I've used both in the past and they are both 100% transparent if you choose the right one - i.e. not the 50% one

I am running Jellybean on my SGS3, but I was wondering if there was a way to make the status bar white, similar to froyo. I haven't used Froyo in a long time and I am missing the light colored ui I used to have.

Yes. The box at the far right of the bar can get it off the bar, then go into settings and specify the percentage.
