I'm planning to switch from T-Mobile to Family Mobile at the end of the month, and I wanted to know if somebody on here uses it and if they're happy with their service.
And I'm also curious if I will get 4g?
I've been hearing all different stories saying I'll only get 3g even if on a 4g device.
Or possibly just 2g only[emoji27] (since supposedly the L9 only receives 2g 4g signals?)
Also I am rooted so would I be able to use a hotspot on their service?
Thanks in advance[emoji1][emoji106]

Hello! I am currently using the P769 on Family Mobile. Yes you do get 4G, 3G and 2G. I have the data plan And it works very well in my area. I don't drop calls, my messages send, so I can't complain. Here's a screenshot that shows I have 4G

Thanks! And how much 4g do you get a month? Is it 2.5 GB?

Has anybody with an ATT Atrix 4G and grandfathered unlimited plan from the hay days moved on to an LTE device (i.e. Note II) and have kept their unlimited plan with LTE?
I'm still on my grandfathered iPhone 2G (yeah i know, lesson learned) plan that was "upgraded" to 3G and was looking to upgrade my phone in the near future. But wasn't sure if I could still hang on to my unlimited. I still have my Atrix, but being stuck on gb and no HWA on ICS/JB.. it's kind of a bummer.
I upgraded my phone to a Moto Atrix HD and kept my Unlimited data. The phone is 4G LTE and works great. So Yes is your answer.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Hopefully this phone will last me until some of those hyped devices come out

I recently upgraded my wife's phone from a Samsung Cappy (3g) to the SG III (LTE) and her unlimited plan transferred just fine.

I'm on a T-Mobile contract, and I drool over the development support of the Nexus 4, but I need to have a SD card to put all my music on my phone. I plan on doing the N4 conversion, but I need the phone to do these things:
1) T-Mobile support for HSPA or LTE in New York City and Central NJ. Does T-Mobile LTE work on this phone?
2) SD card support
3) Tethering on T-Mobile. I don't have their official tethering plan but it works on my Galaxy S II CM10 rom.
Experiences?
T mobile lte will work once they turn on it. This phone uses band 4 and 17 and t mobile uses band 4 for lte.

Thanks. I wonder if it's possible to flash the T-Mobile radio from the N4 and it would work. Since they're basically the same phone...
I haven't gotten the phone yet so I can't test.

If you sim unlock it, you bet.

So the at&t optimus G run on the same bands as tmobile lte?
Yes

Thanks for the confirmation for LTE. Now would it work for T-Mobile's 3G HSPA?

Um, you shouldn't be so quick to answer incorrectly. It'll only work in the cities that tmo has refarmed. Google it for the list of cities. Search term "t mobile spectrum refarming".

Yes double this. I just switched my optimus g to tmobile and it will definately pick up edge but hspa+ is in some areas. Fortunately im in washington DC so its cool sometimes. Unless im moving around in dc then its just a constant in and out. It seems like Tmobile is 1 full step behind at&t when it comes to service and data. They go from hspa+ in dc to Edge but on at&t at least it goes from lte to hspa+ also the quality does not drop anywhere near as much. Tmobile feels like a souped up prepaid service.
My money is on T-mobile. For almost half the monthly cost of AT&T, i get consistent hspa+ speeds of 10-12mb down and 1-2mb up, in my city's refarmed 1900mhz T-mobile market. When T-mobile flips the switch on their LTE, it will be comparable to AT&T/Verison/Sprint LTE, with faster fallback hspa+ speeds and at significant cost savings to boot imo.

The OG can pick 1900 frequencies for HSPA so you'll get 3G speed. That's until T Mobile switches frequencies.

I wish you guys could read. Not every tmo market has 1900mhz 3g hspa or hspa+. Google it and make sure your market is on the list. If it's not, it will be soon.

what frequencies will they switch to? only reason they're turning on 1900mhz was for iPhones. they're not gonna shut down after its rolled out. once said and done. T-Mobile will have more spectrums

I'm getting an optimus g soon. It's unlocked so if I pop in my sim card and add the fast.t-mobile apn should Lte work? I live in Vegas and is supported by lte. I get lte with my nexus 4 fine

There was another thread where someone said he couldn't get lte no matter what he did. He tried different ROM/radio combos. I've been using an unlocked optimus g for the past month now on T-Mobile but we don't have lte in Florida yet , hopefully next month.
I hope it works for you because according to the specs of our phone it should.

When i get HSPA, I can pull 13mb/s download, 3 mb/s upload. But the 1900 mhz, is not in all places where I live. So I get those speeds, or Edge. Sucks. I don't recommend trying to pull up Google Map to look for something on Edge, it's slow.
I have a 3gb plan of 4g lte data. I have my phone rooted and have tried foxfi but don't work. I have wifi tether for root users and works good I even the interface of the app. However with at app I got a warning from att then later had my plan switched to the tethering plan. When I tethered it was only sessions of less than 10mb and was only around twice a month for where I go somewhere and don't have wifi. I am att stock rom. If you guys tether how do you it for not getting caught?
I don't think the data you use matters because the last two months I only used 200-300 my of my data and since att does not let me roll it over I downloaded torrents to my phone of about 2.5gb to make sure I went close to my 3gb plan.

Using various phones(on AOSP-based roms though) I've never been 'caught' tethering, though it was used for light-ish browsing/downloading I suggest going that route.
EDIT: I do also have a grandfathered 'unlimited' plan
What rom are you on and what app did you use?
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda premium
I haven't used it but there is Clockwork tether by Koush that claims to be able to mask tethering. It is an app for phone and client program for PC.
If you tether a lot it's worth getting off grandfathered in pdaunltd if you use it in a market area that throttles unltd users after some paltry amount.

6gb of full speed is good enough
It may be 6GB in your area, but in some areas it's a lot less.

Generally you're throttled after 2 gigs. Have never seen an account not throttled after more than 3. Count yourself lucky and don't press your luck.

They knock my speed down after only 2 gigs

I'm on a 2 GB plan, and have tethered my gf's laptop so she can send work emails while I drive on a long road trip. It probably wasn't more than 20 MB a couple times, though, but I didn't get caught.
If you have a tiered data plan then tethering is included these days.

my LG Motion is on the fritz so in the market for a new phone. I'm on a budget, but i found a used LG OPTIMUS G E970 for a reasonable price & also a Pantech Discover P9090 for $40 cheaper. If i'm correct both would work with Metro, but which would be the better choice? Naturally it would be rooted
Doesn't metro use cdma? If it is a gsm network that metro uses them go for it bro

yea, they were bought out by t-mobile? so we're on their network now. i'm liking the Optimus, but if i grab it i'll have to spring for a new sim card. The discover has same sim slot as my motion though.
