Hi, I will receive a Lumia 920 'Orange Brand' from France.
I'd like to know if there is any way to de-brand it.
My goal is flash it using an Italian operator-free ROM.
What is the best/newest rom (Firmware Black I suppose) to use?
Are there any potential problem flashing lumia using different country rom?
Regards
Fabio
Mine I've bought it unbranded, if you search the forum, you'll find a way to do that.
BTW, my L920 is Italian country variant, great rom with fast updates.

Thank you guy for your help , but now I've discovered that this Lumia 920 is 'Orange France Sim locked'. It does not work with any aother different sim.
I suppose that flashing rom is not the solutions to 'sim-unlock' this phone.
Looking around I found many sites that can send me the unlock code but I don't know if they are safe and secure.
Do you know any secure site that can help me... obviously I prefer the cheaper one.
Are there any another way to sim-unlock my lumia? using 3rd party software or something else?
Regards
Fabio

No, flashing a ROM Windows Phone does not desimlock the device.
Look a site of desimlock that suits you best (in the first Google results).
Hello. I have a Nokia lumia 920, from Orange France ,and I umbraded, using a website. If you wait, i can post it here.
I have to look through my email.
Here.
http://www.decodare.info/contact.htm
Use this website. It's a Romanian website. I can show you on my phone with printscreen. I think you can talk to that guy in english. He'll understand. And it's pretty cheap though.

The term of your talk is not unbrand but it is desimlock, it is not the same thing
You might be right. But after desimloc thinghy, I think you can change ROM without any problem.
The thing was, that even if you switch the rom, with another one, the simlock would stay.
Sorry for my english. I'm not a native speaker.

You can unbranded your device (your term, "change ROM") without first desimlock...
And indeed, change ROM does not desimlock the device.

Hey XDA,
I've been doing some searching within the forums and they seem to have different answers and I'm not quite sure which is the way best to go around this. Say If I had a HTC 7 Mozart which was locked to Orange, which would be the best way to get this unlocked so I'm able to use my O2 Sim? Would I also have any restrictions on the device when unlocked and is it also possible to remove any orange content that may be installed on the device.

Thanks, so that would make it usable with my O2 sim then. Does anyone have the prices for that? As It seems I can't get the price unless I have the IMEI code.

Network issues after entered unlock code
Hi folks,
I wanted to unlock my Mozart (branded on Orange France) by code purchased in one of these website from US.
The unlocking code was given, I enter it when asking and then no network service. crossed ring on the left high corner.
I made a hard and a soft reset
I install HTC sync connexion application on market place and configure it but still the same troubles: The handy search for a network but keep on No service.
How can I fix this ?
Thanks for your help.

Tools needed
Nokia Care Suite 5.0.0 (2011.51.2) http://www.seidea.com/2011/12/28/nokia-care-suite-5-0-2011-51-2-63048/
NaviFirm Plus - http://www.symbian-toys.com/navifirm.aspx
Once you have installed Nokia care suite, install the drivers package for your version of windows - Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Drivers WinUSB Drivers x86 or x64
Download the Firmware needed from Navifirm should be about 12 files.
1. Launch Nokia Care Suite and open Product Support Tool.
2. Disconnect all phones from the computer and Turn the phone off
3. Select No connection from the connection drop-down menu.
4. From File menu select Open Product.
5. Search for 710 and click Open. RM-803
6. Now connect the phone with it tunred off, it will restart and be detected by the care suite
With the files you downloaded from Navifirm put them in
C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages\Products\ create a folder called Rm-803 if its not there
Now you need to rename the product codes of .dcp / .bin / vpl files to match your device code found on the right of nokia care suite product support tool.
Now the files are in place click programming from the tool bar and select refurbish.
Job Done.
I hold no responsibility if you screw your phone up.
Nicely done. It might be worth including product codes for unbranded models in the guide, would help people pick the right thing from the huge list in Navifirm.
I would be there all day as each country has Black and white devices.
You need to pick the firmware with Country Variant, The country you are in and what colour phone you have. There is no Country Variant for the UK yet with the latest 1600.3013.8107.11502 package in NaviFirm but you can download the older version 1600.3007.7740.11465
UK Black Product code 059N2L6
Germany Black Product code 059M5M0
France Black Product code 059N519
Italy Black Product code 059N0V8
Netherlands Black Product code 059N1Q9
Spain Black Product code 059N1M7
Fair enough, that would take a while, although I suspect no-one is going to care if they flash their phone with black or white variant, what difference can it make anyway?
I don't think it makes any difference, maybe Nokia have put some different themes in to match the colour of the phone.
There's no country variant for Canada. What happens if I flash the phone with a with say a UK firmware?
sutt359, are you sure the latest package is 1600.3013.8107.11505? Mine shows 1600.3013.8107.11502.
It will work fine with UK software. You might find you're missing something Canadian centric, though.
Canadian centric things, eh? I wonder what UK centric things I would find if I flashed with UK software.
Hi, im still kinda green to this whole thing (especially to wp7) and do not know how the thanks meter works, I do want to give thanks to sutt359 for this info. I think it will come in handy

