I've been using a custom ROM and Kernel for the past couple of days and I've been wondering if and where i can find the ROM and Kernel I had before. You know, just in case.
Phone: Xperia P JB 4.1.2
Build Number: 6.2.A.1.100
Root: Yes
Bootloader: Unlocked
I actually want to know if/were i can get THE OFFICIAL Rom/Firmware and Kernel that Sony provides.
Kernel was 3.0.8.
If you need more information or something isn't clear feel free to ask

You have to find the ftf file for the Xperia P. You can take a look or in the development or the general section
You have to use the flashtool on order to flash the ftf file.
If you have any issues feel free to ask

Thanks a ton man! Is there a "special" method for flashing that? (Because it's split)
Also, you have any idea about Kernel 3.0.80?

Wxtract the ftf file with 7-Zip or other archiving software that can to it, put it flashtool's firmwares directory, and flash with flashtool.
It includes kernel 3.0.8.

Look. First of all (I have already told you that in another thread i have posted) thanks for tolerating my lack of knowledge.
I have an unknown issue (to me atleast - lol) and i cannot boot to CWM. Not manually either via ROM Manager or by holding power button and choosing "Reboot to CWM". Therefore i cannot make a Nandroid back up (I will explain later why I want to). Some hours ago I copied the previous Nandroid Backup to my PC to save some space on the SD (Backup and Blobs Folders), but i haven't deleted them from SD yet.
After i unplugged my phone i couldn't access CWM. My phone is also starting to get preety laggy. (I set some CPU settings with setCPU to save battery)
Therefore what i have in mind to do is the following.
1.Fixing (somehow) CWM so i can make a Nandroid of the current status. (Is it possible to make partial backup - eg only contacts)
2. Factory/data reset. (Is there a way i can do that and then retrieve only Contacts, Apps, Apps' data, Apk's?)
3. Flash Stock Firmware (and automatically get my stock Kernel back - as you mentrioned)
4. Flash another Custom Kernel (Or not. I haven't decided which is best)
5. Flash Custom ROM
6. Restore any data I can without damagin my phone or getting it to its previous state.
Current ROM: Enigma v6.4
Current Kernel: Nemesis V6.3
I don't know if this is the correct order for things to be done.
Why complicate things? Make full backup with titabium backup.

Yes, and of course.
Your phone will be with stock firmware and factory reset.
If you haven't used flashtool before, delete everything in it's firmwares directory before you copy the firmware and flash it, not to flash the wrong file by mistake.

no need to root it to install CM11, just flash the kernel (boot.img) from the zip file with fastboot or flashtool fastboot mode, and install it.
Do not forget to copy the zip file before you flash the kernel.

I've recently bought this phone and now I'm willing to install a custom ROM (like FXP CM9.0).
I know that before anything I should unlock the bootloader of my phone. I don't care about DRM things, so I could just go to http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and follow the procedure there, right?
After, what should I do? Do I need to install CWM (from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345741) to be able to flash the ROM?
I've read in another topic of this section someone telling the user to follow the procedure of this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613.
That topic teaches you how to unlock bootloader, but can't I just do that using Sony Ericsson's own method?

Is not needed.
First, unlock bootloader.
Second, copy ROM .zip file to SD card, install custom kernel, most of them include already CWM.
Third, enter CWM and install custom ROM.
That last topic, it is the same as on official Sony method, but it is brought everything to one app, so you don't need to get the code yourself or use fastboot, just insert IMEI and let the app do it.
Haven't tested myself, so unaware of it.

I didn't look into FXP CM9.0 files. Does it include a proper kernel with CWM to work with that ROM?
Also, FXP recommends users to install "SEMC BASEBAND 64".
Do I install it before using CWM to "install from ZIP" the FXP CM9.0 ROM?
Also, how do I install that baseband? Using Flashtool? Does SEUS already install the latest baseband if I use it to update my phone?
Sorry for so many questions.
Check your baseband version from settings-about phone, 2 last numbers. Not familiar with it, because I haven't used CM, not stable enough for me.
CM includes kernel, it is the boot.img file, already in the zip. Just extract the boot.img, then place zip file to sdcard.
Don't worry about the questions, we all were beginners one time.

So I need to use Flashtools to flash that boot.img (custom kernel with CWM) into my phone, right?
After flashing, I power on my phone and enter into CWM mode to wipe memory and then flash the firmware using the ROM's .zip file that is in SD Card.
Is that the right procedure (obviously assuming that I've unlocked the bootloader before)?

i personally used the SE Bootloader Unlocking v1.6 by quangnhut123 to unlock bootloader and flash custom kernel
then just copy rom on your sd card
boot into cwn, wipe data, cache partition and dalvik cache.
then install zip file of the custom rom.
reboot. and do another reboot. done.

