[Q] Sim card reading issue - Rooted UnRooted IMIE change - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I have unlocked my i717 phone, sim card read fine on Family Mobile service powered by T-Mobile. Then rooted phone using Odin. removed apps I didnt like. after removing Kies air and a few other AT&T apps. I got the alert at the top area no sim | emergency calls only I turned phone off then back on same issue. I return phone to factory setting another issue also didnt use odin to unroot. however I did download full ICS file and used odin to unroot then wiped clean to factory setting. The issues with sim card not reading still remains. I do have another i717 and check with hardware change of sim card reader as well as checked sim card its self in another phone and it works fine.
check with local phone tech guy he said I might have an issue with IMEI change when doing the first root? he also told me to come here for help.
How can I check if this has happened?
How can I change it back?
How can I change it to work with my Family Mobile service powered by T-Mobile?
Thanks

Seldom an IMEI issue. It's typically fixed by replacing the sim holder/reader. Before you do that I would swap the readers and see how each behaves in a different phone. If the culprit reader does not work, $10 on eBay or so. Utube for video instruction-it's ez peasy. Lastly unless you really have to avoid removing and re-inserting the sim card. something about that makes my device nuts.

I have tried the swap of the current Sim readers assembly with another Sim reader I have. and both Sim readers assembly are reading great on another test phone. Being that the hardware cross testing is showing that the Sim card and Sim card reader are in fact working and not the issue. This has lead me to do more research on the IMEI issues along with a possible missing EFS/bin files?? I didnt backup my phone EFS/bin files before unlocking which can cause the issue with the Sim card reading I am having...? still not sure tho..
I have learned that the IMEI hasn't been changed like I had thought tho..its the numbers after the / in the IMEI are just software revision numbers to reflect the software version.
Does anyone have any ideas where I can get the missing EFA / bin files > nv.log > nv_data.bin > nv_data.bin.md5

[Q] At&t Galaxy SII unable to read the sim card

Hi All,
I have a Galaxy SII, which I rooted and flashed with ICScrewD ‬‬‬‬‬♦‬♦♦‬♦Homemade Ice Cream
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375255
It worked fine for a couple of days, now all of a sudden I am not getting any signal on my phone, and instead of the signal bars I am getting the no network symbol. I tried different modems, different ROMs, doesn't seem to work. I even went back to the stock, but no luck.
When I went to the wifi & network settings and tried to click on the network settings it says "insert sim card" even though the sim is already in there. I tried my sim on a different phone, it works fine. So i am guessing its not At&t's fault.
Has anyone else had the same problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.
When you re-inserted your sim card back in your GS2, what happened? Is it an old sim and are the contacts worn and scratched?
The contacts are just fine. Even when i reinsert it nothing happens, I still get the no network symbol. It is basically behaving like no sim is inserted.
Well it sounds like a trip to an AT&T store might be in your future to test another SIM card. Hopefully that's all it is. Wifi radio works fine?
Try reflashing back to stock?
The wifi works just fine, and i tried flashing it back to stock, did a factory reset also, but nothing seems to work.
I have not dropped my phone even once, so that rules out the physical damage.
Well not sure this will help *fix* the issue, but might provide a bit more insight into what exactly the phone is and isn't seeing. If you download Elixir 2, linked below, and run a report and send it to yourself via email, look in the Telephony section of the report and see if the phone even sees the SIM card. Obviously it sounds like it doesn't, but if it gives you your SIM serial info in there, you might be able to rule out an issue with the actual card itself, etc.

Nope, it says sim state is unknown, I guess i will have to go to the At&t store then.
Thanks anyways.

