[Q] How to tether with rooted stock 4.2.2? - HTC Droid DNA

Before I rooted I used foxfi, but now that I've rooted and installed a custom rim (stock android 4.2.2) it no longer works for me. Know of any apps that will let me do this? I'm on Verizon and do not have a family share plan.

I recommend upgrading to KitKat 4.4.2 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2648446
In both cases Native tether app has been modded to work, and it works well without "Family Share Plan".
Be careful hot to go over your data limit.
They both have the option to stay mostly stock, however once you start playing with Venom Tweaks etc. it's hard to go back (IMHO).
As always, my friend, enjoy...

If I use the native tethering app, won't I get charged extra for tethering services? I would like to use the Kit Kat RIM but after so many HTC phones i just really like the stock android look.

But what if we have a rooted stock rom that we like and don't want to change? How do we mod the existing ROM to enable the wifi tethering?

No you wont get charged for using it. You will get charged if you go over your data limit.
Also, you can choose to "De-Sense" both of those ROMs in the Aroma installer. :good:

It appears the link to the Kit Kat rom does not work, and there is no working mirror to get it from, know of any other source for it?

Give me a few minutes to upload it to my Dropbox.
Then I can give you a link.
In the meantime, read the download instructions. Not to sound like an ass, but so many people are having issues because they don't READ the OP.
You must use the linked TWRP 2.6 Beta recovery to install.
Full wipe of Cache, Dalvic Cache, Data and System for a trouble free experience.

Block tether options

OK so this probably sounds backwards from what everyone would expect. I've been using attn1's Liberated 2.2.2 FR008 rom and adding/removing apps to suite my needs. But now I want to REMOVE usb & wifi tethering! Sounds crazy but this phone is for a kid. I don't know much about developing. I'm guessing these features are built in to the OS, if so do I need to just get a custom settings.apk that doesn't give the tether options OR is there an apk i can remove (many of the apks in that rom have name that I'm not sure what they do so I left them in)? Any help would be really appreciated!

OK so I posted this in General first but not much luck yet. I guess it is more of a development thread (ya I'm developing a kid proof rom[had to add that for the mods BOOT]). Ya the stock rom doesn't have it but then I can't ditch all the junk in that stock rom before flashing it...
Remove WifiRouter.apk (and the odex if you're not deodexed) and you should be good.

doesn't the stock AT&T 2.1 ROM have wireless and wired tethering disabled? You may just want to run that for your kid. You can even root it if you want to...

[ROM][GT-N7105]#--EmptyStock--#[Stock][Root][Deox][10 Nov]

Hello N7105 owners,
DISCLAIMER:
By reading this post, downloading any of the links, or acting on it in anyway you accept full responsibility for the outcome. I strongly suggest you do not download this ROM but that's just my opinion.
What this is:
This is EE's (UK operator)(formally Orange & T-Mobile) stock ROM for the GT-N7105 or Galaxy Note 2 LTE International - N7105XXXALIJ
Stock Kernel
Rooted
Busybox
Fully deodexed
Zip aligned
Some bloatware removed. (Light version)
What you would need:
Custom recovery (CWM) <-- See other threads for the how-to I might post a link later.
What you would do:
Download .zip
While waiting... it's big (sorry) ... do a nandroid <-- Google it.
Put .zip onto external SD Card (internal would be fine too but I think if you full wiped it'd get deleted and your panties would twist)
Flash .zip
Wait... remember it's big (sorry)
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot
Enjoy
What else you would want to do:
Flash a different Kernel - there's only one floating around for now.
Use a storage data swap - two options
Use performance scripts, see around there are lots and they'll work best with a different kernel with init.d support - there is a thread with an how-to for getting support with any kernel/ROM and I tried it but failed. I didn't try hard.
Wipe Data - this shouldn't be necessary as your phone will already be on a stock ROM.
What I would like you to do:
Make themes and I'll link them in post 2
Tell me what default apps you want back or what taken away.
Post links to other stock ROMs you'd like made more convenient (that's all this is btw because it's no different than rooting etc yourself after the fact).
Talk about N7105 development - we all want proper Dev support and built from source roms.
What I don't want you to do:
Expect anything from me.
Flash this thinking it's something special, or that I'm a dev, or think that this is counts as actual development.

Tbh until there's been some discussion about what should be in and what should be out the light version is not recommended. There's literally too many apps and too many Samsung goodies to know whats right to remove.
The once we agree on the best minimum apps for a base, I'll just use that for updates and the other apps can come in a range flashable packages.
For now the recommended way to debloat is just use titanium backup.

Those few who have downloaded the Light version, how is it? Did it boot? I remove anything that needs putting back in? Is there anything still there you would consider bloat?
Is the bloated version deodexed, zip aligned etc?
Yes. The only difference is a number of system apps are removed in the light version.

Dang the re branding broke s note. Can't fix until tomorrow. Probably just need to push a different s note app (has someone optimised that awful app yet?)
It's uploading anyway if it doesn't fail I'll post link but flashing it without at least removing the s note app will result in infinite FCs. It's otherwise untested.

So does this mean that all international ROMs should work with our device? Pretty sure the hardware is identical (although I might be wrong - correct me if I am) so I see no reason why they wouldn't. Would love some insight from someone with more knowledge, however.

