There's either an issue with the cord, the PC's USB ports, or most likely, is that the driver is not loading correctly or is the incorrect one. Open your Device Manager on the PC while you plug it in and see what it displays. If it comes up with a yellow warning sign next to it, you just have to load the drivers manually. I've never really messed around with a lot of MediaTek based devices, but think there are 2 separate drivers - one specifically for that mode.
You might be able to find some helpful hints on how to load these drivers from the first few posts on this thread:

[Q] Need some unbricking recommendations...

I might have missed the perfect advice in searching here and there, but I couldn't find it, so I'm asking here.
I tried applying a nightly build for Cyanogen for Vibrant and now the phone is basically bricked.
It starts up, shows the Vibrant logo, brightens a bit, then shows a screen that in a second or two fills with random color noise, then restarts. This cycle repeats until I pop out the battery.
My model apparently won't respond to vol/power keypress combos to activate recovery or download mode so that was out.
I bought a microUSB jig and was able to get in download mode but ODIN doesn't ever recognize it.
I tried the adbtool to send it into recovery but it doesn't see the phone either.
I tried the AIO Vibrant Toolbox to reinstall drivers/odin/etc and it didn't help.
Finally just watching device manager seems to indicate that plugging it in and out doesn't absolutely nothing. Windows XP never sees a connection. I tried on a Windows 7 machine with similar results.
Any suggestions? Out of warranty so that means no replacement.
Thanks.
Kermit Woodall
Since you flashed cm7 you will need to install the Nexus S drivers. The regular Vibrant drivers will not work so that is likely why ODIN wont recognize the device. If you can get into download mode you shouldn't be hard bricked. Here is a link to download the Nexus S drivers (I believe this is the one I used)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8116690/Nexus S drivers.zip you might have to manually install this.

This. If you are able to enter into Download Mode, you aren't bricked (unless you have a really really really bad luck).
This was extracted from the CM7 Q&A Thread on the Q&A section:

Q: Where can I get the Nexus S drivers?
A: Download and install the Android SDK here then download "Google USB Driver package, revision 4"
Once downloaded, right click on "Computer", "Manage", "Device Manager", "Nexus S", "Update Driver Software", and point it to wherever you isntalled the SDK

Djluis, Good write up and assist...........
Thanks - I did try the above but when my phone is connected via USB the computer doesn't react at all. It's like I haven't plugged anything in. My other phone, a Nexus One, is recognized though.
Any ideas on how to force the install of these drivers before I have to pay connexion2005 for his services?
Thanks.

Uninstall Samsung drivers, reboot PC, install drivers from aio box found in sticky thread or from samsung website. It should work. Also try heimdall if odin still doesn't work.
Sent from samsung vibrant
Tried the uninstall - no luck.
One issue... I'm not sure that USB Debugging Mode was selected before this all started. Could that be my problem?

Hi,
try a different usb port and different usb cable
No luck. I suspect that this unit has a slightly bad USB port as well. Fortunately unbricking is affordable so that's what I'll have to do.
Thanks everyone for your advice.

go to best buy, get a blackberry or HTC usb cord. most if the "bad" usb ports are the sh*T%y korean cords ( not knocking the people, just the company )
Thanks - I actually tried several USB cables - including some HTC and a Motorola one. None worked w/the phone - but worked fine with any other phone.

[Q] Vibrant soft bricked, can get to download mode, windows doesn't recognize device.

People!, I'm about to pull all my hair out on this one
Vibrant is soft bricked in a boot loop after a incomplete flash, I am able to get it into download mode but both my windows machines say USB device isnot recognized, and thus, I cant use ODIN to return to stock. When I try to manually point windows to the samsung drivers I get nothing…
So far I have tried drivers from:
-Bay_wolf's AIO Vibrant Toolbox 2.5
-USB drivers for vibrant from samsung support site
-Drivers from samsung keyes
Side notes that might help: I was perviously using a Hellybean Rom. My device displays "Galaxy S gt-9000" on boot... not sure when that came to be but maybe some rom changed some important recognition stuff??...
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008383 but no help...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Try a different USB cable. This happens more than you'd think. Even cables that have worked just fine hundreds of times.
Also.... Locate the drivers in system/device manager and delete them manually and try to install them again. Unplug device and install fresh ones from either aio toolbox or Kies, then plug phone back in.
Best of luck!

