[Q] Galaxy S II - can only see half of the keyboard - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
My phone is on Beanstalk 4.4.2 custom ROM. Everything else is working fine except the keyboard. The keyboard that comes with the ROM works OK. However, when I installed Swiftkey but it doesn't work properly - only half of the keyboard (left half) is displayed. the keys are unusually larger. I also tried Swype, same problem. I re-installed the ROM, still no go. The weird thing is that Swifkey worked on the previous version Beanstalk. As I have no privileges to post on the the Beanstalk thread, I hope someone in the know can help me.
Thanks

since you are using swiftkey ( i assume you have paid ) why not pm the dev or leave a review on the play store ? keep experimenting in the settings and in the swiftkey settings too .

Will do, hopefully they have the answer

all the best , hope it will get solved

Hey,
I have the same problem and still not found any solution. It also come with the Go Keyboard, so i don't think it come from swiftkey. The three Keyboards show the same problem...
I thought maybe it can works when we uninstall the stock Keyboard, but it's risky, that's why i don't want to try this ^^

as I am new to the scene I cannot write in the dev area, where CM7.1 is beeing discussed on SE Xperia mini/pro Sk17i.
I tested it yesterday and found it awesome!
Really great, but as already mentioned in the dev thread there are still too many issues that make working with it not really nice.
The not working keyboard is the most disturbing thing for me, as using the onscreen keys is way too small to write longer text.
If at least that was fixed I would flash it back on the device. Probably I can check some issues, as I am on gentoo linux for years and have a look on what dmesg tells.. pretty long error list so far
Okay guys, keep on working! I am really looking forward to using this cutting edge firmware! Great!
I'm also waiting for keypad to work then it'll be great

I find the stock firmware pretty great, personally. The only thing that lets it down for me is the app drawer and the inability to delete/hide the pre-installed apps, so I'm using LauncherPro now.
It's a shame I can't just use the LauncherPro app drawer and keep the default UI
as I always use to tweak all my systems, pc, netbook etc. nobody can understand that I really love the design, the arc launcher of my sk17i. But I do. You are right, that the app drawer becomes a little bit blown up at a while. But if your device is rooted you can delete the desired apps from the system and wipe you dalvik cache to make them disappear. This method was just caught up while surfing, not yet tried. I might use root explorer to determine the position of these apps. If you use the recovery menu to backup your system you can always restore the previous state. This recovery method covers every data.
I personally will make myself an overview of the various launchers and drawers available. Probably I will give cm a chance if it becomes stable and I know a good way to sort my apps.
Important for me is a tidy desktop and drawer and the access at least a certain amount of apps at my fingertips, just like arc sorts 16 apps in 4 corners - this is really great in my opinion!

I share your pain. I love the default homescreen, but the appdrawer is really damn annoying. If you set your drawer to 'Most used' then the stock apps eventually get burried away in the last few pages.

Yeah, it's super annoying we can't uninstall stock apps... You can do the custom sort and drag them all to the end, too.
You can hide the apps icons and data by using titanium backup and freezing them, then if you want to use them, just unfreeze

Titanium backup needs root... If I root my phone, then I'm just straight up uninstalling those apps.
Why don't you guys use the folders and corners on the device?
I put all the games and applications in those, and only use the drawer for getting to new apps(which i then drag out the the folders/corners) and just have it set to "recently installed" organisation.
Imo, the modification of android SE did is just about perfectly made for a phone of this size.
I have to agree with the folders, once you use them you rarely need the app drawer. All we need now is root so we can do some serious cleaning... or unlock the bootloader...
i realy want to cyanogenmodders relase ofiicial xperi mini cm7
So do I, but it's probably not going to happen. We'll just have to deal with unofficial ports. Hopefully some people in the Dev section on here know how to fix all our device's little quirks.

it got deleted from hotfile ;(
thx in advance

I am currently uploading it to my server where it should stay as long as needed or something new can be done. It is my nightly from yesterday.
Difference to the prior one is that wifi works now.
They keyboard does as well but with weird placement, though I set it to qwertz German layout. The backlight of the keys don't work either.
Camera isn't still fixed in the source thus still broken.
Installation hint in the text file, I forgot to mention the gapps you'll need to load.
I got up them, too if necessary.
remember:
while I am writing this post the upload is still in progress. Immediate download could lead to an incomplete file.
If you are on windos you can deflate tar.gz with winrar or 7z
cheers

Not working
I reloaded it myself with success.
flash kernel boot.img with fastboot.
Boot into Recovery by keeping pushing the power key.
wipe data & factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik-cache.
Install the cm*.zip and gapps*.zip.
Tried it just a few seconds ago again.
Here it works.
unlocked & rooted sk17i aka mango on cm71
What are your errors?
The download link isnt working ;-)

[Q] Why is new Market (3.x) such a piece of ****

I have a question - why is the new market app so bad?? Or am I the only one? I have HTC HD2 and I had like about 4 different android systems in the last two months and this problem is on every system with new market. Its a piece of crap!
It works...but terribly! I start market, it works but sometimes it freezes itself, sometimes it shuts down for no reason... These problems are only on 3.x versions! Its not something that would bother me so much but I wonder - why google did that? Old market was perfect - maybe not so perfect looking but it was smooth and precise! And now - market 3.x is no match for the old one!
I just want to know WHY?
And is it possible to install back the old one (2.x)?
If you are rooted, you can use this post to get the old market back.

