Cannot boot into TWRP with Rom Manager - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I originally rooted my S3 with CWM Recovery, but now I want to switch over to TWRP. I downloaded it and installed it with ROM Manager, selected it as my recovery menu, but when it restarts, it still goes back to CWM. I can't figure it out anymore...
I'm running Resurrection Remix 4.4.2 for my rom if that helps.

Don't use rom manager, follow the instructions by the app author to flash your chosen recovery.

Go on TWRP site, download latest 2.7 for i9300 in .tar format and flash it using Odin. It takes less than a minute.

[Q] Now that I have verizon 2.2 tell me how to fix CWM recovery

yesterday iwasaperson was extremely helpful to me. Thanks. I took my fascinate back to stock 2.1 and allowed it to update to 2.2. I then rooted my phone by flashing CWM recovery using ODIN. (red version) I had installed two files to root of drive one update.zip and the other for rooting the phone Su-----.zip. I ran them using the red version and restarted the phone. The phone is now rooted but I can't get back to CWM recovery.
I tried the following: I have ROM manager and flashed CWM but it wom't take. If I try to go into recovery I get the stock Samsung blue menu. I am thinking I need a different (CWM recovery comptabile) kernel or mod to get this to work.
Can someone help?
You need to flash a kernel other than stock, rebooting with the stock kernel will revert back to blue recovery

why dont you just flash CWM in odin again?
I have flashed CWM again with odin. It still won't take

This (though in reverse order).
You need to reflash CWM by odin, go into Odin immediately upon the first boot (not using Rom Manager!), and flash a new kernel from the SDcard. The stock kernel will trash CWM if it gets a chance to boot.
saf66. any ones in mind and where I can obtain them. And as if I weren't asking enough questions. (Sorry I know I am) Methods to flash them?
Or any others of you please
Go into development at the top of page open stickies and nitsu has a list of kernels,a well as roms

Galaxy s3 GT bricked?

First off I know I shouldn't have done this before I was sure what I was doing, but I have done it.
I have used chainfires mobile odin pro to flash siyah's latest kernel to my rooted s3. i put the .tar on external sd. Opened mobile odin, opened file, and pressed flash. It said it's dangerous, I pressed continue and the phone immediatly rebooted, and is now stuck on boot loop.
I had never updated the phone from when it first came out, I just rooted and kept stock rom.
Any help much appreciated,
Thanks in advance.
Try to boot into download mode if this works you can flash a stock or custom Rom and kernel through Odin ans it should fix your problem.
Or try to boot into recovery and flash a custom Rom, either way should fix the bootloop.

As a precaution I'm going to ask if you have the American or international model.

Currently in download mode, going to try to install the latest kernel. Do you think that should work, or should I install custom rom?

I would say you just need to flash the kernel if that's all you changed, the Rom should be fine.

Did you choose kernel>open file>flash?

No files found.

I recently tried to install android revolution hd 2.2.0 and ran super wipe.I have put the rom on the sdcard too,so it isn't anymore and the normal bootup doesn't work,I am stuck in recovery and need a way to put that rom there to flash it..does the window explorer work in recovery mode?

If you have the stock Rom flash it via Odin.
Cwm sometimes mounts the external sd card but sometimes doesn't.. don't know how it is for others but it isn't working properly for me.
Go to mount and storage in Cwm for mounting sdcard.

I removed the battery because it was not charging and I thought I won't can flash any rom with the battery low,so I will seek more advices before turning it back on,so..
Wipe removed all my files, including stock rom,but I don't know if volume down + power + home button will work.Well I went into choose zip from sdcard and they all were there,I ran super wipe as it was said in the flash tutorial and it deleted almost everything,I am stuck into recovery and I cannot enter sdcard because there are no files anymore, such as the rom needed to be flashed.
If I mount sdcard n the mount and storage in cwm will windows explorer be able to put the rom back there? So i can flash it with.
update: volume down+home+power works perfectly, should I flash the rom with odin directly? the sdcard is empty too.

If you can get into download mode then you should easily be able to flash via Odin.
Do a search in the forum because there are many guides about flashing through Odin.

I will flash stock rom then I will try again to do android revolution hd 2.2.0 ( the step I missed is about creating a virtual ssd )
I will come with an update if the flash stock rom through odin works.
Checkrom comes in two versions, one is Odin flashable, flash that.then u are rooted after flashing
Next time u use superwipe remember to move the rom to EXTERNAL SD-card ,because internal SD-card is wiped.
Weird..odin exits after a while it says Please wait then it quits, while trying to flash stock rom, what's the problem?
I found a way to put the rom back there, but it is in sdcard, and I cannot enter it ( cannot mount )
How can I solve this from the recovery mode? I am still stuck in recovery mode or download mode..and the rom is on the card now,but cannot access to flash it with cwm
Why do not you just boot?
Previous rom is there but wiped and restored.
I do not think that superwipe was made to empty system from the rom.

