I remember reading something about people buying a phone on contract and then switching something on their plan so they only pay $10 a month extra. Anyone care to explain on how this is done?
I'd like to know this as well. I read up on the other method, but that involves already having an extra line.. which I don't, so yeah. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated
Add a line and buy a subsidized smartphone with that. You may have to add a data package at that time. Then immediately move the new phone to your main phone line and put a "dumb" phone on the new line and cancel the data for it.

I'm fairly sure from community input that if you do this through anyone other then verizonwireless you WILL lose unlimited data.. Sorry

I would think so. The stories I have heard was buying at best buy with a new line then going to Verizon to switch the phones and lines

this is true and ive done ii myself but best buy is an authorized retailer and can do anything that a verizon store can do. Whereas wirefly and other online retailers require you to modify your plan during checkout and this causes the change in data packages. (i think... dont tar and feather me if im wrong but ive never heard of this working)

overall I'd say better safe then sorry! I highly value my unliited data and have gone to great lengths to preserve it this long so I wont take any chances with something I'm not sure of!

Yeah I'm not positive either. Just relating stories I've heard. It's all too stressful trying to find a way to game the system. I bit the bullet and gave up my unlimited. Never really needed it anyway...

So you bought your DNA at Best Buy on a new line, and then went to Verizon to switch the phones and lines? Did Verizon then let you downgrade the new line to a $9.99/month plan with a basic phone? And do you still have your unlimited data? Sorry to keep asking questions, I just want to be sure..
Update: For anyone interested, the Verizon stores near my location all said that this was not possible (maybe I was stupid for asking, but I figured I'd try). They went on about how I can't add a single line to my account without converting the entire account into a Share Everything plan, so I couldn't just add an additional single line.
Hey guys I have been waiting on the 32GB s4 but nothing. Yesterday I decided to get the 16gb (9gb). I told the guy I was doing the payment plan and I wanted the white version. Well after almost an hour and a half I start walking out the door and look at the box and is the black version. So I walk back in and tell him hey you have me the wrong one. So after 30 minutes they tell me they are going to have to do a full refund and do everything again. So first they didn't know how to do the device payment plan then I get the wrong storage size, and I was there for 2 hours. I told them I had to leave that I would be back today.
But it gets better.
I'm at my bother in laws wedding shower and I look at my phone, and guess what? I don't have Internet connection. I then keep trying to connect to 4g or 3g, airplane mode on and off, reboot. And still no data then I try to call and I already knew those idiots turned my sim card off, and yep no voice either. So I used my wife's phone to call Verizon they turn it back on and got a $20 credit to my account.
Wish me luck today.

Jeez sorry to hear that
I will wait for the 32gb myself. My S3 32gb affords that perspective though. I think the forums in a few months will have the same vibe as the storage starved G1 days. Back then, apps and games averaged a LOT smaller than now, so does correlate.
I thought crap like that only happened to me - Makes you want to go back and ring some necks!
I had a similar situation. I was told on the phone there was managers approval for early upgrade for me on my account after speaking to a rep over the phone. I was told I can simply go to the store and get it. So i sold my current phone the same day went to the store the next (since it was too late) and there were no remarks or anything. I had to buy it retail price.
Well after an hour they got me the white version. An as I'm getting in the car I get emails and text messages telling me I've used over 50% of my data. I'm like those brilliant people Took unlimited off. So walk back in and yep that's what happen. They told me to leave and they would call when it was fixed. Ten minutes later it was. Went on and called verizon and filed a complaint about them.

Also, I would watch your next bill to see if they prorated some data charges for the time you weren't on unlimited data. They tried that with me, it was only about $12, but your $20 credit could just be covering their mistake.

People that complain when they do their job wrong and show multiple levels of incompetence, causing an inconvenience to the very customers they were employed to service?