Not a lot, I can't think of anything on my phone. Possibly it's language config?
Anyone tried this yet?
My phone is on o2 UK but is branded Three. It's only the boot logo though, they've not messed about with anything else so I'm not too bothered.

I wouldnt risk flashing a UK version as the radios will be different and may brick the phone. Infact i cant see any US/Canadian roms.
Do you know what bands your network works on? Could you let me know your raido software and hardware versions from about phone.

If you wanted to you could brand it to o2, 1600.3013.8107.11502 using code 059N3C2.
If you want the debrand uk firmware then you will have to use 1600.3007.7740.11465 code 059N2L6. If you use that when the new firmware is out from nokia it will be pushed via zune.

Didn't realize there was a second page in this thread, lol.
Yeah whats up with the lack of North American roms. And you're right; on second thought, I probably shouldn't flash with non-North American roms. Just in case.
EDIT: I saw some people on here importing the 800 from online UK stores and using it in Canada a couple weeks ago. Oh well, I'll wait for bit.

You can flash any ROM you want. You won't brick the phone.
I'm on an imported UK Cyan Lumia 800. Several of us have been waiting for the North American ROM to see if it would free up the 850 3G band. I flashed both Black and Magenta ROMs for RM-819 and it didn't change affect the radios.
It's hard to brick a Nokia when you're just flashing other ROMs of the same model#.
This is probably an incredibly stupid question, so apologies in advance, but does this also sim unlock it?
It will not.
OK, Got this great deal on a locked Lumia 800. Have searched for a month now for someone who can provide an unlock code ( at any reasonable price ) with no luck. Not sure if it is specific to Claro Puerto Rico or not but I can find people offering to unlock this thing for most carriers except for them. Thought I would ask this community for guidance. I haven't been on since the windows mobile days , but used to find XDA users very helpful. I have the locked down bootloader, so I can't try flashing my way to a Sim unlock. If this is a lost cause I need to get this thing back on Ebay to find someone who can use it.
Thanks in advance, gentlemen and ladies

I'm in the same boat -- we probably purchased from the same eBay seller.
I just called Claro to see if they would give me an unlock code, but I struck out. I don't speak Spanish, and the customer service agent I was connected to spoke with a very strong Spanish accent / broken English. I don't think he really understood what I was asking for ... despite 'speaking to his supervisor'. I told them a friend gave me the phone, and that I was trying to use it in the US, but that it asked for an unlock code. I think he tried to say I should just go down to a T-Mobile or AT&T store to try to get them to unlock it. I think if I was a native Spanish speaker I would just call until I found a rep that knew what I was talking about...

Yeah I have the Claro Puerto Rico 710. Whati did was downgrade to the qualcomm bootloader. Then flash the new Rainbow v 4.2. The I use the NSS sim locker to unlock. This forum has help me all the way to getting my 710 unlocked. Hope this help.
Thanks....Looks like Lumia 800 users are not as fortunate as Lumia 710 owners as far as the downgrade options. Oh well I guess it goes back to Ebay where it belongs.
HTC 8x has started getting updates of the new OS. Any news on when Lumia phones will get the update?
No news, but I assume quite fast for unlocked phones. Rest are subject to carriers I assume.