Thanks a ton for reply but, sadly, no dice.
Tried connecting the phone, getting the "unrecognized device" prompt, finding "unknown device" in device manager, right clicking to uninstall. rebooting my machine, using various install methods to re-install drivers, re-connecting, and nothing.. same issue...
I lost the original cable a while back, but can't accept that NONE of the other 5 cables used are all broke... specially if the computer recognizes something going on... is it worth buying a new one?
Losing hope here, been like this for 4 days now, think it's time to go get a new phone. :crying:
Even so, it would have been nice to get what was a perfectly working phone back if only to keep it as a mp3 payer.
If anybody in New York, NY has a working odin set up that can do this for me, I have a 6 pack of your favorite beer with your name on it.
It could be a hardbrick such as bootloader getting corrupted that happened to my Sony Xperia Play (now an expensive paper weight).
I assume you boot into download mode by holding the two volume buttons, then connect the cable? Have you tried on a different PC? It can also be the weak powered USB port on the PC. Also when you uninstall the Samsung driver, check the option to also delete USB driver and uninstall any drivers. Also which version of the driver are you using, have you tried version Samsung USB Driver 1.5.3? And the drivers from here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-T959ZKATMB#
For what its worth, the gt i9000 screen appears after your on a custom GB boot loader and Odin back to stock (or probably Odin flashing any other ROM) you can change it by flashing the GB boot loader again. My phone says its a i9000 too, but I'm just about lazy enough to not bother changing it, lol.
So that's unrelated.

Ok, faith momentarily restored. But I have questions:
-What do you mean when you say "check the option to also delete USB driver and uninstall any drivers"? I dont get such a prompt from right clicking on "unknown device" and selecting uninstall? Is there another method to uninstalling drivers?
-In the link attached, I can only find "Device(Install),USB Driver (Software) (ver.1.0)" not the 1.5.3 version mentioned. What am i doing wrong here? currently searching google for the 1.5.3 but finding nothing.
I get into download mode by holding volume- up + power. Have 2 PCs ( win xp and win 7) and a mac running mountain lion (but never ever have been able to get Heimdall to work, so devoting time to odin.)
Thank you for the time + help, guys, I really do appreciate it in the time of utter un-nerdness.
If the device is already installed it will have a check box that said "Delete the driver software for this device." If its unknown then obviously not. By "uninstall any driver", I mean uninstall any Android drivers you current have installed and reboot before you reinstall the new driver.
Although I doubt it will make a difference than the one I linked above, you can try the Samsung driver version 1.5.3: http://www.mediafire.com/?r0uc3h413qcy80z
If you did manage to get into download mode and see this: http://images.google.com/search?num=10&hl=en&site=&tbm=isch&source=hp&q=download+mode
Then it mean there is a very good chance you can restore the phone, if you can find a computer to recognize it and Odin to see a COM port.
I definitely think it would be worth the money to go buy an OEM USB cord. I can't tell you how many times I have seen this and a new USB is the fix.

OK guys...
My friend, who also owns a Vibrant, let me borrow the cable that came with the phone for the last 2 days.
Tried to make ODIN work on both PCs at home, gave Heimdall a shot on my mac, even hijacked a computer at work for the better part of the morning and freshly installed USB drivers 1.5.3 before connecting. All for nothing... “Unknown device” across the board....
At first I felt that with being able to get into download and have SOME kind of a reaction from connecting to PC had to be a good sign. Almost completely convinced that there is some unknown, unworkable hardware problem present. Definitely, officially, unremarkably out of ideas here.
Nothing is beautiful and everything hurts.
Last thoughts? Options at this point?
Also, tried One-click Unbrick tool on mac. I got a "is your phone plugged in, is it on download mode?" error, but anyone reading this down the line with a similar problem should check it out.

Man you really don't have a clue do you!!
Why in hell would you need OTG to flash a rom? Do you even know what OTG is?
Stop ignoring people that give you the solution too. It's really bad manners.
So download the stock rom and flash it.
You should spend a day reading up first before you damage the phone permanently.
Sorry if not being clear I have been listening my phone has a hardware issue and I'm not to much of a noob have tried each comment. I'm not to nooby but I have downloaded the drivers my device is not being recognized correctly I have a hazardous icon in device manager on my android phone lg ls970. My phone does not support otg I'm trying to install .zips through a flash drive and otg cable. I'm sorry if waisting peoples time with my apparently nooby question. Please c correct me if I'm wrong thanks for the support.
Let me be clearer I'm sorry for not spelling it out well enough. I have installed drivers many times I have installed the driver however my phone is not being recognized correctly I have uninstalled and tried again. Otg which I looked it up pretty handy in these situations, doesn't work for this phone (due to outputting)I had a cm10.2 kernal which may have had something do do with this. I have come to believe that its a hardware problem with the female port I will try again on another computer tomorrow and see.
What I want to know is why it still recognizes something and if its fixable?
Thx

