Hello everyone,
I've recently switched from Samsung Galaxy Note and can't understand one thing. I'm currently using MVNO that allows to choose any of two local MNOs (at the same price). On Samsung device I was able to see the network names in search network dialog & everywhere in my system. On Sony in the network list I see only my MVNO name (written in different ways - PrimeTel & PTL) instead of real operators names (CYTA & MTN).
Is it possible to change this behaviour or at least somehow find out what is current network used?
Thanks.

Longtime listener, first time caller here. The situation is simple: my ability to select a network operator is greyed out on my Note (running the latest Unofficial GB "Emily" ROM). The phone was previously unlocked using a purchased code and I often use it with non-AT&T SIMs while traveling. The problem is when the wrong network shows up while roaming, I can't such to manual network selection.
What can I do? Some posts on other phone forums suggest flashing a different radio (perhaps Rogers?) but I am not sure that applies here. I seem to remember the ability to select the operator in the past, so could it be the non-stock ROM? I would appreciate any bits of wisdom the community is willing to share.

Try to use *#0011# to get into the GSM state and try to change the network inside this menu, let me know your results
Hi,
I'm new to the smartphone in general and android in particular.
I have Samsung galaxy SII i9100XXLPS.
Recently I have changed my network provider from Cellcom Israel to Golan Telecom which is a new carrier that builds its network from scratch. Mean while, its rides the existing network of Cellcom.
The problem is that although the data roaming is enabled (as the carrier demands), I keep getting the data roaming alert ("you have lost your data connectivity...") and I can't get internet.
Phone details:
Android version:4.0.3
Baseband version: I9100XXLPS
Kernel version:3.0.15-I9100XWLP8-CL356487
Build number: Firefds-Vmobile.IML74K.XWLP8
I have also Nokia N86 with the same carrier, with no problem accessing internet.
I have switched SIM cards (between the Nokia and the Samsung) but the problem is still the same.
Other people I know on the same network have also galaxy (S2 and W) and they don't have this problem.
Thanks

It turns out that in the "APN type" field it was "Default" instead of "default"...
Hi.
I am using a virtual network operator which relies on 3 different networks:
1st is his own now-in-deployment network
2nd that has no 2G
3rd that has 2G and 3G.
all three networks uses the same network name.
I usually manually select the third network through Settings->Mobile Network->Network Operators.
unfortunately, after every reboot of the phone (Nexus 4), it doesn't register on the network I selected, and I have to search it again and select it (it CAN find it when I search for networks).
my ultimate goal is to use tasker to switch between networks relying on the MCC which is different between all three.
is it possible to make the phone use a specific network operator based on MCC, and initiate a network refresh so it would "catch" that network?
I'm talking about a command I could issue through terminal emulator (shell).
my needs are somewhat related to this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...n-network-provider-as-soon-as-it-is-available
which is unanswered fully.
I'm rooted and willing to make the appropriate changes to system apps and recompile my OmniROM if needed.
thanks :good:
I installed 15 different apps, still no luck.
I need to know which is the strongest operator in my home... but without subscribing ALL operators just for testing!
I can't find an app capable of mapping all operators.
BUT:
1) I'm sure my phone can see all available operators: I can see them when selecting "manual operator selection" option.
2) I'm also sure my phone can see the signal strength of at least one operator: when I have no coverage from mine, I can anyway see the signal strength icon changing.
3) I'm sure any app on my non-rooted phone can read MNC code of the closest base station, and MNC identifies the operator.
Is there any app capable of collecting all these data and thus allowing me to build MY OWN map (not just a downloaded map) of operators coverage for MY specific phone?
I don't know if 1) and 2) info are available to apps, but even an app just using info 3) would be very useful to me.
T-Mobile One plans classify all network devices into 3 categories: voice(phone), tablet and hotspot. The network retrieves information from the device itself about device type when your device boots and attempts to register itself on T-Mo network to get service. I would like to know how to change (hack) device classification, so T-Mobile network would, for example, see my phone as a tablet device. Anyone with information where this is stored, or a clue how to make T-Mo network misread it - please share.
Anyone?
One way is to edit your build.prop & change product model (device) to the one you want.
