Lately I've been suffering seemingly random FC in multiple apps, Swype keyboard won't popup, lose use of soft buttons, and my device has crashed several times.
Of course this only happens at the most inopportune times.
Device:
Rooted
TWRP
NABD
Nova Launcher
Stock kernel
I'm a long time lurker, fist time poster. Though I've rooted several devices over the years my knowledge level is that of a noob. I have the capability and desire to learn more but need somebody to hold my hand and point me the right direction.
Specifically what would be most helpful at the moment is somebody to walk me through the forensic methodology of tracking down the cause of issues. What to me seems random is surely quite logical, but I don't know what I don't know. And grasping at straws is not my MO.
Or perhaps I'm overthinking this.
Educate me, please.
Could this be related?

My SGS2 is rebooting itself 3 or 4 times a day, I'll do a quick reflash but I noticed it happened even before I rooted with the KDD kernel but didn't think anything of it.
Has anyone else noticed random reboots and is there a log file or app which can help diagnose the issue?

A quick search for 'random reboot' reveals:

C'mon lad...first rule of the book: Use search!
no prob, I only did a lazy search, ie I just looked through recent posts.
If no one else is having an issue then its likely to be an app I have installed, I had thought it might be linked to me uninstalling the samsung hub stuff? But that was after rooting.
I'll flash the new firmware and see if it goes away.
Mods please feel freer to delete our close the thread.

I would definitely do a factory reset if all else fails
That's probably my thread...
I was getting lots of reboots on original firmware and factory reset didn't help....
However I uodated to xdd (full rom, not the root kernel) and it hasn't happened since!
Reflashed this morning with the kdf rom, had no reboots since
Sent from my GT-I9100
which are the roms "kdf" and "xdd"
sorry I'm new in samsung
thanks for any help
random reboots
And i wan't to know what xdd and kdf means.and a link with this rom's as weel if someone pleases.I have a problem with quick auto reebots as well and i haved istalled lots of diferent rooms with and the problem still there.plese help!
Many, including myself, have narrowed it down to Dolphin HD. Others to having apps installed to SD.

in my case none of the problems you said is my problem.i'v restord it to factory settings, flashed 2.3.4 kg1,2.3.5 k2/j3/ki3,cum rom light'ning v6.1,and now i flashed 2.3.3 xwkdf to see if this firmware solvs the problem.
Same here
Hi,
I had the Samsung Galaxy Y pro GT-B5510 random reboot problem. I'm a PhD CompSci very comfortable with flasing roms etc.
I tried everyting I could think of and I mean everyting a PhD CompSci could think of.
The last thing I tried:
With clockworkmod, I tested all my keys. (My Phone has physical keyboard) and all keys where OK!
Then I tried the clear dalvik cache and fix permissions.
It did not work, 2 minutes later a random reboot. aaaahgggg
Confident that not the SD card or firmware is the cause of this problem, I knew my Phone had a defect.
So I took my Phone, and I know this is not a scientific method. But a method that seems to work on electronics from time to time.
SOLUTION:
-With my knuckles, I bashed the backside of my Phone a few times, pretty hard I might add, NEVER be too gentle with electronics!
Now my pone has not rebooted a single time for over 18 Hrs. and still going strong! And it is so fast with Next Launcher! Amazing! That is one amazing launcher!! I cracked it, and I won't tell how, but you should buy this launcher, and I will as soon there is a payment method that works for me on the Android market. The memory management of this launcher is the best in the world!!
If this problem ever returns, I will try the bashing method first, could save me days of work.... LOL
And this is actually a very good method, it works on TV's on Radio's, it works on Android Phone's randomly rebooting, and most other electronics. It is reported to help on airplane, space shuttle, helicopter and warp drive engine control panels lol. ect. ect.
Really;
Just try this method, if you are going desperate! I have so many good experiences with this method, you can't deny it works often!!
Sometimes I think it is just a flipflop hanging, and the shock might shake it lose. So this method is actually more scientific then you think. <-- Physical shocks are known to fix electronics and chips sometimes!
So bash your Phone good and see if your problem is solved! Do not damage the Phone, just a few good hard knocks!
A few pretty hard knuckle bashes on the back of you Phone, won't damage it. It is fast, so it is worth a try! And that goes for all electronics with mysterious problems...
I am sooooo happy my Phone does not reboot anymore. You have no Idea! I don't care I had to bash it a little, IT WORKS like a charm!!
All my education..... and the method that works is simple bashing... How Ironic.
It is still running, if I do not post or modify this, I still have not got the random reboot problem back!
Trust me bashing now confirmd; Might solve random Android reboots! You have a good chance it will work!
whoooooo so happy now!!!
Just for fun, if this method fixed your problem don't forget to reply here, and thank me, I'm curious just how good a method bashing is!
Does anyone else have an issue with the prime rebooting when it freezes? I'm on ics and when it freezes on a website, the prime will then reboot. This is my first android tablet and don't know if this common and not to worry or if i should get a replacement?
Yes, I unfortunately you are not only. If you go to the General section, and there is a really long thread about that exact issue.. You can probably just jump in at the end and report or start following. A brief summary - this started happening after the ICS update, it is random, effects minority of primes, no real know "cause". There are some very helpful people in the thread trying to collect data, see what might relate. There are also some really ticked off people with virtually useless primes that can't go longer than an hour without it rebooting. So - be warned
I'm trying to figure out what my options are. I've got a TF201 that I got in February or March from Amazon.
For a while I've been having problems while running a lot of games. They'll just freeze on the screen, jumping between two frames. The absolute worst are Tegra games. Some of the time, the screen is still responsive to input; that's if I remember where buttons and inputs are. Some times when I keep trying to play it'll just dump me back to the home screen. The only thing that seems to fix the problem, maybe 25% of the time, is to reboot the tablet.
I read some threads on how it's the software, and other ROMs solve their seemingly identical issue. So I unlocked the bootloader to properly load another ROM. I tried several, including different kernels, and it never made the problem go away. I've even tried stock, but rooted previous updates. I followed the instructions in each thread, making sure to do a factory wipe, dalvik cache wipe, etc. I even tried being unrooted to see if it worked right on a later version since I saw that mentioned.
It's still doing pretty much the same thing where it freezes/crashes after all of that.
It can be very cold, not used that day, or hot from a good bit of use. Works both ways, so no correlation to temperature. Most of the time it's off of the charger. Most of the time it's not a fresh start when I try. Normally I let it sit for a while so it can do the background updates for apps and the play store. I even eliminated the option for other apps causing the problem by factory resetting, and only having one of the games that's pretty bad about it running. Doubtful it's the game itself since most of my games are doing it, most not even by the same developers.
I remember reading my warranty is void when I unlocked it. Buy to what extent?
At this point, it seems like it's a hardware issue.
I googled this, and searched the forums the best I could, but not really getting anything answering the above question.
I put this in Q&A instead of development because I'm more concerned about what extent the warranty is voided instead of fixing it.
Of course if anyone is interested in troubleshooting it, I'm all for it.

