I upgraded my note to 4.4.2 with freeza rom. I have my phone flashed to a different service provider (other then sprint) I found out that 4.4.2 is not compatible with the flash. Anytime my device is flashed then my phone has no service. It has a red x on the service bars. If I can downgrade my phone then I will regain service and be able to use my device. If I can't downgrade then you can say I just have a paper weight.

From what I have read, it is possible (not confirmed), you need to flash the engineered bootloader, then you can downgrade to na4 and then back to mj4...i have not seen anyone try it yet, you might be the first to try... Check out freezas threads and follow them. I believe if you read the leak thread he created, the steps are there. Good luck!

You are going to need the engineered bootloader first, then you might be able to down grade to the na4, once you do that, hopefully it will let you go back to mj4... I'll grab a couple more links for you...

I can't seem to find them from my phone, if you do a search in the threads, look for na4 tar and mj4 tar, if you can successfully get back to na4, you will need to flash mj4 twice, after the second flash, go straight into stock recovery and do a wipe and then it will start back up... Like I said, best of luck man. And read the forums, you don't want to risk bricking.

Shyne888,
You're on Boost Mobile right? You upgrade to 4.4.2 and you have completely no signal right? You can't go back to older bootloader, samsung made sure of that.
But you can downgrade your MODEM to get the signal back.

I use 3.09 Odin and seems to work best. If you are flashing bootloader put the file in bl, if you are flashing the mj4 or na4 put it in the ap slot. Search for Odin and you will find lots of info.

I haven't been able to attempt this yet as i still have a few questions. All i need to know is what slot the modem goes in in Odin. Some thing are saying that Odin is not the best to flash the modem. Is this information true and the file that was provided: would it be compatible with 4.4.2 stock that came from MJ4

Someone said Mobile Odin is not recommended for flashing modems. You should be using PC Odin to attempt this.
And...why do you need to know into what slot a modem goes?
I believe that the files that are part of this process are bootloaders, tar roms and pit files (if you're going from 4.3 to 4.4.2). Bootloader is contained in the complete rom builds NAB, NA4 and MJ4. No modem. The bootloader, if using, goes on bootloader slot. Rom goes in PDA slot.
I hope this helps.
Good luck.

I asked because i felt that the modem was the problem from all that i have done and been thru wit this phone. Anyway...
I inserted the modem from the link provided on this thread. http://goo.gl/W0f3Za. (The post on this thread that provided the link to the MJ4 modem was no longer on their server/cloud.
I inserted the file in the phone slot and pressed start. Odin got stuck at first attempt. While the phone was stuck i closed Odin and held down the DL mode keys and reentered DL mode. I tried Odin again and it went thru. It reset and worked. I have call with text (No MMS or Data). Old texts that came when i was without service which was a week came back as well.
I encountered what seemed to be a hard brick thru out this process and with flashing CF Root thru Odin. My phone would show the recovery message and show the samsung logo and then it would boot loop and do that over and over. I wasn't able to boot into DL mode and i couldn't get it to stop automatically rebooting and do the same thing over again. I had to take the battery out. After leaving the battery out for 2 minutes the phone stopped auto booting and i was able to get the phone into DL mode.
Once i got into DL mode CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423 with the Odin file provided worked. The CF Root for this phone does not work for this phone for some reason.

My phone came on 4.3. But I'm already on 4.4.2. My problem was that updating to the Kit Kat update on a Sprint MVNO network would knock out service. And i have done a lot to try and fix this phone for the last week and this is the only thing that worked to get the service back. Two store i took the phone to couldn't get it to work. My question now is: Would this be the best modem for me to be on?