[Q] Help restoring my rooted, S-OFF, moonshine DNA to stock

Hey!
This is my first time posting, but I have read tons of threads on here over the last year or so with my Droid DNA.
A while ago, I rooted my DNA, and unlocked the Bootloader, and used moonshine for S-OFF. I now want to undo all that I have done. Wiping data is no issue, I backed up all my info. I plan to get a new phone soon. Basically, I can't get adb drivers to work. So I deleted my drivers, and installed the ones mentioned in the thread linked below, and I can't find how to get these drivers to work.
My plan is to follow this thread, using step 3 (for moonshine). I have TWRP installed, and flashed the lock_bootlader.zip file provided there. I cannot get adb to work, however, for the next step. For example, "adb devices" returns no devices. And thus i cannot use adb commands. When I run "adb devices", it shows this. What do I do??
Thanks
Some more clarification:
I might also add that Device manager shows my phone as "HTC6435LVW", under "Portable Devices". It seems to recognize it as an MTP Device when I try to update the drivers, and won't let me update the drivers, because "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
In addition, HTC Sync Manager does not recognize my phone either. I should mention that I already chose "Reset Phone" from the Settings menu, and then also did a Factory Reset from TWRP.
I'm so confused by all this - Why can't I get ADB to recognize it?? I have been and will continue to be searching for solutions to this problem here on XDA and also on Google. And do I even need to do all this to give my phone back to Verizon?
Try getting the drivers from PDAnet. If you are using Windoze 8 or 8.1 , good luck.

I tried that, it gets stuck at the USB Driver Installation page, when it asks to connect your phone. I have USB debugging enabled, and I even installed PdaNet on my phone to try to use their "USB Mode". The DNA has not USB options for Mass Storage, etc like the pdanet driver help page ( pdanet . co / driver ) (It wont let me post a link because I'm a new user, sorry) tells me to look for.
Windows device manager does not recognize it as an Android phone, but instead as a portable device, could this be a problem?

Phone Not Detected in Flash Mode

Hi guys,
I have been searching for hours but I can't seem to find how to fix my problem.
I have a new Z5 Compact that I was trying to flash with the stock firmware but I somehow managed to brick it. I don't think I had the drivers installed properly when I tried to flash with flashtool but since flashtool didn't even detect my phone or appear to begin flashing it I don't know how I bricked it. Anyway after trying for hours to fix it on my own I can't seem to find the information that I need. I have installed the drivers properly as far as I can tell by allowing unsigned drivers on windows 10 but whenever I boot to flash mode the phone isn't detected. Nothing even comes up in Device Manager so there are no options to update drivers or anything. I just hold the volume down button, plug in the usb, the LED briefly flashes red before holding on green and then nothing happens. Neither Flashtool or PC Companion detect the phone and I have tried this on 2 different laptops running Windows 7 and Windows 10. If anyone has any instructions on how to get this to work on Ubuntu I'm willing to try that too as I also have Ubuntu installed but I am really at a loss for what else I can try.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

sounds dumb but have you tried a different port and different cable? i ran into the same problem and found out one of the ports on my laptop doesnt work for data. flashtool is a major pain, it took me three pcs to find one that it worked with and then it took a good 5 tries and reboots to have a successful flash. flashing twrp and then xpower would be easier imo.

Yeah, I have tried 7 ports and 3 cables across two different pcs. There's a desktop I can try on but I'll wait until tomorrow. It's really frustrating. I just wanted to root so that I could batch install my apps from Titanium but now I have got a brick. In the time that I have spent trying to fix it I could have selected and installed all the apps individually.

keep trying, it'll work after you figure out whats wrong with your install, flashtool is real finnicky. If your already soft bricked and only want root id suggest fastboot twrp 3.0.2 then flash xpower 3.0 and be done with it. the only real reason to use flashtool is to flash a new image onto the phone because you cant take an ota.

I tried following that guide but when I try to install the driver it just says "The INF file you selected does not support this method if installation". You didn't happen to have that problem and find a workaround did you?
Just an update on what I have tried if anyone has any suggestions...
I tried inserting a SIM in case that would make any difference. I have also tried it on a desktop pc as well as the two laptops now which is windows 7, 8.1 and 10. The Windows 8.1 attempt was a clean install and I used the advanced boot method to enable the installation of unsigned drivers. I had high hopes for that but it didn't work. What I find curious is there is no activity when I plug the phone in, in flash mode. If I plug it in, in fastboot mode it searches for drivers and the device appears in device manager but with flash mode I get nothing. I'm beginning to think that perhaps the device itself has a faulty flash mode.