Sorry, I read over my post several times to make sure I didn't leave anything out; finally figured out what was bugging me that I forgot!
Dead Trigger, Gears and Guts, GTA3, Shine Runner, Sprinkle, Shadowfinger, Asphalt 6, Asphalt 7, Gem Miner 2, and I'm pretty sure that Demolition Inc. did as well. The only correlation between them all is games. Playing videos via MXPlayerPro doesn't do it, nor any other regular app.
There's more games that did it, but I can't recall at the moment.

I'm still curious about the answer somewhat.
I figured I'd give Amazon a try, not expecting any luck. I tried to see if they'd do an exchange for the same thing. Since it wasn't in stock by them, they said they would give me a refund. I got a pit in my stomach, thinking it'd be maybe half the value like I've seen some people say online.
I was shocked when they offered a full refund bought on something at the beginning of February.
Looks like I'll be replacing it with a TF700T instead; I'm definitely happy considering I would have been satisfied with another TF201
Just wondering, is Android a ridiculously stupid OS to troubleshoot?
Does android make it very hard to find exactly what the OS is doing? Are problems almost impossible to find, or do people just not know where to look?
The reason I ask, I've had a problem where my phone will often lag for up to 10 seconds, especially upon waking. I've spent over a year searching for the solution, tried all sorts of diagnostic apps, and I've even asked the question in detail multiple times in various places over the past year with zero response.
A 10 second lag should not be hard to diagnose. If it were windows, you could easily look at the task manager and see what errant program is causing it. On android however I have been completely unsuccessful to identify something which should be so blatantly obvious. What's the deal?
[Q] Please Help Me: Rooted Phone & Weirdness After Factory Reset & Failed ROM Flash
So I rooted my SGS4 a few months after getting it from VZW. I was fine with it simply being rooted for over a year and finally decided there was a few things I no longer wanted to live with. I started going down the path of flashing a ROM and after what I felt was enough research settled on the one that would work with my phone. Or so I thought. Short story is it did not and I found out later it wasn't compatible. Prior to flashing said ROM I created a backup and did a factory reset and wipe like a good little boy. Well, I think this is what caused the issues I'm now experiencing. I'll start with the few I can think or right off-hand as being the man annoyances but I reserve the right to add more later as they come up.
So, w/o further adieu, here's the issues I'm having, numbered for our convenience.
1) Whenever I boot up my phone I get the 'Android is Upgrading' after every single reboot with about 62 items 'upgrading' so it takes a while. I use my phone a lot and carry spare batteries that I change out every time it gets low so this can be several times a day and many times the wait of several minutes is quite inconvenient. As I found in a search, I tried using an app called 'Lucky AppManager' to clear the ODEX files and it reboots and I do it again a few times and it still doesn't seem to do any good.
2) for some reason all of my contacts has a little SIM card next to them that I don't recall seeing and it now won't let me edit any of them to add or remove information. This is annoying.
3) This one had been going on for a bit prior to me attempting to flash a ROM so I had hoped at minimum it would be resolved after the reset. Nope. Power down times are very slow. It used to be whenever I powered it down it took only a dozen or so seconds. Even less right when I got it. Then, one day, it took a minute or two to completely power down and has taken that long every since. Annoying.
There was something else but as I type this I'm drawing a blank. Any help that anyone can help me on any of the above would greatly help me.
Thanks!
p.s. This is a duplicate thread since I was so rudely made aware that I had posted to the wrong subforum. Sometimes this forum earns is rep. Sorry to those who genuinely care because a few bad apples ruin it for everyone.

If you're on nk1 or ng6, have you tried going back to nc5 via odin? It sounds like you need to flash the full wipe nc5 and start over from scratch.
