I have a problem with several keyboards on Android. After I install a new keyboard everything works OK. After a few days however the keyboard won't pop up when i select a textbox (for example in Messages). I can still switch keyboards and all other keyboards will still work (If they worked before). The only thing that helps is re-installing the keyboard.
This has happened with SwiftKey, Swype, and SlideIT.
Phone: HTC Desire
ROM: Android 2.3.5 Oxygen 2.2.2 (but has happened with every Oxygen I've had and with CM7)
Soo How do I stop the keyboards from not working?
Nobody has any idea to fix this problem?
Is original android keyboard working?

You could try a few other keyboards and see if you get better luck. I've not experienced the same thing as you on my Desire HD.
I currently use the MIUI Android rom.
Standard keyboard and Thumb Keyboard seem to be the only keyboards that consistently keeps working, everything else just stops after some time.
I looked around on Google but I could not find anything. I think this is a bug in Android, I'm going to try a different ROM and see if that helps.
i have tried most keyboards, I really have as its so important. I settled on SlideIT as this has swipe and a quick toggle between swype on and off, and all the right characters are where you need them. My keyboard had never failed me, so I wonder if you need to clear the data and/ or do a hard reset.

I tried everything, I tried clearing data, clearing cache, re-installing ROM, and 3 different ROMs, but nothing works!!! My only hope is that Android 4.0 fixes this, but as you know the HTC Desire Custom ROM is still in early beta.

I've had similar issues, but seemed to only occur when using a new input method or on reboot. I use swype and once I switched to the Evo swype apk, the problem stopped. Probably doesn't help your case, but I know you're not alone.
I know this may not really fix your problem but really just provide an alternative solution, you could use Swype. Swype is much faster (in my opinion), and you still have the option to type normally with it. You would have to download the beta from Swype's Website, it doesn't take too long to register for the beta.
I have had this problem too in the past. I'm just curious, do you use handcent? The only time I've really seen this happen for me is in handcent's popup windows, but I have no idea why it happens, and honestly, it doesn't happen often enough for me to want to try to figure it out. But I feel your pain, when it does happen, it's quite annoying :/
Happens to me all the time... I use Smart Keyboard Pro.
See my thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132927
Wish I could figure this out. I type super fast and it's starting to get veryyy annoying.
Wow so does mine LOL I thought. I was crazy.

Ya i had major problems with this on the stock keyboard. I also had just general problems with lag sometimes in the stock messenger app, as well as receiving duplicates of text messages. I formatted the cache partition in cwr and used the gingerbread keyboard in the market and have since have had zero problems (so far lol).
Same Here!
I'm having similar issues. When I "wake" my TB up and try to go in to type a text message, email or any other thing that uses the keyboard, the keyboard shows up and allows me to type, but nothing shows up on the screen.
I've tried using the GB keyboard from the Market (which I REALLY like), but no matter what I try, I seem to have a problem. I thought it might be WidgetLocker interacting badly, but uninstalling that doesn't work. I thought it might be because I was using Go SMS Pro, but uninstalling that didn't work either. I went back to using the stock keyboard (which I really DON'T like), but to no avail. The only thing that DOES seem to work is to reboot the phone.
This is getting a little ridiculous! I don't want to have to reboot this phone every time the keyboard decides it doesn't want to work! Anyone have any advice?
Just FYI, I'm not rooted. I haven't gotten that far yet. The only thing I've done that isn't stock is to run Go Launcher as opposed to Sense. And this issue was happening when I was running Sense as well.
Right. I updated to the current Cyanogenmod Nightly build of ICS (4.0.3)
After I did - everytime I try to type something fast the keyboard "freezes" and just shuts down. I don't know if it's a common issue in ICS on SGSII, cause it happened, when I installed stock Samsung ICS 4.0.3 on the phone aswell.
I tried other text apps like Handcent and Go SMS Pro. Same issue. Fast typing creates a freeze of the keyboard.
I am typing in danish, not that I believe that is the problem. I just wanted to share my experience with you here, and learn something new, if anyone has experienced the same annoying issue!

