[Q] I9100 AOSP NeatROM v3.6 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have recently flashed the AOSP Neat ROM v3.6 developed by 'sale' on my S2 (I9100). I cannot find a couple of useful apps which were available on the official build (JB 4.1.2):
Memo - In-fact the memo had a lot of data too. Titanium backup is unable to restore this app with or without data.
Performance monitor - Memory, CPU and task manager
cannot kill all apps - customizing any of the keys only kills the active app..and that too without any notification of which app it actually killed.
I also noticed that location sensing does not work at all time and need reboots sometimes
Battery seems to be draining faster - any expert tips would help
Besides the above, it is a cool one ROM and the longest I have stayed on with ( 7 full days!)
Would appreciate responses /advice from the experts.

I Ain't no expert , but i can help you a bit ..
1) about the memo - it requires touchwiz interface and framework and not aosp and can ony run on touchwiz based roms. you can install 3rd party apps from playstore at any given time .
2) playstore . there are so many apps which can help you monitor your battery , data , performance , speed etc ..
3) killing apps in aosp means clearing them from recents . if not use a 3rd party task killer
4) battery can be improved using a custom kernel , underclocking , installing apps which you need the most and of course switching off data , wifi , brightness to 0 , switching gps off .. hope i helped and all the best ! Happy Flashing

Which ROM will make me feel fuzzy inside?

Hey guys,
I'm still trying to get my SGS2 figured out... I've got it set up with GoLauncher and GoLocker and I love the look and setup etc but I would love to know what ROM people suggest.. I've read all the guides on how to flash custom ROMs, what apps can be frozen etc etc. but I don't know which ROM to go with because I'm not sure if they will change the look and feel of the phone.. This is what I want the ROM to do:
- I want to keep the current look and setout of apps/home screen etc
- Something quick and easy on the battery
- To be able to get rid of all the apps I don't use
I only really use SMS, Phone, Email, Camera, Facebook and Shazam. Nothing complicated really
Thanks in advance for your suggestions! Any advice is appreciated.
Oh boy, it's going to be fun on these forums today.
I use MIUI, it's based on CyanogenMod so there is no bloatware, very customizable, very fast and very efficient battery usage with the Android OS battery bug fixed.
Or use CyanogenMod 7 and use your same configuration of GoLauncher and stuff.
CriskeloROM is if you want to have a very customizable Samsung based ROM.
Rooted stock. Yes, I'm serious.

Sorry mate, the best I could find was a thread which highly suggested Villain ROM but the thread was 6 months old, and I wasn't sure if it changes your home screen and everything.

I definitely won't be going for CriskeloROM then
So will MIUI change the whole look of my phone or can I keep my current look? And what's the difference between it and CyanogenMod 7?
Sorry if the questions sound basic to you guys!
Cheers
CriskeloROM is like stock Samsung ROM with extra added features like CRT on, off, ICS animations, etc...if you want Samsung stuff, and your current UI looks, go with CriskeloROM, I used to use it until I switched to MIUI.
MIUI is different from CyanogenMod, because it has a different look and feel with all MIUI's thousand's of themes and you can make your phone so customized with different boot animations, lock screen layouts, etc.
CyanogenMod is stock Android, with nothing on it and you can put any look on it. MIUI has it's own launcher which is part of the entire theming architecture it comes with, which integrates every aspect of the UI with the launcher, lock screen, and other MIUI apps so that one app controls all.
OK I checked out the MIUI website and I don't really want to change the look so I'll rule that out.
Which is fastest out of CyanogenMod and CriskeloROM? I don't care about Samsung apps (assuming phone + sms etc aren't included? I'm guessing you mean the social hub, music hub etc etc, right?)
Try out CyanogenMod out then, its fastest and speediest because it has absolutely no bloatware. Try it out, there's no harm trying

Try checkrom. Its stock based but has an kitchen app with everything you need to customize the rom the way you want..All bloatware are removed and the kitchen is a must....Or try Hyperdroid...Another good rom and the team are great and they give great support...Those are the two roms that i would suggest
I use checkrom and nothing else.
But for you I would suggest you just root your phone with cf root, install titanium backup and use it to freeze or delete the apps you don't want.

I would suggest going through android development threads and looking at the features, screenshots and videos and compare, then root, make a nand backup and flash as many roms as you like until you find the one you want to stay with

Insanity II, it's based on CM7 and it only has the basic features. Superfast and looks like stock Android. Have fun.

Thanks heaps, I just used cf-root and then froze heaps of unused apps with Titanium Backup Pro, and I have saved a lot of RAM in doing so! I read somewhere there is a battery fix you can apply when you've rooted your phone but can't find it now.. Does anyone know what it's called?
And are there any other essentials to install now that I've got the phone rooted? Maybe the SetCPU program? I'm guessing that would save a lot of battery without sacrificing performance too much, right??
Cheers!
Just flash any Samsung based ROM (I like Androidema), flash Chainfire's Kernel for simplicity and you're set.