The rom had to be put on a virtual/external sdcard, but because I didn't read carefully I put it on sdcard aslong with superwipe,so after I launched superwipe it deleted the sdcard files and the stock OS too,so it just says samsung galaxy siii like before it boots, but it stays that way..
I don't know how to get into the sdcard, cwm recovery says it cannot mount it,sdcard contains my rom,and because I cannot access it,I cannot flash it..I need a way to help cwm to mount sdcard,so I can flash it from there..
Otherwise I tried flashing stock rom but odin crashes, like I press start, then it says check md5 then Please wait,it gets stuck and quits..
Which recovery do you have? Is it the touch cwm?
Flash 5.5.0.4 1.5 from chainfire. Make sure when running odin nothing from kies is running in the background and make sure you do not tick re-partition.

It is not touch cwm..it is a normal cwm from what I have seen.
Can you give me the exact version ( including link )to flash with odin? I think it does not charge and I always get off the battery from it when I try something new and it does not work.
edit: CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4 :: CF -v1.3

Then i need to tell you that you must flash through Odin a full rom then reroot and then flash again a custom rom of your choice.
Just make sure every time you flash with Odin nothing from Kies runs in the background. Otherwise Odin flash will fail or stuck.

Its checking md5, that takes a few minutes.
Boot into download mode (volume down+home+power, press up when it says are you sure) then flash via Odin.

Phone stuck in recovery mode

I've just downloaded the latest CM10 ready to flash, booted into recovery but now I can't get out. its glitchingwhen I try to move between the menus and the power button to select doesnt do anything.
I've tried pulling the battery out, tried rebooting by holding down the power button, but all ends up back in recovery where I can't do anything.
Never had a problem with it before, phones been working fine and haven't changed anything since booting into recovery, CWM version is 5.8.4.0.
Any suggestions?
When it boots into recovery, try flashing the zip again. Worked for me when flashing CM9 on my SGS.
Can you get into download mode?

I managed to get out of it, but had to spend quite a while pressing buttons. It's glitching all over the place!
Trying to update CWM through ROM manager but that seems to keep on crashing too. Can I just find and flash the latest CWM Touch to update it and stop it glitching?
Don't use ROM manager to flash anything, use Odin or mobile Odin.
In fact, use Odin to flash cf-root, it roots and flashed cwm at the same time.

Oh I did that ages ago, I was talking about updating to the latest version of cwm. Is the best way just grabbing the latest zip from the thread in general discussion and flashing it?
And the only reason I wanted to flash through ROM manager is because recovery mode was glitching so couldn't navigate through the menus properly.

Yep, get the .tar and flash of with Odin or mobile Odin and that's the best way.
In future if recovery is glitchy just boot into download mode and flash a new recovery, I've had issues similar to yours on my galaxy nexus when touch recoveries came out first, flashed back to "classic" cwm and perfect.

Help with flashing cutom Roms to Galaxy player 5.0 US version

Hi! I have my Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 rooted and running the stock ROM and android 2.3.6. I have installed CWM recovery, and ROM manager. Now here is the issue. I have downloaded PAC ROM, CM 10.1, and CM 9. And none of them will install!! I am so confused... I try it manually with CWM and with ROM manager... Each time I wipe cache, data reset, and wipe dalvik cache if using manual CWM... So I have no idea why this shouldn't work! Please help me thank you!

Not to sure, but i think in order to go from stock to 10.1 you need to get cm9 in there first, same also assuming that you are trying the latest pac which is android 4.3. Can you list down your steps that you did in exact order? also assuming you did all the root and everything since you said you can boot into cwm.
Well here is what I have done.
1. Rooted the galaxy player with framaroot
2. Used Odin to flash a .tar file which gave me cwm
3. Downloaded all the Roms I said, two are on the SD card and 1 is on the internal storage
4. Installed Rom Manager
5. Have tried using ROM manager and just manually using CWM recovery to install each of the Roms.
6. ROM manager says the files don't exist(which they do)
7. Cwm recovery says an error occurred and its like "error or section 7" something like that... Why is this happening? It sounds like I'm doing everything right....

This post talks about recovering from being bricked but can be applied to getting a custom rom into you sgp5 in general. note the download link for Galaxy player bootloaders already contains odin the pit file and the tar file. this is however only to get it to cwm and install a rom you already have on sd card or internal memory. You would start on step 4 since your not bricked, past step 4 is just getting it into cwm to load roms.

Geez... OK, I can't be certain but I don't think ROM manager works for gp5. You need to flash a kernel that has cwm recovery such as entropy's daily driver. From there you can flash directly to cm10.1 or cm10.2 you just need to wipe everything first(including system)...
