Galaxy S 3 turns on until Galaxy Logo - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello people,
I am wokring on an international verson of Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 of a friend of mine.
His devise freezed at the Galaxy S 3 logo at the beginning and couldn't go any forward.
He took it to a guy that repairs phones and he told him that it's a hardware problame and needs 150 euro to fix it.
So i asked him if he wants me to give a try and see if it's not a hardware problem.
Anyway i will give you as many details as possible to tell me what you think.
As i said before its GT-I9300, no root, unbranded, but i am not sure about the firmware. Most probably it's at 4.3. No SD card.
The phone starts only until the Galaxy S 3 logo and freezes there.
When i press the power button the phone shuts off but then immediately reboots by itself but again freezes at the Galaxy logo.
I do have access to both recovery and download mode so i believed that i could do something but unfortunately so far nothing.
I have tried to do factory reset but during the process it reboots. I wiped succesfully the dalvic cache and the battery stats but i cannot do factory reset.
I also tried through Kies to do emergency recovery but again during the process it tells me that there is an error with the phone and couldn't go forward.
Then i tried with Odin to root the phone. I have found the correct PDA file (i think) and again started the process but i got FAIL.
Then i tried with custom roms. I have put 2-3 custom roms that i had on my pc. I trasfered them on an external SD card and tried to install them through Recovery mode. The process starts ok and allows me select the options of the installation but at the point where it tries to wipe the data it stops and automatically reboots.
I have tried to install the custom rom without full wipe but again it stops and reboots.
I browsed in a lot of sites but i haven't found anything else so far that could save this phone.
So i open to any suggestions you may have.
Is it really hardware issue?
It's strange though because the phone starts up to a point and i have access on both recovery and download mode.
Thank you very much in advance.

it seems hardware problem....

Galaxy s 2 wont start

Hello ppl,
i got a big problem, i hope someone can help me.
A friend of mine, gave me his galaxy s 2 to fix it. It just showed the battery icon with a circle running into it.
I fixed it with the JIG and got into download mode.
Everything is fine until now, even the flash with Odin shows success, but the phone just wont start up.
It doesnt matter what i do, or flash, its stuck in the samsung galaxy s II screen.
Download Mode is working, but Recovery not. When i try to enter the recovery mode, the phone hangs with the same screen like above.
Is there anything i could try to fix this?
Thank you
geminga
Okay relax, as you can get into download mode, there's a chance that you can still fix it.
I think you're running the wrong kernel or modem here.
I advice you to freshly install a new rom, and then install a CF-Rooted kernel that allows you to get back into recovery.
Once you got that worked out, get into recovery and select Wipe/factory reset. It should boot now.
If this still does not solve your problem, install VillainRom 2.0 using the process described in the thread. I had the bootloop problem too, but Wiping, Flashing and Wiping again did the trick for me.
Thank you mate I will try this later. Im will report if I was successful. (i hope so)
I flashed 2.3.4 ROM with Odin and then CF-Recovery but i can still not access recovery mode. It shows the yellow triangel but still hangs with the samsung galaxy screen.
I think that phone has become a nice paperweight...
As 2.3.4 is a test release i would try older stable firmware .
Flash a stock 2,3,3 rom via Odin and see if it boots .

Is there something for Samsung that completely replaces everything including ROM,recovery and such things?
From my desire I know, if a RUU can't boot your phone it is 100% bricked. So I need something like that for that sgs2, to be sure that this is no hardware failure...
I will try some flashes and report after that.
Sent from my HTC Pyramid using XDA App
what i would do is install one of these carrier branded ROMs http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
and see if it boots, if it does then flash the cfroot [specific to the carrier version you choose e.g. KF2] make sure thats the right one. that should give you recovery as prodygee has said. then do a full wipe, system, data, cache, dalvik and reboot.
afaik this should work. that's worked for me on numerous bootloops!
Hope this helps, Rumble

i just followed this link... >>1.Make sure that your phone is Samsung Galaxy S2 not any other. If you try this process on any other phone then the phone will be damaged.
2.Create a backup of your all useful phone data with the help of backup apps that ensure your phone data.
3.This process will take several minutes or may be hours so make sure that your phone battery consumption is maximum.
4.Remove the SIM card and external storage SD card.
5.Download both these files.

Flashed kernel to i9210 and screen stays black

Hi, got a galaxy s2 i19210 and using cm-10-20120926-UNOFFICIAL-i9210t
Was having a few random restarts and found that if I tweaked the voltages it would put an end to this. I found I had to use DreamKernel-GTI9210T-v1.7.1CM10-20121010073231-CWM to do this, so I downloaded it and tried to install via the rom manager.
Phone restarted to install, now when it turns on it says the usual 'galaxy s2 i9210' etc, then it usually goes to the blue cyanogen symbol spinning. Unfortunately, it no longer reaches this and the screen stays black. The lights turn on, but screen stays off.
Can't seem to get into download or reset mode with the key combination and sometimes instead of turning off the phone restarts which makes trying the key combinations a bit harder.
Have tried removing and replacing the battery but that didn't help either.
HOWEVER!
My computer recognises the phone although I can't access the hdd because the phone is locked
Odin recognises the phone
So, what options do I have to get my phone working again?
I've looked at a few threads and googled a bit but haven't found anything substantial
To clarify it's a Galaxy S2 i9210T 4G Australian Telstra phone
So I finally got into odin mode and cleared the dalvik cache and did a factory reset. Installed latest i9210 firmware via download mode and odin and everything is working again. Unfortunately I lost all my data but i'd prefer that than a brick. Still doesn't explain what happened in the first place though, did I use the wrong kernel or go about the install the wrong way? I'd like to go back to cm10 but fix the random resets.
You're more likely to get an answer here. Almost everyone here has an I9100/I9100T.

