Hello,
This is mainly a question I would want to post in Android 4.1.1 - CyanogenMod 10 Preview thread, due to the fact that I’m a newbie on this forum, i can't.
I really hope that someone can help with my problems.
So, general description:
Galaxy tab 10.1 (p4wifi)
ROM - cm-10-20121109-EXPERIMENTAL-p4wifi.zip
ROM runs very smoothly, big thanks to all the developers and especially pershoot who is working hard to make this ROM tick.
So, I have a Bluetooth external keyboard and it works very well. But after installing it the native keyboard stopped working properly. Every time I wanted to use it: it would appear, I would type some characters and after 1 sec or so (very random) it would disappear, the keyboard selector in the bottom right corner would disappear with it. Then the keyboard/keyboard selector reappear after some time, without me doing anything (4-5 sec, also random), and when I would try to type more it would disappear again after a few characters.
In the beginning I though it's the external keyboard that's causing it. So I factory reset/ dalvik cache removed, but the problems remains even if the BT keyboard it’s not yet even connected with the tablet, on a clean install of the ROM.
Also it appears that the spell checker (red lines on the bottom of the words, PC style) doesn't work neither.
Tried Thumb keyboard and it works very well. But I would really want to know what happened, did I mess smth up.... Plus I’m writing a lot in French so the spell checker helped me a lot.
Thx for your help !!!
thx
Hello Arthur,
I am facing exactly the same issue as described by you. And I did not install any bluetooth keyboard.

hope someone knows how to fix this.
Thanks in advance
I think it was a known issue that the keyboard dock will no work properly with this ROM
Install hackers keyboard. Stable than the default keyboard.

I have a Sprint Touch Pro 2 with stock WM6.5 ROM.
When I type in Opera Mini (say posting a forum message), after a while pressing a space bar (or a comma / period sign) starts erasing the previous word. This is very repeatable. Also once it starts happening, it affects any other keyboard, including the hardware one.
At first I thought it was related to FingerKeybd, so I yesterday uninstalled it and jumped through some hoops to get my English ROM device to type in two languages using HTC native keyboard. However, it appears the bug is still there, although in a modified version - now pressing space erases letter "I" only.
The problem is only with Opera Mini - I can type anywhere else with no issues. I also have a strong suspicion that it's somehow related to suggested words option being turned on, however I use this feature and don't want to give it up.
I did submit a bug to Opera team but it was immediately dismissed as something specific to my particular unit.
I am curious if anyone else had this problem... surely I can't be the only one !
I have the same problem. Thats horrible.
Same problem here. I have autocomplete turned off but it's still happening. It will also erase "ierd" if you type wierd but won't erase it if you type starting with another letter. The crazy thing is it cleared up for a while until I did a hard reset and erased the "fix".
I don't have this bug anymore. I think it may be related to TF3D (Sense). I stopped using Sense several months ago - got tired of lags and memory issues, tried Titanium and never looked back. This seems to have also fixed my Opera keyboard issue, somehow. I've been through many hard resets (trying different things, screwing up, hr to get back to basics) and so far no issues with keyboard. It may be not related as much to Sense as to CHT running on top of it; don't know - try switching to Titanium and see if that helps.
I used to use mini 4.2 and really liked it, but couldn't use the newer versions because the keyboard is just too buggy. I don't really remember what the keyboard did, I just remember that typing was nearly impossible. I use Resco for my sip.
I had the same thing, search Opera mini forum for "kuifje_opera". It turned out to be the autocorrect feature.
i dont face this problem.. perhaps try reinstalling it, + delete cache files? works fine for me! what about in you HW Keyboard, any problems there?
same
Same problem on rx3115 ROM 1.01.11a.
wm2003SE
any fix?
Try to use Opera mini 5 beta. From my experience with opera mini for about year I can say that the previous beta version i more stable and there are few problems on the rendering of sites and keyboard input in text fields compare to latest 5.1 version. The only thing I do not like in beta version is no so smoothly scrolling vs 5.1.
It is not a Opera problem. Here is what I did and get rid off it:
- Open Start Menu
- Go to: Settings>Personal>Input
- Now you are in Input Method, from the tabs above click Word Completition and uncheck everything there. Now go on the tab Options (on the right) and uncheck Capitalize first letter of the sentence and Scroll upon reaching the last line.
- Click OK (bottom right) and exit the Start Menu.
- Thats it!
This is what I did and solve the same problem, now everything is great when typing texts.
I am using Windows Mobile Pro 6.5.3, so I don't know if it's gonna work on 6.0, 6.1 or 6.5, but considering that this is an all WinMo option, I think it would work on any WinMo OS. Try it, you ain't gonna screw anything
Cheers.
I have a problem with several keyboards on Android. After I install a new keyboard everything works OK. After a few days however the keyboard won't pop up when i select a textbox (for example in Messages). I can still switch keyboards and all other keyboards will still work (If they worked before). The only thing that helps is re-installing the keyboard.
This has happened with SwiftKey, Swype, and SlideIT.
Phone: HTC Desire
ROM: Android 2.3.5 Oxygen 2.2.2 (but has happened with every Oxygen I've had and with CM7)
Soo How do I stop the keyboards from not working?
Nobody has any idea to fix this problem?
Is original android keyboard working?