You mean you're not willing to forgive somebody for a mistake? Do you know the complete situation? Was the situation not rectified and the customer compensated for their precious time? Was it necessary to complain and potentially threaten someones job just because they were inconvenienced? Did you ever think that maybe it was one of their first times on the sales floor or maybe they were just having a bad day? If nothing was done or the customer wasn't compensated then I would understand the complaint but furthering the matter was unnecessary. They very well may depend on that job to support a family but just because this person was slightly inconvenienced that family may not have the money they need. Have you ever worked a customer service job? My guess would be no only because I feel you would be a little more forgiving. I'm not saying it's not a bad situation but maybe you should put things in perspective and think about the person on the other side of the counter. The stress from just dealing with the situation was in my opinion punishment enough and I'm sure the manager provided his own disciplinary actions to the rep. Maybe you should try not being such a ****?

Wow. Someone must really hate their job.
First of all, I never said I would have complained, I just understand the reasoning behind the complaint. I have worked many jobs in customer service, and have had a few complaints against me for things I had no control of. As long as the situation was made whole, I personally would not have filed a complaint.
Maybe you shouldn't be such a drama queen. I don't know many people that aren't working to support their family or themselves. If a single complaint gets them fired, my heart goes out to them. They have channels for complaints, because they would like to hear them. It is how a company can grow and fix policies.
The $20 were given by the call center rep. And it was for them cutting my line. The store did nothing they didn't seem to care until I mention that this was getting ridiculous then they started saying sorry about this. And I told them I didn't want my plan changed in any way and guess what they did twice.

So, you didn't let them set it up in store?
I bought off-contract for $680 and they switched my number from my GNex to the S4. They also gave me a new SIM. I asked why I couldn't just use the old one and they said the new SIM has NFC built in. Then I had to sit there and listen to a 5 minute explanation on what NFC is and how to use it -- sorry I asked!
The guy was also dumb-founded that I didnt want to take the discount and switch from unlimited to the 2GB plan. He even asked me what did I do for a living!
Heh, every time I need to go to vzw I cringe. Its always a big ordeal. I don't understand what is so difficult. I mean these people do this for a living. I can buy my phone from their website and activate it when I get it with a total invested time of about 10 minutes. Sucks to wait for delivery though haha.

WOW. You sound like you are the "behind the counter" guy who makes repeat and often mistakes, and to correct your lack of understanding, it's not his responsibility to "be more understanding" as you put it. When one is paid to do a job and evidently this wasn't one CSR making a mistake, but several with no manager intervention then it is the responsibility of the MOD to fix the problem, not give 20$ and his poor experience brushed under a rug. I would bet that 20 didn't cover the gas for the trips he made to the location and had the MOD actually stepped in and rectified it and not this guy just left to the incompetence of several minimum wage making CSR, then he most likely would not have needed the 20$ and left satisfied from the get go.
Mistakes are one thing, gross incompetence, lack of customer care and poor management is quite another.
And before you run your mouth, I oversee 18 retail locations and employ over 100 people so I'm quite familiar with both sides of the counter.
And the MOD is the one at fault, not common CSR who normally are either part time or kids nor is the customer at fault because if you had a customer service job like you claim he does not then you'd know the customer is ALWAYS right.
Period.
WOW! They gave you a credit?! They NEVER give me anything for their screwups! "Sorry sir... Have a nice day!"

The point is, these people are paid to do their jobs correctly. If they screw something up for us as customers, we're highly inconvenienced. The object of customer service is that the customer is always right. Giving someone a mere $20 credit for all of the time and experiences wasted and missed because of this isn't going to make up for the fact that he didn't have a working phone for multiple hours. He's well within his right to be as upset as he is with the staff.
Man there are a few vzw corp stores I have been too that sounds like this in the Northern VA area. I picked up the S4 this past Saturday and it took about 40 minutes in total for everything. That was me even talking with them about Android and different devices. All in all was a pretty smooth visit. I do hate how they try and push you off your grandfathered unlimited data plan at every chance they get (I understand it is the VZW overlord making them do it though.) and pushing crappy screen protectors and overprices cases at you.
Really wish VZW would have done the 32GB version though. It is sad that they think 16GB is good enough.
Poorly trained CS and TS in any company is bad IMO. It is the Manager or higher ups fault on that and it should not be an inconvenience to the customer at all.

