I have a Nabi 2 that was rooted almost a year ago to gain access to the Google Play store.
My needs have changed since then and I wanted to restore it to factory settings.
The original root was performed by a friend that I am no longer in contact with.
If I boot normally the Nabi is stuck here:

I have managed to get it to boot to TRWP by pressing the power and + keys. I see this:

There are no images to "restore" under the restore tab. This is what I see:

I am hoping someone can provide me with a kernel file or some tips on how to restore the machine to it's 'out-of-the-box' configuration.
I want to donate this device to a young child and need to get it back into a kid friendly mode.
Any help really appreciated.
There is a lot of info here that can help get you going .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Fuhu_nabi_2
after you get it going make a back up and STORE the back up on the pc would be my suggestion .
Parts you might have questions about feel free to post
include as much info as you can as this can help make it easier to understand the problem
IE,

I think if I understand correctly, I should be able to restore the factory image using the restore function of TWRP.
In my case there is no backup there for me to utilize.
I put some files on a 16Gb sd card to see if the restore function would see them but it still shows up blank.
I checked the box that says "mount SD card" but I do not see the files.
I am sure it it something I am doing wrong.
I have posted pictures of what I see.....just in case I am not describing it correctly.
Thanks!
see if you have a system folder
in twrp -under mount, put a check in system
then back out of mount
now click on Advanced/file manager/
Scroll down to Sytem - tap it to enter it .
IF you can see that its still in tact then try factory reset
Factory Reset is under the WIPE menu .

I found the folder SYSTEM and clicked on it.
I do not see any files on the right side and I only another folder called LOST+FOUND on the left side.
If I enter LOST+FOUND I also see no files on the right.
Can I copy the required files into the SYSTEM folder from a SD Card?

in Twrp restore you can pick just system to restore
just make sure that "SYSTEM' is the only thing with a checkmark

When you say use TWRP RESTORE you are talking about the button on the home screen labeled RESTORE right?
If I go into RESTORE as described above I have the option of using EXTERNAL SD or INTERNAL STORAGE.
No matter which I choose there is nothing showing up in the PACKAGE TO RESTORE area.
The last picture in my original post shows exactly what I see when I go into RESTORE.
It is like the a backup was never done or somehow got erased.
Any ideas?
Thanks Eric

what I was saying is that if you download something from the wiki like 1937 put that TWRP back up on your External SD card inside of the TWRP folder
then use the Restore function in TWTP.
it will show up along with data boot system etc.
you can just Restore system .
use your pc. place the back up on ext sd card .when finished place the external sdcard back in to nabi.
then boot in to twrp /use Restore and you should see it.(just checkmark system ) swipe to do the function
exit and reboot nabi

I am sorry I sound like such a tool. A lot of this stuff is very unfamiliar territory for me.
Here is where I at:
I downloaded 1937stock.zip
I placed a copy on the SD card and copied that to the SYSTEM folder.
Went into RESTORE and did not see anything pop up.
Then I unzipped the file and copied those individual files to the SYSTEM folder and the same result.
Then I looked at your post again and it said put it in the TWRP folder.
Where is the TWRP folder? Should it be in the root folder?
The only place I saw a TWRP folder is within another folder called SDCARD. That folder can be seen from the root folder. However the contents of that folder change depending on what mount options are selected.
I am a little confused here about mounting and the folders named EXTERNAL_SDCARD and SDCARD.
Can you enlighten me a little on the difference between these two?
Should the 1937stock.zip file remain zipped or do I have to break the files out individually when restoring them?
And finally where should the TWRP folder you mentioned be located?
Thanks!
Think of Twrp restore function as a windows restore point
think of internal sd as widows primary hard drive(main OS is here)
think of External sd as a windows hard drive 2
you do not want to copy anything to system. you want to let TWRP do it for you .
1st thing you want to do is Extract the zip to the pc desktop in its own folder
then take the folder from the desktop and place it on the External sd card
then place the EXT.sd card in to the nabi2
Boot nabi in to twrp
click on Restore
here is a example of how it should look on the External sd
/twrp/backup/FOLDER TO RESTORE HERE
if you look in restore you will see the option for twrp to look at internal or xternal sd card for the back up .