I think that you need to keep your eye out for Josh Beach and K3. I've heard that there's a universal install procedure that handles MVNOs.

ive flashed stock rom and stock recovery and still have the custom unlocked padlock.. any ideas? i need to go back to verizon since i messed up my sim and 4g is broken.
third time flashing recovery and stock rom and the padlock is finally gone
I have the same issue. I had jellybean. I think it was 4.2.2, rooted it and then they pushed the OTA kitkat 4.4.2. I lost my root and I'd really like to get rid of that padlock screen now. Problem is people keep saying I can use triangle away to reset the binary counter and that will get rid of it. Can't do that without it being rooted though. Some say just re flash with the stock firmware. I'd do it if I could find the file but some say that doesn't work anyway. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Ive read somewhere on here that it may be something on you external sd card , possibly old " hack , root " files from a previous phone?
Also if busy box was ever installed that would need to be removed. There's probably something else I'm forgetting. But if your phone just has that custom screen.... Verizon doesn't really care i can tell you from personal experience.

Thanks for the reply. I read those responses but mine didn't have the padlock out of the box. I just figured maybe someone found a way to get rid of it by now after the KitKat OTA removed their root. Perhaps re flashing the stock rom, which I can't find, might do it. And I did look around with no luck.
Eh. No biggie. It's not affecting the performance of the phone. I'm just being anal. I guess I can live with it. Thanks again.

Well, I know you've all been waiting for the MJ4 update, and I have all the system files ready to go. However, the baseband refuses to update past MI3 for me. Nothing i've done gets this thing updated past MI3. I had it at MI5 at one point, but in an attempt to get the MJ4 update before someone passed it along to me, I Odined back to MI3 and now have the stupid message about roll-out updates exceeding.
Basically, anyone with any sort of knowledge in this please chime in with suggestions, ideas, whatever!
I know a few of you have had trouble getting past MI3 yourself with my firmware update. My phone updated fine with it in the beginning, but now it won't. I'm assuming samsung has some security checks in place that reverts any changes unless they're official?
I have tried the following:
-dd from a friend's phone who has MI5. No luck, mine is still at MI3.
-created a flashable zip from the update.zip MJ4 OTA. System files get updated fine, but baseband remains at MI3.
-created a flashable zip with just the modem/apnhlos updates. No luck, still remains at MI3.
-created a odin tar with MI5 modem/apnhlos from a friend's phone. No luck, ODIN refuses to flash it.
-tried flashing the official MI5 update from MI3 with stock recovery. No luck, signature verification error.
-tried flashing the official MJ4 update from MI3 with stock recovery. Obviously no luck, signature verification error, and i'm on an older MI3.
-tried creating an all in one flashable from MI3 all the way up to MI4. Works in custom recovery, however, baseband remains at MI3.
-tried dd aboot, rpm, tz, sbl1, sdi, manually from adb, then applying MI5 update, then MJ4. No luck, baseband remains at MI3
It looks as though if you haven't been officially updated, it refuses to update any of the core firmware.
I'm pretty stumped and annoyed at Samsung for their HTC-style crap they're pulling on us. This may be my last Samsung phone.
If anyone has any ideas or would like to test things please feel free to reply back with suggestions or whatever.

Probably, but kies keeps telling me that firmware initialization isn't available for my phone
The problem isn't how to update officially, it's how to apply baseband updates for rooted people, which is looking very hard or impossible to do.
It's like .....if you're rooted, you can't get anything. We can keep updating the android system just fine, but any firmware or baseband updates absolutely refuse to apply. I'm guessing a firmware update is what solved the audio popping problems too. Maybe a android system update did, but who knows.
When I tried to update through the stock recovery it said the signature verification failed but the update finished. But in the phone nothing changes at all. That's kinda strange I've never seen that before, it either does the update , or it fails.
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
well what im thinking right off the bat is to modify the actual kies program itself so that we could get it to recognize the firmware we want to update to as the one it finds. if you could get me the extracted files I can see what I can come up with.

Yeah that would be an option, if someone can create one with all the necessary files (not just a system image, but recovery, modem, etc) Because the official updates won't apply if you have mixed firmwares. So if a modified odin image were created, it would have to contain all the MI5 firmware as well.

You can definitely odin back to MI3. I don't think there is an Odin MI5 around. The problem is, since Samsung is rolling out these updates in stages, probably to avoid server load, people will be stuck on MI3 until they allow more updates. You'll get the error message about roll-out updates exceeding.