Supposed to be able to bypass the carriers. But considering this is the first update pushed, I'm sure we'll learn more soon.

Bypass carriers, yes. Bypass OEMs, no
This should mean that we get a 920 update for each "build" of the 920 that exists, once Nokia does whatever they do to it. They should have it from Microsoft (one would think) already.

They will have it already, and it's in Nokia's interests to get it out fast and ideally beat HTC to the punch every time, as HTC have been set up as Premier Partners. Nokia want to be THE choice for WP8 buyers, so they need to be there first with the best reputation for updates and excellent hardware.
Nokia obviously has that build available because the Lumia 920T (the chinese variant) is already running that newer build of the OS.
true, must just be waiting for the rollout ok from carriers. I'll check my 8X to see if that's updating on EE, that way we should know if the carriers are slowing things down or not with a quick carrier vs unlocked update speed comparison.
(Groan) I hope it's not the carriers. Pulling teeth with oily fingers is easier than persuading AT&T to release updates in a timely manner. :\

how do you know what rom is a generic one? I have been searching but i haven´t find it yet. can you help me'

Adding to that, does 4G still work on the generic UK ROM, as EE has 4G specific software bits, e.g. the 3G/2G toggle is now the 4G/3G toggle.
So, since I have a Rogers branded but unlocked phone and running it on Telus, what bucket would I be put in? Would I get the generic updates or the Rogers? My phone STILL says that the Mobile Operator Name is ROG-CA, so I'm not too sure what to make of my situation.

You will be under the mercy of Rogers. In order to get out of Roger's grip, you will need to be de-branded. SIM unlock means nothing. In the old days of WM7.0, you can jailbreak your phone and edit a registry to de-brand. Now, you pretty much have to flash a unbranded ROM to do it.

Well it doesn't have the name of a mobile network in the filename. I went from one with EE and UK in the filename to one which just says CV GB.
I currently have a Lumia 710 (Orange UK) which I use with Virgin UK. However, I have just made the plunge to buy a Lumia 620 which comes locked on o2 UK.
Is there a way to unlock the Lumia 620 like there is the 710/800? i.e. flash a bootloader and install a custom ROM?
or should I resort to changing contracts to o2/Tesco/GiffGaff?
Thank you all for any help/advice you can give me! :highfive:

Hi,
No any way to unlock Lumia 610 now...
About firmware - pick one that matches to your phone's Product Code.
BTW, if you want to change the boot-loader to OSBL QUALCOMM - use ATF Flasher
it can change boot-loaders via TP. =)

Thats great. I'll take a look later today. Might flash a generic firmware to get rid of the o2 Branding.
so is it possible to sim unlock this device? i bought one but i havent opened it yet in case i cant unlock it.
I picked up the Lumia 620 on the O2 deal to play around with and requested an unlock code which O2 have sent me so can use other SIM's now and tested it with an Orange SIM.
It didn't cost me anything to get it unlocked as I am an iPhone pay monthly customer already.
The problem now is the branding. I downloaded the Nokia Care Suite and flashed the generic firmware which put it to stock but it mentioned something about the product code not being specified however it all worked fine but unsure how it would effect updates in the future.
The product code is 059R788 which looking at the firmware matches the O2 branded one so will future updates still have to wait for O2 if they are based on product codes?
For now I flashed it back to the O2 firmware using the Nokia Care Suite as there are not any updates available to check.
Cheers!

Are you able to advise how you got O2 to unlock your PAYG Lumia 620 as I asked over chat last night and they wouldn't have any of it...even though I told the I (well my wife) has an O2 iPhone contract...!?!? Their policy is based on the phone being owned for 12-months or more before being unlocked, not the PAYG SIM or Pay Monthly contract...
I threatened them with leaving and referenced the fact Vodafone would do it at any time on PAGY for £20...!!!
They've told me to ring support on 4445 directly to discuss...
Any thoughts?
Judging by the comments above, the 620 cannot yet be unlocked via firmware?
