[Q] Controlling Vibrator Programmatically - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to control (switch on/ off) the vibrator for KitKat 4.2 and above versions.
Actually, I need my app to switch off the vibrations completely (for all notifications) in case of a predetermined event. And switch back the vibrations to normal on detection of another event.

How to mute ringer and vibrator during meetings

I searched and found one thread that explains how to get the phone profile to automatically change to vibrate during meetings by changing the setting in the settings in "Sound&Display" from nomrmal to Auto which was already very useful to me and I did not knew about it before the search
However, I hate the vibrator and I want the ringer to mute completely, no ring and no vibrator. I can see the screen light.
Is there any way to do that weather with the system or with separate application
my best regards

[APP] PocketRing

Tagline:
Increase the ringer volume on incoming call whenever the phone is inside the pocket or bag.
( I know there is an option in Note II/S3 to increase ringer when phone is in pocket but I find it improperly working so later decided to release this app )
Great for:
Great for those who do not like to keep Ringer volume full all the time but when driving car/bike couldn’t hear the phone call (caller name) then PocketRing is the app for you!
Features:
Max Volume:
Set the maximum volume which is to be increased on incoming call whenever the phone is inside the pocket.
Respect Silent Mode:
Force ring in silent mode or to remain silent.(Keep it on if attending college/office)
(Force ring will cause to ring both the, default ringtone + custom contact ringtone.)
Sleep @ Night:
Suspend PocketRing from increasing volume in the night time of 10PM to 7AM. (Good to keep ON if you keep your cell phone beneath the pillow while sleeping.)
Auto Restore Ringer:
Restore ringer to the original value/state when taken out from the pocket/bag on incoming call.
Sensor Mode:
Select Proximity Sensor or Light Sensor as default.
Good to change to obtain more accuracy or your phone doesn’t have the defined default sensor.
Proximity Sensor:
Proximity sensor detects the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact.
Light Sensor:
Light sensor detects and measures the light.
PocketRing ON/OFF:
PocketRing can be enabled or disabled by long tapping on the name “PocketRing/PocketRing Pro” located above “Max Volume”
Power consumption:
PocketRing is optimized for battery and there won’t be any noticeable battery drain with the app.
Known Conflicts:
Voice Caller ID like apps with “Lower Ring Volume” option enabled causes to stop restoring volume sometimes.
Free Version: Ad Free - Free version is limited to set the Max Volume.

custom vibration issues

Hey guys,
I am running ICS. Like others, I am kind of frustrated that you cannot set separate volumes for incoming calls and notifications/texts.
It wasn't a huge deal, I could use Setting Profiles lite to put my phone on vibrate when I plug it into a charger, I could use a call blocker to prevent an incoming call from preventing my alarm from going off (it happens if I get a call at the same time the alarm is set to go off). But I ended up purchasing and installing ICS+ Enhanced Ringer Control, which separated volumes but didn't allow for enough customization over controls to be really convenient. It still would have generally worked well enough for me, especially since my speaker is broken and my device is automatically silent without a bluetooth speaker (so I wouldn't have to adjust ringer volume on the go), but...
Ever since installing (and subsequently uninstalling) Enhanced Ringer Control, custom vibration patterns no longer work for me - I mean they work but not for notifications/alerts. That means incoming calls and texts and e-mails are back to the same, generic, easy enough to miss patterns. I tried re-installing Smart Vibrator thinking permissions needed to be reset, but that did not work. I am assuming that re-installing Aqua Mail (which gives the option of a custom pattern for incoming e-mail) would also not work.
I e-mailed the developer of Enhanced Ringer Control, but I figured I might have better luck finding a fix here. Thanks in advance. I prefer custom vibration to "Enhanced Volume Control."

How do I change the vibration intensity on xperia tablet Z2

Hello,
I got a z2 wifi (SGP511). With the '402 and rooted stock ROM. I would like to decrease the vibration intensity of the 3 function buttons and lock screen (pin code protected).
I installed gravitybox in the hope I could do it with that, but I dont think it has that option (or I could not find..)
Does anyone know a way to do this?
I think you can only do that for individual apps, and only if those apps have a vibration intensity setting. Such as keyboard apps which let you choose the vibration intensity for key strokes. But even then it doesnt actually control the intensity but just the duration of the vibration (very short vibrations feel less intense)

How to turn off Vibration for notifications

Am trying to de-activate vibration for notifications while having notification sounds active - previous devices I've used have had the option to keep sound on (notifications, calls, alarms) but turn off vibration completely, whereas I can't find a way to leave sound on but turn vibration off.
Most notifications are for Whatsapp, have turned off Vibration for all settings I could find within Whatsapp settings. Can't find anything that relates specifically to Vibration in the Xperia settings though. Am running stock standard setup for the Compact (just purchased a few days ago).

If you're receiving vibration when sound is on, it's the app causing it. The regular "sound on" profile is for sound only. Your app should not vibrate unless you set the device to the vibrate profile but a lot of apps do it anyway. I don't use those apps.