Yes I am currently running the Omega v1.3 rom
I am running it and it works Absolutely perfectly! If anyone is also having a problem with Shealth working after installing Xposed it seems to fix it. Just a few warning thought that I thought I would post.
1) After flashing it will flash all your internal storage - Backup everything first, Also I would move the zip to an external Sdcard before flashing.
2) Even if you select no wipe in aroma while upgrading, it still seems to wipe everything including your internal storage.

Yeah, I was thinking about trying to get permissions of a few international roms to try and alter the upater script and edit a few things to make them more compatible with the us roms.
There are several INT'L ROMs that work great with TMO USA S5.

Wifi calling is a tmobile specific addition, so won't be included in international roms.

I have flashed EVERY ROM that has been posted on the International S5 threads and they all work with the TMOBILE S5
Alliance Rom is phenomenal - Omega is great - so is Echo - The only thing yoiu have to get used to is that you lose WiFi calling. I am using a TMOBILE S5 on the ATT network so it doesn't matter to me anyway - ATT doesn't support WiFi calling - but to be honest, the benefits of flahsing these roms far outweighs the benefits of Wifi Calling. (IMHO anyway)
NO special steps are needed - EXCEPT - when you flash an International ROM be prepared - they do usually wipe the Internal SD card. So make a back up of the important files (like Titanium Backup for example)
while we wait for TMO development to get underway - at least you have a few very good roms you can play with.
Good luck and happy flashing!

[MOD] NK4 HotSpot Fix & Extended Boot Menu ODEXED

Here is a HotSpot mod for NK4 devices. I did the smali edits from memory and put this together in 10 minutes so please let me know if there are any issues. It is working on my device but make a backup. Requires busybox installed for the installer.
This is for ODEXED ROMS! This is NOT DEODEXED! Don't yell at me if you can't read
Added seperate Extended Boot Menu Mod. Same rules apply.
Could you make one for the NKD build if I send you the needed file's?
The smali edits would be easy enough, However, I'm not sure how to 'odex' it and how things are affected since ART is implemented in the latest version replacing the Dalvik cache.
Short answer. I don't know....
I guess I need to install it at some point and figure out how it works
There's been quite a few downloads and no feedback whatsoever so I'll assume the mods are working?

Hi townsenk;
I thin the majority of users\downloaders are on tdunham's stock 4.4.4 and deodex. At least that is my case. I'm trying to get hotstpot working and have been thus far unsuccessful. If you feel like making a Deodex version I will definitely be on the top of the list for a test. Galaxy tools have been unable to fix my issue. I am able to advertise the hotspot put no devices can connect. They hang on the obtaining IP screen.

I can deodex the extended reboot mod if needed, provided I get some feedback that the deodexed hotspot version is even working. Like I said, I have no easy way to test deodexed versions and rely on simple comments like "It's Working" or "You blew up my Phone You Jerk!"

Flashed and cleared cache. Broke my wifi. I get authentication error when trying to connect to an access point now.
Hotspot has same issue trying to assign IP. I didn't make a backup of just the services.jar (yea, know I should have). Instead just restoring a full backup with TWRP,
:EDIT: The restore did not fix the authentication error. After restore, I simply did the turn off wifi and data, turn on Airplane mode, Turn back on Wifi and that fixed it so I probably could have done that in the first place. I wanted to confirm this backup though so happy since it was a full modem\EFS (everything checked) backup.
Thank you for trying.

Are you using Xposed, Custom kernel or any mods or xml edits that may be affecting this?
The reason I ask is that the fact that an ip address is not getting assigned should not be a side affect of the mod regardless of it being odexed or deodexed. I also had no success in using the one click hotspot app. (which is what prompted me to do the mod in the first place). I also restored the system once it failed because I felt it may have left some undesired edits behind. The only real way would be to do the mod on a clean deodexed install. I'm not asking you to do this because I know it's a pain. I may attempt this in the next day or so depending on the feedback I get in the meantime.
EDIT: User miked63017 is testing a different way to do the hotspot mod in a recent post. You may consider trying that. he may also have more insight on your specific issue.

I am now using a custom kernel but did try it with the stock kernel as well. It is weird that I don't get a complain from the Hotspot app but instead only get an issue with devices trying to connect. Maybe I'll try with a clean install over the weekend to see what happens.
No exposed. on tdunham's 4.4.4

Wow, this rom is really awesome and light so far it has proven to be a little better than slim Pickens only in the fact that it seems a bit more stable(slim pickens seems to degrade over time and act buggy/glitch) even After a full Factory reset. and I'm definitely enjoying the higher resolution or whatever has been done with the gfx. Not sure if your the creator, but either way thanks for sharing this with the community I don't see why this resolution option was not available in the stock rom.
Thank you, Yes im the creator. Let me know of any problems, Thank you again
Man get this ROM working right

So I've tried this speedy ROM again. And again I find more problems. I can't sync my Google contacts and the dialer u got sucks, ijs I like the ROM but I can't deal if I have no contacts and ah good syncing. Please look into this. Reverting back to slim till this prob get fixed. Errthang else Is good. Juz look at the contact syncing when u open the dialer. I prefer the stock dialer. At least I can syn m contacts to it. Thank you for ur time..

Ah okay thanks so much for the effort and mods, I didn't read the part about not using twrp to flash supersu so maybe that is why I am experiencing some buggy issuest

SuperSU Binary will not install
So far I like the ROM. I can't seem to get SuperSU to update the binary. Any thoughts as to why?

Yea, theres a bug in the latest SuperSU,if you delete the apk out of the pri-app folder and install SuperSU from the play store I'll update. I have since fixed the issue in the latest upload