I'll upload them in a sec. It'll be like 1.3gb so it may take me around 30 minutes to upload. Also, I don't have the official MJ4 kernel either. I don't know how to properly extract the update.zip. It was created in a way that doesn't allow traditional extraction. If you repair it with winrar, it treats the boot.img as a corrupted file and excludes it from the rebuilt zip file.

Unmodified meaning custom status. Knox trip as far as i know won't have an affect on your ability to receive updates, BUT now that you mention it, maybe it has an affect on you being able to manually update your baseband. I was only able to do it one time with a flashable zip, and I am not sure if i were knox tripped or not, but i sure am now.
Whoever you can think of, we could definitely use their help!

well i have not rooted this device yet at all only updated to m15 with kies. so if i was to root the way that does not trip the knox and then try a flashable update.zip for cwm I could maybe see if it works or not.

If Knox isn't the reason we can't update then why do we get the error about being "modified" Knox causes that right?
Sent from my SM-N900P using xda premium
Before the update came out my phone was saying i was modified when i have not done ANYTHING to my phone yet. I told my brother n he told me to take the SD card out because Samsung has a weird bug with SD cards that if u have too many files or something it'll say ur modified. Idk but after i did that i got the exceeded error..... Also if u just clean up ur SD card it'll work too. He actually sent this

she (sorry )may be thinking of me. I'm out at cota today doing formula 1 stuff so will be a little bit before I can help. But I can say...
Was able to go from mi3 to mi5 (baseband included) using DeLaVega root and wanam. But then had to do some messing to get mi5 to show official.
Alternatively was also able to get official with wanam on mi5 by using the DeLaVega script and wanam on the official mi5 firmware also.
In both cases baseband was changed.when going back to MI3 and forward to mi5.both cases root still worked. Knox still 0x0
Of course no matter which method i try I still get update exceeded and am waiting for mj4.
I do have a few more ideas for you guys but need some time in front of a pc.to be sure. And a copy of the update to verify.
I'll set aside some time this evening.

I do not own this phone.
This thread will provide custom recovery ( CWM/TWRP ) flashable zip files of the stock frmware without knox software. This way you need not upgrade using OTA and hence will be able to move between stock and custom firmware if need to.
If you use OTA to upgrade to the latest firmware, your bootloader will be upgraded to facilitate knox. Once updated there is no going back. The roms in this thread will help you overcome this issue.
The only prerequisite is that you are not already running a knox enabled bootloader. You can find this out by going into download mode and checking if knox entries are shown in bootloader screen.
You will have the following advantages.
Bootloader is not touched, hence any compatible rom can be flashed, including custom roms
Only Samsung knox files are removed
Root & Busybox
Stock kernel
Deodexed
Zipaligned
Procedure
Download the Odin version of Philz recovery or my custom twrp recovery and flash.
Reboot to recovery first else custom recovery will be replaced by stock recovery.
Flash the ROM zip file
Reboot and Njoy...
As an additional step, you can flash the modem that comes with the ROM. The procedure to flash the modem is given below.
Use Odin v3.04
Untick Autoreboot
Flash modem
Reboot once again into Download Mode using (Vol Down plus Home button combi)
Flash Modem once more
Once done, unplug then reboot device manually.
If this doesn't work, try repeating the flash process again while rebooting manually and with auto-reboot option turned off.
Downloads
All files can be downloaded from my Mega folder. Choose the mega link and select SPH-L600 STOCK FIRMWARE folder. MD5 hash values are available in a separate file inside the folder.

Well now that I'm over being a wise guy, I think what I'm reading is that with this apk you can do outbound calls and texts, just not on LTE. Is that correct? And is the phone apk rom specific? Like so many others, I'm guessing, I'm really itching to ditch the Sprint stock rom. But wait... just this second for the umpteenth time my phone is telling me that I have left the network with roaming turned off (sitting in my living room, smack dab in the middle of an LTE coverage area.) This is killing me!! Haha!!

You shouldn't have this problem on a stock ROM. I suggest you flash the modem that came with the ROM. Its available as a separate Odin flashable tar file.