[Q] i9300 hanging.

Hello!
Having a problem with i9300 device.(4.3 rom)
The phone starts up. Can use device for approx. 2 minutes, then freezes, screen goes blank and phone restarts automatically.
Recovery mode does not hang but is kind of slow and does not always reply to pushing volume up/down.
Have tried setting usb debugging on to flash but no use,if phone freezes so fast.
Also tried several times recovery mode-wiping and restoring to factory, but it doesn´t help. Phone still freezes after 1-2 minutes.
May You please offer a solution I could try?
Thanks!
rom?
original rom. phone has never been modded, used only latest update by samsung.I can write exact rom version in the evening.
Boot into download mode and see it happens there. If not then flash the latest stock firmware for your country with odin, factory reset in recovery before first boot.
If the phone freezes or reboots while in download mode then you have a hardware fault.

I will try that in evening and will let You know how it worked out. :good:
Tried latest firmware with odin. Download mode works fine and goes all the way to the end. but after finishing and first boot, setting up android language etc. for the first time, it hangs about 1 minute again.
hardware faulty then?
Yes, it sounds like it -something is breaking down after a little use.
if some part of hardware is faulty, is there maybe some kind of diagnostic tool that I can run without booting android fully up? then I could get to know what kind of system part is problematic. If I'd find out problematic part, maybe there would be a change to modify android rom, so the problematic part of system would be turned off always?
just an idea
I doubt it, even Samsung don't bother with component diagnostic -they just replace the motherboard.
My wife had a similar problem with her phone. I downloaded Dummy File Generator from the Play Store n ran the application. Been more than 6 months now with no lag.

Galaxy S2 Crash

Hi all,
I've managed to royally mess up my Galaxy S2, and I could really do with a bit of help! It was running a rooted stock rom.
The problem started when I attempted to install the Orange Signal Booster using instructions from this thread. I think the killer was replacing default.prop in system.
At this point the phone would crash a couple of seconds after the unlock screen appeared. I could get as far as dragging down and clicking settings before the entire thing hangs. I got similar results in safe mode. I also tried wiping cache etc in CWM but to no avail. I'm backed up, so I tried a factory reset, but I'm having a similar issue. The language selection screen appears, I press start and the phone freezes again.
I'd really appreciate some help!
BTW, my phone's USB port doesn't work so I'm looking for a solution that can be done within recovery. This is a separate issue and I believe it is unrelated as I have managed fine for over a year.
With a dead usb port you're pretty much screwed. The best and fail proof solution is to reflash stock rom using odin because it will wipe and reflash all partitions that were used before.

i717 will not boot Samsung logo stays on screen.

After years of great service my i717 will not boot. It shows Samsung, then this changes to a slightly fuzzy version of Samsung and just hangs there.
I am totally new to doing any modifications to phones.
I tried pressing vol up/dn then power and and it showed a screen about downloading a custom something but it didn't look like anything downloaded and this didn't help.
I then tried the genius method of just trying stuff!
I downloaded Odin 1.85.rar and cwm-i717-120305.tar.md5 and installed this as the pda option.
The phone still hangs at Samsung
But now when I hold vol up / dn and power I get a CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4 menu.
I put a sdcard in and chose the menu options to format the sd card, mount it and then do a back up to the sdcard.
It listed a lot of files and then rebooted.
When I mount the sd card in a PC it is blank.
I would like to recover my contacts from this phone if possible and I would like to get the phone working mostly so I can read NFC chips for some NFC development I am doing.
Please someone tell me what to do to get the phone to boot and a link to getting started information for someone totally new to phone modding.
Thanks.
What no one wants to help a total noob?
Was I too honest?
Would it have helped if I said I spent two whole days researching this?
About half of the problems with boot loop on i717 seemed to be caused by a stuck power button which obviously was not my problem.
ALL of the other suggestions I found were no help either.
So totally new to this I figured out I should download odgin, and this specific cwm file cwm-i717-120305.tar.md5 and install it with specific options.
I then tried to wipe the cache,
And wipe the dalvik cache,
both didn’t help.
I then tried to do a full back up to sd card.
It ACTED like it did the back up but the sd card when mounted on a PC was blank.
I then did a factory reset and now I have my good old ATT i717 note v1 working again!!
I would have liked to get my contacts but had no help.
This is all I really needed because now I have NXP Taginfo running reading nfc tags which my new J7 doesn’t do even though it says it has NFC support.
I would REALLY like to know why
1) CWM back up looks like it works but ends up with a blank SD card.
2) Boot HANG on second “fuzzy” "Samsung" screen, why is this and how to get a back up of contacts when CWM doesn’t back up.
3) ATT store “help” should have done a simple factory reset on the phone to avoid me having to buy a new phone. But they of course acted like I needed a new phone. This alone makes me want to switch.