I717 not reading any sim cards

Hi,
Recently, my canadian galaxy note stopped reading all sim cards. Ive tried flashing various roms but still nothing. All I get is the insert sim card icon in the task bar.
There are tonnes of threads regarding the international version, but i was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
Just had this problem. If avail swap out sim cards with a known working card and if it still fails to register, the phone needs to be replaced.
Just happened to me yesterday and got a new phone today!
Hope this helps!
I am currently having the same problem with my ATT Note, but I am sending it to samsung to get fixed or replaced under samsung's warranty.
First check if your note has a an imei number. Go to settings about. There's also a # shortcut but I don't recall what it is. If not efs got corrupted some how. If you did the shortcut key if efs is corrupted it should display null/null. (I've got a captivate with this problem)
Sometimes it's a bad sim contact. Just by a worn out sim card, its happened to me. Clean off the contacts or get another sim card provisioned. Costs $6 for a new Rogers sim provisioning is free.

[Q] "Can't connect right now. Try again later." or equivalent in stock, CM9 and CM10
Hi folks! Needing some help, please.
I've googled my problem a lot but couldn't find any working solution. Below is the detailed history.
I have recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300, cut my previous SIM, and used it for about four weeks with no problems. During this time, I rooted my phone, backed up the stock ROM, installed CM9 and afterwards CM10.
About a week ago, while using CM10, I switched off airplane mode after about nine hours and the signal power meter was empty. All the services related to my carrier (SMS, 3G, calls) were inoperative. I rebooted the phone, tried removing and reinserting the SIM, with no success.
I tried flashing the previous backups, also with no success, but noticed that while using the stock rom, the signal meter was full. This prompted me to access "Settings > Wireless (...) > More... > Mobile Networks > Network Operators", where to my surprise all the available carriers were listed. I did the same check in the rural area of my town, where I know my carrier does not work, and the cellphone correctly detected only the other three carriers.
These symptoms led me to believe that my cut sim could be the problem. I got a microsim from my carrier, but the problem persisted.
After this, I assumed the problem was software related, googled it and found some recommendations:
Complete wipe and backup restoration: this was not successful with stock, CM9 and CM10.
Complete wipe and stock ROM re-installation with Odin: also not successful.
Modem flashing with Odin: also not successful.
Firmware flashing with KIES: I put the cellphone in download mode and made the firmware recovery procedure from KIES. Also not successful.
Restoration of efs folder and IMEI related issues: I did not have backup of this folder, but the symptoms related to the problem in the posts I found always included the absence of IMEI. When I type *#06# in my phone, I can correctly see my IMEI, so I discarded this possibility. My carrier also informed me that my IMEI is not blacklisted.
I thought of getting a new microsim to rule out any SIM related issues, but still haven't done it.
Information regarding my phone:
Phone model: GT-i9300
Baseband version: I9300UBLG2
Firmware vesion when on stock (from KIES): PDA:LJ1 / PHONE:LI2 / CSC:LJ2 (ZTO)
Could someone please help me? I still have not tried the EFS folder troubleshooting, but the procedures I found were related to problems that did not show the same symptoms as mine. Do anyone have any suggestion? Please tell me if any more information is needed.
Thanks!
Why not just get a micro Sim to begin with....they don't cost anything and it saves a whole lot of hassle. My guess is the sim reader is damaged....IF and WHEN you decide to get a new micro sim, if it doesn't work then that could be the only cause and the service centre your only option. Seriously dude, next time to save yourself hassle....go an get a micro sim from your carrier, I wouldn't even think about hacking away at an old sim because I can't be bothered to walk to a Vodafone shop.

I have just come back from the carrier store, where I got a new SIM, and the issue persists. I also double-checked any IMEI blocking or problems with my services, and everything is ok.
Coincidentally, a Samsung consultant was around. He checked my phone and talked to Samsung tech support describing the issue.
They do not think it is related to the cutting of the SIM card for two reasons, the first being the ability to locate the carriers, the second being the fact that a visual inspection of the slot and the scratch marks on the SIM card do not indicate a broken or bent contact.
Obviously, he recommended that I send my phone to an authorized Samsung service center for maintenance.
I am still inclined to think it is a software related issue. I will, of course, send my phone to Samsung if it is case, but in the meantime I would like to try new procedures to bring back my phone's ability to connect to my carrier.
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
An additional information:
I tried checking my sim through some apps, to confirm there is no damage in the contacts. GalaxSim Unlock is able to detect my sim and correctly show my phone status as unlocked.
Any suggestions on tests?