Yeah that's what I think. I downloaded it the other day so I'll do that this morning. As an aside, I really need to dig in and learn how to do this (cook/build,) but I'm a school teacher with almost no time to devote to my own education in this regard. I have been looking around at some of the guides but there is some much information that I'm not really sure where to start (suggestions?). I tend to be a bit obsessive/compulsive when it comes to technology, so much so that my friends and family often start to wonder "what happened to me." I imagine others can relate. On spring break this week; time to play.
Thank you.

Very funny, Mr.Nair. And I'm an English teacher to boot! I would relish having someone with experience to mentor me. Just to show you how much teachers look forward to their breaks(read mental exhaustion,) I discovered today that after flashing a custom recovery and rooting this little Sprint demon the other day, I had NOT flashed the firmware you uploaded. Can't believe I didn't do that. This came to light after I flashed the CM ROM for I9205 (I know, NOT recommended, but I did it for kicks.) Your CM build installed beautifully, and I was able to connect to WiFi, but of course I didn't have a cell data connection. I flashed the L600 modem in Odin a couple times on top of CM and applied various settings using the phone apk moosiemooses linked and eventually did get a mobile data connection, but I couldn't make it persistent. I wound up restoring the nandroid I made the other day; this is when I discovered that I hadn't flashed the firmware version in your Mega folder. So I did that after lunch today, flashed the modem twice and after a bit of fiddling all seems to be working well. I'm fairly new to this carrier and the network seems a bit finicky, but that's just my opinion. I spent most of the day doing this, and I think I learned something in the process, just not clear about what that is exactly.<g>
Thanks.
Carl
Going from MJ4 Jellybomb to NAB KitKat Killer
Follow these links precisely in this order. This process assumes these things:
You already have Odin and the drivers for your device.
You are already on a rooted MJ4 Jellybomb ROM
You have already played around with your device before and will not blame me if you break it.
This is a painless process and shouldn't take more than a couple hours to download everything and install. I am using Odin v3.09 as I find this works the best on my Note 3 and never causes problems. If you do not see your device in Odin this is another thing all together, and you need to find the drivers.
Odin each file in the AP slot, this used to be known as PDA. Reboot after each Odin flash let the device sit for a minute then on to the next. Odin v3.09 will already have the 'reboot' option checked by default.
Do not wipe anything until you get the recovery back onto your device.
At this point it is up to you. I wiped System, Dalvik and Cache only and have had no difficulty.
EDIT HERE: To make it even easier here is a link to Odin as well thanks to @daerragh

First of all I am glad this helped you. You shouldn't need the engineering boot-loader unless something got messed up. If you just want it for future ability to flash basebands then yes. Being NABbed (yeah) is a prerequisite to flashing @freeza boot-loader.

Now that we have the full restore files for both builds, just flash stock MJ4, back up your internal memory to your computer, flash the complete stock NAB tar or one-click, and go from there.
Those tar files bring you to official status, the second plants NAB on your phone, after which time you can flash recovery and either root, or go straight to K3.
Not a bad idea to factory reset your rooted MJ4 phone prior to flashing the stock MJ4 file, as it will save you some time.
Just follow the OP.
It's super easy, fun for the whole family.

I don't think freeza 's stockish NH7 will work, it will remove the twrp recovery, and replace it with stock one. Which you cannot replace without a PC.

Can't you use freeza's rom then use Flashify the recovery or Mobile Odin Pro?
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk
Now you might want to reconsider going to 4.4.4. You need to read up, there is a lot of problems with this update. The main complaint is a loss of signal strength. The other problem is that the 4.4.4 backup will have personal info in it, most people will not give that up. If you can get your hands on a backup, you will have to download it to you device, move it to your sd card twrp backup file. Now once you try and restore the backup, you will end up with a md5 mismatch error. To correct this, you need to get a root type file explorer like root explorer, then go to the backup file that failed and click on it. Now delete the nandroid.md5, and click to add a file and reinstall another nandriod.md5 file where the old one was, check permissions. Ok, try the backup file again. This time the system will ignore the empty nandroid.md5 file and install the backup.
