hi everyone
i'm really puzzled on how to flash Cyanogenmod rom on my xperia p
im running miui rom now and want to move to cyanogenmod, what do i need to do?
do i need to go through the first method or the 2nd method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/p-development/-t2626639
First time flashing CyanogenMod 11.0 your device, or coming from another ROM? You need to be on Unlocked bootloader
Fastboot kernel from the rom zip
Press power button when Device vibrates to enter CWM recovery
Format system,data and cache
Flash the Zip
Reboot
Issues?
Updating From Previous Version
Download the ROM zip from OTA apps or from given links
Reboot to recovery [Press power button when Device vibrates to enter CWM recovery]
Wipe cache and dalvik cache
Flash the ZIP
Reboot
Click to collapse

You need to go through the first method.
Miui is 4.1.

CWM recovery?

Is there a guide somewhere for how to use it?
If i want to flash a rom etc how?
How do I enter recovery and exit it?
Sent from my Xperia S on which The Kernel has been installed but he bought no chicken.....
1. enter recovery: spam vol + while the Sony logo is on screen
2. move into recovery: use vol up and down to navigate and Power to chose opionion
3. exit recovery: if you are somwhere intoe recoery, use the ***go Back*** function and if you are in to the first screen use ***reboot into System***
4. Flash a Rom: the rom must be as a zip file on the SD Card from the phone. boot into recovery and use "Install zip from SD" and then "chose Zip from SD", search the Rom and press yes, install the rom"
5. if you want to a real proper install, chose first "wipe Data/Factory reset" and say yes and go then to Advanced and chose "whipe Dalvik Cache" and say yes, and than look to the point four. Point five is needet if you downgrade a system or if you chose a complet different Customrom from tbe installed rom. if you update or want to repair a installed rom, Wipping data/factory reset is not needet, maybe Wipe dalvik-Cache also, but the Dalvik Wipe destroy no one of personal dates and to wipe them help to boot all apps proper
this are the important option of CWM, the most needet
Thanks! If you install a rom using it, say an ics update comes out, will i lose root like if you use flashtool? Or from now on will root and recovery stay no matter what?

Root and recovery will stay as long as you flash from recovery. Recovery is a part of the kernel image, so flashing a new Android version or using flashtool will replace your kernel with a different one that is not guaranteed to have recovery. This is only true for Sony devices, as most other vendors use a separate place to store the recovery files which means whatever you flash it should still be there.
So I'd have to flash a custom rom next as if i flash a sony one the kernel and recovery will be replaced again?
Sent from my Xperia S on which The Kernel has been installed but he bought no chicken.....
well excuse me i'm not so PRO in ROMs but i've tried at least
i don't think if you flash a custom ROM would remove recovery ... cuz when you flash a custom firmware you are using recovery with a ZIP file in your SD card to do so .... there are a lot of hard not understandable tutorials to tell you how so you just gotta try and i've always got a boot-loop and it SUCKS . thanks

[Q] Total noob, stuck at Sony logo after flashing ROM

Hey, I hope I can get some help here. I'm a total noob and I don't know if other similar threads apply to me. Anyway, I have a rooted Xperia Neo V, with ICS 4.0.3 and I used ROM Manager app to casually flash the "Xperia Pureness" ROM I downloaded. I didn't do a full wipe because I was too stupid to look at the instructions. Is this fixable?
download this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566871

Thank you. At some point the instructions require that I enter *#06# on my phone but I can't boot, it gets stuck at the Sony logo. Is this step necessary?
as can be interpreted u have a unlocked bootloader( i guess that's right)
you can try to use Sony Ericssion Update service to restore your phone to ICS
read this 1. http://communities-origin.sonyericsson.com/message/176189

see if it helps
I used SEUS to install stock rom . Now its working but all apps are gone.
so i can install any custom rom? Also did this happen because i didnt wipe dalvik cache bfore installing the rom.