I did exactly as you spelled out above. Unzipped 1937stock and put the files in a folder on the SD card that looked like this /twrp/backup
I verified the contents of the SD card while in my PC. It had 9 files in it. 2 boot* files, 2 data* files, 3 recovery* files and 2 system* files.
I put the SD card in the Nabi, made sure SD card was mounted and again verified contents of EXTERNAL_SDCARD with File Manager.
The files were all visible with the File Manager.
When I go to RESTORE it still shows up blank. If I click either internal or external storage, it makes no difference.
It is almost though RESTORE is looking for the files in a completely different path.
The only options in the RESTORE function are the sort buttons on the bottom of the screen and the two radio buttons on the top for internal or external storage.
Can I move the folder from the SD card to internal storage?
Would it make a difference?
What is the default path TWRP uses if internal storage is selected?
Or is the box on RESTORE screen supposed to populate with a tree that I can navigate to a specific folder?
For me it is just plain blank no matter what I press.
Similar to the picture in my first post.
Your instructions seem pretty straight forward. I double checked my steps but no dice.
Any ideas?
Thanks

lets try this
check an make sure that the External SD card is formatted in fat32
you can use the pc to do this
now place the External SDcard back in to the nabi
boot in to Twrp and choose the BACKUP function make sure that it is going make the backup to the external s card.
(the goal is to see if twrp is working)
IF this works then you should see a new TWRP folder on the external SD card
now go back in to RESTORE to see if you can see the back up you just made to your External sd card.
ps: yes you can move the TWRP folder to the internal sdcard if you wanted
Twrp will work from both Sdcards

Ok you are 'da' man....good plan of attack.
I formatted the card, fat 32, just to be sure.
Put card in Nabi booted and mounted SD Card
Ran backup and it did create files on the card.
It also created a timestamped folder
I assume you want me to replace all those files with the file from the stock zip package correct?
I did replace all the files in that backup folder with the files from the stock package in preparation.
I do not want to proceed until you let me know if I can pull that trigger.
I am only committing the SYSTEM files?
Do I leave DATA & BOOT unchecked?
Does this process remove TWRP and make it completely stock? That was my goal.
If I do get back to stock will I then be able to participate with the regular OTA updates that I read will bring the Google Play store on the device natively?
Thanks for your continued and rather quick responses! :highfive:

1st I would want you to keep a copy of that back up you just made on your pc <just incase we need something from it in the future>
Also keep it on the SDCARD
on your pc find that TWRP folder you just made
and add the folder you first tried to it
Example TWRP/BACKUP/BACK UP UP I MADE
TWRP/BACKUP/The one I downloaded
put card back in nabi boot to twrp
go in Restore and look for "the one I diownloaded" folder
uncheck all except system
swipe for the function to work
then it should ask you to REboot
Fingers crossed GOOD luck ..lol
Edit We will want it to update by its self
As of now you have a ICS(ice cream sandwich version of android) Currently we are up to jellybean 4.1.1
the tricky part for me was going from ICS to JB because I had missing Files that it wanted to update
also the Boot and Recovery is Diffent between the 2.

Dude your killing me....I did what you said above and rebooted and BOOM!
IT WORKS AGAIN!
It went through the OUT OF THE BOX setup. Yes!!!......BUT there is one big problem.
It will not see my wifi card.
If I try to turn on wifi via the nabi control panel it just stays off. The on screen switch appears to work but if I navigate to another screen and then back the switch is marked OFF again. No AP's show up in the access list.
Do I have to install a patch?
I noticed that TWRP is still installed.
And Thank you a million times over for getting me to this point!
before We mess with the wifi - some things to try
Are you broadcasting SSID? Wifi protected set up ?
Un power your router wait 1 minute then Repower it.
If that's not it then
Reboot in to TWRP
go in to wipe
only wipe*
cache and dalvik cache -* Nothing Else *.
Reboot nabi

No success. I have a number of AP's beside my own in this area that I can usually see.
I even turned on the hotspot on my phone and placed it very close and it could not pick that up either.
The on screen wifi switch behavior is still the same.
Did the two cache wipe things as well and no luck.
Should I have chosen a different stock***.zip? I see the Wiki has about 10 different flavors under the STOCK section.

