good condition

Don't forget to press thanks the guys who helped you

help please!! i777 won't start and I run out of ideas

I have a rooted i777 with SHOstock rom, I haven't updated the rom for a few months so I'm not sure which version it is.
The phone was working yesterday and it suddenly got stuck so I tried to reboot it (had to take out the battery because the power button didn't respond) but now each time I try to turn it on it is stuck on a black screen with the logo "Samsung Galaxy SII" and won't progress.
I tried to boot to recovery but it shows a screen saying "CWM-based Recovery v6.0.2.7" but it doesn't go pass the screen to show the recovery menu (it just reboots after being stuck on this screen for about a minute).
I tried to boot to download mode and succeeded, but every time I connect the device to my pc, the pc doesn't recognize it
(I tried re-installing kies, but it didn't help and probably the problem is not with the pc drivers because if I connect my wife's unrooted i777 to the pc it does recognize it).
so now I don't have clue what else to try.
any advice will be appreciated.
Make sure you have Odin v1.85 on your Windows PC. Look in the Windows Add/Remove programs dialog (or Uninstall a Program dialog) to see if you have SAMSUNG USB driver for mobile phones.
Open Odin on the desktop. Next put the phone into download mode by holding down vol + and vol - while plugging in the USB cable.
If Odin recognizes your phone, flash back to stock. I would recommend UCMD8 stock firmware, which you can get from the Download Repository.
don't know what happened to it but now it doesn't even turn on.
it's stopped turning on before I had a chance to try what you suggested.
now even if I connect it to the charger it doesn't show the charging status.
is there any other "force something" I can try?

Remove the battery and leave it out. Connect the USB cable to your PC. While holding down the vol- button (also try it with both vol- and vol+) but not the power button, plug the USB cable into the phone. The computer will provide the power. If this works, your phone will go into download mode. If not... you have very likely had some kind of hardware failure.
unfortunately it didn't work.
can't get it to download mode.
I'll try to leave the battery out for a longer time and try again.
should I try ordering a JTAG usb and see if it puts it in download mode or
probably my only option is to send it to mobiletechvideos?
I had the same problem, Your battery got too low. Pull your battery and leave it out for a while 15 mins or so. Put the battery back in and connect charger. Let the battery charge for a while without trying to turn on phone. The phone will not turn on with a dead battery even if it is connected to charger.
I just solved a problem that I didn't find any help with, so I thought I would post it here in case somebody else needs help out of this situation, and this is a recent and related thread.
After I pulled the battery of my i777 to test in another phone, without remembering to power my phone off first, it would only hang at the Samsung boot logo (stock UCMD8 ROM, rooted, stock recovery). Normally the Samsung boot screen shows for only about five seconds. Pulling the battery wouldn't get it to boot right. Holding Power to force a reboot didn't solve it. After clearing the cache it would move to the AT&T Rethink Possible screen once, then reboot and then again get hung on the Samsung logo screen. Also my battery was heating up a lot as it was hung.
I could get into both download mode and recovery. I tried reflashing my ROM from the stock file in ODIN since that would save all of my data IF it worked. This still didn't get it to boot past the first logo. Finally doing a factory reset on stock recovery is what solved my problem. I had to re-add my account and reload apps from scratch, etc.

[Q] [HELP!] GT - I9100 bricked

Well I was undervolting and underclocking my i9100 for a few months and it would suffer from freezes and stuff like that nothing much as I would be able to perform a hard reset and reboot with my phone completely working everytime that happens. However today, I just locked my phone after taking a picture and I could not unlock it after that. I pressed the power button and home button but the screen would not turn on. So i just took out the battery and tried booting the phone. It was stuck in a bootloop where the boot animation would just keep on playing. So i force shutdown it and booted it into recovery. I had CWM 6.0.4.6 installed and when i booted into recovery, it gave me the message it cannot mount something and cannot load last kmsg and blah. I took no notice and tried to format cache. During this point, the recovery hanged and i force shutdown my phone again. After which, I could never turn on my phone again. No splash screen no nothing. I think it is bricked. And yea btw my usb port is not working anymore and it can only be used for charging. And i was running cm11 infected. Can you all please help me thanks!
so no recovery nor download mode?
Sadly, no

Yep i cannot even boot into anything no splash screen no nothing pressed the power button for like so long i even removed the battery for 2 hours and popped it back in not working
Try this - take out battery, then press and hold volume down+home+power and put battery back without releasing buttons. This may get you into a download mode where you can flash stock jb via odin.

Tab s6 stuck on "Samsung galaxy tab s6" logo

Hi
yesterday my tab s6 screen got unresponsible without anything else happened..
Then i found out that if i used the pen - the n i could turn it off from drop down menu.
I did that but then when i tried to turn it on it got stuck on that bootloop!
I can not access recovery mode - only download mode.
When i put it on charge it starts booting without showing battery percent and boots over and over until battery is drained.
In download mode i tried to flash Bootloader and firmware - but no luck ( odin proceduce succeded but the tab is still in the same bootloop )..
Still can't reach recovery menu..
Any ideas?
Recovery Mode is tricky to get to on this tablet - The timings of the button presses are difficult to nail. Assuming you weren't trying to flash anything to your tablet prior to it boot looping, I don't see any reason why you couldn't access Recovery Mode.
Reboot Tab by pressing and holding both Power (Bixby) button and volume down. Once screen turns off immediately press Power and Volume Up, let go once you see Samsung logo.

Have you done anything to your tablet prior to bootloop? Tried to flash anything, deleted anything?
Again, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to access Recovery this situation is exactly why it's there.

I opened NBA 2K Mobile and then i went away for like 20mins..
Then i opened the tab and screen was not reacting - only with pen.
I think the USB debugging is not enabled - is there any ways how to enable it without rooting?
Just tried to install a firmware through download mode - Odin shows "passed" and my tab is still in the same sh** ..:/

UAE..
"setup connection failed" is a USB error. Try a different cable, or a different port on the computer, or a totally different computer