[Q] Several Questions About Custom Roms

When i install a custom rom, i expect that it includes all the features of Stock rom and has additional features.
But i realized that some of the key features of stock rom are not included in custom roms.
For example Stock Camera App has a lot of cool features like "Face Detection" and "Video Stabilize". But most of the roms has Camera ICS and it has not these features(in pro version it says it has video stabilize but i couldn't see it).
Also Stock Phone application is perfect for me because it has an opiton like slide right and left for messaging and phone calling. But in custom rom you need more steps to call or message.
So my first question is...
Is there any custom rom that has ability to use stock camera application and stock phone application ? Also i wonders is this possible or not ?(or any other stock application)
My second question is about an Iphone feature. We are sure that our sgs2 has a lot more features then iphone. But when i use iphone(yes i have one sorry for this) i see that contacts and messaging applications open fast as lightning. Probably the phone and messaging applications are always in memory on iphone even at startup!.
On SGS2 when i open conctacs application, even if i press home button after a while (after one hour) when i edit contacts it waits about 2-5 seconds to open it.(i have more than 1000 contacts)
Is there a way to keep contacts app and messaging app always in memory ?(or it may be any other application too)
Thanks
I think that WanamLite would be great for your taste as it's based on stock Samsung ICS Firmware.
If you can live without that Sammy's phone app, then maybe you should try MIUI or it's derivates( WIUI, RGUI, cMIUI). It has stock camera app. And the rom itself is beautiful, fast and stable.

My ROM Update Iced Bean 2.1 is about to release within no time    . in the last moment i have few questions to know from the users about their choice:
1. Do you want on screen navigation buttons?(Yap! I enabled it :victory
2. What apps do you want to pre-installed in ROM?(sorry I can't add AROMA cause i don't have much knowledge about it)
3. What improvements & tweaks do you want?
4. What is mostly needed in a ROM for daily use. (eg: Speed, Smoothness, Battery-life, Multitasking etc)
5. What about trebuchet launcher or HOLO Launcher HD as default home/Launcher?
****Please ans ASAP cause i'm about to release it within next 1 or 2 days.
ROM RELEASED!!!
I'd prefer battery life, and no frills cpu control, walkman, terminal emulator, Titanium backup. Good luck..!
Daily Use
I prefer Smoothness... eg Project Butter, enabling Vsync, I don't really multitask, but it can be achieve through Supercharger.
I prefer speed and gaming performance, wifi range tweak, sd etc...
1. Do you want on screen navigation buttons?
No I do not.
2. What apps do you want to pre-installed in ROM?
Titanium Backup
4. What is mostly needed in a ROM for daily use?
Smoothness
Battery-life
Smoothness and Gaming performance C: i'll try your rom in your next update n,n
1-)mm i would love onscreen bottons, but if u disable the hardward bottons , 2-) mm maybe just some good wallpapers. 3-) i just really need good battery/performance phone.
No onscreen navigation buttons for me.
Smoothness & Battery Life
Pre-installed: xparts, titanium backup

+1。。。and i dont like aroma 。。。the files are so big。。
enable buttery smoothness
enable xperia v apps like movies, album and walkman
Battery Life and smoothness.
Apps that I would like to see in your ROM: Walkman (ThilianC/Acid Team), Root Explorer
Don't like Aroma anyways. Waiting patiently for your next ROM release
Battery life & smoothness (smooth even when under clocked to 800MHz).
Please don't add walkman. I don't want walkman because I would flash acid audio engine for n7 player (which will not work with walkman). So it would be better to leave that to user
choice. Maybe add a link, from where the user can flash it.
Apps: No frill cpu controller , a file browser (ES/ root browser lite)
Eagerly waiting for your update.

Well i'm just try to make the ROM as most users prefers. & 3rd party apps can be easily installed from Playstore
First of all, prepare most light ROM without all apps which can be install from market. I prefer classical ics dialer without any modification or theme, it could be very fast, because in more ROM its very slow to open dialer for example. Good idea would be possibility to change lockscreen wallpaper, transparent status bar, notification toogles in sharp colours, percentuage battery icon, i like black white theme, dont need more colorful ROM, and it could be very stable, smooth and battery friendly.
Do you want on screen navigation buttons?
No I don't.
2. What apps do you want to pre-installed in ROM?
Stock camera
3. What improvements & tweaks do you want?
All tweaks from iced bean 1, but with Xperia T home, because with gx home the camera mod 4.2 doesn't work. About the status bar, I prefer the xperia gx status bar.
aosp lock screen only, others things like contacts, settings etc.. stock
4. What is mostly needed in a ROM for daily use.
Smoothness, gaming performance.
I use others players. I dont like Walkman (for me unlocked BL, downloading audio data does not work ). I use Xperia launcher with HomePreferences. .

I´m on @sunajkram23 V7 for two days already, really fast, no random reboots, no FC´s, no lagging at all, no crashes, no WIFI or Tethering or bluetooth issues, everything working perfectly. Boeffla Kernel just as it comes in Aroma with all the battery saving and performance optimization tweaks installed, zRam, etc. Best TW rom I´ve flashed so far! Removed My magazine and Samsung apps. S3 behavior with 3 dot menu, S5 mini launcher, S3 camera.