Sorry man, no dice
It is doing the same thing. When you go to switch the radio on, a dialogue box come up that says "Please wait while loading", with a round swirly thing spinning. It looks like it is trying to initialize something but when the dialogue box closes I don't see AP's. Funny thing is the bluetooth radio switch stays on while the wifi switch will not.
ok Reboot to TWRP
go to mount
choose data - then back out
go in to Advanced/filemanager
then click on data then misc
then go to wifi
on the right you will see wpa_supplicant.config
tap it
on next screen choose Rename File
on next screen type .bak
so it looks like this
wpa_supplicant.config.bak
hit enter on the screen keyboard
next screen
Swipe to confirm
Reboot the nabi .
check to see if wifi works

I recently started trying out Custom ROM's extensively and at one point lost all my clockworkmod recovery files from my SD card. Terrifying as it was to start all over again, I didnt give up hope and looked around in the xda forums and here are the collaborated instructions
I assume that to your good fortune, the files are only LOST i.e not deleted by you accidentally. When this happens, android puts them in a folder called LOST.DIR on your SD card. Ensure you keep these files intact!!!
I also assume that you are using clockworkmod recovery.
Step 0:
I recommend to do all this on your PC unless stated so otherwise... I used a micro-SD to SD adapter to read the card in my laptop..
Step 1:
Your recovery files are in the LOST.DIR directory somewhere. Unfortunately the filenames are now (seemingly) random numbers. Your first Job is to find out which file is which. The way I took is to use a free file recovery software like RECUVA . Use this tool to run a "deep scan" on your SD Card. Once Complete, It will show you a list of "recoverable" and "unrecoverable" files. Dont pay any attn to the status. Look in the "PATH" column of the lost file. The files of interest are in the "G:\Clockworkmod\backup\" path(My SD card is drive G)
For each rom backup that you had created there should be a directory with 5 files(look in the "PATH" Column)
System.img
Data.img
Cache.img
.android_secure.img
nandroid.md5
Step 2:
Recuva tells you that each of these files are unrecoverable as they have been overwritten by a file in the LOST.DIR directory in the comments Column. Look at the corresponding file name against each of the above 5 files for the ROM Backup that you want to recover. Copy these 5 files to a seperate directory on your PC. (For our guide we will call this Directory "RecoveredBackup". You are free to call it whatever you want. Just remember..no spaces in the directory name. There's a good reason for this)
Step 3:
Rename the corresponding random-numbered-file to the correct name (example system.img)
Step 4:
The chances that the Nandroid.md5 is recovered correctly are very LOW. There is a way around this first Create a Directory called "clockworkmod" (without quotes) in your SD card. Inside this directory create another directory "backup".
copy the directory from the above step "RecoveredBackup" into this backup folder.
Step 4:
Regenerating the md5. Insert your SD card back to your Phone and open any "shell" (like terminal emulator)
Type su in the terminal and press enter. Allow superuser access if prompted.
Regenerate your md5 by following THESE steps.
(Thanks to ihtfp69 for this) (remember..in our case instead of "2010-06-29.20.22.53" in the post, we use "RecoveredBackup"
Step 5:
Ready to go!!! Now reboot back into recovery and restore your ROM as usual!
Step 6:
Breathe a sigh of Relief if it worked
Repeat if you have more than one backup to recover.
Disclaimer: This SHOULD work. This doesnt mean it WILL. give it a go... but don blame me if it doesnt work / your girlfriend breaks up with you / Judgement day arrives.....
You can also recover deleted files from Harddisk and Memory Card with the help of another efficient data recovery software. i will suggest you to use "Kernel for FAT and NTFS" file recovery software for the same purpose. It recovers data after accidental delete (shift+delete) / format from hard drive, memory card, flash drive etc instantly. It has a user friendly interface through which you can preview the lost data in scan mode in RED color and then gave you the choice to save all at once or some selective files to your location.
Thanks for the good advice and detailed description! Should save me a lot of pain.