I have a xperia mini st15i-1.locked bootloader. 2.Unrooted. For rooting purpose i flash with a .42 based ftf file using flash tool and then i root my phone and install cwm by market app. Then I put the file to the to sd card and install it using aroma installer after wiping -1.cache,factory reset 2.format data 3.format system 4.format cache 5.format dalvik cache. Installation completes and when the device is rebooted it stcks after showing the boot animation.Dont know whats wrong. Please help I am tired of trying all this thing repetitively but no luck for me.
Which ROM did you flash? Which kernel are you using? If it's an ICS based ROM, and you're on a .42 GB, obviously enough the phone won't boot properly.

What is meant by ics based rom??
It means that they are developed starting from official Sony ICS ROM. Therefore, they will only work if you are using ICS kernel.
Do this:
-Download from HERE Mini's ICS firmware.
-Use Flashtool to flash only the kernel: this means you have to select the ICS .ftf and then uncheck all "Wipe" boxes. Then check all "Exclude" voices, but leave "Exclude kernel" unchecked.
-After flashing the kernel, you should be able to boot.

Thnxx....But if I want to install those roms then what should I do?Do I have to root the ICS?? I have this ftf and just flashed but I lost root access.
Well, you lost root access because you didn't do what I told you to do.
So why should I tell you what to do next? You probably wouldn't do it.
So... you flashed ICS. Congratulations. Now, to root ICS, you have to flash GB back. Then root it. Then, you can:
a) Flash ICS following THIS tutorial to keep root. Then install CWM. Then, use CWM to flash the ROM.
b) Install CWM on GB. Use CWM to flash the ROM. And then you can do what I told you to do earlier. That is: ONLY. FLASH. ICS. KERNEL. Not the whole ROM. Otherwise, you'll have to start from the beginning.
Good Quote. CongratulATION

If you want jelly bean, there's Cyanogenmod 10 by FXP, JellyVanilla and Cyanogenmod 10 by expeacer.
The easiest way to flash a kernel is via flashtool. Just download flashtool and install it. Go to the installation folder and install the drivers. For unlocking bootloader, fastboot should work for you and sdk tools should be installed.
Download the rom you want and the recommend kernel , place the installation zip file on your sd card and go back to flashtool.
In flashtool you click on the flash and select fastboot mode. You turn off your device and hold down the volume up key while connecting to pc. The blue led will light up. Then you select the boot.img you downloaded first. It should be named boot.img, otherwise rename it. Just select it and flashtool will automaticly flash it.
CHECK THE LOG BEFORE YOU PLUG OFF DEVICE!! If there are no errors, just restart device and press volume down again and again. Then you are in cwm. Look in the tutorial how to install the rom what has to be formatted/wiped (like cache or data, etc) and do it like it's explained there. Then select install zip from sd card -> choose zip and install it.
Just reboot and enjoy
After seeing the links of jellybean roms i changed my mind. They have much problems! So could you suggest me an ICS rom?

In this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694027 link it says that it has auto root. This means tha if I flash this kernel then i can flash the ExMIUIv4 2.8.10 rom without rooting?
Miui rom already rooted by default. Such autoroot kernel will give problem with miui rom, u'll get superuser from the kernel and lbe guard from miui at the same time.
I've fixed such bugs in my kernel, try it if u want.

Ok, can you send me a link of your kernel?
So,
1) I flash your kernel using flashtool
2) I download CMW (when i have your kernel and the stock ics)
3) I flash the custom rom
This is all i have to do?
Look in dev subforum, my kernel thread is there.
Anyway:
1- flash kernel. Obviously your bootloader need to be unlock to do this.
2- cwm recovery already in kernel, dont need separate download/install for it. Just boot into cwm after u flashed kernel.
3- do factory reset from cwm, then do wipe dalvik cache.
4- flash rom.
5- reboot into rom.
6- profit

You don't need to download cwm, it's included in the kernel! Just flash kernel and reboot, while rebooting press volume down again and again!

You can unlock your bootloader officially, but you will lose your "DRM" . As a result, "track ID" and some features of "Facebook inside xperia" will never work again.Unlocking bootloader via "test point method" is somewhat hard. But it is the best way. That is how I've unlocked mine..!!