Ya ..you can install custom ROMS now i hope u hv boot loader unlocked ..head over to the Neov development section and download the ROM you want ..Follow the instructions really carefully while installing ROMS
And the answer of your second question is NO. When installing stock ROM or repairing it all apps and setting are gone nothing to do with wipe dalvik cache
Problem persists
So i tried installing pureness once more, this time i made sure i wiped davik cache. Same problem stuck at SONY and so had to revert to stock once more. I havent unlocked BL yet. Is it necessary for installing Pureness. Also can somebody tell me if i am doing it right.
1) used flash tool to downgrade to .562
2)rooted using Doomlords tool
3)Used flash tool to upgrade back to .431
4)Installed cwm auto installer apk from google play
5)Installed cwm
6)Booted into recovery
7)Made a backup
8)Used install from zip option to install Pureness
9) reboot and its stuck
Cant even access cwm since its stuck at that point , so i cant use the backup also right.
First, flash a specific kernel for that ROM.. Look for the link for kernels in the above post!
Flash the kernel first.. Reboot into recovery... Wipe data, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache... And then install zip from sd card!
Reboot your phone! You'll be done now!
flashing kernel
I am guessing for flashing the kernel , i have to unlock bootloader.
You didn't unlock your bootloader?!
You definitely can't flash a custom kernel without unlocking it!
I suggest you go with the official Sony's way..
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
BL
but that will void my warranty right and i will no longer be able to use SEUS for reveting to stock.
Yea.. That would void your warranty!
But unlocking the bootloader will allow to install custom ROMs which shall be very fast and smooth as compared to the stock one... and I don't think you'll revert back to stock!
Though relocking can be done but you won't be able to update your phone through over the air updates!
It's your choice!
1. Unlock bootloader using sony's,
Method
2. Flash the custom kernel
3. Get into CWM
4.wipe delvic/data/battery stat
5. Install custom rom
6. Install gapps(if necessary)
7.wipe delvic
8. Reboot
That are common steps
Also use the recommended kernel by the developer
Also follow his instruction...if in doubt serch if still confused post here
Sent from my MT11i using xda app-developers app
Mods ftw
I dont want to unlock bootloader now. Presently having fun with different mods . Once i get tired of them , will try unlocking. Please suggest some useful mods.Currently installed Romcontrol by jjdoctor and walkman for ICS by thilinac.

1.first install any cm9 kernal
2. Boot into CWM recovery(by pressing the back key repeatedly when you see kernel logo & notification led)
3. Perform a full wipe (wipe data/factory rest, wipe cache partition & advanced > wipe dalvik cache)
4. Install JB ROM & if Google Apps is not yet included in your ROM install that too without rebooting
5. After that do NOT reboot, while still in CWM recovery, take your battery off >> wait 10 seconds & put it back again
6.Flash cm10 kernel using Flashtool then reboot.
Having same problem - solved (thanks @UP)
And when you turning ur phone on after rom install, disconnect USB

parandroid

Hello.
I want to instal parandroid on z ultra and i have some questions:
1) where can i found aospa/cm11 ZIP (from step 2 of instalation guid)
2) witch 4+ version is stable (nonbeta)
3) on z ultra have i the lateral bar with the home buton?
4) on this rom can move the app to sd, because on stock rom i can't(phone is rooted)
5) can i instal it on a full stock phone(only bootloader is unlocked, no recovery,no root), because i guess that the boot.img (from step 2 of instalation guid) is a kernel with recovery.
Thanck you.
Ps i tried to ask Beerbong or in his thread but i coudn't because i don't have 10 post.
1) In the CM11 thread
2) the boot.img is inside the CM zip
3) I don't understand
4) I don't know
5) Yes. You're right. That's why you have to flash the boot.img first, so you get Recovery

Oh, that's PIE and you can use that too if you want to.
I instal parandroid especialy for that option.
i don't find cm11.ZIP. I find only cm10. For 11 i find a link which link me to a sit where i can chose betwen more cm11 and i don't know which chose.

The boot.img in the Paranoid Android zip is fine. Extract that and flash it using fastboot/FlashTool. You'll now have a recovery with which you can install the Paranoid Android system. Access the recovery by powering on the device, then holding Volume Up as soon as the LED turns green.