works like a charm
i accidently deleted rom-slot 1 on safestrap for my razr and it worked like a charm, i used the data recovery to match the sizes up to a name and put them back in the proper directory, now im back on my main rom! thanks man!
If you wan to recover SD card, recover memory card lost data, you must to use a photo recovery, this recovery tool is helpful for you,get it from:
Code:
datas-recovery
You can not only recovery photo, video, but also recovery iphone and android lost data.
The simple delete command on most cameras just marks the space on a memory card as being available for use rather than overwriting the actual space on the card. As long as you don't record anything new onto the card, previously deleted photos should be relatively easy to recover using a file recovery utility.
You should even be able to recover photos from a reformatted memory card as long as you used a standard format command rather than a low-level format. (A low-level format not only deletes all the data on the card, but it also recreates the directories and folder structure of the card, rendering previously deleted files unrecoverable.)

Not on this device, but principle is the same: if I copied the lost.dir folder to my computer, and then ran recuva, would the files still be recoverable? Or is the whole point that it has to be on the original destination?
If they havent been mentioned... here are devices I have had tested and don't see on the first post:
1) the LG Optimus "S" works, I think specs are almost, if not exactly, identical to the Optimus V - now as far as lag goes, it is far from a good performance device...
2) the Sony Xperia "Arc" works...and pretty good I understand...
3) Samsung Galaxy Ace works well...
4) HTC Evo Shift 4G... works good.
5) LG "My Touch" works...
6) Kyocera Milano lags it up on anything remotely intensive, but works!

Do not worry, here's a good sd card recovery solution you may follow to recover data from sd card: how to recover lost files from sd card
It's easy to follow and works well for me.
My problem is a litttle bir complicated...
I organized all my pictures in my N9005(phone memory) then i replaced those to SD card. At this time some of those organized folders turned into empty folders and videos, picturec etc. moved to LOST.DIR folder and named numerically. After then i tried to recover via RECUVA, STELLAR PHOENIX and ACTIVE FILE RECOVERY PRO. But i couldn't recover all lost files except a few . And video players and picture viewers say that those few recovered files are corrupted. After i read the threads in forums, recovers are successful but mine is not, i think about the replacing the files from phone memory to sd card caused the problem. Is there anybody to help me for solving recovery problem and making any comment about my thought?(replacing from phone to SD card)
Problem......
My problem is attached......Please help me...
I can't see any file on "LOST.DIR" folder, and Recuva doesn't show anything too.
I would like recommend a tool is SD Card Data Recovery, It is Kernel for Windows Data Recovery that can repair and recover deleted data from different storage device like Hard Disk, USB Drive, PEN Drive, Camera, SD card, Memory card etc. Download and install H-Data Recovery Master(hdatarecovery.com).
You can easily spot SD card usage in almost all the cool gadgets, such as the android king – Samsung galaxy s3, all the camcorder goes either full memory card storage or hybrid – with built-in hard drive, the Nikon d90, canon EOS 5d mark ii and all the DSLRs alike. But you must be very pained when you lose data from those SD card in following situations:
• Accidentally deleted files from SD card
• Formatted SD card
• SD card got corrupted or inaccessible
• Virus inflection
• Power failure
• Others
Thanks to the Android Data Recovery, which can recover deleted photos from samsung galaxy and videos from SD cards on Android devices, as well as retrieve deleted contacts from Android phone and messages on SIM cards.
In order to put a stop to permanent loss of files from LOST.DIR in Android, you have to quickly recover missing files before your Android Smartphone memory space get overwritten by some new data. Therefore, go ahead with pertinent LOST.DIR Android recovery tool like UFUSoft Lost DIR File Recovery.
SysInfoTools Windows Data Recovery
I would like to recommend Sysinfotools windows data recovery tool, it proves helpful for me. Suggest you to Download its trial version and practically analyse all the feature before you purchase. It will recover all the media files, documents, attachments safely in an original form.
Thanks