You could try a few other keyboards and see if you get better luck. I've not experienced the same thing as you on my Desire HD.
I currently use the MIUI Android rom.
Standard keyboard and Thumb Keyboard seem to be the only keyboards that consistently keeps working, everything else just stops after some time.
I looked around on Google but I could not find anything. I think this is a bug in Android, I'm going to try a different ROM and see if that helps.
i have tried most keyboards, I really have as its so important. I settled on SlideIT as this has swipe and a quick toggle between swype on and off, and all the right characters are where you need them. My keyboard had never failed me, so I wonder if you need to clear the data and/ or do a hard reset.

I tried everything, I tried clearing data, clearing cache, re-installing ROM, and 3 different ROMs, but nothing works!!! My only hope is that Android 4.0 fixes this, but as you know the HTC Desire Custom ROM is still in early beta.
Right. I updated to the current Cyanogenmod Nightly build of ICS (4.0.3)
After I did - everytime I try to type something fast the keyboard "freezes" and just shuts down. I don't know if it's a common issue in ICS on SGSII, cause it happened, when I installed stock Samsung ICS 4.0.3 on the phone aswell.
I tried other text apps like Handcent and Go SMS Pro. Same issue. Fast typing creates a freeze of the keyboard.
I am typing in danish, not that I believe that is the problem. I just wanted to share my experience with you here, and learn something new, if anyone has experienced the same annoying issue!
- Thomas
it could happen if you keep the data/settings of your keyboard after the update. clear cache/data of your keyboard. also check for the availability of your language in dictionary
Thanks for the suggestion bala_gamer. I tried it, but it still doesn't work. :-( It shuts down after typing two similar letters I noticed. Really odd error in my opinion.
Maybe I should go back to Gingerbread again.
Have you tried clearing phone cache and dalvik cache ?
Might have something to do with the system itself, bad flash ?
Yes I tried clearing everything on the phone. Everything runs smooth and batterytime has never been better. Only thing wrong is that annoying little bug, when using the android keyboard. Swype is not implemented either. I don't know if it's an old version of something related to the danish language in android.
It's a strange little bug, but annoying as hell, especially when I use my phone so much.
Hi,
My keyboard doesnt work properly after installing this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2071694
when you push somewhere to type after typing the first letter, the keyboard disappears and you have to push the text field area again to get the keyboard back, this happens in every word, so as soon as you are done typing your first word and push space and start typing the first letter again this happens!
i am using the wifi tab 10.1 from samsung. running cwm 5.5
I changed back to android 4.1 and its working fine in that one.
anything i can do to fix this?
Any other keyboard from the market. I went with SwiftKey to fix it. Changing to a different gapps may fix it as well.

Hi everyone
My phone is on Beanstalk 4.4.2 custom ROM. Everything else is working fine except the keyboard. The keyboard that comes with the ROM works OK. However, when I installed Swiftkey but it doesn't work properly - only half of the keyboard (left half) is displayed. the keys are unusually larger. I also tried Swype, same problem. I re-installed the ROM, still no go. The weird thing is that Swifkey worked on the previous version Beanstalk. As I have no privileges to post on the the Beanstalk thread, I hope someone in the know can help me.
Thanks
since you are using swiftkey ( i assume you have paid ) why not pm the dev or leave a review on the play store ? keep experimenting in the settings and in the swiftkey settings too .

Hey,
I have the same problem and still not found any solution. It also come with the Go Keyboard, so i don't think it come from swiftkey. The three Keyboards show the same problem...
I thought maybe it can works when we uninstall the stock Keyboard, but it's risky, that's why i don't want to try this ^^