Hi!
I bought S939(not completely new), which from what I understand is not a device that's created for the European market. In order to make it function, I believe that the device was rooted\modified. Now, I can perfectly use it to go on the internet, make photos ecc, but when I put my SIM , I'm unable to "catch" the network of my provider. A message "Can't connect right now. Try again later." appears. I can save numbers on the SIM, for example, but unable to register on the network.
Also on the main screen, I can see writter "Invalid IMEI".
Thanks!
no backup imei ? try flash stock, should repare imei (i think) - but i have phone with mediatek and cant flash (get error)
Was the issue ever resolved, I'm having same problem with my i9300 on virgin mobile. My phone works fine on giffgaff.

[Q] LG Optimus L9 P769 Sim Card Problems

Hi, I have read, looked, read even more and I have not found one thing to help me with this.
After I rooted and tried the recovery everything was fine till I powered off and restarted, now the phone powers on and I am able to connect to wifi networks but my phone is saying that it can not connect to any mobile networks and seeing as I haven't seen a way to go back to stock. I was wondering if anyone could help because I have literally lost all hope with this phone.
(P769 running 10e United States Tmobile phone)
Well, you're technically still on stock - root/CWM recovery changes a few system files but nothing that should corrupt the basic stock install. You hadn't installed Titanium and uninstalled anything else - correct?
Under Settings->Software Information do you see a baseband version reported?
What do you have under Settings->Network ?
Try taking the battery out for 30s and taking the SIM and rubbing the gold contacts (light cleaning) on a cloth or your shirt. Replace everything and power up.
John.

I've taken out the battery and cleaned off everything. My network says Unknown, Mobile Network: Unknown, Mobile Network State; Disconnected. I've tried to connect to a network operator but it says my sim card is not allowed to do that. I've tried my sim card in friends phone and it works fine, but for some reason it just doesn't want to work on mine. My baseband version is LGP769AT-01-V10e-310=260-SEP-26-2012+0

If your phone can see networks and you getting 'not allowed' messages, you likely have a SIM problem. check with your carrier.
John.
Sounds like a sim lock talk to your carrier

I have same problem in LG Optimus L9.
I already replaced SIM from Vodafone last 15 days back and today i have the same problem. Vodafone help centre are telling to chaneg the sim again. Is this handset issue?
Same problem, not a SIM card problem
I have the exact same problem.
It's not related to the SIM card as my SIM card works fine in another phone and another SIM card in my phone gives the same problem.
This happened me 2 months ago, I left the phone for dead and started using a spare on I have, a couple of weeks later I check again and it's all working perfectly, strange !
Comforting to see that I'm not the only one with this problem.
I've done a hard reset and that made no difference.

[Q] SIM card not detected

Hello
My SGS3 gti9300 is not detecting my SIM card, it was fine this morning, i used my mobile data without any problem but as soon as i switched my mobile data off, my phone lost network. It tried pulling off the SIM card and putting it back in but in vain; my phone would read the SIM card, it says 'No service'. I also tried checking my IMEI number by *#06# on the dial pad, it would display 'null / null'. I do not have any other micro SIM card right now to try in my phone. My current SIM card works fine on other phones...so i guess the problem is in my phone
Besides, later when i played music on my phone, the music would stumble and at times the track changes by itself. That problem came along with the SIM card one.
My phone is not and was never rooted. It runs on Jelly Bean.
Please help me fix at least the SIM card issue :crying:
If your phone is fully stock and never rooted then return to Samsung for warranty repair.

It's look like a problem with efs. Search on forum how to recover efs files.
