.info files are designed for computers so I don't think you have one on your mobile.

Whenever I download a rar file, it just shows up as a .bin on both the notification bar and in root explorer. Is there a setting I need to change to allow rar files tobe downloaded?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
There's no reason why you would need to, usually just changing the extension works for me.
*note* there has to be something in front of the .bin for it to work in a lot of cases "randomname.bin" for example

You shouldn't even have to change the extension. I use unrar pro, point to the file using estrongs file explorer and it extracts the contents.

Probably a dumb question, but I searched and can't find the answer...I am trying to download a.txt file in chrome and it keeps opening a new window and showing me the contents..I need to remove the .txt extension and put the file in my system directory for a fix on vvm. I would just copy and paste and save it in a new file but I don't know what kind of program to save code in. Thanks for your help

A family member has the Galaxy S3 and it is completely stock, non rooted and so on, and i know the phone does not need to be rooted to install apk files.
The problem is that i have copied over the apk file that i want onto his S3 but his phone, no matter what file explorer you use, just will not see the apk files at all, the fines worked fine on my Sensation and DHD and One X, but i just can not get the phone to see the apk files,
any idea's on what is causing the phone to not see the files?
cheers

you sure they are named as .apk file and not .zip? you should be able to see the filename without the .apk in myfiles for example (myapp.apk will appear as myapp), you will also have to check allow install from unknown sources in the security menu in settings..
yes its named .apk
i have not changed anything about the apk files from installing them on my other phones as i said, the DHD and the Sensation are both rooted but my One X is not rooted and that was able to see the apk file and install it, i seriously have no idea on why the S3 is not seeing them at all and that is after searching online for info
also i have enabled the use on non-market applications to be installed, but that is no use if the phone cant see the .apk files to install it in the first place
How you transferred the file to GS3? Is the file visible when connected to PC?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I connected the S3 to the PC via the USB cable and transferred the apk that way to the SD Card, when the phone is connected to the PC i can see the apk

getting my files to show hidden files did not work.
what it is that i'm trying to install a game, there is a data folder that has to be transferred onto the phone as well, it goes into the Android\obb folder on the sdcard, i created the folder and copied over the files into the folder, the phone.... using my files, astro or es explorer still will not see that folder i created for the files or the apk file itself that has to be installed for these files to be used.
also i tried it on a friends stock, non-rooted Galaxy S2 and it could see the files and it installed first time with no problems so right now i have no idea on what is going on with the Galaxy S3
Sorted, i know what it was, me being a tit....
when you open astro, it starts off in the SDcard folder... the samsung see's the built in memory as the SDcard.. to see the actual SDcard (the removable one lol) i have to select extSCcard..
Am i a tit or what lol
Cheers for the help anyway guys
much appreciated

Just open the original .apk in 7-Zip, find the files, delete them and then put your new ones in. The have to be exactly the same name. You don't need to decode the apk or resign it.
Some apks won't work like this but very few in the end so you should be okay.

when i did this the app don't install on my device..
The 7-zip method not always will work. I use that to edit cyanogenmod themes to best fit my phone, but sometimes I can't install the apk, neither through adb nor file manager

Try smali the whole apk , replace the pictures then compile it again, using Apk tool.
I'll do this on the go a the time as a matter of fact I did the tsfshell PCB blue theme with the traverse grapheme icons earlier...I do it by using root explorer extract the app and replace whatever you want as long as the file names are the same when done zip everything back up and rename from zip to app then move to system apps or data apps set proper permissions and reboot .....I do it from my cell hope this helps

Then the apk is NOT decompiled.. what are you using to decompile?
Xml's will show with proper words once the apk has been Decompiled properly

Adding on here you will need to use something such as ApkMultiTool to decompile your apk file then load the XML file. I'm guessing your were using something such as 7-zip to extract the apk file contents which is not the same as decompiling with a proper apk decompiling tool.

As previously mentioned you will need to use a apk tool such as this one, rather then 7-zip to decompile the apk's containing XML files. Once you have de-compiled the apk you will see the de-compiled apk in an output folder which you can then find the XML's you want to edit using Notepad++. Once you have made the changes that you want to, save the XML file as you would another file in Notepad++. Then go back to the apk tool you used and re-compile your apk file, if it's a non-system app make sure to sign the app as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.