You're unlucky.. Market is fine here, and always been fine.

I agree with this. In addition to the problems the OP listed, there is the "incompatible app" problem if you use custom dpi.
Let google know what you think of market 3.x here

Thank you!
There are actually two solutions to the force closing problem. The first is uninstalling the updates and clearing the data and cache under the phone's settings, however this didnt work for me. The second method is by going to your phone's settings and selecting language and keyboard then changing the language to english(united states). This did it for me and it hasnt forced closed a single time since i did this.

[Q] Swiftket tablet prediction won't appear right away

Hi there!
I have just installed Team-B's CM7. First thing I do, install the market, and then install the Swiftkey tablet X Trial from the market.
The keyboard pops up as normal, but it doesn't make the predictions. I changed the input method to the one that comes with CM7 and it works with predictions just fine. When I select back the swift key to be my input method, the predictions are there and work fine.
This doesn't persist, i.e., when I go to another textbox I have to do this procedure again.
And it doesn't predict at all. I mean, when I write some rubbish and it won't correct me, so it's not that it's simply not showing the predictions bar.
(btw, didn't find anything on the wiftkey documentation or FAQ)
My question is why doesn't it predict at the first time I hit the text box? What do I have to do to solve this?
Any ideas?
Cheers
I've been running the beta version of Swiftkey 3 for a couple months which I loaded from the Swiftkey site. It has run OK, and yesterday Swiftkey released it on the market. Paid version is on sale for one week. I ran paid version all day yesterday and that runs ok also. Only problem I see with this version is predictions with apostrophes ('). It doesn't seem to learn them. It has same problem on my GNex too. I'd recommend a different apk.

[Q] CM10 Native keyboard problems(P4wifi)

Hello,
This is mainly a question I would want to post in Android 4.1.1 - CyanogenMod 10 Preview thread, due to the fact that I’m a newbie on this forum, i can't.
I really hope that someone can help with my problems.
So, general description:
Galaxy tab 10.1 (p4wifi)
ROM - cm-10-20121109-EXPERIMENTAL-p4wifi.zip
ROM runs very smoothly, big thanks to all the developers and especially pershoot who is working hard to make this ROM tick.
So, I have a Bluetooth external keyboard and it works very well. But after installing it the native keyboard stopped working properly. Every time I wanted to use it: it would appear, I would type some characters and after 1 sec or so (very random) it would disappear, the keyboard selector in the bottom right corner would disappear with it. Then the keyboard/keyboard selector reappear after some time, without me doing anything (4-5 sec, also random), and when I would try to type more it would disappear again after a few characters.
In the beginning I though it's the external keyboard that's causing it. So I factory reset/ dalvik cache removed, but the problems remains even if the BT keyboard it’s not yet even connected with the tablet, on a clean install of the ROM.
Also it appears that the spell checker (red lines on the bottom of the words, PC style) doesn't work neither.
Tried Thumb keyboard and it works very well. But I would really want to know what happened, did I mess smth up.... Plus I’m writing a lot in French so the spell checker helped me a lot.
Thx for your help !!!
thx
Hello Arthur,
I am facing exactly the same issue as described by you. And I did not install any bluetooth keyboard.
Running CM10 nightly 20121117 on GT-P7510
hope someone knows how to fix this.
Thanks in advance
I think it was a known issue that the keyboard dock will no work properly with this ROM
Install hackers keyboard. Stable than the default keyboard.

[Q] google voice typing doesnt work.

Hello, the google voice typing works fine on stock rom but after i installed paranoid android it stopped working.
If i tried to use it in the google search at the top of the page it would say that google search has stopped and closes the app but if i tried in the messaging app it would give me the same error (i think but it disappears to fast to see) and the keyboard disappears and wont come back and the only way to get the keyboard to appear again in every app is to go into language and input and disable google voice typing.
I have tried returning to stock rom where it works fine and then installing Paranoid android again but the same thing happens and it doesnt work. I also just installed a different rom called carbon and it also doesnt work on that.
It works fine for my friend who has also used the same roms from the same download link.
I thought it may be something to do with the G apps file i downloaded and thought about downloading a different version but when i checked the two custom roms they both came with different date G apps so i dont think thats the problem.
Anyone have any idea on what else i could try to get it working as i use this feature a lot.
Thanks.
I'm having exactly the same issue but with PAC-ROM on my HTC One.
Can I ask:
Does the Google voice search app work for you?
Is it telling you there's an update to Google Search, but giving you an error when it tries to update?
Thanks
EDIT:
Just fixed it by flashing this gapps:
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
Hope it works for you too