Hi all,
With my wife's xperia Ray I did the following:
- unlock bootloader (success)
- downgrade GB from 0.62 to version that could be rooted
- rooted
- installed x part so as to get CWM
Now I read threads over threads over threads and I still am not sure to understand how to successfully upgrade to a new Rom (whatever looks good, it's for my wife).
Let me recap what I understand I should do:
- obvisouly, download ROMS for ray (done, pa_urushi-2.57-20130112-235907-Utacka-singh_dd93.zip)
Now I should:
1 - MAKE BACKUP ( how ?)
2 - download rom zip file, store it somewhere on your SD card (I have a "FlashFiles" folder) (OK)
3 - copy boot.img from zip to pc, where you can find it OK
4 - flash kernel in ROM zip file in fastboot mode Does it matter to flash ICS or over kernel when system is GB ?
5 - reboot into recovery Means the flashed kernel has recovery included ?
6 - flash ROM
7 - flash gapps (or inverted gapps if you want)
8 - factory reset
9 - wipe cache
10 - wipe dalvik cache
11 - flash any other zip's you need/want to (e.g. wifi modules if you usin other kernel as in the zip)
12 - reboot
13 - enjoy
14 - click on THANKS button in szl's Original Post
Am I right ?
I read that thread to know what to do:

Why can't I just use the already installed CWM to flash the phone by the way ?
Aside from the annoying fact that everytime I tried to flash I get status 7 error, my ST18 says it's a ST18 instead of ST18i or ST18a (which it was before I flashed it with stock 0.42 to root it...)
AW: [Q] How to upgrade to ICS with Xperia Ray
You do the backup for all apps with titanium backup and after you have flashed the kernel from the zip (yes it has cwm included) you go to backup/restore and backup your rom
Status 7: open the zip, meta-inf -> com -> google -> android and open the updater script with notepad ++ and delete the first 3 lines containing getprop...
Now save the updater-script and pack the whole zip again. It will work :good:

Ok, overcame my terrible guilt of overwriting files, modified script (deleted the assert blah blah blah stuff until 2nd line start mount yaffs...).
Then tried to use CWM to install zip from SD Card, it stops after a few seconds "Installation aborted".
Same thing in both ROM I tried, PA 2,57 and FXP 202.
I don't want to try with fastboot because if I flash kernel then an unable to install the zip, I'll need to reflash the first ftf (or tft ?) from gingerbread "0.42" then root, then xparts... what a waste of time, and that will only get me to the point I am now...
Gonna look into threads and google it, but if some has ideas, I'll take them

I always thought that the files are different and only windows thinks they are the same, because windows thinks A=a, B=b, etc. It is something that seems to only happen with szl.kiev's ROMs. I would redownload the ROM if you don't have a clean version.

It looks to me like you are trying to upgrade from Gingerbread to JellyBean. In order to do that you will absolutely have to flash the JB kernel first and then use the recovery in the JB kernel to flash the ROM. The GB kernel won't be able to correctly flash the JB ROM and you will either get errors in cwm or you will end up in a boot loop. Unfortunately you will have to use flashtool/fastboot to install the kernel. This guide should have all the information you need: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792 Depending on the ROM/kernel you download the recovery maybe TWRP instead of CWM don't freak out if it looks different. Yeah, all good but, have you read this?
Is your device a GT I9100? Are you on 4.0.4? Got the brick bug? You know siyah is a safe kernel?

The thing is where you're flashing from.
And yes, only 4.0.4's kernel's dangerous.

If you want to go from stock ICS to stock JB you have no need to root.
All you do is simply reboot into download mode (Power on using Volume Up + Home + Power) then flash the JB md5 file via ODIN.
Once you have flashed the file you may find system wont boot into rom (this is normal). Just reboot into download mode and flash latest version of Siyah kernel (.tar file) which will be Siyah v6 beta4 (or above). This will give you cwm recovery, better battery life, root access, SU etc.
Go and have a look at some topics/search etc, All the info you need is already on here and if you try and take some shortcuts you may run into problems or even possibly brick your device so take some time and learn.
PS. Yes the eMMc brick bug is part of stock 4.0.4 kernel so just dont go into stock recovery. You can also brick device by your flash process getting interrupted so make sure you have drivers installed correctly (install kies) and taht you're not running any other programs while flashing and also that you have at least 55% battery.
It's a very good thing you are reading before getting the bad boy you intend to flash.
See the thing about this bug is when you make a back up, wipe things up from the recovery, and flash via oding. Once you do the wipes, you are kinda screwed.
Now, you got a couple of choices here:
1) Your device arrives with 4.0.4 ICS, flash siyah kernel (I'll get you off the hook).
2) Arrives with 4.0.3, you are good to go, no danger.
3) You can try mobile odin, it flashes with its own kernel and, apart from being fast, it's easy.
4) If you get a gingerbread version, you good as well.
That being said, I'd advice you to play with it for a couple of days instead of flashing right away.
Check out some videos, read something about ExynosAbuse (It'll get you rooted with one click) and revolv around the q&a section looking for "not to do list".
good luck and remember, keep on reading.
