Fantastic news, but if the rumours are true about the new features not being included, I can see why retention rates are so low with Sony devices.
Obviously by not back porting new features, it's their way of encouraging sales of new devices.
Not that I'm complaining about KitKat though

If you think a bit you know why they aren't included (yet). After Z2 release we might get them, before Z2 release? No that wouldn't be a good marketing strategy for Z2.

Hurray
I am so happy its coming :highfive::good:.... this is one of the primary reason I bought the phone from manufacturer, so we can get the update. Rather than wait for AT&T to roll out or not roll out. Obviously this one wasnt with any manuf anyways.
I just connected my C6806 to PC companion to check ... no update yet, it might be available later in the day for this model.
Official changelog from the Sony website:
Introducing Android 4.4.2 KitKat with many new features and enhancements
Updated Camera application and overall tuning to improve the camera experience
Enhanced email app
Stability, performance & battery improvements
I hope sony doesn't include bloatware 3rd party apps as there were rumors on it recently..
would be great if they include "move to SD" for apps
Confirmed rolled out in India C6802

SUS is downloading 972 MB right now - the 136 version was something around 880 MB. Hmmmm. I flashed my self-created 257 Europe LTE a few minutes ago to see if that one is getting the update. Germany LTE 136 was only loading itself again and again via SUS.
updating z ultra germany version
anybody getting their update on C6802 in USA?
Just checked SUS and have a 966.1mb update available for UK C6833.

I like the new phone lock/unlock sound too.

4.2 it's still called jelly bean..
it is a featureful minor update....
The new update includes camera and swype function (which wee had since 2.3) & some tablet new updates...
But still waiting for JB .. I see no ray of light for that this year...

It also has UI and accessibility improvements as well as optimized software for improved battery life.
For only $300 unlocked no contract I'm tempted to trade my Xperia S for a white Nexus 4.

I agree that Sony is little slow in giving updates but it doesn't mean that they leave support to their devices like Samsung Did for their Galaxy R.
Be patient we will get update soon.

That was exactly my thought when I was going to change device.
I thought about it for a second and then I got the ZU instead.
Reasons for my choice?
-old processor
-no sd slot
-extreme fragility
-LG
-no LTE
-no USB OTG
And others that do not come to mind right now.
I agree, it's cool to have the latest OS, but going through several devices I came to the conclusion that it's better to have a .1 revision less but more stability instead of the latest rushed just to have it.
If I feel the need to have more I always have custom ROMs.
And hey, my wife's Z had 4.1.2 when she got it, and a few months later it was updated to 4.2.2, so I'm not feeling "left out" by Sony in terms of updates.

Feel the same too, Sony seems to keep they devices up to date very well, but I can understand they do not want to make so many different updates. 4.3 and 4.4 come far too close for give want to company to update all the time.

I guess if you have to have the latest OS you just need to install a custom Rom..
I've surprised myself this time though.. I've just stayed at the stock rom with Xposed etc installed.
I could never have done that with my old Samsung device, but the Sony experience is much closer to stock.
same problem...still waiting for Sony to update...others have made it already..but dnt know for what Sony is waiting.....

Jeez, I'm used to Samsung update cycle which was pretty slow. November would be pretty good in my opinion for an update. I'm a fan of Sony launcher so far, as other people have said it's very close to stock which suits me well.

I wouldn't mind skipping from 4.2 to 4.4 since 4.3 doesn't really have a whole lot of features that I'm interested in. I'm getting a Nexus 5 as my main device anyways though, so the Ultra will be more for music and comics.
I'm running 4.3 now... obviously CM10.2...
But that latest update coming 4.3.1 is only 10mb... stated as... "stability and improvement fixes"
I think we need to get out of the mindset that an 'update' is actually going to make our life better. Sometimes the update is more of a parallel move, and not a linea increase...

I just open this thread to discuss about Android 4.4 KitKat for our lovely Novathor Devices
So here's my opinion:
I still have hope that Sony will update our Novathor Devices. Google announced that KitKat is fitting on 512MB devices well so it's not impossible Some people here lost theri hope on official updates from Sony but not me!
So what's your opinion about it?

Google itself won't update their Galaxy Nexus (http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/31/5051958/google-galaxy-nexus-will-not-be-upgraded-android-4-4-kit-kat) and its even more capable of running kitkat for it has 1Gb of ram...http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_nexus_i9250-4219.php
i will just wait for the wonderful works of the awesome developers here in xda
I would like an official update by Sony. It should cover things like floating touch and would bring my dead ICS XPeria Sola back to life. I'm not an optimist, let's hope I'm wrong.

Then you are most probably wrong. Stop hoping. Xperia U, Go, P and Sola will not get anymore updates:
-Novathor is dead, ST-Ericsson already closed its doors.
-Sony will rather focus it's resources on more expensive phones like Xperia S, T,Z and Z1 rather than low-mid range phones like Xperia U or Go.
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
Yes, dont hope to get the official update from Sony. You will be disappointed. Also our devs don't have necessary drivers for our hardware, so it is difficult to make a fully working 4.4 Rom. Hope our devs here will make our devices run on 4.4 with only few acceptable issues.

If Sony didn't even updated their last year's flagship models, why would they update midrange phones? Even Google themselves won't update the Galaxy Nexus, even though it's more than capable to run Kit Kat.
Hmm maybe Android 4.4 KitKat isn't all about lower requirement. Maybe its Android 5.0 that we waiting and they should name it Android 5.0 LEPO (LOW END PHONE ONLY)

4.4.2 is the reason why z2 has wifi ,bluetooth and avg load issues... some more, 4.4.3 will fix all of that and 4.4.4 is a security improvement from 443
in short 4.4.2 is causing minor lag and wifi, bluetooth and mobile data connection issues

Yes , I think so, I won't make big different compare to 4.4.2
Z1, Z1c users report that 4.4.4 has brought their phone a better battery life instead of new features.
Android maybe we'll get next year with "limited" features or we have to wait after Z4 announcement. Just like what they did to Z1, Z1c and Z Ultra (Got kitkat after Z2 release)
I think we go directly to android L

What are the odds. I'd say it's a dead cert. I'd say the z2 will also be updated to the android version that launches with the new nexus in October too.