Ouch -- My whole time in-store was about 30 minutes, which included new phone setup. I will admit, it was almost empty due to a major thunderstorm passing through.
Hello,
I didn't see anything in the rules section against this, but if it is against the rules I apologize in advance.
Since every other carrier is charging $299.99 for the Note 3 and Sprint it charging $349.99 I was hoping that we could petition Sprint to lower the price down to everyone elses level. I'm hoping that if I get enough people behind this a lot of people can save some money.
https://www.change.org/petitions/sprint-lower-the-2-year-contract-price-of-the-samsung-galaxy-note-3-to-299-99-like-other-carriers#
Thank you for looking and sorry if you disagree with me, I'm just a person trying to try not to get ripped off. If anyone on here has a reason for me as to why they are charging more for it than other carriers, please post it, but please post facts and have proof to back it up. Everyone gave me reasons on Sprints facebook page but no one wants to post any facts to back it up.
I am not on Sprint and never will be anytime soon but I signed it for you anyway

Thanks for signing it. Apparently everyone else doesn't care how much they pay for a phone however.
Signed bro... as I said on the petition this is one of MANY reasons I switched over to T-Mobile, which actually is offering the N3 for $199 btw.
So much for all carriers are offering it for $299 eh?

That's 199 up front and $21 a month for 2 years! 21x24 is $504 plus the $199.99 up front and that's $703.99 over the two years.

Signed it for you as well, going to be ditching these guys soon anyway. Good luck.
Since when has a petition REALLY done anything in a situation like this?
If you really look at it, Sprint is not really any cheaper than verizon anyway.
voice-data coverage and speed once you do get data..
Sprint does offer unlimited data, but its more expensive than any other carrier for like 1% of
the coverage of any other carrier, and when you finally do find data its terribly slow.
Also, if you just wait a few weeks you can probably get it much much cheaper..
Signed. Thanks op

I have never seen so many people worked up over $50 before. You'd think it was a bank breaker the way some of you guys are whining and threatening to switch to T-Mobile, which actually turns out to be full retail price if you know math.
I understand you want it to be the same across carriers, I get it. That would be ideal, but seriously guys, it's $50, not $100. Sprint won't care how many people sign this petition.

I understand that, but when you think about how Sprint is the cheapest carrier out of the 4, their pricing strategy suddenly starts to make sense. I'd rather pay a lower monthly bill and have them continue to undercut the competition at the expense of $50 added to a contract phone than to have the phones be the same price across the board with higher monthly bills. They have to make money somehow. You can't continue stay competitive and lose out every quarter. That's stupid business.

Of course,
I am a Sprint customer as well, the $50 pricing discrepancy doesn't really sway me one way or the other. I have a unlimited and I have a family plan. I have priced the competition over the years and I haven't found anything close to what I pay over a calendar year.
I have come to terms with the Tri-band fiasco, I just wish they would come out and say something that made absolute sense about the how's and the why's... It's not 1995 anymore news and especially things like pricing and service related news, travels fast and then blows up into Sprint bashing fodder on various internet sites.
I had two people over hear a conversation I had last night and left T-mobile to join Sprint... Math skills ftw!!

So essentially they will give you a trade in value of whatever you owe (as long as the phone isn't smashed) and you start the new payment plan. Gotcha!
I am a retail lead for Sprint, but I have been one of you for years! Ask any sprint service questions here with the confidence that 1 - I know what I'm talking about more than the idiot at your local authorized retailer, and 2 - that I was a member of XDA years before I ever worked for sprint, so I have your interests in mind.
I will not tell you how to scam Sprint or get out of your contract fraudulently. I will explain plan options, advise you on what are actually good deals vs what the rep is making sound like a good deal.. Ask away!
@austontatious, if you'd like I can help out in here too. I'm a sales rep as well!
Any rumors for when 5.0 is coming to the G3 from Sprint?