Hello friends, how are you?
I'm from Portugal, and i have one nice strek 5 working great.
But i have another two, that don't boot, it stuck on delll Logo.
i think another my friends try to root or update, and fail.
it don't make any fast boot or streak mod.
so i disassemble to read its sd card.
because i'm using windows, so i install DiskInternalls Linux Reader to have acess to sd card files.
When mounted, its show two volumes, "Linux Ext Volume 1" and "Linux Ext Volume 2"
the firs one have 244 Mbs, and the other one have 1.65Gb
the small one have two folders, lost+found, recovery and a lot of jpeg files in root folder.
the second one, that have 1.65Gb, have a lot od folders and semms a lot of a zipped rom image.
Its possible just decompress and copy to the volume?
Thanks
If you format the card and put it back in the streak, it should set it up automatically. However, you will lose anything on it this way.
Ok. i will try..
but, it don't need to write some data in "boot area" ?
I'm asking that, becouse i download 3 roms, all ziped, but easy to see files, i also download streak mod, and has only one img file, it can't be unzipped..
my firts idea, was copy streak boot files, to card, but i can't acess it..
My assumption, and it is only an assumption, is there is some sort of actual rom memory on the phone that holds the lowest levels of the operating system. Maybe fastboot and the recovery menu, but not recovery itself. The rom actually resides on the internal sd card. When I put in my freshly formatted sd card, I simply rebooted the phone and I don't remember if it was automatic, or I had to confirm it, but the streak partitioned/formatted/whatever the internal sd card itself. I then flashed a recovery and a rom.
Hello.
like you said, i have insert a new sd card, but formated in FAT, i think thats the problem.
I try to load Linux Live CD, and format in ext2/3.
or try to copy rom directly file to sd card.
You think might work?
***EDIT***
I have format the card, and i have inserted into sreak and turn it on..
How much time is preparing the new card ?
and how i know that is ready to reboot?
thanks
I have created an image of my inner SD Card right after a factory reset.
Download Here
I created this using Clonezilla, you should be able to use Clonezilla to restore it. It is an image of the entire sd card. You need to unzip the downloaded file to use it.
Note: I am running DSC_Rom, which is Gingerbread based. I don't think it makes a difference.

You burn the .iso file to a cd and boot it.
I'm running ICS Passion and just got this phone.
I've tried Titanium Backup, but it just creates the backup within the "USB storage," which isn't useful as it'll get wiped out if I decide to flash another rom to my phone...right?
I also tried to copy/ paste files to the SD card when connecting it to my computer, but nothing seems to work.
You can set up the folder anywhere you want or let it set it up for you. Then move it to where you want and then go into menu>preferences>backupfolder location. it'll scan and then you fingd your folder, hit it and then hit the Use Current Folder button and viola!!!
Also you will not erase your internal SD (or external for that matter) when you flash a new ROM. That is kind of the point of Titanium.
Ahhh, okay, I get it now.
Is there any way to look at what files I have on my external SD card from my phone?
Use a file explorer from the market. Will show you internal, external and emmc if necessary.
I have placed Meanrom.zip in the root of the SDCard and I can go to ES Explorer and located it witout a problem but when I go into TWRP to install Zip file it does not display. Any suggestions?
Make sure the zip extension isn't in caps. i.e. ZIP