it could happen if you keep the data/settings of your keyboard after the update. clear cache/data of your keyboard. also check for the availability of your language in dictionary
Thanks for the suggestion bala_gamer. I tried it, but it still doesn't work. :-( It shuts down after typing two similar letters I noticed. Really odd error in my opinion.
Maybe I should go back to Gingerbread again.
Have you tried clearing phone cache and dalvik cache ?
Might have something to do with the system itself, bad flash ?
Yes I tried clearing everything on the phone. Everything runs smooth and batterytime has never been better. Only thing wrong is that annoying little bug, when using the android keyboard. Swype is not implemented either. I don't know if it's an old version of something related to the danish language in android.
It's a strange little bug, but annoying as hell, especially when I use my phone so much.
Hello,
This is mainly a question I would want to post in Android 4.1.1 - CyanogenMod 10 Preview thread, due to the fact that I’m a newbie on this forum, i can't.
I really hope that someone can help with my problems.
So, general description:
Galaxy tab 10.1 (p4wifi)
ROM - cm-10-20121109-EXPERIMENTAL-p4wifi.zip
ROM runs very smoothly, big thanks to all the developers and especially pershoot who is working hard to make this ROM tick.
So, I have a Bluetooth external keyboard and it works very well. But after installing it the native keyboard stopped working properly. Every time I wanted to use it: it would appear, I would type some characters and after 1 sec or so (very random) it would disappear, the keyboard selector in the bottom right corner would disappear with it. Then the keyboard/keyboard selector reappear after some time, without me doing anything (4-5 sec, also random), and when I would try to type more it would disappear again after a few characters.
In the beginning I though it's the external keyboard that's causing it. So I factory reset/ dalvik cache removed, but the problems remains even if the BT keyboard it’s not yet even connected with the tablet, on a clean install of the ROM.
Also it appears that the spell checker (red lines on the bottom of the words, PC style) doesn't work neither.
Tried Thumb keyboard and it works very well. But I would really want to know what happened, did I mess smth up.... Plus I’m writing a lot in French so the spell checker helped me a lot.
Thx for your help !!!
thx

Hello.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 with ICS 4.0.3.
I have searched the problem in this forum but i haven't found nothing similar.
With Samsung's keyboard i haven't any problem, but doesn't work any of the keyboards i've installed, and i've tried with Swiftkey, Kii Keyboard and Go Keyboard.
With Swype (bring it stock), a few months, began using up cpu and i have to disable. Also Swiftkey worked a few months, and now it change to Samsung's keyboard automatically. Kii Keyboard also uses up cpu and Go Keyboard freeze, even it freeze Go Launcher.
For what it's worth, i've uninstalled and reinstalled and throughout the day it's work perfectly but when i've turned off and turned on, the nex day, it's failed again.
I hope you can help. Maybe it'd arrange with a wipe, but i don't go to such extremes. If you need any more information of the smartphone, say me.
Sorry for my English.
Thanks and a salute.
up up!
Ok so I'm having this problem no matter what keyboard I use that whenever I edit a word in a message or note, etc, Android duplicate the word every time I hit the spacebar and it's driving me insane because it ruins my message and I can't stop it. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm using google keyboard at the moment but have the same issues on the stock keyboard, as well as swiftkey, which means its the OS. I'm rooted on Venom ROM, but had the same issues before I rooted. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Anyone?
Bump

I had the same issue using Perfect Keyboard from the Play Store, both on Stock Rom and on Viper Rom. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work, wipe data didn't work, even showed the issue right after a clean install (full wipe). Don't know the cause but I begrudgingly switched back to using HTC stock keyboard and no problems for over a month. I miss using the volume keys for moving the cursor, but I hated this issue even more...
Perhaps let the dev know and see if they can isolate the issue, otherwise use a different keyboard? Sorry can't help, but you're not the only one that's see the issue!
Good luck!

I had the issue even on the stock rom before root IIRC. I use google keyboard, but believe the issue was the same even using swiftkey. There has to be some bug in the OS that is causing this, but I've literally tried everything to no avail.