As above for thr boot.img
Carbon has PIE as well, but build 18 seems a little unstable
One more question.
I read în s4 and nexus 5 parandroid threads and i saw the instructions in the next format:
Samsung
update to the last custom recovery
wipe data/factory reset
flash rom and gapps
wipe cache and dalvik
Nexus
1. UPDATE RECOVERY
2. FACTORY RESET (If coming from another rom or stock)
3. INSTALL ROM
4. INSTALL GAPPS
4. REBOOT
5. CUSTOM KERNELS MAY BREAK ROOT, SIMPLY RE-FLASH SUPERSU
At the z ultra they said that we need to instal rom and then to factory reset and then wipe data and dalvik.
Anyway. What make me suspicious is that factory reset after instal rom. I talk with somebody and he told me that i will brick my Phone if i will do that. So i want to do next instalation Guid:
1) flash a New ftf file(the last)
2) flash that boot.img( what i find in parandroid.ZIP)
3) factory reset.
4) wipe data(i saw that i can do it At the same time when info factory reset, because în twrp, At wipe option i can check all data(inclusive dalvik)
5) instal rom
6) instal gapps
7) do a again Point 4
8) flash su
9)it's done

Yes it should work.
Most custom ROMs only include cwm recovery.
It froze at the boot logo as the kernel and system were incompatible, if you had of rebooted (vol. up and power button) and entered cwm again you could have made a nandroid and then installed the ROM

[Q] Awhh C'mon, Help needed PA 3.99 Rc2 Z Ultra dilemma

My intentions are to run Paranoid Android 3.99 rc2 as shown here by this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2464072 On my Xperia Z Ultra
Phone is currently rooted and has a custom kernel installed all in compliance with this method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714511
Slightly frustrated as I thought that I was now ready to install Paranoid Android after unlocking bootloader, installing superuser and my recovery systems (TWRP) that came with the kernel I installed again for reference the kernel I am using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714511
But it seems that I will now need to repeat the entire process and install this kernel This rom uses a CM11.0 msm8974 kernel that complies with the version of PA 3.99 that I wish to run
Am I an idiot can I install PA 3.99 as done above with my current kernel and root access after all. or will I need to possibly downgrade to earlier firmware to install the suitable kernel adhering to the guide for installing PA 3.99 as linked above and if so how ?
As you can tell I am completely and utterly over my head. This is after all my first attempt at Rooting and flashing customs roms
Z Ultra info

You should be able to just flash PA from jackie's kernel without issue. Note though that PA probably comes with CWM not twrp (but I'm not sure) so make sure that if you have a backup made in TWRP also do one in CWM.
The zip for the ROM will contain its own kernel and recovery

Thank you, So no foreseeable issue will arise after using flash tools to load PA and Gapps in the same fashion as the PA guide without any further alteration to anything am I correct ?
Also Steps 2-4 in the PA guide confuse me especially after many people admit to not even doing them, Are they unnecessary
INSTRUCTIONS,
1. POWER OFF THE PHONE
2. HOLD VOL+ AND PLUG USB TO BOOT INTO FASTBOOT (BLUE LED)
3. fastboot flash boot boot.img (from aospa/cm11 zip)
4. fastboot reboot
5. ENTER RECOVERY, on boot led will be violet for 3'', during this period press vol+
6. INSTALL ROM (MIRROR) AND GAPPS
7. FACTORY RESET
8. WIPE CACHE & DALVIK CACHE
9. REBOOT

This is what I would as you already have recovery:
Copy PA and gapps to sdcard (say /internal/Download/)
Reboot to recovery
Hold vol + when LED is purple (CWM recovery)
Make nandroid backup of current system
Factory rest (wipe data)
Install ROM then gapps
Reboot to new system

Success, But also failure ! No matter what I do I cannot connect to my mobile network manualy put in Apns and the likes for nada.
My question, I used my backup and went back to normal root from earlier, Can I now just download and install the latest PA 4.4 and install it in the exact same fashion ?
As you can see I still do not have my head around Kernels

If you lose recovery or if the ROM fails to install the you will need to do the steps 1 - 4 from your post above