Just checked and it is lower case.
Make sure its not reading from internal storage. If it is then u won't be able to see ur zip file that's on ur sd card
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Go to ''mount'' in twrp and check '' mount external sd'' or something like that

you have to goto mount in twrp and change it to internal storage
Sorry to open up such an old threat, but i have simmular issues as mentiont above.
Ive gone to hell and back, getting my phone ( a MT6582 Lenovo A3600d ) rooted and TWRP on it, working and all. Yea im a prood noob.. !
But now im stuck. Ive put some compattible rom on my empty and formatted sdcard. Ive done all the flashing that is required to finally install the rom, but TWRP wont see the zip file.
Its in the root of my SD in the correct zip format etc. When i go to the TWRP file manager i also cant locate it. Eventho it tells me its reading of the sd card and not the internal memory. It will only display the maps and show some txt files. Dont know if thats normal. These are the only actuall items/lines i can see pop up.
Furthermore in "Mount" it wont let me check the box "Ext-SDcard", all the others i can check. Is this where the problem lies ? Ive removed the card and formatted it and put the rom zip file back on it a few times through my desktopcardreader.
Since ive allready flashed the phone its completly empty, only the TWRP recovery is accesable.
Am i missing something ? Any help would be greatly apprishiated

Try to use CWM, you can make it through MTK Droid Tools (I kinda forget the name)
1.Download it
2.Obtain superuser access.(make sure usb debugging and usb drivers installed.
3.Goto the second tab
4.select backup and kill the process after seeing boot.img being backed up.
5.again to the second tab.
6 .select 'To choose from the boot.img file'
7.Go to the backup folder.
8.select phone model.
9.choose boot.img
10.click yes on every pop up box.
11.done.
CWM works flawlessly on my Lenovo A3600D.
Even if it's not touch version
I've just tried to do a backup on my NT running AOSP 7.0. I have TWRP 3.0.2-0 in emmc.
The first attempt I tried to go to the "external SD" card since there is lots of room there. Everything seemed to go just fine although I thought the backup size was a bit small, just over 2 gb. On reboot I could not find the backup anywhere. I tried ES File Explorer and the native File Explorer. No sign of anything like "/external_sd/TWRP/Backups/" etc., and no sign in ES File Explorer that another 2 gb chunk was occupied by something.
So I went back into TWRP and looked at the File Manager there. Not only could I not find evidence of the backup but every folder listed showed as empty! Well, I think TWRP is often very squirrely, so I was not too worried about that. I went to try another backup and saw that by the mysterious accounting of TWRP, I had about 2 gb less storage space on the "micro SD card" than before I tried the first backup. Hmm..... When I tried a second backup, it failed, stating there was no space (despite there being over 13 gb). Finally, I decided to try a backup to internal. This went just fine, but the folder for storage of the backup was supposed to be something like "/emmc_unused/TWRP/Backup/" etc., and--you guessed it, was not visible in any file manager of any sort.
After a reboot I went back into TWRP and to my horror now the internal storage shows about 2 gb less!!!!!! ARGH! Where are these files that are taking up space but nowhere to be found?!
Edit: AHA! Is there a manual somewhere for TWRP? This time I tried "Mount" for internal. Very strange. There is a screen to select what to "mount", but not a button or something to say "now do it!". Anyway, once I did that, I was able to see both of the mysterious locations mentioned above and delete both backups, freeing up the 2 gb in each "location". But I still have no idea how to make a backup and put it somewhere I can actually get at it. I generally off-load backups and store them on my PC.

Have you tried using a PC sdcard reader to read the sdcard?
I have had problems finding/accessing from my PC some of the files on my HD+ that I had created while I was using terminal emulator (which I suspect having to do with file ownership and access permission setting but which I have not found a solution for), but I have always been able to read and copy CWM/TWRP backup files on sdcard by using a card reader.

The OS warns that the SD card will become encrypted and unreadable by external means if you choose to extend the memory rather than using the card in the traditional format. So, no, you can't just pop it out and read it on a PC.
The really confounding part is that even a backup saved to internal cannot be copied off. The directory seems to be invisible to everything but TWRP.
Really feeling buyers remorse on that decision but I'm afraid of the damage if I revert the card. I can backup content I've stored there but there's no way to know how much the OS has placed there. All that would be lost and some apps might be messed up. Ugh.