Negative. As always you will probably see devs here do it before the official rollout.

No there is absolutely no throttling anywhere on the network. You can try ##72786# and see if that helps. Otherwise if you have WiFi you can call *2 (customer care) and ask for an air rave.
Naw, they don't throttle, it's just that new spark crap sucks in a lot of areas.

So they only offer 2 year contracts again? I ask because we got grandfathered into the 69 unlimited everything plan but they talked my father who the account is under to switch to the framily plan. We have 10 people right now and with unlimited data plus insurance with a new g3 im paying like 80 a month which is ok i guess... idk i feel like we got screwed in the deal...

No, we have several other plans on offer, including the Family Share Pack and Simply Unlimited Everything. 2 year agreements are still available, however.
Just look at apples to apples. $80 a month got n limited everything and a g3 with no real upfront cost is a pretty good deal. Better than anyone else is offering, in fact.
I know you can get discount's based on where you're employed, if you're a student, maybe other some other factors. Ive always wondered if im eligible for any discounts. Is there a list of available discounts anywhere that you know of?
Walmart here. Good discounts. Lol

I read somewhere that newer Sprint phones could not access the internet while in a call, something about just one radio, I'm still on Evo jewel and never noticed this. Is this true for the G3?
The spark phones only have one radio. It sucks. I lose data everytime I get a call.
So I just called Verizon and got 12gb free a month for 24 months I have 30 gb for a 100 dollars a month and they offered me $200 towards a new device on contract and I can keep my phone. it only took 2 hours of saying the same thing I'm going to Sprint cause u locked out my phone and wont support it. You will have to pay full retail price for the new phone -200 or whatever u paid for the Z3V new and then they don't charge you an extra $20 a month cause u bought it outright. AND with the data thing u need a 18gb package to get that offer I don't know wtf I'm going to do with 30gb a month but it sure is nice to get something for free from verizon.
30gb for $100, sounds to me Verizon is still taking you to the cleaners and not the other way around.
30gb for $30 dollars you would have something to be proud of.

Its nice to see you get as much as you can from verizon. That should be standard pricing the deal they gave you. But you saved tons of money otherwise. I've been with verizon for over 15 years and only stayed getting into smart phones back in 2011 or so whatever year the xperia play came out then the HTC dna.
My problem is I am loyal to verizon but they have no phone I like other than this xperia currently. I'm really debating switching to t-mobile or at&t next year so I can get all my phones unlocked. I'm just worried about service.
I really hope they release the ota for this device.

Okay I'm going to say this as nicely and as professionally as I possibly can... You need to stop attacking this thread. This is a Z3v forum like you said, specifically a Z3v general discussion forum. People can come here to discuss any topics they'd like that relate to the Sony Xperia Z3v. The reason Verizon offered him these extras is because he's a frustrated Z3v user, like so many others. He was just trying to inform the rest of the Z3v community that there are possible compensations that the company is willing to give us if we call Customer Service and communicate our frustrations. The entire point of his post was based on having this phone in the first place. I'm sure Verizon wouldn't offer anything like this to phones in their lineup that they still currently support, no matter what concerns or complaints you hit them with. The only thing that's out of place and cluttering up this post is your argument.. just let it go. You are just using the posts relevance argument to justify being condescending initially and that makes you look even worse for being rude in the first place because if you were really concerned about this being out of place or unrelated to the Z3v, that would have been the first thing you said. Let the moderators decide what should or shouldn't be posted where in the forums, don't try to take that responsibility on for yourself... On a side note, I see you're right about government employees not being affected by the $20 markup on unlimited lines. That's great news for you & those few people out there this applies to.. However if you ask me (which you didn't), You don't deserve that plan in the first place if all you can do is point your finger at the rest of us who don't have that same luxury and criticize us for getting excited about free data. Please, just be a better person than that.
